When I tell you that this book rocked my freaking world, I am literally not exaggerating. 🤯🤯
Emma is running from her past. Abuse, toxic family members, and bad memories she can’t seem to leave behind threaten to ruin any progress she makes. Told in past & present tense is a story of trying and failing, and redemption and growth. It’s beautiful and raw and you should just go in blind. PLEASE.
Katelynn HUNNNNNNY. You didn’t warn me!!!! This was freaking amazing. I picked this up casually late on Friday night and binged all day Saturday. I couldn’t put it down. These are the best kinds of books. Ones that pull you in and destroy you, makes your heart break into a million tiny pieces at the hurt Emma goes through. I feel like even a day later I can’t write a proper review so just give me the benefit of the doubt and say I’m still mind-blown🤣 Emma is written so perfectly and real if I had to ever imagine what someone would be like after going through these kinds of things. Her responses to triggers are so valid and watching her grow and overcome😭 I absolutely loved switching back and forth between past and present. I was in my room literally crying- rooting for Emma. Marco was just such a wonderful addition to the story. Sweet and patient but also realistic. I loved her two best friends, they were perfect supportive characters. The book is written so well, I mean so so well. How this is your first book makes me so giddy for the rest. Thank you so much for this copy and letting me read all about Emma’s world. It was truly a journey I was happy to read🩷 Can’t wait to watch you succeed!
The Chaos Within by Katelynne Roland 3.5 ⭐️ The story is about resilience. How Emma, who is raised in a toxic family, recognizes the abuse and decides to pursue higher education and move far away despite her family's attempts to bring her down.
Emma's journey is compelling, showcasing her growth from a vulnerable teenager to a strong, independent individual. The author portrays the long-lasting effects of emotional abuse on Emma's relationships and self-perception.
While the book sheds light on toxic family dynamics, it lacks depth in exploring the family's backstory, leaving questions about the parents motivations.
The author's writing style complements the story's emotional tone, balancing introspection with hopeful moments. The pacing seamlessly shifts between past and present, creating a sense of depth. The dialogue authentically captures the complex relationships and emotional struggles.
However, I struggled with the writing style. Compared to my previous read, 'The Oxford Year,' I found the prose to be less polished. Unfortunately, grammatical errors detracted from my reading experience. Tighter editing would elevate the narrative.
Overall, it’s a beautiful story about family, friendship, and self-discovery.
After reading this, I love the cover even more 😍 (ifykyk 🗿🥚)
This was such a wonderful story about personal growth, found family, and most importantly love. The struggles the MC endured were so raw and realistic which made the story even more relatable and impactful for me. The last 25% had me in the edge of my seat sweating with anticipation…I can totally envision a sequel or novella 😉
Overall I really enjoyed this debut novel from katelynne, I’m looking forward to her future work 📚
What a Fantastic debut for this author! This story of trauma, love and finding self-acceptance was beautifully written and told through the eyes of the main character, Emma. Throughout the entire story, I wanted to go into the pages to hug her and tell her that I’m here for her. There were also times when I wanted to go into the pages and defend Emma against the people who were hurting her. I cannot wait to see where this author continues to go in her career as an author. With this beautiful written story, where the characters were so well developed, you could feel their emotions, I only anticipate great things to continue to come.
I read this book so fast! I could've easily finished it in a day if I didn't have to work, I was that hooked! From the heartbreaking trauma the FMC endures, to the strong female friendships, to the relationships gained and lost, this story left me emotionally wrecked but for all the right reasons! The protagonist, Emma, is so smart and resilient, but her past holds her back from making any real connection with the people around her. The love interest, Marco, is the emotionally intelligent, dedicated, supportive, and sexy boyfriend we all dream about! And the neighbors Bethany and Clara are the friends Emma so desperately needs and deserves!
The author also added several locations that exist irl in Copenhagen which I would love to check out someday! In particular, I want to eat at Maple Casual Dining, a cozy and chic restaurant that Marco takes Emma to on their first date.
This book is very well written. The female MC Emma is on a journey of self discovery by Moving abroad to Denmark to cope & try to forget her past. While meeting new a people. Especially a new Man who’s a photographer.
This Book made me go through all stages of emotions to anger, happiness, sadness, to giddiness, heartbreak & closure. It was such a beautiful story Highly recommended.
Did I write the book?! Absolutely! If you’re looking for a book that will give you all the feels, look no more! A story about love, heartbreak and redemption.
