The Three Forms of Unity: Subordinate Doctrinal Standards

Rate this book
This little book contains the flower of the Reformation - the historic Reformed creeds (The Heidelberg Catechism, the Belgic Confession of Faith, and the Canons of Dort, otherwise known as the "Three Forms of Unity"). Also included are the ecumenical creeds of the church (The Apostle's Creed, the Nicene Creed, and the Athanasian Creed). Each creed includes a historical introduction. The Three Forms of Unity are the doctrinal standards of the Reformed Church in the United States.

This is a great resource. It includes the Apostle's Creed, Nicene Creed, and Athanasian Creed at the beginning. I appreciated all the support for infant baptism in these statements of faith. You can tell there are portions of the statements that are directly in response to Catholic practices, and it is interesting to see some of the historical context come through. The Canons of Dort was the most directed response (to Arminianism) and focused on the idea of predestination. I am not quite convinced of these arguments for predestination and tend to take more of a Lutheran view.

Excellent to soak up the three forms of unity. Will read this regularly and utilize it as catachesis along with the Westminster standards.
