I saw this house romance featured in Double Stuffed and I just had to read it, I was so curious, how could someone romance a house? WELL, it's actually wooden phantom hands (and other parts) that come out of the walls of the haunted house. Now you know.

It's really short, and we get PoVs from both the human and the house. The house was really funny in parts, and I wouldn't have minded if this was a bit longer.

As for the ending she should've stayed in the house, girl fuck your life and whatever you have to go back to, STAY AND LET THE HOUSE PLEASE YOU FOREVER!!!!.

call me Old Man Nebbercracker because i totally get it now!! i love griffith’s stories and surprisingly for a kinda weird not normal kind of book of theirs i didn’t hate it. definitely original and had me laughing my butt off especially when it came to the houses perspective. good read for spooky season and definitely seeing old man nebbercracker perspective now. a quick fun read but definitely check out their other work if this is the first thing you’ve seen by them. i’m truly a big fan of all their books even this one!!.

This was a fun, spooky and rather hot read. Kristie takes a vacation in a remote cabin in the woods, planning for some relaxation, when the house takes a liking to her. She's trapped inside for her vacation weekend, and yeah, the house sees to all her needs ;P I love that the house enjoyed their spicy times as much as she did and I hope we get some more creepy steamy stories set in this house ;D

This was something of a "you know what, let's try it" book. It is very different to this author's usual fare as they themselves have said. I recall reading something vaguely similar a long while ago but it followed along a parallel sort of premise although it was being controlled by another being rather than the anthropomorphic manifestation of the house itself that you have here. So basically it's odd, different and perfect for Halloween.

The House instantly takes a liking to Kristie and is intent on making sure she has a pleasurable stay with some scary, steamy action including a little dubcon and some spanks. Definitely imaginative!!

A house that comes alive and decides to pleasure you repeatedly… yup. I said it. And it was a fun ride! Not really any plot because it’s a short story that centers around the spice. It’s not a romance either. Just lots of heat with dub-con. Spice level: 4/5.

Read for the Monster Lover's Book Club for September 2024.

This short story apparently was inspired by House of Leaves. It's an erotic story about a woman who needs to get away from her life and rents a cabin for the weekend. Unfortunately, the cabin is inhabited by a lot of spirits that can only interact through the walls and furniture of the house. Technically this is dub/non con, but as with most of these kind of stories, our main gal loves every minute of it, even if she freaks out after each encounter.

There's a stylistic choice to try and differentiate the different spirits/personalities with different font styles. I sort of enjoyed this novella because I had my partner read the spirits' lines in various voices. But overall, it was silly in not a good way and the smut scenes were repetitive and boring.

The cover is a stock photo of a woman in black underwear in front of a stucco brick building. Does the job, at least it's not AI but yeah, gets the job done.
