Phoenix Smith has enjoyed being a foster parent for six years. She adopted her daughter Georgette from birth, and continued to open her home and heart to children in need. When nine-year-old Jessica Adams comes to stay with Phoenix, she instantly notices that something is peculiar about Jessica. The dynamic of the household changes and a peculiar turn of events makes Phoenix reconsider if she is in over her head.
Mannn Jessica little self is something else. I honestly thought she would’ve done something to Georgie by now or maybe even Phoenix but that hasn’t come yet! I know what’s about to happen to Simone tho! I’m even more shocked that she told the truth!!! Man this leaves me confused cause yes she’s scary but her heart means well!
Very intriguing story, not to mention the beautiful cover. Little Jessica is quite the peculiar, protective child. I’m interested to see what happens in part two.
Thank you Kindle Unlimited for offering me the short story. The author is Bryanna Mone’t, this is my first book reading her book and it’s been good. Fostering is a challenging journey for everyone involved. This is a mild story of how being a Fostering Parent, the children in the family and the foster child. As a parent once you get a feeling about a situation you must not take lightly. Good book I’m looking forward to reading more from this author.
I Know What I Saw by Bryanna Mone’t has captured my attention in a thrilling way! I'm eagerly anticipating what the young Jessica, just 9 years old, is capable of! There's definitely something unusual about her. Watch out, Phoenix and Georgie!
I was intrigued by the cover. It was an easy 50 pages. The story didn’t start getting interesting until the end. The cliffhanger makes you want to know what happens. But, I can’t say that I’m too invested in finding out. The majority of this novella was information that wasn’t really needed to take the story where it eventually goes. Overall, it was mildly entertaining.
2.75/5⭐️ Great short read. Jessica is certainly creepy. I get distracted by plot holes/contradictions very easily and this book had a few of them. Great cover art!
What would you do if the sweet little foster child you welcomed into your home wasn’t exactly… normal?
That’s the question I Know What I Saw forces readers to ask.
Jessica appears to be your typical little girl. Quiet. Observant. Innocent.
Or so everyone thinks.
The deeper I got into this story, the more I realized Jessica isn’t just watching what’s happening around her, she’s influencing it. Strange events begin unfolding, accidents seem a little too convenient, and every time someone hurts or disrespects her foster mother, Phoenix, justice somehow finds them.
And Jessica?
Well…
Let’s just say she takes protecting Phoenix very seriously.
One of my favorite moments involved Phoenix’s boss, Fred. This man promised Phoenix overtime pay and then conveniently forgot about it. Jessica did not appreciate that.
Fred had what he called his “special lotion,” and Jessica decided it needed a little adjustment.
The result?
Let’s just say when Fred applied that lotion, his private parts learned a lesson his paycheck never could.
I was absolutely crying laughing during this scene. Fred got exactly what was coming to him, and Jessica’s brand of revenge is both hilarious and terrifying.
What makes this book work so well is the balance between suspense and dark humor. One minute you’re laughing at someone’s well-deserved karma, and the next you’re wondering if Jessica is an innocent child, a misunderstood protector, or something far more sinister.
The entire novel carries this unsettling feeling that something isn’t quite right. Jessica’s actions blur the line between justice and obsession, making readers question whether they’re rooting for a hero or a villain.
What I Loved:
✔ Creepy child character done right ✔ Dark humor mixed with suspense ✔ Unpredictable twists ✔ Jessica’s fierce loyalty to Phoenix ✔ Moments that had me laughing and side-eyeing at the same time
Final Thoughts:
I Know What I Saw is one of those thrillers that keeps you entertained while making you increasingly uncomfortable in the best possible way. Jessica may look like an adorable little girl, but beneath that innocent face lies something far darker. Every page left me wondering what she would do next and who would become her next target.
If you enjoy psychological thrillers with creepy children, dark humor, mystery, and a touch of chaos, add this one to your TBR immediately.
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
“Jessica doesn’t play about Ms. Phoenix… and anyone who hurts her might want to start sleeping with one eye open.”
This was my first book by this author, and I have to say, that little girl was something else. She had me completely intrigued. I found myself wanting to know more about her backstory. what happened to make her the way she is, who her parents are, and whether there’s more to her history that we haven’t learned yet.
Her character left me with so many questions, and that curiosity alone makes me want to keep reading. On to Part 2.
This little girl is too much and got me feeling okay about the fact that my certification to Foster expired. I was just disappointed that it ended cuz you're getting into it and then it just ends and then you have to go on to the next book which I would rather it all been in this one book LOL
This short story is full of suspense and wonder as we see the unfolding of Jessica’s story. She means well to help her family but something feels off… I can’t wait to see how the family barbecue plays out
This is some craziness. You never know who you’re inviting into your house. They tell you to fear adults, but hold that same energy with children because they are the most unassuming.
