My son (4th grade) read the first book and enjoyed it more than the first. Here’s his review: Darkness Falls is the second book in the Windhollows series. It continues the story of Billy, a baby beanian who had his essence stolen from him by the bad guy Rip Stinker. This book picks up near the ending of the first. A little time went by but not much. There’s more action and more humor and that’s why I liked it more. Plus I got to learn about more of the characters and there’s a new one that reminds me of one of my teachers so that was funny. My favorite parts are when Billy’s dad and friend go on an adventure, when Billy goes on adventure with Teddy and Wendy, and learning about Flabbergaster. The only thing I didn’t like was author made some changes to book but update fixed it.
My middle grade students loved this book. After reading the first book, Air of Vengeance, I decided to read book 2 and loved it. Whereas book 1 felt like a lighthearted intro, book 2 is where the magic starts to happen. New plots unfold, character development improves, and we begin the journey into what should be a good series. The pace is solid. Bane does a good job of keeping the story moving. And like book 1, he ends the story on a high note. Definitely recommend for 4th - 6th grade.
His father friends had been turned to his enemies and now he needs to face it all. His son's may need to come and help with his friends. Can the father stop them without his son help? Can he save his father? See how they all get on

Although I liked book 1, after reading book 2 I felt like book 1 had a lot of backstory. It wasn't bad, but in book 2 the story starts to move along at a faster pace. Definitely a five stars for me. Enjoyable book with action, good story, and I feel connected to characters.
Very cleverly written with a storyline and lots of fun words to make kids and grown-ups (usually men) laugh. This is a fun read for all ages with characters that are fun beyond their silly names.

I enjoyed this book even more than the first one! The Rip Stinker character is the sort of villain you almost find yourself rooting for. Can't wait for the next one!
