Suffice it to say, she lost herself in books, from fantasy to sci-fi to a suspenseful romance. Welcome to the insane conclusion of the darkness trilogy!

I had the lovely opportunity to work with Cassie as a beta and ARC reader for her final book, and let me tell you- it does not disappoint!!

We pick up directly after the second book- no spoilers here!

This last book dives deep into Jasce as a human and it was such a ride. We see him struggle, succeed, fail, love, lose, and more. I don’t think I’ve ever come across a more human character.
We also get to witness everything that the first and second books have been leading up to with closure on the lore and certain characters and not in a predictable way.

Cassie ensures that every moment is fresh, new, and exciting!

Ugh. This book has it all and I’m so proud of what Cassie created. She really made us fall for these characters. This world, the lore, just everything turned out great! I’ve never loved these characters more and they have cemented themselves as all-time favorites!

Y’all better not sleep on this book when it comes out!!!

Conquering the Darkness is the third book in Cassie Sanchez Darkness Trilogy. I had the utmost pleasure of being one of her Beta Readers.
IMO this book is her strongest yet…a superb conclusion to an amazing series

Picking up from where “Embracing the Darkness” ended Jasce Farone is now residing in the realm of Balten with his sister Jaida. Not only is he suffering from memory loss, he has been stripped of his magic. On top of that he is haunted daily by Kenz, the woman he was in love with…now he can’t even recall her.
Jasce was in a very, very dark place constantly struggling to adjust to his new life. To help him cope he started to rely on alcohol.

Jacse’s arc in this book is written so wonderfully and in such a way I could actually feel the pain of the inner battle he was going though to overcome his dependency of alcohol, now threatening to completely consume him.
His struggle to conquer this darkness made him a much stronger protagonist in my eyes. I know a book is good when it starts to creep into your heart and emotions. The emotions Cassie had poured into CTD…jeez they literally had me reeling.

Cassie carefully and brilliantly weaves plot, pace and characters while building a rich complex world and magic system that will delight fans of epic fantasy. The prose, pacing and length of CTD was absolutely perfect. She is an amazing storyteller who has a very descriptive writing style making her books extremely engrossing and dynamic. This was a wonderful piece of writing, Jasce is a super protagonist and the cast of characters are excellently written, impressive, strong and very relatable that leaves you wanting more.

I love everything about “Conquering the Darkness” which is a tremendous conclusion to an epic unmissable fantasy series full of vicious intrigue, ancient magic and is hugely entertaining. I highly recommend it.

Thank you Cassie for the ARC of Conquering the Darkness. This is my honest review.

‘Know your worth, Jasce Farone.’

Conquering the Darkness is a great conclusion to this action packed trilogy! This high stakes book gave me King Arthur mixed with X-Men vibes and as always I loved the morally grey that Cassie does so well.

Jasce is complex and grouchy. Flawed and determined. Messy and strong. I really liked how he is a realistic main character who is battling his demons and isn’t afraid to own his mistakes.

I particularly appreciated the nuance that the author wrote about battling addiction and mental health rep.

The found family is brilliant and straight up, I adored Nicolaus! His well timed quips and cheeky charm were everything. I loved the note his story is left on and I definitely wouldn’t be mad about a Prince Jazari book (hint hint nudge nudge 😉)

I really felt for my buddy, Caston in this book and liked seeing him go on his own journey. I loved seeing Kenz being the badass she was in book 1 and I also would’ve liked to see her show more vulnerability and sharing her scars with Jasce after what she went through in book 2.

Themes are: romantasy, morally grey, found family, unlikely allies, royal politics, magic, redemption

Faves are:

🗡️Snippy Jasce
🗡️Kord and Jasce brotherhood
🗡️Jaida and Kenz
🗡️Nicolaus Jazari. All day. Every day.
🗡️WYVERNS
🗡️Wily Vaulters
🗡️It’s time for Plan B

There were some parts I struggled to visualise and I’m honestly not sure if that’s my imagination needing a coffee jolt or if the scenery needed to be described more for me to see it clearly.

The pacing is sharp, the magic rich, the struggles believable and the wins so satisfying. Cassie sure knows how to write a great battle scene too!

This book is perfect for fans of fantasy, action and a salty anti hero with redemption.

Stand out line is:

‘You’ve captivated me from the first moment I saw you when you rescued me. And you’ve been saving me ever since—from a dungeon, from death, from myself.’

I had the honor of being a Beta Reader earlier this year.
⚔️
Review: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⚡️/🌶️
This is the final book of the trilogy.
This picks up a few months after the major cliffhanger of Embracing the Darkness. Jasce and his sister are now in Balten trying to recover from their ordeal and Jasce’s memory loss. Despite not remembering his friends or his past, he is thrust into a quest to recover the missing pieces of the Heart of Pandaren.

They are running out of time to stop Drexus’s quest for power.
⚔️
Although I felt the pacing of Embracing the Darkness (book 2) was a little slow, with the introduction of a whole cast of new characters and surrounding kingdoms, book 3 really pulls everything together. Through flashbacks of events from the first book, we follow Jasce’s journey and struggle to regain his memories and combat his physical pain from earlier battles.

The gang is all back together to try to outrun Drexus.
⚔️
This is an epic fantasy mixed with romance. There are quests, contents, magical monsters, elemental magic, wyverns, battles, and a little spice.

It’s a great story of overcoming addiction and a dark past, second chances, forgiveness, and accepting your responsibilities.
⚔️
‼️Trigger Warning‼️
Alcoholism:
Jasce’s pain causes him to deal with alcoholism. We see a little of it in book 2, but his addiction becomes a full battle that he has to overcome. We follow his battle and road to recovery in the beginning half of the book.
⚔️
I thoughtfully enjoyed this series. Book 3 wraps up the adventures well and is an amazing conclusion to Jasce’s story.

Although this is the ending of this trilogy, I believe there is more we will see from this amazing epic world that Cassie Sanchez has created.

What an absolutely amazing and perfect end to this trilogy!

This book picks up several months after the second one, we catch up with Jasce and see how he is adjusting to life off to battlefield and behind the forge with his sister Jaida.

When I tell you the torture was real, watching him fight his memories as he drank himself numb. And then the heartbreak of Kenz and Kord and the gang being back together in an awkward entanglement.

This book tied up everything so perfectly and gave us the closure we desperately needed for Jasce and for Kenz of course. Though I need a Nicholaus story 👀 hint hint... nudge nudge...

I think this series has the potential for spin offs that I am absolutely here for! The characters have more to tell, and maybe a cheeky cameo from Jasce but I feel he deserves his rest.

Another home run from Sanchez!

Conquering the Darkness met my expectations and brought closure on all accounts. Jasce's arc is especially complex and dynamic, and it was so, so good to see him battle his inner demons and find the light.
Even better, is seeing the lovable support group of friends and family believing in him and rooting for him the entire way. In this book especially, I could feel Sanchez's love for all of the side characters as well.

The lore, magic, mythical beasts, Heart of Pandaren pieces, and political intrigue were all handled expertly, offering a complex, yet easy to follow story line with great pacing.
Pair that with great brother-sister moments, husband-wife moments, and a tear-jerking, smile-wringing ending and epilogue and you've got yourself a compelling trilogy you'll never forget.

This story also delivered a syringe full of magical twists and surprises-- good ones! The battle sequences are also riveting and to the point.

By the end, I'd fallen head over heels for Jasce as he really gets his layers peeled back so we can see his true heart. The romance blossoms into something precious, with healing, redemption, found worthiness and family packed together, rendering this magical adult fantasy a story that will bring hope and healing to many.

As far as content goes:
Blood and gore descriptions: low
Spice: 2+ open door scenes that bear weight on character development
Language: a handful of d*mns and da**its, and one use of a**.

Overall, the Darkness trilogy is a tastefully written fantasy romance that is sure to entertain, delight, and shine light on a path toward healing and healthy relationships.

I'd seriously love to see the entire thing as a TV series someday.

ARC Review.

Conquering the darkness is a great finale to an epic trilogy.

This series has all the vibes of a dark world reminding me of the witcher and Game of Thrones.

Jasce is a complex character with a dark past and I really enjoyed watching him battle his demons.

I loved the tie in to the old gods and the romance came back with a touch of found family. There’s high stakes, a lot of mistakes and Cassie is definitely not afraid to kill off your darlings.

As always, Nicolaus Jazari was my favourite. He stole the show for me in the sequel and so already owned my heart for this book. I see a great story in his future and I really hope he gets his own series because he’s honestly just perfect. The sass is *chefs kiss*

Why this didn’t quite reach five stars for me was because some of the world was almost filtered for me. I would have loved a bit more description on where they were or what places looked like. Whilst we get a bit of this, I needed more to be able visualise better.

I also wanted to see more of Kenz’s journey. She went through a chunk in the last book and this book and was supportive of Jasce but I felt her individuality was undercut in this book. I would have loved to have seen her vulnerable and talking through the loss with Jasce a bit more.

Overall, Cassie has built a rich world with powerful magic. As a fantasy fan, this series has everything you want.

Action? Tick
Romance? Tick
Magic? Tick
Found family? Tick
High stakes? Tick
Morally grey characters? Tick

(Not to mention the array of magical creatures! Special shout out to the wyverns and the Snatchers because I LOVED them)

Solid 4 stars!

This is a fantastic ending to the trilogy! It takes you down the path of realizing a weakness in ones self, to remembering who you are, and who you want to be. To rediscovery of true love, and true family. It also takes you to a place where to save the ones you love, you must rediscover the darkness inside of you. It's a tale of recovery, redemption, and conquering the darkness you have to embrace. This is truly a phenomenal trilogy! Bravo Cassie Sanchez! Thank you for the amazing read!

Talk about an exciting end to an amazing trilogy! The character growth that Jasce went through to end up being the man he wanted to be gives hope to all that are fighting their own battles.

And who doesn't just love a witty sarcastic sidekick! Prince Jazari quickly became my favorite character with his quick and easy banter.

Super sad that the trilogy has come to an end, but can't wait to see where Cassie takes us next in her realm of fantasy!

After reading the first two and loving them, I was so excited to dive into this third and final book.
.
Jasce Farone will not only have to physically and strategically battle his greatest foe, but also his own internal demons ( which are aided by whiskey--another thing for him to conquer).
.
This was an adventure full of sword fights and wyverns as well the strength of bonds. It's a beautiful look at family, found family, love, and friendship. Also, it has a really fun magic system with just a wee sprinkle of science mixed in.
.
Oooh, and side characters! So many good side characters! The Alturian Prince was a personal favorite. I could read a whole book centered on him.

Conquering the Darkness is the explosive conclusion to this marvelous fantasy story of The Angel of Death, Jasce, and his companions as he tries to make up for his past atrocities and erase the man, Drexus, responsible for all the pain in his and his friends’ lives.

I had been looking for a fantasy series that offered up a little something different. On IG, I luckily spotted Cassie Sanchez and her book, Chasing the Darkness, the first in the series. I think Sanchez definitely delivered what I was looking for with MC Jasce and a fantastic cast of supporting characters.

Also, the Nicolaus Jazari character was a favorite of mine. He’s charming and a scamp in the most alluring way. I enjoyed it when he “poked the bear” (Jasce). He was spot-on with his timing and his ribbing. I REALLY need a book with him in it soon…K? But one without losing his allure when he goes chasing after tail LOL.

I will say that my own tail was clenched while reading this story. There’s so much heartbreak and action that I needed a hot, relaxing bath after finishing it. Jasce has so many demons he’s trying to fight, including fighting the family disease (alcoholism). He’s also trying to live without his magic (hopefully temporarily) and his fully functioning body while trying to find and destroy Drexus, the man who kidnapped his sister, killed his mother, and made Jasce into the Grim Reaper of assassins by torturous means. Jasce is responsible for so many lives and he’s tortured by every loss. Luckily, Kenz and her brother Kord are there when he needs support. Kenz is a tough-arse female lead, even though Jasce tries to protect her all the time, he realizes she can take care of herself, as well as others. I like my Xena-type characters and Kenz is just that.
Oh… WYVERNS!! There’s WYVERNS!!! Give me Wyverns any day of the week. Spero is precious and I need one of my own. Haha.

The character growth across these 3 books is 🔥. Seeing Jasce progression from villain to hero to broken man to a whole man was such an exhilarating ride. This problems weren't magically solved and he often times had to learn the same lesson over and over again before it sunk in. His emotional journey felt authentic and reflected ongoing everyday struggles. (Let me just say that I loved that the prospective is from a male warrior's POV. Don't get me wrong I love that stories that feature BA female warriors but there are so many of those stories now so this POV was a nice switch up.)

*may contain Spoilers

I wish we would have got Kenz's independent personality more. She was her own character in the first two books but in this one you only see her in relation to Jasce which I feel undercuts her character development. I guess I wanted to see her struggle over leaving Jasce to go to Balton. She didn't really fight for him which seemed out of character for her. I also wish I would have seen her struggle with her losses and Jasce 's problems. I was glad that she was supportive of him but I felt that her was some turmoil underneath her surface that was never really addressed.

The last 40 pages or was happened really fast. After the battle was over it was like someone hit fast forward and was hurrying me to the ending so I could leave. But I'm go happy and relieved that everything works out at the end.

*Spoilers end

Seriously, can't recommend this book enough.

The 3rd book was the best one in my humble opinion.
The first book was good but you could feel that it's a debut novel.., the second one was very good but the third one was excellent. I feel the writer now has a good grip on her writting style and story flow.

The tittle of this book is amazing considering what is inside.I loved the way Jasce fights through this book. He fights his enemy obliviously, but mostly himself and all his darkness. The author managed to describe fighting addiction the way I imagine it would be without making it too heavy. This book has a great balance between inner thoughts, action, fighting, suspense, romance and friendship.
I'm glad that everyone has their HEA.
I will pick up Cassie Sanchez next story for sure!

What a finale! I’ve loved every minute of The Darkness trilogy and I’m gutted to be saying goodbye to these multifaceted characters, but Sanchez does a fantastic job with this final installment. There’s the perfect amount of suspense throughout and it was really interesting to see things through Jasce’s eyes when he is without his memories. This created some really entertaining conflict that made me want to keep reading.

Although, Jasce has developed massively since the start of the trilogy he still has many demons to fight at the start of this book. It was interesting to watch him battle them time and time again, and really come to grips with who he wants to be.

I’ve loved discovering Sanchez’s talent as an author and seeing their writing develop throughout the trilogy, and I can’t wait to see what they have lined up in the future.

What an amazing series. From the very beginning I have loved the complexities of the main character, his darkness and his battle with it (they were aptly named books). This theme continued in conquering the darkness and it was wonderful to see what new challenges were thrown at Jasce. Highly recommend!

The third and final book in the darkness series did not disappoint me in any way. It picks up where the second book left off and just sprints towards an amazing and epic conclusion.

We get fantastic character and plot development. I was never bored or confused and the story pulled me along at a great pace. Jace is an amazing and complicated character and his story is one of my favorites I've read. Ever. The side characters have main character vibes and you definitely have emotional relationships with them. The ending was well done and left nothing out.

I highly recommend this book and this series. Absolutely fantastic!!

This is a favorite. My heart just broke for Jasce. I loved all the characters and hated the bad guy. The battles within were so heartbreaking. It was a Fantastic Trilogy.
I picked up book 1 and 2 at Renaissance Festival when I fell in love with a poster of the Angel of Death. I enjoyed meeting Cassie she was a joy. She took time to sign my book and take a picture. Thank You. Cassie you are a Blessing. I look forward to reading more of your books. No Spoilers from me just pick up the books you will have no regrets.

A very satisfying conclusion to this trilogy - or is it a conclusion? Because I feel there might still be some loose ends - e.g. the worry about Caston.

I would not mind another book about Nicolaus either - he is my favourite character! Do you hear me Cassie?

I had the pleasure of being and arc reader for this third book in the Darkness Trilogy. What a great end to this series.

This book continues the story of Jasce Farone former assassin and spectral. We follow Jasce on his quest to conquer the darkness the resides inside him.

Jasce in this book is having quite the identity crisis not only did he have his magic removed but with it he lost his memories. In this book Jasce is on a quest to get his magic back by finding and using the Empower Stone and with that he hopes his memories. But in the beginning of the book he wants his power back for the wrong reasons, revenge against his former commander being one of them.

Major themes/tropes that are found throughout this book are quests, revenge, love triangle (kinda….Jasce is confused), past regrets, mental health/addiction, found family, an interesting magic system, emotional trauma, and Fiancé to friends to lovers again.

If you read adult fantasy romance books add this trilogy to your TBR.

I don't normally write my thoughts down about a book until the end, but I was so mad about certain situations that cropped up that I had to get my thoughts down. I am just over the 50% mark right now. I am not loving how everyone is treating Jace and instead of taking responsibility for their own choices and actions, they simply allow Jace to carry the blame and mental aguish for everything.

Jace has turned to alcohol to deal with everything, both physical pain as well as mental and emotional turmoil. Unfortunately, he is pre-disposed to alcoholism, as both his father and uncle are alcoholics, and he has to now deal with recovery and control. While Jace eventually confronts his alcoholism, I don’t think any of the people he is surrounded by are good choices for support. Unfortunately, Jace internalizes and blames himself for everything that has happened to him and everything he has done while not holding anyone else responsibly for their choices and actions. Yes, there are things that he needs to confront and

We find out that Jace’s father felt regret for what he did and tried to get Jace back after he was taken. What he is regretting, in case you have forgotten from the previous books, is that he sold out his magical wife and children, which led to her murder and the enslavement, torture and experimentation of his children (which, in my opinion is equivalent of selling out your Jewish wife and children to the Nazis). Jace now apparently feels terrible for killing his father since his father had a change of heart after the fact. I’m sorry!? This man knowingly sold his wife out to be brutally murdered by magic hunters, I feel like Jace is completely justified in his original feelings of anger and betrayal towards his father.

I also now officially hate the relationship between Jace and Kenz and hope they do not end up together in the end. Kenz continues to keep secrets from him and betray him “for his own good”. The baby situation from book two is, in my opinion, completely her fault and Jace after regaining his memories should have been hurt and angry at her for it. She knew she was pregnant, did not tell him but told pretty much everyone else, and then preceded to put herself in situations that would endanger the baby. From her actions, it appeared to me that she either did not want to have the baby and was putting herself in these situations to get rid of it, or her pride was more important than the life of her unborn child. All of the dangerous situations she was put in was by her own choice. She chose to compete in a physically dangerous competition for nothing more than her pride, she insisted on going on the mission to track down the Snatchers even when Jace asked her to stay behind, and she insisted on going on the mission that eventually led to her miscarriage. I feel terrible for Jace but I’m not sure how I am supposed to have much sympathy for her. Also, they have not yet brought it up yet, but they had a discussion about removing magic after he expressed his concerns for how the procedures could be weaponized and she promised she would never allow someone to remove his magic. Good job upholding that promise. While they are currently rekindling their relationship, I really hope they don’t end up with each other in the end.

Kord is also pissing me off like no other. This quote in particular, made we want to punch him in the face. “I lost my best friend and a brother. Kenz lost a husband. My son lost his uncle. Which hurts more? Maybe you could think of someone else.” Excuse me!?! You kept your wife, son, and sister. Yes, you lost vision in one eye but you are physically mobile without constant chronic pain. You did not lose the support of everyone you knew. You were not exiled. You did not have your memories wiped and your magic stolen. Oh, and you also just got a promotion. But yah Jace, Kord is suffering and you should think of his pain. And to top it all off Kord is the reason Jace lost his memories, lost his magic, and is permanently crippled. He allowed his friend to be banished (in fairness the queen banished Jace and his sister) without first making sure he was healed enough to go. Kord even states that if Jace’s injures were not left unhealed for so long then they wouldn’t have been permanent. He was also the one who performed the magic stealing procedure because Jace was going insane. This completely discounts the fact that Jace was being mentally attacked by Queen Siryn for weeks. Maybe wake him up and check if his deteriorated state is actually due to his dueling magics and not because of the mental attacks that tore down his shield before permanently removing his magic against his will.

The writing and story is still really good and I can barley put the book down. I’m just currently upset for Jace.

100%
I'm still not sold on Jace and Kenz. The fact that she did not uphold her promise was never even mentioned. I wish Jace's growth would have gone a bit further and allowed him to develop some self-worth.

However, the book overall was great. The pacing was wonderful and the magic system and world building were still engaging.

The Darkness Trilogy by author Cassie Sanchez is now complete with the release of “Conquering the Darkness”. I honestly do not have the words to adequately give the final story and the author the justice they deserve. I have never read a character more entitled to an HEA than Jasce Farone. The author put him through the ringer, and he overcame insurmountable odds both personal and professional throughout this series.

Not being much of a fantasy reader, I had no idea what to expect when I started this series. I’m so glad I got the courage to peek behind the masked man on the cover of “Chasing the Darkness” even though he scared the bejesus out of me. (Yup, there is a story there. Lol) Cassie Sanchez has single handedly turned me into a fantasy reader. At least of her work!

Now that she has me hooked, I need to know Flynt and Jaida’s story. I’m sensing a future enemies-to-lovers match with Caston. Please, I’m begging this creatively talented wielder of the word pen, give Prince Nicolaus a story. This stand out character had me in stitches throughout this tale with his antics and wit. How long did it take you to make that insane map of the world you created? Lastly, I want to ride the Wyvern. OK, maybe just sit on one as I’m not a fan of heights.

If you’re a fantasy lover (heck even if you’re not!) of cleverly crafted worlds filled with richly layered characters of substance that combine to make a magically entertaining feast for the reader, you NEED to read The Darkness Trilogy.

I received an E-ARC from the author, and this is my voluntarily given honest review.

What a wild journey I have been on with this trilogy. Although, I not the only one as there is Jasce, who had been on quite the journey as well. I was intrigued to see how he would maneuver as a human. Luckily, he does have his sister, Jaida. Who I love a lot. From the first moment I was introduced to her I instantly fell in love with her character. I really felt like Jaida got to shine in this book.

I did not realize just how much I loved Kenz and Jasce together until they were separated and reunited. Their relationship has been through a lot and tested.

For this group to battle Drexus as the final one, is very fitting. There is history with Drexus that needs to be resolved once and for all. I loved this final book in this trilogy, but I am sad that I have to say goodbye to everyone. Cassie hooked me with book one and keep me until the end! Before Fourth Wing, there was this trilogy.

Conquering the Darkness from within!

This final installment in The Darkness Trilogy definitely lives up to its title as Jasce must overcome his internal demons before facing his external battles. I thoroughly enjoyed the adult themes and emotional depth of this story. Heart wrenching in the best way.

The characters stayed with me long after the last page – especially Jasce, Kord (who is now in my book boyfriend pocket), Prince Jazari, and Kenz.

And I must say, Sanchez’s world building is incredible! The kingdoms, wyverns, politics, and well-developed character back stories weave into this amazing story tapestry.

Absolutely loved the twist at the ending and the ultimate HEA!

Mind the triggers for alcoholism and addiction.

Can’t wait to see what this author writes next!

A Satisfying Conclusion to a Trilogy: Conquering the Darkness
The final installment of this trilogy is both thrilling and gratifying. You will not be able to put it down! The characters, who are richly developed by the author, are easy to become attached to. It's bittersweet to say farewell to them at the end of the book. However, there could be room for spin-off books that explore the individual stories of characters like Nicolaus Jazari who was one of my favorites.

I was honored to be an arc reader for this book, and I absolutely loved it. The relationship between Jasce and Kenz and all the others just continues to grow. Jasce grows as a person. The twists and turns had me shocked. I cried more than a few times. The spice was amazing. The ending had me tearing up. Cassie is an incredible author and I highly recommend this trilogy

Nailed it. Amazing ending to the Darkness Trilogy! The last book in the trilogy was as exciting and tension-filled as the first two. I loved the way Cassie brought the characters and the story to a close. I can't wait to read whatever Cassie Sanchez writes next!

I have read all 3 books in The Darkness Trilogy. They are all fantastic.... and I definitely could not put Conquering the Darkness down! Great characters, exciting storyline, adventure, action, romance.... what more can you ask?

Fun adventure that takes you on a ride

Cassie has done a great job of making us care for her characters and the family of fighters as they battle true evil.
