Regret #2

Alpha's Redemption: My Luna Has A Son

Rate this book
Everly emerged from the shadows of disgrace and rejection, not just surviving but thriving. She’s forged an empire from the scorned and the forgotten. Everly, cast aside by her own pack, faced a path that should have led to her ruin. Yet, in the face of betrayal and adversity, she didn't break; instead, she forged herself into something powerful.

But the past isn’t easily forgotten.

Alpha Valen, a man haunted by regret, reappears, seeking redemption. He finds a woman unbroken, unclaimed, and unparalleled. Valen is fighting for love and acceptance in Everly’s world, where strength is born from betrayal, and power rises from the ashes of heartbreak.

Everly’s battle is two-fold - a public fight for the dignity of the rogues and a private war against the magnetic pull of a mate bond she neither wants nor trusts. Valen thought he could claim her, but he’s met with a reality where the woman before him wasn’t to be claimed but respected, a force not to be contained but reckoned with.Trigger Warning

This book contains sensitive content including SA, grief, loss, and violence. Reader discretion is advised as some may find these topics triggering.

However, much like the first book, these girls can survive anything, and everything and come out stronger for it.

Disappointing conclusion to Alpha duology

2.5 stars

While Alpha's Regret, the first book in this series, developed the characters and relationships, this follow up is a lot of plot - some of it very convoluted. It feels like the author is racing to answer open questions and show the outcomes for each character. In some cases, characters do an about face with their motivations not being believably explained.

Note that there is a scene with a violent gang rape of a featured character. There is also a kidnapping with an attempted sexual assault.

This book just won't end. So many things are happening with no explanation, or an explanation after the fact to fill in the gaps. No one is telling anyone the truth and it's just a mess of miscommunication.

Every character is getting their own POV chapter because all of their stories are being told in one book. It's too busy and I've stopped caring about what happens to any of them 🤷‍♀️

Enemies to Lovers/Wolf shifters/Rejected Mate/Muti PoV (not just MCs)

SYNOPSIS (of Duet): This story is set in a world where humans and shifters (although the author calls them werewolves) live alongside one another but the shifters are marginalised. The FC, Everley, is thrown out of her pack and disowned after sleeping with an Alpha (Valen) and getting pregnant. This makes her a rogue. She tries to contact the father but he ignores her calls and later, when their paths cross again, she realises that they are mates but he doesn‘t and unintentionally rejects her. Everley is taken in by another rogue who becomes like a second mother to her and she and some other rogues build a family together and a business. Fast forward 5 years and the MC discovers Everley is his mate but she doesn‘t want him. She is slowly dying, having been rejected by him, and had to suffer the pain of him sleeping with other women. The story arc covers how they get together with a backdrop of an evil Alpha who is against giving rogue wolves any rights and who wants to take over all the packs in the area.

Heat Level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️/🍆🍆 The sex scenes themselves are well written and pretty hot but relatively vanilla in content. They don‘t take over the duet and there are only a handful of full scenes.

The writing is decent with a story that starts off strong but then seems to lose its way and start meandering. It also starts in dual PoV but then moves into multi PoV with secondary characters having their own PoV chapters. The FC is a good, strong heroine who does not just roll over when presented with her mate but makes him fight for it (although not for very long!). The MC was likeable and pretty alpha (but not overly so) although I did find the constant womanising (before he finds his mate) and drinking a bit much. There is a decent backstory which provides some depth to the overall story and the characters and there is a good cast of supporting characters but whilst you get a fair amount of detail around the individual characters and their live‘s you don‘t get much in terms of pack life or pack interaction (i.e. the bigger picture) which was strange and meant that whilst there were all these packs there were only really a handful of people carrying the story. The results was a lack of substance to the story.

Book 1 started off with a good rejection storyline but then seemed to lose its way with gaps in the story and elements that were not completed. Such as, what happened about the facility and all that went on with Emily? Who set the fire in the hotel? I also found that when the story moved to book 2 it became a story not really about the 2 main characters but about multiple characters each finding their mate and then having their own chapters. For me this detracted from the story. I wanted a story focussed on the two main characters and not an ensemble cast. The result was that Everley and Valen seemed to become secondary characters and Everley was pregnant for a large part of the story which meant that she didn‘t really do anything. So, whilst there was the feel of some drama the story never actually delivered, the author seemed to keep starting to create some depth but not following through. Frustrating! It could have been so much better.

All in all this did not do it for me. It was too „all over the place“ and the story did not deliver. I‘m annoyed I got sucked into buying these books 😔

So good!

First and foremost, I’m so happy that I was able to find this book on Amazon instead of paying ridiculous fees on a third-party reading app. I really really really enjoyed the story. I connect so much to Everly and that need for independence. It was like I was reading about myself. I’m glad she got her happy ending.

Alpha's Redemption- My Luna Has A Son
Regret Series Book 2
by Jessica Hall
Narrated by Gunnar Qualen, Jenna St Claire

I don't know how Jessica Hall gets all these characters to talk to her, but what a world she has created. I am immediately transported back into the world of alphas, lunas, rogues and foresakens and then completely immersed myself into their lives. This book picks up where Alpha's Regret leaves off and there is Everly, Valen and Valerian right there! With points of view from most of the characters,it was easy to to understand the melding of the people as emotions came into play. I love the push pull between Everly and Valen, no matter the circumstance. Everly knows her role as the the Alpha's wife, but she is a rogue at heart and will never give up her people. Everly's best friends are also featured with their own lives taking on new paths, finding their way, sacrificing to save others and able to seek out their true loves. The war was on, the suspense was high and the emotional trials hard at times to get through. I loved this story. Bring on more, I would love to hear what happens to Everly's sister, Ava! It's a world I easily fell into and was captivated.

And bringing it all to life is Gunnar Qualen and Jenna St Claire. This team has become these characters! The duet narration is spot on, giving each character a voice and just the right amount of emotions. From Qualen giving Valen his angry alpha, to St Claire screaming with Everly in labor, I was able to picture it all in my mind. These two are fantastic as always and enhanced the book with their incredible performance.

Oh boy. I thought book 1 was bad. This was an absolute train wreck. Why was it so long 😭😭😭

Way way wayyyy too much going on. Side characters having their own POVs, which I absolutely do not care about, too many flowery words. Found myself skimming a lot of shit like:

You have no idea what it’s like until you hit rock bottom”

It was depressing before, now it was as cold and dead as I felt inside

A lot of info dumping. Seemed the author was making things up as she went along. Any new piece of information was explained away as something the girls had already discussed. Cos they’re sistas!!!

Hated her family in the first book and they defo do not deserve to be a part of her life. You thought you were protecting her? How?? Kicking her out of your house, slut shaming her, disowning her. This girl has been raising a newborn baby on HER OWN in a run down car. You couldn’t give her any money? Hmmmm? And where did you expect her to live?? Protecting her? You can shove that excuse right up your ass John.

FMC became unbearable. She was headstrong and a girl boss in the first book. In this one she’s kinda just annoying. She challenges her dad for her pack claiming she can beat him but we don’t get to see it. Why? Why do we never see these awesome self defence skills her dad taught her? There’s 2 fight scenes with her getting put on her ass by Valen in one and her dad just straight up submitting to her in the other. We never see it but you best believe her dad is the BEST at fighting.

The whole plot was bullshit. The obvious characters turned out to be villains, all our heroes and heroines survive. And they all lived happily ever after.

really? where was the redemption?

I soooo wanted to love this book, or even really like it. The storyline was great but I was constantly disappointed in the lead characters. Talk is cheap and when it came down to it she let alpha-hole (aka Valen) make all the decisions. It was even her fault that she didn’t try harder to tell him about her son. He’s mad because she doesn’t tell him something that she’s given him power over her to veto…what was that about? After all he did to her she never should have let him mark her… or at least wait till he stops being an a**hole. Instead of deciding on baby names together he chooses them, prepares ID bracelets and announces them. They are rarely a team except that he knows he needs the rogues on his side, so that benefits him. She doesn’t want children and he conveniently forget the condom. After getting the dog (no more children and the trade is the dog from hell) because she doesn’t want them, he finds a half price car to bring it up again. He’s pretty disgusting. And her friends didn’t support her! They just laughed! The whole book became so uncomfortable to read I had to start skimming in order to follow the plot to see the end while disliking everyone more and more. Keep thinking of storylines but maybe have someone help with writing characters that aren’t icky.

3⭐️. I liked the book at the beginning since the past book ended with a lot happening it was nice to find out how those things went. I got a little bored in the middle though when Tatum broke up with Macey just because of his broken leg. At the end it became more entertaining with Zoey and Ava being kidnapped and Everly being in labour while Macey was now kidnapped instead of Zoey and Ava. But I don’t quite understand why the ending had to have like 8 chapters over multiple years like just take one epilogue and not so many chapters. And another thing I got really mad at which is really silly is the dog and Valen since they got a dog since Everly mainly didn’t want more kids but just to get Valen of her back she said that if he wanted a baby then she wanted a Ferrari and six months later Valen started acting weird and that just pissed me off I don’t know why it just did. And then he «calmed his end of the deal». Overall with the ending chapters almost everything they did and the characters except Everly pissed me off. But the action parts was really good but at the same time some parts of the book mainly the ending pissed me of and since that’s the thing I read last I want to give it a worse rating, but the overall book wasn’t that bad. I just hated the ending.

storyline: 4.5/5
smut: 4/5 (not much smut to be honest)
spiciness: 4/5 (not much spiciness too)
------------------------------------------------

this book is like a roller coaster of emotions. i don't know how many times i cried while reading this book. the bond and how protective of the 3 besties + their mates are like one that 1 would definitely die for and not to mention how they are loving with their dads. the bickering between characters really cracks me up to the point where i would re-read it over and over again.

then comes the sacrifice of one of them is really something. not many would have the courage. i swear i was reading it without wanting to put it down if i don't have to work.

Unnecessarily descriptive sexual violence - and more dissapointment

*spoiler alert*

There are violent rape scenes in this book I didn’t see coming at all. It was awful. I still finished the book but only so I could properly review it.

I hated the depiction of the sexual violence. It was unnecessary. It could have been understood without such vulgar and detailed desertion.
The themes and characterization of characters in this book were completely different from book 1 - it didn’t track or make much sense to me.
The plot was ALL over the place and the book felt like it was ending/over about 10 times before it actually was over. The plot didn’t make much sense overall and felt contrived.

Re: the themes - I almost felt like the author worked EXTRA hard to prove that she wasn’t trying to be pro life in the first book. It was really dissapointing to see that shift.

Overall, would not recommend. Don’t read the first book either bc it ends on a cliffhanger.

English

I found it long and not so focused on the main couple, they tell us more about the city, the alliances and enmities. The book focuses more on the internal power struggle between the packs. I didn't enjoy it as much, and at times I found it tiring.

TW: SA & kidnapping

Me pareció largo y ya no tan centrado en la pareja principal, nos cuentan más de la ciudad, las alianzas y enemistades. El libro se centra más en la lucha interna de poder entre las manadas. No lo disfrute tanto, y en momentos me pareció cansado.

It took me quite a while to finish this book. I was determined to finish it, but I struggled. In the end, it was fine. I'm not saying its at the top of the list of books I'd recommend. The shifters had limitations that I've not experienced in my extensive reading of shifter romances. I'm not sure I like it. However the plot was ok. I appreciate that the author had a sequel and not a long series. And I appreciate that there's only 2 books in series. The narrators were decent, I appreciated the dual narration. This book was a lot longer than it needed to be.

I liked the first book and was eager to read the 2nd. I should have read the synopsis before delving in. I was just so invested in the story that I skipped it. Anyway, this book was all over the place and although we expect character development it seems personality were changed as well. Also, I don’t like to read about someone being SA’d, and it was graphic in this book. There is a trigger warning for this noted in the synopsis but as I mentioned before I was so eager to jump into this second part, I didn’t read it. I ended up DNF it. The writing is good overall.

This story as a whole was very good. It unfortunate that the story was broken into two. I read this online before it was published and there were a lot of typos. The story is solid though. There is one death in particular that I just sobbed at and think about constantly. I wish the ending wasn’t so cliche and the title screams “cheesy shifter romance” but this book is so much more. I fell in love with the characters and the story.

I do have to say this one definitely needs a TW: Kidnapping, TW: Rape, for those looking to avoid reading those things. I know those are in the Goodreads synopsis, but as someone who read the first book and dove right into this it definitely took me by surprise.

Was kind of hoping the epilogue would be Ava finding her mate, instead it was an annoying dog and an annoying mate situation.

Fantastic storylines with the best humour!

I have loved reading this book. It gives you all types of emotions and never tires of mixing it up. I have never laughed out loud so much when reading a book which isn’t a comedy but the humour is fantastic. Brilliant storylines. It’s a shame there are only two books. (read by Sharon not Adam)

This book had been laughing out loud at points. Loved how everything was revealed and everyone came together. We get to see everyone’s HEA and valen and everly are a riot together. I love their banter and POVs. The epic showdown takes place like 60% then it’s a lot of epilogues.

Exceptional! I WANT MORE!

Great follow-up to previous book. Great characters and the female isn't a wimp that needs a man to take care of her. But she also finds an excellent mate who doesn't feel he has to put her under his thumb.

Good story

Better then what I thought he it would be considering I wasn’t sure where the story could go at the end of book 1. I enjoyed the multi POV’s and everyone got their own ending.

Amazing

This was so well written. Climatic, inspiring, beautiful, gut wrenching, soulful, and tear jerking. The best part of it all is the author weaves the entire story around and around, twisting and turning but still manages to give the most enchanting ending.

Needs editing

You should really have someone edit these and proofread them. Decide which way you're gonna spell a word and stick with it throughout the book. Lotta places where the wording doesn't make sense or it's the wrong name etc. etc..

Otherwise it was pretty good.
