Clutching my purse, I march back toward the black Mercedes Maybach waiting at the entrance of the cemetery. It’s only about three in the afternoon, but the clouds have turned gray suddenly without warning, the moisture in the air growing heavier each second, causing the world to turn dark and dank all around me. Pressing my eyes closed, I flinch, rooted on the spot when a sharp streak of lightning cuts across the sky, followed by a rumble of thunder. Biting my bottom lip, I swallow my tears. Damn it, Natalie. You’re twenty-four years old and still scared of a little desert monsoon?! As the sound fades, I take a deep breath to gather my strength and begin to sprint as large droplets of water start to fall. Panicking, I dash, not noticing the puddle of mud at my feet, only to slip and fall on my butt with a thud. Jesus! What a klutz! With gritted teeth, I attempt to scramble to my feet, only to be startled when low thunder booms again. Heavy rain begins pouring down in sheets and it only takes a moment for me to get drenched pitifully. Feeling my strength escaping my body, my knees grow weak before I can straighten up. My vision is blurred by the driving rain as my eyes catch sight of a familiar figure getting out of the car. Come on, Nat. Just a few more steps. Get up! I give up my attempt as the skies grumble again while my hands subconsciously find their way to cover my ears. The cold air seeps into my skin and I shiver harshly. I can’t be sure if it’s because of my fear, the chilling wind through my damp clothes, or the icy cold glare coming from the approaching figure of a man carrying a black umbrella. Within a few breaths, he successfully rescues me from my pathetic pit of mud and despair and seamlessly deposits me on the passenger seat. I purse my lips as he throws his coat over me, blasting the heater, and adjusting the vents so that they’re all aimed directly at me. “I-I…” I stutter when he shoots me a look. His jaw is clenched, and his steel grey eyes look deadly as he squints ever so faintly. “I-I didn’t mean it. I’m sorry.” “Mmh,” he hums simply. Averting my gaze, I bow my head and stare at the droplets of water through the window as he maneuvers the vehicle from behind the steering wheel. I close my eyes and utter a silent prayer when lightning flashes again. Fortunately, the noise is muffled in the cabin of the car, and the ride back home is quick. I get out of the vehicle the moment it pulls to a stop in the driveway. Without sparing the man another glance, I sprint up the stairs and head straight to my bedroom. My clothes are already mostly dry, but I feel sticky and humiliated. I take a warm shower, blow-dry my hair, and fall onto my bed, staring blankly at the ceiling. Today is the third anniversary of my grandfather’s death. For the same amount of time, I’ve been living under a roof with the cold and despotic Derik Lewis. Throughout these years, I still can’t seem to get used to his demeanor. Sometimes he’s okay, but most times he’s overbearing and difficult to read. I still cannot understand why my grandpa trusted the man so much, to leave me in his hands. These thoughts linger in my mind as I doze off.

What the hell was that

I read this in one sitting at 2am after finding it on some random ebook website, and let me tell you it was the most random, 50 shades of grey-esque short story I've ever seen and I'm not even sure what the storyline was supposed to be...

Derik lowkey reminds me of the love interest from a Spanish love deception (so irrelevant I can't even remember his name) and so does this weird plot but in 80 pages, not 400

First spicy scene was so random after 80% of derik's lines leading up to it were "mmmh", i think this author needs a lobotomy? Anyway dont read this unless u fancy the worlds strangest slightly erotic short story when you've ran out of books on your tbr.....

I thought that the story 'Billionaire Boss Protector' by Tessa Sloane was excellent. It was about a woman that had been living with a man her grandfather had appointed as her guardian and mentor after her grandfather had passed away. Derik had been mentored by Natalie's grandfather after Derik's parents had died in a plane crash and then his own grandfather had passed on. When Natalie's grandfather passed on, Derik and Natalie then resided in her grandfather's house and Derik ran the company while Natalie finished her studies and then began her training to take over the company. Natalie had always had a crush on Derik, but he had always treated her coldly without any warmth at all leaving her to believe that he only thought of her as a responsibility. It was only after she told him that she would be moving out, did he begin to thaw and slowly showed signs that he would miss her. He came home drunk one night and swept her up into his arms and, after receiving her permission, preceded to make love to her. Derik was not good at showing his emotions and he felt that as her guardian he shouldn't be making love to Natalie. Natalie became frustrated as Derik closed his feelings towards her and only let them show occasionally. But he soon realized that he loved Natalie, and he was relieved when he found evidence that the two grandfathers had schemed to have Derik and Natalie fall in love and marry. When Natalie's life is in danger, Derik realized that he couldn't live without her.

Accepting The Inevitable -
When Natalie graduated from college her guardian informed her that she would have start working immediately, so she could take over the family business. Derik felt an inexplicable pull towards Natalie from the moment she returned home, but he tried everything within his power to stay away from her. Unfortunately, his will power didn’t hold for too long, which led them to have one night of no holds barred pleasure.

Regrettably, the morning after brought about doubts in Derik’s mind, which caused him to pull away, whilst Natalie just put all her efforts into completing the project she was working on. However, just as Natalie settled into her new job, she was in a near fatal accident, which put her life in danger. This incident pushed Derik to finally acknowledge his feeling for her and accept the truth that they were meant to be together.

This was a really interesting story, with engaging characters, witty banter and enough drama in the story to keep you entertained. This is the first book I have read from this author and I can say I am really impressed. This is a definite must read book.

This contemporary book is about Natalia and Derik. Natalia has recently completed college and Derik, her guardian who brings her back home to start learning to take over the reins of her grandfather's business. Derik has been running his own company and overseeing her grandfather's company during her studies. The storyline is good enough but the character development was poor and I felt the characters were all over the place, especially Derik's character. The dialogue felt choppy and Natalia really acted childishly a lot of the time. A mediocre read.

i can't believe i just finished reading this book within like 10-12 hours today, because the plot and characters just wanna make me keep reading!! Specially since the main characters' story just keep going more and more interesting🤭🤭 AND THE SPICY SCENES WERE A CHEF'S KISS🫶🫶 Detailed and anticipating!! Although, the part where i was left hanging was when their grandfather's had planned their marriage beforehand, but where is the paper and the writings? IT LEFT ME FEELING CURIOUS😭😭 But, overrall, this was a good read, made me feel enviousHAHAHHA

He was her guardian although not too much older than her, he seldom speaks properly, most of the time he only says "hmmm"...., he treats her as an object, and she has all the reactions a child would have. I could not relate to the characters or to the story.

Meant to be

Natalie abd Derik were raised by the same grandfather who adopted them after thier parents death. Wonderful characters with a bit of intrigue and true love for each other. I highly recommend.
