One of the better Library alphabet books I've seen; I strongly prefer this to "B is for Bookworm" simply because that one is too complex for the audience. This is a great introduction to the library for kindergartners.

A lovely alphabet book about the Library... Great for Storytime or learning the parts of the library.
Also Great for the many Library holidays throughout the year...

This book uses the alphabet to teach children about a library. It tells about different genres of books, as well as how to find a certain book. It could definitely give children the basic knowledge about the different aspects of a library.
I think this book is simple, yet helpful. It would be very useful to show kids different aspects of a library, since younger kids wouldn't have had that experience yet. The illustrations are also very cute!
You could use this in a classroom to teach the alphabet and also teach students about the different parts that make up a library.

Alphabet based book with one sentence on each page for something the library has for that letter. Appropriate vocabulary, simple sentneces. Graet way to start a word wall or talk about library services and have a scavenger hunt for all grades.

I adore and collect alphabet books, AND I am a librarian, so when I say this one is a stand out great alphabet, I do not take it lightly! Every children's collection should have a copy.
The pages have very simple rhyme, with a not very strict meter, so as far as poetry, it's not a perfect example. But the lines are easy to understand for even very young readers, and they convey just the right information in a very small number of words. And the letter X is for Xerox, which actually starts with X! I am always a little disappointed when X ends up being for eXcitement or the like.
And the illustrations are adorable! Each page builds upon the illustrations of the last, adding characters to fill the library with life and wit. Everything about this book works in its favor!

This is an okay title for me. Each page has two lines of text and the two page spreads have a rhyme-actually it is a four line verse with second and fourth lines rhyming. Therefore some of the text is rather contrived and the choice for the letter p in my opinion should have been picture book, but instead it is parts of a book. I wanted to like this more, but just couldn't.

Some of the absolute worst verse known to man. The author apparently has no sense whatsoever of what poetic rhythm is ("S is for shelf markers, that help you mark your spot. T is for the thesaurus, which tells you 'warm' is another word for 'hot.'"). It's just painful. Trite and contrived, this book has nothing going for it.

This is an excellent book to read to the class before going to the library for the first time. It is also good for teaching the alphabet. A good project to do after reading this book is having the students make their own alphabet book.

"L" Is For Library is a nicely illustrated alphabet picture book that could easily be used for storytime or orientation purposes. Most of the most commonly referred to library terms are highlighted here.

Cute alphabet book about things in the library. I like how the tabby cat is found on each page. Enjoyed the illustrations as well!

Loved this book...both timely and factual and fun! It uses the alphabet and rhymes to tell what a library is! Would not mind owning this book for my personal library.

This is my favorite sort of alphabet book - everything is about libraries and books. The pictures of this book were so much fun - you do need to take the time to read what's on the books or computer screens or whatever. But you also learn so much about libraries with it. I'd use this book with young children about to head out for library time just to set them up for the fun they're going to have. :)

This book is a good resource for children to read because, it helps children learn the alphabet, while also learning about what goes on in a library. For a kindergarten teacher, who wants to teach her students about the alphabet and also teach the students about the library, this is the kind of book that I would recommend, especially since it is my first time reading it.

I like the information and what was chosen for each letter of the alphabet. It is better suited to a personal read than a read aloud to absorb what it says. I'm not crazy about cats so having the story told with them on every page, and for some odd reason aliens as well, wasn't my favorite.

Basic alphabet book that follows a cat as he leads children through the library. Each letter starting a word that's related to the library (a is for author, b is for book). Some words are a bit of a stretch, such as C is for Caldecott, an art award, but most are simple and act as a good introduction for younger children to the library. Not very exciting, but cute.

The illustrations employ a soft but varied palette and are replete with details that add interest and humor to the text. A cute picture book for little ones about libraries and books. I wasn't as crazy about it as I hoped, but I felt some of the letters were a little forced or just weren't what I'd've picked (like, why wasn't P for Picture Book, especially since it is a picture book?). No story, just an alphabetical tour through a library, a few lines of text per letter. I liked looking for the cat on each page, but if you're working with a larger audience, that might be harder to see. Might work better with a smaller crowd or one-on-one in that respect.
Still, it's a good alphabet book and a good book for the start of school or for National Library Week - those times of year when storytimes highlight books and libraries.

This alphabet book is a great tool for a rising kindergartner or someone who is ready to start finding things independently in the librarian. With adorable illustrations and simple but precise writing, young people can start to identify genre, parts of the library, elements of books and websites, and other conventions of literacy. The book has great moments of humor, and playful references to canonical children's books and historical events. Though primarily the text is instructional, it can be enjoyed by readers of all ages

Libraries - yay! Books about libraries - yay! This book - meh...
This book had the potential to be awesome! But alas, its rhymes were weak and the attempts at humor were poorly done. All in all it's just a mildly entertaining alphabet book about libraries. Even though there are better alphabet books out there, this would still be a good book to read to a child about to visit the library for the first time.

My five-year-old son picked this book out from the library this week. He loves abracadarian books; I love that word.
This book had a lot of promise, which was mostly unfulfilled. The text wasn't especially inspired, or funny, and the rhymes were forced most of the time.
The illustrations were charming in a Joan Walsh Anglund/Mary Engelbreit sort of way, and they were the highlights of this book.

An ABC book about libraries, this would be a good read-aloud to introduce kindergarteners to the library/media center. Older ones could brainstorm their own ABC lists before listening to the story. During the story, they can see how many of the words they thought of, are included in the book. Are there any important words that weren't included in the book? Children and students can let you know.
