The world has ended. Zombies. Who would have guessed? I thought I had it all figured out. Holed up in a castle with my vampire mate, and a group of humans, werewolves, and other witches, we thought we were safe. But when it comes to zombie apocalypses, no one is ever truly safe. I got bitten. In an attempt to save me, the witches cast a spell on me, but it had unforeseen consequences. Now I have to share my body and mind with a self-aware zombie who is constantly hungry and doesn’t know anything about the world. It’s like taking care of a cranky toddler on steroids who could murder the whole room on a whim. As if a crazy mess of supernatural beings tied together by mate bonds and magic wasn’t bad enough, there is something dark looming in the shadows. Another disaster waiting to strike and add to the world's suffering. Can we overcome our differences and stop this new threat before it’s too late?
Of Magic and Zombies is a crazy paranormal post-apocalyptic romance. Imagine the movies Warm Bodies and The Host having a baby, with magic. Set in a world similar to The Walking Dead. Perfect for the fans of all three. Includes scenes fit for a mature audience (violence and graphic sex). HEA guaranteed.
Anna Svoboda is a stay at home mom and a part-time programmer. When she isn’t writing, working, or taking care of her family, she usually hides from the outside world with a book in her hand.
Author of various romance novels, her stories center around strong female heroes and realistic relationships. She loves building her own complex worlds and listens to her characters’ opinions while writing. Then she puts them through unimaginable torment for messing up with her plot.
I would like to thank Author Anna Svoboda for giving me an ARC of this book in exchange for a review!
What a wild ride this was!! This book truly has a little something for everybody: supernatural world, apocalyptic situation, fated mates, dual-timelines, and even some intermittent spice!
I found the main characters to be so lovable! It’s not often that a book actually makes me laugh out loud but I found that Valentina’s character made me chuckle several times.
The plot twist in this book was so juicy and unexpected, I couldn’t put the book down. And I’m absolutely going to be thinking about the epilogue for the next several days 😌
Overall this was such a fun read! Perfect for spooky month!
This book is beyond unique. It is so fun, so full of drama, and the sarcasm and banter is hilarious. There's been plenty of versions of zombie apocalypses and we know what happens to humans, but this shows the impacts on supernatural creatures too. There's vampires, witches and werewolves all under the same threat from zombies, trying to avoid being infected, and having to work together with humans to stay alive and safe. With enemy to lover romance, fated mates, witches spells, a surprising love triangle, loyal friends and some serious spice, this is a fantastic and original paranormal romance that had me hooked. It is an exciting standalone read with intriguing plot twists and a HEA.
This book was great. The characters are thought out and easy to relate to. They are snarky and witty with fun personalities and even funnier comebacks. It was a fresh take on the usual base story of an apocalypse. I found myself up very late losing track of time reading trying to find out what happened next.
So good! A book that pleasantly surprised me, both with the thought of Anna Svoboda how these supernaturals could brave this world and how she portrays the characters. The book has a nice flow, nothing rushed and no boring paragraphs. It is an amazing story with unique characters and a different than usual take on the apocalypse. Because I personally hate flashbacks the narrating of the past was absolutely great, it brought some lightness in the hopelessness with Valentina's comments. And the intricacy of the characters absolutely brilliant. I didn't like Valentina but I also couldn't dislike her completely, same with Hans (by the way, I also loved how Anna used their respective languages when the characters were aggravated). My favourite person was Jinx, such a sweetheart!
Fun zombie book. Light hearted and not dark considering it’s a zombie book.
FMC is divided into two halves after the witch died and the zombie takes over. Two people share the same body.
Engaging book for the first half; second half dragged on and on and took me forever to get through. Ending wasn’t a surprise but still enjoyable to read. I do wish the finale was longer and that last 1/3 be cut some but that’s just me.
Definitely spicey but not overly so and not terribly detailed drawn out scenes. I’m bad at rating spice but maybe a 3.5 out of 5. The scenes almost entirely are flashbacks.
I received an advanced copy of this book and this is my honest (albeit it very late, because I suck and committed to too many ARCs) review.
This book is really cute and I really liked it. I liked that the book starts with a dear diary entry. I like that Valentina's teachings were stories. A sentient zombie is definitely not common in stories. And I, too, didn't like Edgar, it is a stupid name.
I also like that it's a meta enemies to lovers to lover's lovers? Maybe? Who knows. But definitely a good zombie read.
Cannot recommend this enough , What happens to the Supernaturals when humanity is decimated by the Zombie virus , read this tale of bravery , determination and a whole lot of confusion for our heroine and find out . Strap yourself in for a wild ride through the apocalypse . I'd give it more stars if I could .
Alright, I’m the first to admit that I can’t stand zombie stuff. It’s just gotten too mainstream these days and it gets old. But, Anna wrote a book about them so I had to give it a try for the sake that I love her books so much. And it did not disappoint! It was a unique storyline and I loved the conflict amongst the main characters. So so amusing!
Anna is one of my favorite authors and this book does not disappoint. It’s not just another zombie book. It’s so much more than that. It’s so much better. I love the wit I love the humor and I love Jinx!
This book wasn’t something I usually read, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. The characters were relatable and the plot was engaging. The twists were unpredictable and had me gasping! Another great book by a great author!
not my typical read but it was def worth it, characters were amazing, i laughed so much reading this book i also cried at the end but it was totally worth it. love the little bit of spice she added to bring the whole book together.
The premise was interesting but I wasn’t a big fan of the format. I understand what the author was trying to achieve but because of the way the story was told I don’t feel I connected with the characters much.
A confusing, funny and interesting mix of people coming together in a zombie apocalypse. While one of them has also become a zombie. Sort of.
This felt both fast-paced but also not. Though a lot is happening during a short period of time. We are also exploring some of the past and it feels at times that we are not really going anywhere. Only to move and a slew of things happening at once.
This story has more drama than action, and through it is a funny ride to read I do which for a second book where we can explore their new relationship more and how the society around them will react to their dynamic. How will other packs, witches and vampires react to their unusual relationship? What will happen to the world? Will the zombies evolve? Or will the humans manage to rise up and carve a new place in this world bent on destroying them? Will the gods come and intervene again?
There is so much to explore and this book almost felt like a preview of what has happened and an introduction to the world and the characters. But there is still so much we don’t know about our main cast and I would love to dive a little deeper.
