Originally published in 1960 by the Literary Institute of Paris, Piotruś: Apocrypha tells the story of a man with a disability who sold himself at the market for the price of accommodation and meager food. At the center of this micro novel about the conditions of the displaced, Piotrus is desperately alive, despite his circumstances. He is radically dislocated, alienated from post WWII Tel Aviv’s languages, religions, and traditions. Yet even in his unreal reality, the narrator never expresses self-pity.
