This was my first real introduction to Irish poetry and what a good recommendation it proved to be. The title poem was inspired by a quote from Frank Harte "Those in power write the history, those who suffer write the songs" and this sums up the feel of the whole collection.
The poems are elemental, soft and sincere - powerful. My heritage is Irish and each poem touched something deep within my roots. This has been my favorite collection so far this year and I will seek out more of Moya Cannon's
Something sent to me from the Irish bookstore, and one I would never in a million years pick up on my own. They might be the most beautiful poems in the world, but they're not for me. Abandoned.
