by Mira Lee The 10th Sea Witch unfolds her evil plan to ensnare the life of Sirius, the Prince of Unicorns. Meanwhile, in the human world, Misty-Rain struggles with her school work, tormented by happy memory fragments of her younger life among the Dokebis. Sirius grows more popular at the expense of the jealous and arrogant Hanbit, but physically begins to deteriorate as the Witch's deadly potions take effect. Desperate to save his life, the Unicorn Kingdom sends deadly Griffons to retrieve their Prince and the only thing standing in their way is the life of Misty-Rain.
Again Land of Silver Rain suffers either from awkward translation or a clunky script. Personally, I think it's a little of both. Also, the art doesn't seem as polished in this volume. Misty Rain is a truly odd protagonist in that she is incapable of arousing sympathy, despite being torn away from her home, having no family to speak of, and falling victim to Thornpricker's jealous pranks. Her daily behavior is more two-dimensionally self-absorbed than the daydreaming eccentricism that I think the manga-ka was aiming for. It's clear readers are supposed to be experiencing great surges of compassion as the only breaks from her disjointed, jerky behavior come in the form of swooping, tragic two-page soliloquoys expounding how abandoned she is.
The supernatural elements within the manga are pretty much the only thing of interest, as well as some funny moments (i.e., Sirius singing test answers aloud to a delighted class: "My buddy Tom lives in 10C/And his bro lives in 14D/The apartment's vacant up in 23E/I always hear dogs barking in 30B....").
