Loving Colin’s story and the fact that he’s the oddball Beastmaster
Colin really enjoys a challenging fight and throws himself into every battle with all his efforts, most likely as it’s that or die and become a meal. As he gains levels he unlocks more slots for pets, in-line the other Beastmaster that he discovers are crafters and not using their pets in battle. Colin and his team grows into a specialized force that he can swap between for different strategic needs. He begins to see his pets personalities and works to always respect them and their desires, but isn’t opposed to light manipulation to get them doing what he wants. In the end he builds partnerships instead of capturing and enslaving his beast companions leading to some great gains as his pets grow stronger. It’s a different world now but Colin has found his place, being helpful to other humans and crushing Mandrills wherever they mess with humans. Although the town he finds himself at next has a serious bug problem that they don’t understand at all…
I don't know what to say about this book. The idea isn't horrible. But 90% of the book is the protagonist by himself. Haven't maybe short conversations with a couple of dinosaurs. I made it about halfway through this sequel and just kind of got bored. There's almost no equipment upgrades in one and a half bucks. He's upgraded one of his two weapons and none of his armor. The abilities are not impressive or really fun in any way. He was level five when book one started and that took him like years to get to but in the like 2 weeks since he's level 10. Just not a fun story
Technical note: KIndle/Amazon is having some sort of problem which doesn't allow me to post star reviews from certain books, so some stuff will be out of actual "read" order.
4.5 stars. I continue to think that the MC needs to put a few points into INT and WIS, but he recognizes that his first "pet" is smarter than him and actually consults him. As for the book itself, I have no complaints and it moves pretty well. The final battle against the mystery bug summoner seemed a bit drawn out, but that's my biggest complaint. I will certainly read a book 3 at this rate.
In book 1 we were told just how awful humans were that the rest of the universe hoped for their demise. Book 2 is proving this to be true as the animal companions and meet ups are proving to be more humane and amazing than the actual humans.
The author does need to go back and fix the thought speech so that every time Colin is talking or getting responses the words are italicized as it is inconsistent throughout the book.
I think what’s fascinating about this is the setting. Having dinosaurs, giant primeval style creatures fits well within the context of the story and makes a wonderful scene for the LitRPG / gamelit mechanics to shine.
This book solidly built off of everything book one promised, and met those expectations. Solidly enjoyable read.
This was a great second book, I do think a little more editing (some sentences just needed some " marks to help) in polishing would have been nice but still a good story. Will be getting the next one.
Better than the last book. Solid through and through. Only criticism that I didn't like, but others may is the weird flirtatious nature he starts with a different woman every book. It doesn't detract from the book but feels weird.

The first book was good at getting the relationship between pet and tamer good time to bond but book just slung 3 new pets with no real experience sharing to get to know them for the reader it felt like just filling a team of pets for a Pokémon rouster.
Fun story, lots of action and nice progression. Well crafted story and amazing world building. I’m not sure if he has communicate with animals he is not a vegetarian.
Building off the previous book in the series, this continues to be a fun read. It doesn’t get too bogged down in stats while introducing some interesting plot elements.
