The Devil's Lair

Rate this book
Massimo De Kysa.
The man who stole my first kiss.
And now my boss.

I learned early how life can turn on a dime.
That’s how it is when you grow up as a mafia princess.
One minute you’re rich, spoilt, and betrothed to the most revered man in the city—the next you're broke and selling your designer bags so you can eat.

But I’m not the kind of girl who gives up without a fight.
And when someone steals everything from me I’m not afraid to turn to the enemy for help.

He’s a De Kysa. I’m a Bamcorda.
Two rival families from the East Coast.
But it wasn’t always that way.
A year ago, he stole my first kiss and gave me a night to remember.

Since then, he’s changed.
Now he’s a powerful don with the presence of an approaching storm.

He agrees to help me hunt down who stole my inheritance.
But everything comes with a price, especially when you strike a deal with the devil.

Will trusting the enemy get me my life back, or will it cost me everything?

“You wouldn’t dare.”
“You should know by now, little monster, you should never dare me to do anything because I might just do it.”

I really, REALLY liked this book. I couldn't get into the first book and thought maybe I could just skip it and see how this one goes. I do it a lot with other series and said why not? And I am SO HAPPY that I did because I was enjoying it so much that all of a sudden I read 30% at lighting speed and didn't even know it. It was just a smooth and page turning start of the story. Starting off the bat with Bianca and Massimo banter really sicked me in. I couldn't get enough of them!

“So what do you say, little monster, do you dare?”
“Dare accepted.”

Teasers - portrait - The Devil's Lair

One of the things that I liked about this author's writing is how she wrote the female lead character. I LOVED that Bianca was fiesty and sassy and knew how to take care of herself. For someone who was considered spoiled, Mafia princess, she knew her sh*t. Girl can have a come-back at the tip of her tongue, can aim and shoot a gun like you were her target practice and defend herself by kicking you in the balls if you don't hear her "no is no" answer. Girl can brawl! I like that the author didn't make her a pansy damsel in distress. That you didn't see the hero coming to save her each time some a$$hole got fresh with her. She stood her ground and made sure that prick didn't mess with her again. And after all that, if she wants to have some window shopping retail therapy, by all means, have at it. Girl could use some pretty to look at after a day from hell. Snd speaking of the hero....

“I feel like it’s always been this way with us. Like there has always been something bigger drawing us together like magnets. A bond decided before we met. A promise. A destiny.”

I know that in mafia/alpha male storylines that he's supposed to grr and possesive and just really over the damn top. But it was refreshing to see how Massimo treated Bianca not only by giving her space, but by letting her work out her troubles. He knew she wanted to feel some sort of control over her life after everything she lost. It gave her a sense of power. He was there to watch her from afar but was in awe of her independence and how she was determined to pick herself up from the bottom of the barrel. Granted, he did have his moments of "I can't believe you did that", I loved this couple because of their banter and how easy going they were with each other.

“Yeah, that’s right. You and me, we’re meant to be together. We make sense. My world is f*cked up and dark, but you being in it makes it all worth it.”

OMG I LOVED this book. I feel so mad at myself because I haven't read Penny Dee before and I haven't read the first book within this series, because this is book 2. My OCD is shaking its fist at me and I am going to have to read The Devil's Den book 1 soon... The Devil's Lair is a fantastic Mafia romance and is Massimo and Bianca's complicated story, they were supposed to marry but events take place and they don't. Their families are rivals but she trusts Massimo especially when she loses everything....he is the one man she knows she can count on, and he doesn't let her down.
Bianca goes from having all she could desire, having a bratty attitude, and spending money recklessly to struggling to eat and make ends meet, scraping up any money she can and being humbled into asking for help. The reality check changes her she isn't the self centered mafia princess she once was. Bianca is a strong character, funny, feisty and sassy and I admire the way she tries to get her life back on track. Massimo gives Bianca a job as a bartender at his sexy club becoming her boss and they clash in what is sometimes the most hilarious way. I loved their banter, their chemistry and attraction... the sexual tension is electric. I LOVE Massimo he is the the epitome of a hot as all that is holy Alpha male, with strong family values. He can be brutal and cruel when needed, but also he is funny with Bianca and sweet. He watches Bianca and craves her and they are explosive. This is such a fascinating story that kept me engaged through-out, there is always something happening that you can't tear yourself away from...my interest was always peaked.
Bianca and Massimo's story is emotional and gripping with a twist that I never even guessed and I really enjoyed the suspense. I will certainly be reading/listening to more of Penny Dee's books because I loved this one. Brilliant story. 5 Stars. Brilliant- Cat W.

Continued to be obsessed with this series! I was so excited for this next installment of this series after really enjoying the first book, and Penny did NOT disappoint and had me just as hooked and obsessed with this book as the last one and has me on the edge of my seat and so excited for the next one! Bianca goes from Mafia princess to the complete opposite and someone after her with the death of her father and being shunned by the family because of her father’s actions. With nowhere else to turn, she reaches out to Massimo, who she’s always had a crush on, but she’s always been promised to his brother, but now he’s the head of the rival family and takes a chance on helping Bianca survive. There is a lot of twists and turns, and Massimo isn’t innocent, although not guilty like they might think, and in the end, I was floored and shocked at who was behind going after Bianca. This was an epically great read, and I can’t wait for the next one!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

This book has a lot of layers there are things in the working that did not make sense until it was revealed why. Bianca and Massimo’s story is full chemistry and tension and the drama the action and some history. Bianca wasn’t always the enemy’s daughter she once was Mafia princess having it all she could desire, having an attitude and spending money recklessly to struggling to make ends meet. All because her father made a mistake. Bianca and Massimo’s share something twelve months. Can these two overcome all wrong that was done?

I don't know , I think I needed a little bit more with this one. It wasn't bad at all it just didn't fulfill anything for me. Massimo and Bianca didn't scream, I'm so in love with each other. I enjoyed the first book more than this one.

Second book in the series, this is Massimo and Bianca’s story and it’s amazing! If you read the Devil’s Den, trust me you need to, you met Nico’s younger brother Massimo and the woman he was supposed to marry, but didn’t, Bianca. I truly suggest that you read The Devil’s Den because a lot of what happens in it carries over into The Devil’s Lair. It’s at least nice to be up to date on the cast of characters. Ok, enough lecturing. This book is so great! I loved the times we saw Massimo in Nico’s book but he’s so much better, fleshed out, in his own story. He’s funny and sweet and pretty ruthless but at the same time such a good guy who loves his family and will do anything to protect them. And then you have Bianca…spoiled former mafia princess whose claim to fame is spending a totally obscene amount of money on designer clothes and accessories. She’s vain and shallow and uncaring until she loses everything and that’s when the real Bianca emerges. This Bianca is feisty and funny. She’s described as sassy quite a few times and it definitely fits her. She finds out early in the book who her true friends are and that she’s a pretty pitiful bartender. But she also makes new and amazing friends and begins getting her life on track. This book is full of excitement and intrigue. It’s sexy and so humorous too…the police officer telling Massimo “Go with God, my friend” after putting up with Bianca’s crazy had me laughing out loud…yep, she’s sassy all right! Great job, Ms. Dee!

This second De Kysa mafia romance is every bit as good as the first book, The Devil’s Den. Massimo De Kysa is someone Bianca Bamcorda befriends at a low time in her life but twelve months later she truly knows what it means to be in a low and is desperate. She turns to Massimo, not someone you’d expect her to go to after everything that had happened, and asks for help after her entire fortune and assets have been stolen.

Massimo is instantly taken back twelve months to the time when he gave Bianca her first kiss and a time when he would have enjoyed giving her more firsts. He is so strong in denying himself the pleasure of being with her until she entices him to relax. Massimo is a tall, dark hunk of a man who is a charmer when he wants to be and lethal when the need arises.

The mystery of who exactly has Bianca’s money becomes quite convoluted and so intriguing. I loved how things progressed and just when you thought, yep—they’re onto things now—bam, another twist is added to this fabulous storyline.

Both lead characters are terrific and have amazing chemistry together. The balance of intimacy and mystery in the story is perfect with a heavy weight on the suspense element. The lead up to the actual intimacy is fantastic and I am not always a huge fan of extremely slow burn relationships so that’s saying something.

This fast-paced storyline had me hooked from the beginning and I couldn’t put it down. Great twists and turns make it exciting and unpredictable. Such an entertaining and enjoyable story that I gave no hesitation in recommending to everyone.

hooked me right in

This is the second book in the De Kysa Mafia series. I would encourage reading them in order, though you could get away with not reading the first if you really wanted. You will just miss some of the dynamics and history, though it doesn’t ruin the story. I think I enjoyed this story more than the first- tbh the ending of the first book was a little bit fantasy and took a bit away from it for me. This book had me pulled in and committed seeing how it played out from the beginning to end.

Bianca was in the first book as the betrothed wife to be of the De Kysa Don, only he rejected her for his true love. While drowning her sorrows, she is found by his younger brother, who gives her her first kiss and gets her home safely. It’s later they meet again when her world falls apart- her father is dead, her friends have abandoned her, her fortune has been stolen. At rock bottom, she turns to Massimo for help.

This was such a great read. The attraction these two have was fire. I loved that she was a perfect combination of innocent and tough, finding herself at rock bottom and looking back at her former self and wanting to be more. She may have once been a spoiled mafia princess, but now she was a fighter. He’s a man who stepped up as Don after his brother left, and was determined never to have a relational, but couldn’t avoid the pull toward Bianca. Of course, there’s a bunch of deception and twists and turns as the story progresses. Did not see it playing out the way it did, and I totally enjoyed the ride.

Oh my! I can't tell you how much I loved this book. Bianca and Massimo are from different mafia families. Bianca is father kidnaps Don Nico's wife and he pays for it in blood. Bianca's fathers men turn their backs on her, her "friends" abandon her, her accountant steals all her money and sells her house. She is broke, pawning everything she can get her hands on and living in a flea bitten hotel.
Massimo owns Club Lair...a tastetful...ahem...club where you can watch, for a price, certain activities. Bianca sucks it up and asks Massimo for a job. He gives her one as a bartender...it does not go well.
I laughed out loud at some parts, cried in others. Bianca is a strong, sassy woman but she is also hurt. She is one of the best female characters I have read in a while. Massimo...sigh..the man has it going on.
Penny Dee is an amazing author. She can make you love people who do nefarious things for a living! Please get this and read it. You won't be sorry I promise! It truly is one of the BEST books I have read this year!!!!
I received an ARC from the author for my honest review and this is it....I loved it!!!!

She goes thru alot of changes in her life, she gets a job at Massimo place, has to move in a dump of a room, she downsize her wardrobe, but thru it all it brings Massimo closerto her.Bianca wants to get even with who change her life but she is two minutes behind .Massimo and her run off to hide because it looks someone wants to kill her,Massimo has a secret to tell her but before he can she escape their hiding spot and meets up with Jules ,one of her ex friends, Bianca senses a change in Jules and she learns alot about her life,Massimo and Nico and even about her father done both to Jules but also to Nico's wife.Massimo and Bianca go thru more changes apart because she can't trust him but he doesn't give up because he loves her and he thinks she does too.But Massimo and Bianca are able to work thru their problems and comes clean about his secert he wanted tell her and they have very happy life! Bianca is heartbroken after finding out her father has been killed. On the same day of her father's funeral, everyone jumps ship like rats, leaving a sinking ship. Even her best friends leave her behind. After finding out that someone has stolen her money. She turns to the one person she didn't think she would turn to.

Massimo, who is head of De Kosta, is surprised when Bianca shows up asking for help. She is willing to do anything for his help, even work for him. With feeling being put on the back burner, which is a hard job to do for both Bianca and Massimo. They find that there is another player who wants Bianca's life and Massimo, who is also hiding a secret from Bianca.

This book was hard to put down. I loved Bianca and Massimo's story.

continuing the story of the De Kysa Mafia and it is brother Massimo's story

Thinking he is helping the only child of the mobster his brother has killed in the previous story (Part 1 The Devil's Den)Massimo withholds a big secret from Bianca when she comes to him for help.
Desperate, with no money no idea who has really taken it and her home literally sold from beneath her.
It is during this time of help that our Mafia Princess starts to see life from outside her spoilt life and money and protection provided by her father.
When you are at your worst in life, your real friends are the one 's that stick by you. Bianca is finding the only one she can count on is Massimo..... or is he?
Great follow up to Penny's journey into the Mafia world and the De Kysa Familia.
Loved it.

Massimo and Bianca's story is the chefs kiss to book one in this series. I am a Penny Dee fan and the De Kysa Mafia books are deliciously, dark and and spicy. Rival families, politics involved, but fate throws them together like strong magnets. You feel the tension between them from the beginning. With nowhere to turn Biana goes to the least likely person, Massimo to ask for his help. Massimo is unable to deny her and the heat between them. Oh boy!
This is a captivating story that will have the page turns at an all time high. This story was so good.

I loved the first book with Nico, so I couldn't wait to dive into his brother Massimo's story.

What a mafia hunk Massimo was, he took to being Don so well. I wasn't sure about Bianca's from book one but I loved her she went from Mafia princess to rock bottom and had to go to Massimo for help but she proved what a strong woman she was and didn't stay down for long.

Their romance was a slow burn, but when they did give into their chemistry, fireworks went off.

What a plot twist at the end that I did not see coming.

Loved this book from start to finish ❤️

She needs help , will he Hell her or will he fall deeply in love with her !

Massimo De Kysa Dom Boss lets his guard down when it comes to the one and only Blanca Bamcorda !! In the story he helps her to find her money that was stolen by her fathers account. Unknowing the real story she ask Massimo for help. Its a great book and a wonderful love story. Two enemies brought together by fate or by need. Absolutely loved this story and I think you will too.

I give it a 5 Stars review

Penny Dee never disappoints with her books. Massimo and Bianca are rivals, thanks to their family history. But when everything goes wrong, and Bianca turns to the only man she thinks she can trust to help her, they clash in the hottest of ways.

Warring families, shady friends, intrigue, secrets, disappointment, and a healthy amount of Penny Dee smexy time, all come together in an amazing story about the second De Kysa son and the daughter of his family's enemy.

Great read

The Devil's Lair is book 2 in the De Kysa Mafia series and it was full of up's and down's.. just when you think you think you have it.. out jumps another twist!

Massimo and Bianca share history and when everything falls apart she runs to the 1 man who she trusted all those years ago, even if he is now the enemy.

I personally loved this story, Penny kept me on the edge of my seat from the get go and I couldn't put the book down!

This series is my new obsession. Bianca and Massimo's story is full of exquisite tension, sultry heat, tantalizing twists, juicy drama, thrilling action and raw emotions. The attraction between these two is elemental and the chemistry electric. I simply adored Bianca's fierceness and Massimo's underlying sweetness. Together, they were pure perfection, that had me falling hard and fast, while taking me on one utterly consuming ride.

Massimo and Bianca! These two were freaking Epic!! We meet Massimo in Nico’s book but that introduction barely scratches the surface because this man is so much more. He ruthless and protective and caring and no matter how much he tries to avoid catching feelings they were there right under the surface and they took hold. Bianca the mafia princess and let me tell you she embodied all of this but when she loses everything we really and truly get to see the real Bianca shine and let me tell you the dark speaks to her and these two together are unstoppable. I loved the side characters I love how Bianca finds her true family this was such an amazing read!!

Fantastic

What I really love about this author is her story telling. The characters Bianca and Massimo were amazing and the story just flows. From the very beginning it grabs a hold you and it's an amazing ride.
If you haven't read this author before, give her books a try. Read all the tropes but if you enjoy a good mafia story for sure you will not be disappointed.

The Devil's Lair by Penny Dee is book Two in the De Kysa Mafia Series. This is the story of Massimo and Bianca. This is a interconnecting series so you should read the previous book before starting this one. Bianca has hit rock bottom and has fallen from her rich pedestal. When she needs help getting back on her feet she turns to Massimo who she trust and at one time was set up by the family to marry. Massimo hires her for one of his clubs as a bartender and the games begin between the two of them. Enjoyed.
