The Witching Pen #5
Saving Eve: A Companion Novel to The Witching Pen Series
Author's Note: Saving Eve is a companion novel to The Witching Pen series, and should be read after The Last Dragon.
Amid long, wild grass, a snake slithers, hidden.
Hidden until a man opens his eyes…
Awaking with amnesia in St Mary's Hospital, after a near-fatal freak accident, he is known only as Luc. With the help of Evie Gold, the kind, young woman who found him, he starts a new life – a second chance, a clean slate.
A bond burgeons between them.
But disturbing dreams of dark deeds become waking recountings. A blackness is uncoiling – seductive, familiar and dangerously provocative.
An ancient craving stirs; an old addiction rises.
Nothing is as it seems, and as reality crumbles, Luc finds himself asking, not just who he is, but...
Who is Evie?
From the author of the international bestselling Witching Pen series, Dianna Hardy takes a seed from The Last Dragon, and brings you an existential story of two beings in search of completion.

It is always a delight when Dianna sends me one of her "It's finished, would you like to Beta read it?" messages, because I just know that, whatever her latest project is, I'm just going to have a heck of a ride reading it. It is especially true of this book.
"The Witching Pen Series" is one of my all time favourites and I was extremely excited to get this latest instalment and to learn the fate of Lucifer, possibly the only loose end I really wanted to see tied.
The story follows his awakening after the final events of "The Last Dragon", he wakes up with no memory of who he is, or what he is. Fate conspires to bring him together with Evie, a woman he is ineffably drawn to. Her innocence, loneliness and melancholy resonate with him and will lead him into a journey that is wonderfully intricate and introspective.
To say I loved this book is not really enough. I connected with this book, it spoke to me, it made me reflect over who I am as a woman. Not many books can do that.
Lucifer's character is stripped bare. In "The Last Dragon" he was enigmatic and aloof. In "Saving Eve" he is brutally naked, you see every crack and every wound, you get to know him so completely and fall in love with his vulnerability, but also the steel within.
Evie is his reversed half. She seems collected and strong at first, but as you peel the layers, you discover her burden, her fears and hopes, but most of all her soul, the soul that is within every woman throughout her journey.
Together they make sense, and the world around them gains meaning.
The plot was a delight of smoke and mirrors. Without giving too much away, nothing is as it seems in this book, and the ending captivated me in a way that few books have before.
The story is romantic, but not a Romance. It is erotic but not Erotica. Paranormal but simply human. It is surreal and yet nothing could be more real than the struggle and the emotion and the feelings Evie and Luc's story evokes.
A stunning finish to Lucifer's story, a wonderful conclusion to a world mythology that has completely blown me away.
"Saving Eve" is a true delight and one I will re read many times in the years to come.
A must read for fans of "The Witching Pen Series", I would recommend anyone who loves stories of creation origins picks up the first book in the series, "The Witching Pen", and embarks on a journey that will in the end lead them to this beautiful final chapter.
"Saving Eve" is by far my favourite book of the year.

"I have to say that the interpretation and twist of well known biblical stories is astounding. I mean, wow, Dianna Hardy has really reached in and turned one dimensional, well known characters into three dimensional ones. I mean, she has breathed life into these characters; these biblical beings we have heard about time and time again, and you really feel for them.
I mean, everything in the world is balance; good and evil, right and wrong, light and darkness, but even so, life isn’t so black and white and that is what Dianna has brought to these well known characters; balance." - Elizabeth Morgan's Review of The Last Dragon, by Dianna Hardy
The above is a quote from my review of The Last Dragon by Dianna Hardy, which was the spin-off novel to her The Witching Pen Series. Why have I quoted myself? Simply because what I wrote in regards to The Last Dragon and why I loved it so much carries through and is still so very strong in Saving Eve.
I apologize in advance, this review is more me gushing and fan-girling over the fact that I just loved this book as much as I loved TWP Series and The Last Dragon, and well, all of Dianna Hardy's books. I have said it in pretty much every review, but I will say it again; Dianna is such a talented writer, and an inspiration. I know that when I pick up her books I would enjoy the heck out of them, and she never fails to disappoint.
So the fan-girling shall now commence....
The world building for TWP Series was amazing. It was layered in such a beautiful way combining biblical stories and myths and folklore in such a way that you couldn't help but believe it was the truth. I said it in the review for The Last Dragon - and it goes for all the books in the series - that this world and its creation, the threads that tied it all together through so many beliefs, made it so real, and made more sense to me than anything I was ever taught in Sunday school.
(And I mean that with no disrespect to anyone. I am a very open-minded person and I believe in everything from Angels to mermaids, so please do not take offence by my words. It's just how I feel.)
What I loved about the series and The Last Dragon, what I loved about Lucifer, is what I loved straight away about Saving Eve. These well known religious stories - Eve and the apple, Lucifer's fall etc - and these well known biblical characters have always been so one dimensional. Eve was good but made the wrong decision, Lucifer is evil and wrong, full stop. There is no room for interpretation, unless you're a writer with such an amazing imagination and view, which Dianna Hardy is. She has given them life. She has given them balance. She has given them personalities and reasons. She has made them real and you feel for them, you understand them.
We met Lucifer and learnt a fair deal about him in The Last Dragon, but I was so excited to hear that Dianna was writing more about him, that there was more to be discovered. My heart went out for him in the Last Dragon and I loved that Saving Eve started off from his final scene in the book. The opening tied in so well with the spin-off novel in the series, so you still have that connection from The Last Dragon and with the world and character.
I might go cryptic from this point - if I haven't already - but I don't want to give away the story.
Evie/Eve is such a caring, lonely, strong female. You like her and feel for her from page one, and I loved the way that her character unravelled with every scene. The banter between her and Luc is both sweet and funny, and the moments they share are intense; their connection is on a deep level that they don't exactly understand straight away.
With every page you read their history, their story opens up and you feel, or at least I know I did, such hope for them. They have been through a lot, and they have good reasons for their actions, reasons that are so much more understandable; human actions and reasons. It seems crazy to use the word human since our views, I suppose, on what we feel we know about the first woman and the fallen angel are almost that they are on a completely different tier to us and their actions wouldn't be understandable or ordinary.... but like I said, Dianna Hardy has made them three dimensional. She has put her own twist on these characters, she has made them flesh and bone, she has made their story plausible and it all works so perfectly.
So you have this hope for these characters from page one. You are pulled into the flow of the story with so much hope that this time everything is going to work out for them. I got teary toward the end because you realize that the ending you want isn't going to be what happens, but it's fine, because the ending that you get, what happens, is the right ending. It means so much more, and it's so much more satisfying than what you want.
And the way it ends, my god, how everything ties up the threads in the story, and threads that have followed through from The Last Dragon.... perfect. Sad, understandable, makes total sense, and is so so perfect.
There is no other word to use for what I felt for this book. I loved Lucifer, and I knew I would enjoy this book even though Dianna Hardy had stated that it changed from the way she had originally planned it, but after reading the book I, personally, couldn't have asked for a better story. It was meant to be this way. This was how the story was supposed to go, and it was perfect.
If you have read The Witching Pen Series and The Last Dragon - and I apologize for how many times I have said the titles throughout this review - then naturally, you have to read Saving Eve. If you haven't read TWP or The Last Dragon, you need to before you even pick up a copy of Saving Eve. You just need to start from the beginning. It's a journey you must take, and absorb from page one.
I for one would love if Dianna Hardy wrote more in this world and for this series. I loved all the characters, and I have no idea if there is more to tell in regards to them, but for Lucifer - oh Luc <3 - and Eve, this story was on a deeper level of understanding oneself, ones decisions and actions, one's mind, wants and needs. It was raw, emotional, beautiful, and balanced. Perfect finish for Luc and Eve's story.

I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.
Dianna never stops amazing me with her writing. With each story of hers that I have read she knows just the right words to say to open my eyes and mind or at least make me think about the things that we have been taught. If your mind is already open she gives you more to think about and opens your mind even more. I love reading Dianna’s books because I learned something from each and every one that I have read. You’ve heard the saying “My cup runneth over”? Well my cup will never be full or run over. I will always have room for more. My cup doesn’t have a bottom in it.
I love how in Saving Eve that Dianna saw the good and the bad in both Eve aka Evie and Lucifer aka Lucky or Luc for short. We all have a good side and a bad side. With some of us we only show our good side but once in a while something will set us off and our bad side will sneak out until we come to our sense’s and gain control of our bad side again. Then there are some of us who lets our bad side show at all times but once in a while we will let the good side of us peep out.
I also loved how she took biblical characters and told their stories and lives; the way she saw it and gave us a more in depth look into their lives and the people they were and who they became. Eve was a quiet and shy person who stayed to herself. Eve was a lonely woman who thought she was going to spend the rest of her life all alone. Then she met Luc who changed all of that and changed the way she looked at life. Luc had been looking for Eve for a very long time. He searched all four corners of the Earth from one end to the other.
Any writer who can cause you to like someone that you were taught growing up to hate is one amazing author and person in my book. You know it’s not just the words that you are reading that show you the good in Lucifer it is what is in the author’s heart too. It just shows me that Dianna can find good in almost anybody.
There is something about Eve and Lucifer being together that means something to me but I can’t quiet put my finger on it just yet. Not knowing what it is that I feel like I am missing something is frustrating me to the point where I want pull my hair out. UGG! I know that Saving Eve is going to be on my mind for a while until I figure out what it is that I am missing. It has something to do with both Eve and Luc like everyone else as well; having good and evil in them. I don’t know what it is but it is like when their together not only are they balanced but so is the world in its own way.
If you have not read Saving Eve yet then I recommend that you do right now. That is if you have read The Witching Pen Series and The Last Dragon a companion novel to The Witching Pen Series first. Otherwise you will have a difficult time understanding what is going on in Saving Eve. While you are at it why not check out her series Eye of the Storm too. Thanks Dianna for writing such amazing novels and giving me the opportunity to read them.

This is the fifth and final book, and also a spin off of the Witching Pen Series. I loved it!
Luc (or Lucifer) is a completely interesting character. He intrigued me in The Last Dragon, as he is not evil, but as a Fallen Angel, darkness surrounds him. He feeds on the pain and suffering of humans, but he has always loved Eve. This is his story of what happened to him after the dragon awoke and changed the world forever.
Evie is a wonderful character. I am glad to get to know her better. She is the head of the research and analysis team in Earth Sciences at Oxford University. When she finds a stranger, hurt and suffering with amnesia, she feels responsible for him and takes him into her home.
When I heard the author was writing this story, I became very excited. I love The Witching Pen series and Lucifer's story is most definitely the icing on the cake! I was completely hooked from beginning to end. The story starts ten years after the dragon's awakening and the Earth has seen major climate change due to the constant earthquakes that have rumbled ever since. I love how the story follows both Luc and Evie as they try to figure things out and is told from both of their perspectives. Hang on to your hats though, because this is not a typical romance novel! There are several twists and turns that surprised me completely - I was in shock at some of the revelations towards the end of the story. This book took me on an emotional roller coaster ride! It made me laugh and it made me cry. I love both of these characters and, though they are only fictional, they seem to be as real as you and me. I feel sad that this series has come to an end, but I have loved every minute that I have spent with all of the characters of the series. The author has tied all of the events the characters had to face in the series into an amazing journey. I will miss them all, but I can always visit them within the pages of the books on my Kindle.
Dianna Hardy is a fantastic author! I am a HUGE fan of hers! I love her writing style, which is fast paced and fluid, and the flow of the story is wonderful. Her characters are flawed, but this makes them extremely lifelike and likable in my eyes.
As this book contains scenes of explicit sex, I do not recommend this book for readers younger than 17. However, I HIGHLY recommend this book (PLEASE read the Witching Pen novella's and The Last Dragon first though!) if you love erotic paranormal romances full of sexy demons, angels and witches! Oh, and dragons! - Lynn Worton

I have loved this author's stories since I first started the Witching Pen series. Though with this story I felt confused at what was going on at first 10 % into the story I had to go and look up my review of the Last Dragon to see if maybe I had missed something and if my review would clear it up for me. Being as it has been a while since I read the last book. (This was all me and nothing to do with author or the writing) Luckily as I kept reading the story slowly started to make sense for me and when I got to the big revelation of it all and who Evie or Eve really was and the world surrounding her it all made sense and clicked.
This is the last installment in the Witching Pen series so please make sure you read the others way before you read this story.
Lucifer is made to seem the bad guy but all he is is angel who has fought off the blood lust when he fell because of his love of one person. Eve. She is the one person that he has thought about for centuries just the same as her, they are meant to be even though she was always promised to Adam.
Eve finds a man in front of her house and she feels she should take care of him, now this man who shall be named Lucky and later on named Luc has no memory of who he is, but as time progresses his memory returns and that is thanks to Eve.
When you learn about Lucifer he is this bad person but in this story we learn he wasn't all that bad and it makes you have a heart for him.
The love that Eve and Lucifer have for each other is magical and the way she describes him "entering" her is just pure bliss. I really liked how the author used the biblical characters to make this story work but didn't cram religion down your throat, it was like her own spin on how everything in the world came to be and it was refreshing.
Though I enjoyed the story a whole lot being as we get to an insight to Lucifer it wasn't my most favorite story out of the series.

'Saving Eve' takes the reader on a journey filled with intrigue and passion. There are some books that draw you in quickly and easily, some where it's easy to relate to characters, and some that drag you into their world allowing you to follow the fierce emotions and struggles of the characters, making it impossible not to journey with them and enjoy every single moment of it. Dianna Hardy is a writing genius! I came into reading this with high expectation since I had read The Witching Pen series and was already intrigued by Lucifer. She greatly surpassed those expectations!
I just could not put it down and had to read in one sitting. I had to see where the story was going. It definitely took a turn I never saw coming or would have suspected. After finishing and closing the book, all I could say was WOW that was INCREDIBLE!
This is the story of Luc and Evie, of how they meet, the pull between them and their inner demons fighting against them.
I recommend reading The Witching Pen Series first so that you can fully appreciate Saving Eve. You will not be disappointed!
Another 5 stars!

It blew me away
I'm a huge fan of the author, Diannas imagination and the way in which she brings characters to life is outstanding.
Saving Eve is no exception - although a stand alone book, it is also a companion novella of The Witching Pen series. I already had a soft spot for Lucifer, and this gave me a fix whilst also explaining the before, after and everything inbetween!
Simply beautiful, I loved it.
