DEVOURER'S ATTACK is another roarsome adventure filled with magic, dragons, and a world ending threat.
After having mentors in INFINITY'S SECRET, the kids are on their own with the entire world in their hands. It really pushes them to grow as individuals and as a team. I like team dynamics and seeing a new one be established is a lot of fun.
And then there are the petrifiers. They are a very effective villain as we saw what they did last book, get a first hand look this book (very unsettling!), and then have the promise of "a quest to counter them." It makes it so easy to want the kids to survive and thrive as these are an enemy I want defeated.
I really liked getting to explore more of Dragonia, the dragon's magical land on Earth now the realms have merged. There are places the first book mentions (the mirage, the deep water) that don't get much page time then but do now. It was really nice to get to see what they are and what terrors they hold.
While it is the second book of this series it's the seventh (eighth including short story A DRAGON REALM ADVENTURE) in the world. This means a lot of the groundworks for the magic system are already laid and instead the book can explore ideas like "what if a human sort of turned into a dragon?" (That was such a surprise and I look forward to seeing how it's resolved next book.)
The book ends on a big cliff hanger. The primary goal is achieved but then the showdown leads to a devastating sacrifice the final book has to address. I want it now!

I loved this next instalment of the Dragon Force series. These kids go on such massive adventures featuring their fears, their dragons, the biggest bad they’ve ever come across… but they’ve got friends, dragons and super suits! I loved seeing some familiar faces! Can’t wait for the next one.

Better than book two, the characters take some risks and have some real consequences. Much of the adventure is training montage and some uplifting bits as they overcome adversity and get cool new toys. Again, the ending implies a big upcoming battle but at least this book has fun boss battles in it and the team don't magically get on well together but actually have to learn to trust one another.
The narrator has a valiant attempt at a lot of different accents, attempting London, Chinese (speaking English), Argentina, Ireland, Scotland, English Royal, and.. what is that South African-ish? Even if they aren't all flawless they are consistent and mean that you know who is talking at all times, even if it's not identical to the way that Kevin Shen did them in the first series (Dragon Realm).

Best way to describe this book is that it is like a video game in which each chapter is a new level (quest), and after successfully triumphing, they reset for the next one after gaining something that will either A) help them with their next quest, or B) help them with their overall goal. Some of book one's novelty was worn off but overall I still enjoyed this one.

A great adventure for younger kids.
Contrast to the first book, which was heavy on was introduction and scene-setting, DEVOURER'S ATTACK punches ahead from the get-go. The Devourer looms, and with the other members of Dragon Force unaccounted for, it's up to Lance and his dragon Infinity, plus his sister Zoe and his friends Bea and Arthur to save the New World.
This was a really fun story with a cast of charming characters and epic battles. There is a lot of plan-making and ultimately you only meet the Devourer at the very end, but it was pacey enough to keep me engaged throughout. There's a great twist, the stakes are high for the last book, and Billy Chan and co. cameo, which is always a plus.

I really enjoyed this book and I may be being a bit picky but the only things I found wrong with this book was the magic it seems people can just keep using it and never tire or get something that forces them to not use it as much the only example of someone tiring in this entire 295 page book that I could find was Arthur using his magic and not being able to find the blood tree but Bea can use her powers to rearrange something that she has never seen before and she knows exactly what to do to it and by the looks of things adds a couple of stuff as well (hoods camouflage though I am probaly wrong about that) aren’t there any other members in dragon force that can do molecule magic or just her
It may seem like I hate this book but I don’t and loved it I just am very picky about stuff I still love this series and definitely will get eternity’s end
