The Christmas movie has become an American tradition. Combining fascinating behind-the-scenes stories with insightful observations of favorite scenes, characters, and themes, American Movie Classics' Great Christmas Movies will delight readers of all generations for years to come.
This book doesn't try to cover every Christmas movie ever made, but they do cast a wide net. There are in depth reviews of 26 of the best, then a little something about some 100 more. The silents are included, then films right up to 1996. The paper is very good quality, heavy stock. Some of the photo's are full page and there is a color section(mostly full page posters). Some of the bonus material incorporated in the book: updated cast memories; 4 pages on classic TV; and promotional photo's from the studio's(highlight's are- W.C Fields, Edward G. Robinson as Santa; Elizabeth Montgomery as Ms. Claus; Jane Mansfield beside a Christmas tree; Mack Sennett's Bathing Beauties with presents). Besides normal Christmas classic movies, the offbeat and horror films are covered as well. The selection of movie stills are first rate, and all in all a fun book to browse. Not to be picky, but a revised edition should include the 2 D.W. Griffith 1909 silent films: A Trap for Santa, and, Cricket on the Hearth.
