What an Author!!
I love this author. I have never been a reader of sci-fi but I am absolutely hooked on this guy. He has fabulous characters, he has humor and excitement. READ HIM!! I PROMISE you will thoroughly enjoy his writing. He has several different series and you will enjoy them all.

A supernatural fight tournament on a hidden island, and the little guy who just won't stay down.
Six months in, Jonny is stronger and heals faster, but he still has no idea what kind of hybrid he is. Then an invitation shows up on his doorstep: the Grimm family's All Valley Tournament, a no-holds-barred bracket of trolls, minotaurs, fallen angels and other things that should not be punching a former sign twirler. Everyone tells him not to go, so of course he does.
This one's a tournament book on the surface, but it's really about resilience and friendship. Jonny keeps getting knocked down and keeps getting back up, and his sheer stubbornness wins over the side characters one by one. Frankie gets real room to shine, and her backstory hits harder than I expected. The island itself is a great set piece: a pyramid hotel, holographic fight screens and a crowd that bets on everything. And Teri's trunk scene is one of my favorite moments in the whole series.
The performance: Steven Barnett has fun with the fight announcers and the tournament's huge cast. Each new contender sounds distinct, and the pacing in the fight scenes keeps the tension up without rushing.
Content notes: lots of violence, moderate language, a little romance and no spice.
Bottom line: come for the tournament, stay for the underdog who refuses to quit.

Jonathan's humor and creativity make this series one of the most enjoyable ones I have read in a very long time. The characters are realistic and relatable, yet completely unique. They are incredibly well developed and fully loveable (or hate-able, depending lol). I got pulled in and invested very quickly.
I enjoyed Jonathan's writing so much, that I branched out to read genres I don't typically read, so I could consume more of his books. I am so happy that I did!

Yanez is much like his character Jonny. This series started off a bit rough, but he's hung in there, bringing his characters to life, making you root for them.
I love the over-arcing plot of this series and the way he's combined myths, legends, and fairytales.
There were a few times in this book that I laughed, so maybe I'm starting to get his humor, or maybe this book had my kind of humor in it.

Jonny agrees to battle supernaturals in their annual tournament to boost the rep of Hunters for Hire, but the stakes are higher than he realized, and there's a deeper, deadlier game afoot.

Captivating

Great series!
This book 3 took some new turns that have added to the series! It was a great story and we get more and more insight into or characters. They are all changing and bringing new abilities into the fight!

More surprises and cliffhangers

A perfect blend of action and comedy!
I just can't get enough of this storyline! Johnny reaches a new level in this one as he begins to become the legend he is destined to be.

This is my favorite book of the series so far. Each book continues to introduce new hunters and characters some of the stuff that goes on it laugh out loud funny. Looking forward to book 4!

WOWSA! This book was brutally fun! Jonny is such a strong yet utterly humble character who has the best sense of humor. I love getting to learn more and more about Johnny's world with him and meet new characters, creatures, places. Teri just knocks my socks off with her enthusiasm. And Baba? The brutal honesty and the popcorn. You cannot help but chuckle. I found myself laughing and cheering and yelling as I read. It was a good thing I was home alone of my husband may have been worried.

Another Keeper. Jonny and Frankie are invited by the Grimm Family to compete in a fascinating tournament of supernatural contestants. Baba Yoga, Dr. Muffin, and various other characters tag along. Quite exciting, much blood and gore, and The Chosen are up to no good. Death and destruction are rampant, but there I plenty of humor to weigh the good and the bad. Already started Godmothered - number three in the series.
