This is a study guide for Colossians and Philemon. I used it as a discussion guide to prepare weekly Sunday School lessons, but it is more intended for personal study than group study.

The book spends more time walking readers through a structured approach for how to analyze Scripture than it does engaging with the texts of these two Pauline letters. By the final chapter (on Philemon), the author does not even bother to throw in discussion questions; she encourages the readers to come up with their own questions using the process described in the preceding chapters.

It is an odd book, not particularly useful for what I needed it for. It is part of the Living Word Bible Study series, which is a series I will be studiously avoiding in the future.

Wonderful deep dive into Colossians. The questions need to be edited for clarity as the syntax and grammar were often very odd.

I wanted more than this study gave me. I like the format and it was easy to go through but I felt like every day I needed to go find more to fulfill the desire I had to understand.

This was an excellent study. If you're looking for a Bible study book/curriculum, I highly recommend this one. As always there are a handful of questions in which you're not sure what she's getting at. However, on the whole, this is by far one of the best Bible study books I've gone through. I really was able to dig into the text and I learned a TON. It is also Nielson's goal that we learn to study the Bible without such books and as such gives you a skeleton to follow for the book of Philemon. Highly, highly recommend!

Although I am still working my way through this Bible study I wanted to comment for a moment on its worth. The author has introduced several excellent Bible studies from various books of the Bible. This one does not disappoint but/and it DOES make one think.

I really love these studies. She does a great job of making it meaty, yet not too lengthy or long winded.
