Questa volta la protagonista è Mila Davenport, una donna forte ma spezzata dentro, la sua storia mi ha toccata e mi ha fatto molto riflettere.
Lei è una surfista, vivrebbe con il mare davanti, la tavola sotto i piedi e il vento nei capelli. Purtroppo un incidente improvviso cambia tutto, le viene tolta la possibilità di cavalcare le onde e quella sensazione di libertà che aveva sempre amato. Mila è costretta a fermarsi, dovrà imparare a convivere con la paura, con il silenzio e con il vuoto.
Herschel è un uomo dal passato altrettanto difficile, è un uomo affascinante, intelligente, ma profondamente segnato.
All’inizio i due si scontrano, si pungono, si studiano.
La loro storia crescerà pian piano attraverso piccoli gesti, sguardi, parole dette e non dette.
Impareranno un passo alla volta che a volte amare significa proprio condividere le proprie fragilità. Eppure, quando Mila e Herschel si concedono un po’ di fiducia tutto cambia.
Sono rimasta molto colpita dalla forza silenziosa di Mila; è una donna vera, capace di rimboccarsi le maniche e sorridere anche quando tutto dentro di lei urla.
A volte bisogna lasciarsi attraversare dalle onde, anche quando fanno male. È l’unico modo per tornare a riva.
Le onde della California è un romanzo che parla di ferite e rinascita, di paura e fiducia, di coraggio e vulnerabilità.
Bella Andre ha una scrittura scorrevole, quasi intima, il ritmo è più pacato rispetto al primo volume, infatti, mi è un po’ mancato il tono frizzante e passionale a cui ero abituata.
È un libro che ci parla di amore vero, di quello che non ha bisogno di promesse grandiose ma di presenza, costanza e verità. Se cercate una storia d’amore che vi riempia il cuore e vi doni una sensazione di pace sicuramente fa al caso vostro.

California Waves is the second book in The Davenports series that is set in Carmel-by-the-sea, California. Though I believe this story can be read and enjoyed as a standalone book, it’s so much better when read after book #1 (California Dreaming) as it picks up essentially where the first book ends.
This is the story of former pro-surfer, now successful real estate agent, Mila Davenport and Herschel Greenfield, nerdy astronaut extraordinaire. When these two first meet, the sparks fly instantly but neither acts on them right away.
Mila enjoys her life the way it is, surfing in the early mornings, a successful career, time spent with family and friends as well as the occasional no-strings-attached relationship. As her brother Archer and his fiancée Tessa plan their upcoming wedding, she is enjoying helping with the planning process but knows that will never be her life. Herschel is new to the area and still dealing with the debilitating effects from an accident a year prior when returning after a lengthy space mission.
As their paths begin to cross in this seaside town and they spend more time together, they begin to get closer and their growing feelings for each other become harder to ignore. Mila helps Hersch find the perfect house for him to move to Carmel, the finally stop ignoring their growing attraction to each other and she also works to help him overcome his issues stemming from that accident a year ago.
This is such a fun story to lose yourself in – I loved how both Mila and Herschel had to admit their fears and accept help to overcome them. Already counting the days to the next Davenport book!

California Waves had me feeling so many emotions. I am not sure I should have been feeling jealousy but I did. The real factor of the story had me wishing for a family like the Davenports. The real factor had me wishing I lived in a place like Carmel-by-the-Sea. Although I would love to live in Carmel. It is such a gorgeous place with a lovely small town feel.
California Waves was inspirational. Many years ago Mila was a professional surfer and broke her back. She was told she would never walk again. She may no longer a professional surfer but she rides the waves. She is just what Hershel needs even if he doesn't want to admit it. He is afraid of the waves she has conquered. He fears if he doesn't conquer them, conquer the fear, than he will no longer be who he was, an astronaut.
California Waves was a beautiful small town romance with a major bonus. The story has more Arch and Tessa love from California Dreaming. The story has more of all the Davenports. As Mila and Herschel walk down the street of denial, her family sees the truth. Throughout the pages their love grows as the pages heat up with their connection.
California Waves was a lovely escape. It was just what my heart needed. I closed the book with a big smile, looking forward to reading about more of the Davenports in the future.

What a delightful story, as a couple... Overcoming trauma is not easy, but your soulmate can help.
Mila Davenport is a former medalist surfer but had an accident while surfing and now surfs just for pleasure and teaches people how to surf, but she became the best realtor in Carmel by the Sea. Herschel Greenfield is an astronaut, a space scientist, also an athlete, he competed in Ironman several times, but in one of his returns from onde Spacial Mission his space capsule After a perfect reentry and landing in water and after all the other astronauts on the mission were safe awaiting rescue and before Herschel was safe a huge wave caught him and sank him and he almost died, a near-death trauma that made him afraid of the sea, but he is a scientist and wants to overcome the trauma by being close to the sea.
On a visit to Carmel by the Sea he meets the goddess of the waves, Mila, first with her image on a canvas and then in person, the attraction is immediate... Can Mila help the beautiful astronaut overcome the trauma of the sea and find the house he wants to buy to live in Carmel? Can Herschel help Mila fall in love and overcome the trauma of relationships, of trusting a man again?
Another beautiful love story, with overcoming, friendship, companionship and a family united by love and complicity, loving the Davenports and already looking forward to the family's next stories.

Mila Davenport was from a family of overachievers that were the nicest and caring people you would ever know. I can’t imagine the pain and emotions that Mila went through when at the height of her surfing career she had a horrible accident in the water and had to retire. I loved how strong she was and determined to surf for pleasure again. She also made a career change to realtor and was great at it. Herschel an astronaut was in Carmel and saw a painting of Mila surfing and was mesmerized by it. I can’t imagine what he thought when a Hollywood agent for Mila’s brother Arch wanted to make a movie of Herschel’s life starring Arch since Herschel was a hero and saved other astronauts when their splash down didn’t go as planned. I felt so bad for him as had a problem with the ocean now that he was determined to get over.
Herschel was told Mila was the best realtor in Carmel so he went to her to find him a house right away. You could feel the attraction for each other. Herschel thought he would never find anyone to love. I loved how Mila and Herschel first became friends and all the fun they had. Herschel hit it off with her whole family that was fun to watch. This is such a good love story, I strongly encourage you to read it.

Although the titles can stand alone, you will enjoy meeting Mila Davenport in California Dreaming, which features the meeting of Mila and Herschel Greenfield, our couple in Book 2.
Mila and Hersch quickly discover that the most painful experiences of their lives — details of which they have kept from their families — are what draw them together. Mila was a pro surfer when an accident on the water ended her career. Herschel is an astronaut who nearly drowned during the splashdown of his mission. If he’s afraid to go back into the water, how can he continue to go to space?
Watching these two heal from their past wounds, both individually and together, is wonderful. Our authors also are expert at keying in on family dynamics and presenting humorous and touching get-togethers with parents and siblings who have known you forever.

California Waves is sweet, romantic, swoony, emotional, and everything you'd expect from a seasoned, successful author like Andre. I loved the story, the setting, the characters.....all of it!
Herschel and Mila were such great characters. Both suffered trauma in different forms that prevented them from following their true passions. But they were both destined for something bigger as their chemistry upon their first meeting showed. Both were gun-shy about forming a relationship but their passion and love for one another persisted and these two turned out to be so much more than I expected. What a great story! 4.5 stars

I love the Davenport clan. They're a talented, down to earth, close knit family who celebrate their triumphs and tragedies together. The love that flows between them is easily recognizable. In California Waves, Bella Andre pairs an astronaut and a surfer with white hot results.

Wow! Two books in and I already want to be a Davenport!! I thought I would only ever want to be a Sullivan but it seems I was wrong. Bella Andre and Nicki Arden have given us a wonderful new family to love and watch them each fall in love. What a great family, from Howie and Betsy, to all the siblings.
I love this book so much!! Mila is so awesome! And I just love her with Herschel. He is amazing! I do not think either of them was ready for the other, but boy are they simply perfect together. I’m so glad they just let things happen. They bring out the best in each other and Mila helps Hersch so much, from finding him the best house to getting him to face his biggest fear. And the special event that happens in this book is so special, heartwarming, and wonderful. I felt all the emotions and couldn’t get enough! Can’t wait for more Davenports!

Bella Andre and Nicky Arden are teaming up to bring us a new series of six siblings, The Davenports. Carmel-By-The-Sea is the beautiful setting for the Davenport family. California Waves is the newest love story in this series of Mila Davenport and Herschel Greenfield. I’d say that when these two meet it is pretty much insta-love with a slow burn. I love Bella Andre and Nicky Arden writing together. All the characters in this series are beautiful (inside and out), have great personalities, are super big into being supportive of their family members, and passionate for their careers with a strong work ethic. Mila and Herschel both have experienced some difficult times in their past and they recognize that in each other. This helps bring these two together but will it be enough to help them reach their HEA? California Waves is a perfect summer beach read!! 5 stars

I loved Herschel and Mila together. I liked how their backstories were similar regarding their issues with the ocean. I also found Herschel's career as an astronaut interesting. I don't think I've ever read a romance novel about an astronaut. At times I kept thinking of Tony Nelson on I Dream of Jeannie because that was my main frame of reference, lol
My only issue about the book was how much of it was devoted to the planning of Tessa and Archer's wedding. I did enjoy the previous book, which focused on their relationship. I also get that the Davenport family is super close and mostly lives in the same town, so it would make sense to have their wedding to be featured in this book. I just wish it had been kept to a few scenes. I wanted even more Mila and Herschel scenes.

The next Davenport to get a happily-ever-after is Mila Davenport, a pro-surfer who nearly lost her career in an accident. Similarly, Herschel Greenfield is an astronaut who almost lost his life in his last space mission. Both have their own fears to face before they can get back on their feet, but the authors did a wonderful job of bringing these two together and creating a sweet romance that both heals and excites.

Mila Davenport and Herschel Greenfield both went through traumatic events, but their recovery was completely different. Mila was a pro surfer who broke her back. The doctors told her walking would be difficult leave alone surfing and against all odds, she not only walks but also surfs for pleasure and teaches others. Herschel is an astronaut. When returning from a space mission, his splashdown went wrong and he almost drowned, leaving him with a fear of the ocean.
California waves was a beautiful small town read. I loved the connection and support between Mila and Herschel. Having gone through a life threatening event Mila knew exactly how to support and help Herschel overcome his fear. The family bond and catching up with Arch and Tessa a wonderful bonus.
Look forward to reading more in the series !

An inspirational and fabulously sweet story. Mila retired from professional surfing with a career ending back injury and now teaches for fun after a hard recovery, in conjunction with her real estate job. Herschel is looking for somewhere quiet to live after only just surviving the re-entry of his pod from the international space station, after spending time there as an astronaut, where he almost drowned.
Mila offered to find him a house and the more time they spent together the closer they get. Her family can recognise their attraction but Herschel’s dangerous job has him holding back from committing to a relationship. As Mila tries to get him to recover from his trauma, will they be able to find love with each other?

Mila grew on me. I felt like when she started to fall for Herschel, he helped soften some of her rougher edges. I liked Mila's strength and perseverance. I loved the way she supported Herschel and helped him as he worked to overcome is trauma. I also loved the way Herschel had enough trust in Mila to embrace her help with him working through his fear.
The Davenports were the quintessential loving, supportive, loyal family. Whatever their siblings, family members, or friends endure the Davenports are going to be right there to assist.

Carmel-by-the-Sea is a beautiful beach community that is home to the Davenport family. This second book in the series has Mila Davenport as one of the main characters. The first book’s main characters are part of book two, although it is not necessary to have read book one to enjoy this story. Mila and Herschel are equally matched in their intense physical activities and level of acceptable risks, especially when not wanting to risk their heart. Then fate steps in and offers them a chance to have everything they never thought they could have. The instant physical attraction gives them a chance to explore and spend time together. What they discover is a deep connection that neither wants to walk away from.

This one was interesting because as much as the book was about Mila and Herschel's love story, there was still a continuation of Tessa and Arch and their wedding. I have to say the plan that they came up with for the wedding was a good one, a way to do justice Tessa's feelings and Arch's open life in the public. Loved how the family jumped in to help!
Mila and Herschel was sort of like the train that could. Started out slow, both smitten, each having issues, but once they really realized what they wanted, they were full steam ahead and thoroughly enjoying each other and facing their issues. It was nice to see them happy at the end and how Herschel was welcomed into the family just as much as Tessa.

I am beginning to think I might love the Davenport family as much as I love the Sullivan family and of course with Bella Andre’s writing, the story develops at just the right speed. Both Herschel and Mila were wounded souls having both had trauma in their lives, but they were both athletic, both very driven and both felt the chemistry they had, yet both were commitment averse. Loved how to they made it together, and loved how we were seeing more of the Davenport family. This was a great romance story to read. Oh, I would love to live in Carmel By The Sea! A wonderful background for this family.

Hershe and Mila fit together well as a couple. They both have had accidents which have changed their lives. I tried to take my time reading this, but ended up finishing it as quickly as I started it.
The Davenports are very family orientated (like the Sullivans) where family is the centre of their lives.
Really good start to summer read! If you like the Sullivans, you will definitely like the Davenports!

The story line was great! Two professionals overcoming their fears and moving on with life, or in Herschel's case going back to what he loves. I was pleasantly surprised by the chemistry between them. The rest of the Davenports just adds to it. I was a little perturbed by his insistance to stay away from relationships, but I also kind of understood. Overall, the book was great! I literally couldn't put it down! Oh and I want to move to Caramel by the Sea too.

I love Mila and being introduced to Hersch, I quickly fell in love with his character too. Both of them were beautifully broken and only opening up to the other was able to get past their fears. Mila is one of a kind and so fearlessly ferocious and Herschel is just utterly swoonworthy! Completely recommend this book to anyone who needs a great romance read!

Never a disappointment. As usual you gather us in the family dynamics of love, laughter and wishing everyone could have this type of family. I love this story of astronaut meets the surfer girl champion who both overcome their fears. A most read. I recommend any book written by these two authors is a most. I would give them 10 stars if they had it.

I am loving this new series from Bella Andre. After what was a much needed rest, she is coming out of the gate with her great stories that draw people in.
Mila loves the ocean even after her accident. Herschel doesn't want anything to do with it after almost drowning. The sparks between these two fly off the page. Mila is determined to get him back in the water but once he is back in the water will the romance fail?
