A Demon's Book of Shadows

Rate this book
Lucy has abstained from practicing magic for too long, according to her two single witch sisters. The equally single children’s librarian is fed up with the magic her Crow family has long been known for. All she wants is to publish a picture book and help kids cope with dyslexia. Like her fictional character Crystal the witch, Lucy possesses a special ability to see spirits. The last thing she needs is for a hot, tattooed demon haunting her library.

Amon has lived in the cozy Midwestern town of Midhaven for too long. He spends his time hanging out at Shadow Daddy’s bar with his demon brothers, or designing artwork at his tattoo parlor. His shadows all know that his romance life is lacking color. One fateful day, he is summoned by a wendigo who demands that he track down a grimoire his father lost over three hundred years ago.

Lucy and Amon are forced to put their beliefs about magic aside and work together to track down the grimoire. The one thing they can’t ignore is the magical chemistry between each other. Their feelings for one another ignites, leaving the witch and the demon wondering—can one really read magic? Or is magic like a good book, one that keeps you captivated forever?

A Demon’s Book of Shadows by Amanda Casey is a fun new take on demons and witches in one of the best paranormal rom-coms I have ever read. I never have had anything feel so equally cozy and spooky, dark yet soft at the same time and as a self proclaimed ‘Halloween is all the time girl’ the energy was unmatched. Turning down the AC, burning a fall candle, and reading this book was all I needed to trick my brain into the fall serotonin rush my body craves. The characters in the book are all so well written. Whether primary, secondary, good, evil, neutral, or even animal (one of my favs) all the characters have so much personality. Lucy the FMC is so easy to connect with as a fellow bookish girl. She uses her strengths and weaknesses throughout the story especially with the help of her family, the MMC, and at her library. The relationship between the main characters is something you have to experience for yourself, but let me tell you it does not disappoint! The MMC is a book boyfriend that is top tier. Amanda wrote the villain so well. The whole storyline was amazing, but I had literal goosebumps on my skin from being creeped out by the villain. I am so grateful to have been able to read A Demon’s Book of Shadow’s and I highly recommend reading it.

The author did an amazing job with the story, I loved the whole storyline & how the characters connected.

I really enjoyed reading this one , the fall witchy vibes were there 🖤

I love my paranormal rom-coms & this was right up my alley!!

Now question.. where can I find me a shadow daddy like Amon because those shadows😮‍💨😮‍💨🫣🫣🤣🤣

Anyways

Both main characters were my faves!

Amons looking for a grimoire that belongs to his family and something leads him to Lucy’s library, he can’t quite get close to her because her familiar won’t let him lol

Lucy is a librarian & is also writing her own book about a witch name crystal the witch to help kids with dyslexia 🥹🫶🏻
She’s also a witch but is suppressing her magic ..

Lucy’s familiar is freaking hilarious I loved that little guy!!

I loved Lucy’s sisters along with Amons brother I would love to see a second book about them, well I know there’s a second book about her younger sister which I can’t wait to read!!
Hoping her older sister pops up because I’m interested in her story and if she ever finds that shadow voice that gave her some comfort while going through her divorce!

10/10 recommend🖤

I absolutely loved this book! I loved the way the story built up to the main plot and I loved how the characters connected! I also loved the witchy vibes it gave as well. Perfect book to snuggle up in a warm blanket, light a fall scented candle and get lost in the world of this book. The MMC was written to perfection. The author did a great job with the villain as well which made the book even more interesting. Brings together all the fall and Halloween vibes!

Definitely a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 read!

I was given this opportunity to be an EARC reader for this fantastic book. The characters are easy to connect with and makes me wish I was there with them.

Lucy is easy to connect with for me because I wanted to become a librarian and I love her attitude and sassiness. Amon makes me want a demon of my own and I want to give him a hug. Lucy‘s sister Veronica I wish I had her as a best friend she made me cackle with glee at her shenanigans.

This book has all the things of a fantasy paranormal romance that I wish to find more of. There was definitely a roller coaster of suspense and emotion that makes me can’t wait for book 2.

This is definitely a fun read. Has fall vibes and steamy romance. The chemistry between Lucy and Amon is there and super fun to read. Has my favorite way to read a romance with dual pov. It is 4 stars because it's a little to instalove for me but it's not like out of the blue it's just timeline quick. The background information for their world is well done and understand the demon/witch dynamic. Love a good book about books. The book is well done with a small cast of characters which makes it easier to fall in love and like everyone. Absolutely would recommend for a fall romcom read.

Thank Amanda Casey for the opportunity to read your book I absolutely loved reading an ARC of it and look forward to more of your work!

‘THE DEMON WORSHIPS HIS WITCH WITH HIS SHADOWS’

A magical heartwarming romance.
Good & Evil. Love & Fear. Demons & Witches. Books & Magic. Family & Friendship.

This fast paced read contains outstanding characters, immersive story development & a slow burn romance that keeps you hooked! This story is told from dual POV between Lucy (our Witch) & Amon (our Demon) which allows you to truly explore the relationship developing. Both finding parts of themselves again whilst simultaneously learning about each other. This story displayed both light & shade among the action & romance. The other characters added comedy & depth, further adding to the immersive experience.
I devoured this book in 2 days (would have been one day if I had the free time).

This novel has introduced me to the world of paranormal romance & now I want more! If you are new to this genre but love romance & are open to the paranormal elements this book is for you. The level of spice was perfect.
I would most definitely recommend - 100%
I can’t wait for the next book in this series!

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

“I need the light of you that compliments my shadows.”

Oh my gosh - I ask the question, how could I not have given this a 5 star review!!

This was incredible, the slow burn between our 2 main characters was tiptop, our quirky side characters - necessary (pssst they need their own books - IYKYK 😉)

This was just what I needed to get me out a terrible reading slump, light, fluffy - kinda, dark paranormal aspects heck yes.

Our FMC is sunshine personified, a librarian with a quirky bookworm of a familiar
Our MMC is the grumpy demon who just can't stay away

All the characters are lovable, even Zed who still can't decide on a band name 🤣 although Nematodes works well

Everything about this book was so well done, the writing was beautiful and flowed so well, apprehension and tension where necessary and the best amount of fluff when needed.

Adored, adored, adored!!! Go read it

It started off really good and promising. I was so hyped and getting excited when right away Lucy and Amon got their first interaction. Further into the story there were some build up in their romance and I could tell that enemies-to-lovers was in progress.

The first 20% were a lot of unnecessary scenes to prolong the story, it got to the point where it felt like a drag. Also there was only a handful of interactions between the Lucy and Amon. I gave that a benefit of doubt because less interactions from both of them means a slow-burn romance building up. Additionally, finding the grimoire somewhat raise some questions on the situations in the book (I want to elaborate but I also don’t want to spoil).

I also didn’t like how the concept was a contradictory. Also, I get that the MMC is a shadow daddy but I don’t see the point of naming a local bar “Shadow Daddy” as well. I feel like it was overused in the beginning.

Honestly, the story was there just needed some further work. I enjoyed reading it for the most part, I just find something lacking in the majority of it.

This book is such a treat! There are a host of mythical creatures, mystery, family, adventure, action, angst, and a whole new level of shadow daddy. Trust me, pick a cozy spot and dive in, this is a book you want to make time for.

The FMC is Lucy Crow. She’s a witch who is currently suppressing her magic on purpose, and she works at a library. She’s also a writer, a sister, and a daughter. You get a wonderfully immersive look into her family life, and the distinct abilities among her female family members. I loved her development and her relatable personality. Her sunshine sweetness and her inner goddess and her powerful magic. I love her family too!

The MMC is Amon Ravenblood. He’s a demon and a tattoo artist. He’s on the hunt for a grimoire belonging to his family and is convinced that Lucy has it. Hilariously, he can’t get very close to her because her familiar is an excellent gatekeeper! You get to know his brothers and his backstory, and his dad. There’s mystery in his suppressed memories, and a tinge of melancholy brooding lines his character. He’s a shadow daddy, AND his shadows have PERSONALITIES and that’s my favorite part!! I think this is a stellar feature!

The cast of secondary characters is amazing. Lucy had sisters named Victoria and Grace. Amon has brothers named Krim and Zed. All these characters are very developed and the world building is fantastic. The villains are two vastly different creatures with different reasons and angles for their behavior. It’s a well woven tale and there’s so much to this story but it would be a shame to spoil it. This book reads like a tv series and it would be phenomenal to see it happen. This is just book one! I’m so intrigued with the town and the people and the characters and can’t wait to see where the story goes next!

I won’t give a book summary because there are tons of reviews that do that, so let’s skip that and get to the meat. I loved the concept of this story. It is plotted well. The magic systems, the story itself is good, really good.

Here’s what I didn’t like:

-FMC seemed to become a completely different character about half way through
-MMC I could never get a handle on what he looked like other than he was wrapped in shadows and had black hair?
-I loathed the sex scenes in this book. Because the use of the word “loins” which makes my vag do the windows shut down noise, there wasn’t that tension between the characters. The scenes felt stilted, like they didn’t belong. I’d even go so far as to say like they were written by another person. This book felt complete to me without the sex scenes and is a big part of my lower review on it. The rest of Casey’s prose has these beautiful, lyrical moments. The sex…drier than the Sahara. It felt frenetic and not in a good way.

I really disliked the father and the older sister. Alcoholism, alcohol intoxication also need to be listed as TW’s.

Additionally on pg 264 the word “drugged” is used. That should perhaps be dragged.

Summary- really cool story, something very different that it felt like someone plopped some sex into to make it sell.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. I appreciate Amanda Casey for the advance copy and hope to read more of her books. 🫶🏻

Honestly I was hesitant applying for this arc since every modern witch romance I've read I did not enjoy, and yet now I have learned if the characters are strong I can have fun with them (which is code for I loved the characters, especially Lucy).

Was I following the magic system 100% of the time? Definitely not, but I was having a good time with it. It's got the perfect small town feel in autumn, and it was a great book to read for 10+ hours on planes and in airports. Also the meta comedy was just enough to be funny and not cringy or annoying (I did laugh at the bar owned by a shadow demon being named Shadow Daddy every time). I caught myself laughing on the plane multiple times, probably looking like a crazy lady.

I defiantly recommend you pick this up when it comes out if you want a fast autumnal small town witch and demon romance.

Thank you to the author for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I was looking forward to this book and really excited to read it.

I was disppointed because there were so many grammatical errors... mainly object and subject pronouns. It interrupted the flow of reading and stuck out enough the I'd have to stop and correct it in my mind before I moved on. This made it difficult to stay in the story.

It makes me sad because these are easy errors to check and correct. You can remove the other person in the sentence, leaving the I or me, and choosing which fits and/or plugging it into Grammarly for a double check.

However, I wondered if this would be a series and if we would get a book for each sister and it seems that we will. I plan to read the next book.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. I appreciate Amanda Casey for the advance e-copy.

A lovely fall rom-com, perfect for Halloween season. I definitely mood-read when it comes to seasons and this was a great spooky season starter. The female MC is a librarian and a witch, getting out of a bad relationship and leaning on her sisters. I appreciated that the lore of the witches and demons was easy to follow. A little bit of spice and magical spicy tattoos. Amanda Casey is great at writing books that are quick and fun, I will definitely pick up the rest of the series when they come out.

Full disclosure I was sent a advanced copy of this book in exchange for a honest review.

I really enjoyed this light hearted fun rom-com.

Right from the start I knew this was going to be a nice easy read for me and it really was, Caseys writing style is so easy I didn't realised how quickly I was progressing through the book.

The story was interesting and I couldn't guess what was coming which was really good.

If you are looking for a fun, cleaver read with some spice thrown in this is the book for you!

A Demon’s Book of Shadows was a fun story with interesting characters (you’re going to love Victoria). I loved how the author described a demon’s shadows and made them come to life. Demons in this story are represented very differently than they usually are and I’m here for it! The story was light with some darker moments and it definitely contained some interesting demon shadow spice that will have you blushing!

This was a super fun and spicy read. If you are looking for a romance with witches and demons set at Halloween, then look this on up.
We follow Lucy, witch who doesn’t practice magic, and her familiar who is a bookworm, perfect right? She comes across a grimoire that a demon is hunting for his own personal reasons. As they both have reasons for the book, they end up finding magic in in their way.

I was given an eARC for my honest opinion.

In this book, we follow our magic-suppressing witchy librarian Lucy, and shadow-wielding tattoo-giving Amon, as they fight the unstoppable chemistry and The Bone Threader. Add in grouchy sidekick familiar Grubs, siblings on both sides, and of course, a cursed ex-love interest and you have a great book to add to your fall spooky TBR!

OMG! I loved the fluffy banter between Grubs and our main MC Amon. The chemistry is sparking between Lucy and Amon, and don't forget his pesky naughty shadows. I know it's a rom-com but it had the potential to be spicier and that is the only reason it's not 5 stars for me. Yes! Go read this I recommend it!

Amon is so much more than he shows us at first and I love that.

This had me giggling and gasping the whole way through. I will say this book does jump around a lot, and during the moment it could be a bit confusing, but as things were wrapping up, the timeline started to make more sense as the pieces started to fall into place.
Overall I absolutely loved it and it gave every spooky season vibe that I was craving. I can honestly and comfortably give it a 5 star review.
There was never a lack of some type of action, I wasn’t just waiting for something interesting to happen in the book. And if you’re down to swoon over a shadow daddy and fall in love with a sassy talking bookworm then I 100% recommend getting this book 🤗

A Demon’s Book of Shadows was so freaking good!!! I loved Lucy, I could really relate to her so much, and Amon, oh my god!! He’s so dark and moody, but also such a good partner too.
