Tabetha Waite is a small-town Missouri girl who grew up with big dreams of being a published author after her fourth-grade teacher said she liked reading her stories. She began her journey by putting pen to paper writing anything from fantasy to mystery, before graduating to an old Underwood typewriter. It wasn’t until she started high school that her grandmother introduced her to the classic, Gothic novels. As her love of romance grew to encompass Harlequins, it wasn’t until she read “Midnight Bride” by Kathleen Drymon that she developed a fascination for historical England. After discovering the allure of Jane Austen and the Bronte sisters, she was hooked!
It wasn’t until 30 years and 63 rejections later that her debut novel, “Why the Earl is After the Girl,” the first book in her Ways of Love series was picked up for publication by Etopia Press and released in July of 2016 to critical acclaim. Since then, she has become a hybrid author with books previously released with Soul Mate Publishing, WOLF Publishing, and Dragonblade, as well as transitioning into Indie. She has won several awards for her books and has been an Amazon bestseller.

A very enjoyable read. I loved how the couple came together - with the help from Mrs. Dove-Lyon, of course. A very nice and easy-going story. Liked reading this so much. 5☆

Lyon’s Den novella.

More a novella than anything else. I’ve got to say I was disappointed in the unrealised potential of this story.
It had so much going for it, but all we ended up with was more an outline, a cursory tale.
Let me see, Scottish Lord is persuaded by Mrs. Bessie Dove-Lyon to take a wife. Said intended is in an asylum due to machinations of wicked step brother and unfeeling stepmother. (See plenty to go on with!) The trip to beyond Glasgow via Gretna Green had some action, but again fell short.
There was little or no meat on the bones. The work didn’t live up to the title.
Disappointing because this story had real promise. It just felt rushed.

After her fathers death Beatrice found herself living in a private asylum thanks to her wicked step brother and his mother, her dowry gone. After weeks feeling her life was over Mrs Dove-Lyon frees her, and promises the chance of marriage. After spending much of her 37 years looking after her father Beatrice is pleased she may not end up a spinster, or locked up.

Rowan is a Scottish Lord and has a connection to Mrs Dove-Lyons late husband through his mother, and in the late colonels name Bessie manages Rowan into meeting and marrying Beatrice.

This book puzzled me for several reasons:
- How did Mrs Dove-Lyon know of Beatrice's incarceration, and why would she free her?
- Why would Rowan agree to marry a woman he's never met at the behest of the widow of a former colleague? A woman he hasn't met before?

Beatrice doesn't deserve her incarceration, but is very young, headstrong and naive for her age, and isn't the most likeable character.

Mrs. Dove-Lyon of the most notorious gambling den in London, is busy making another match through her match making service in Lyons Roar that will keep you captivated all the way through. Tabetha Waite has a writing style that I really enjoy, she's filled the story with a great cast of characters, sizzling passion, a story that is well-written, an enjoyable plot and great dialogue bring this read together perfectly.

I received a ARC copy from NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

Interesting Lyon’s Den story. Good characters and background on them. The connection between the two builds quite rapidly with no pushback from either one. A definite addition to add to your Lyon’s Den series.

Rescue and review

Rowan is a Scottish Laird who was friends with Mrs Bessie Lyon husband before he passed away.
Rowan is older and he surely should have been married by now but he didn’t after he lost the love of his life!
Beatrice has one hope to escape the asylum her wicked stepbrother had placed her in!
Rowan was her rescue it was marry or remain in the asylum!
As they journey to Gretna Green their chemistry is off the charts! You definitely don’t see them as an older couple!
Beatrice learns on the journey the fate of her friend Daria!
It almost broke her heart but Rowan wisdom in the situation was spot on! I love their banter and chemistry! Bravo

Good book. Once again, Mrs. Dove-Lyon brings together two people who need each other. Forty-nine-year-old Rowan has led a somewhat lonely life after losing the woman he loved many years earlier, but he isn't interested in risking his heart again. He's surprised to receive a letter from the widow of an old mentor, asking him to come to London. The last thing he expected was a request for him to marry a woman in desperate circumstances. He's wary but listens to what she has to say.

Beatrice spent most of her thirty-seven years taking care of her ailing father while doing her best to avoid her obnoxious stepmother and stepbrother. When her father dies, her stepbrother wastes no time sending Beatrice to a private asylum to get rid of her. She feels hopeless about her future until Mrs. Dove-Lyon offers her a way out - marriage to a stranger.

Bessie Dove-Lyon has incredible insight when it comes to finding the perfect mates for her customers. She somehow knew that Beatrice's plight would arouse Rowan's protectiveness and that her strength of will would stand up to his occasionally overbearing nature. I liked that both insisted on meeting before making a final decision. When they did, Beatrice's beauty and something in her eyes made Rowan believe they would suit, but the kiss he requested sealed the deal. Beatrice was also profoundly affected by it and thought their marriage wouldn't be terrible after all.

And so they set off on the trip to Scotland via Gretna Green. Their constant proximity over the long days of carriage travel gave them time to get to know each other. I loved how well they connected, finding it unexpectedly easy to talk to each other. Neither expected the growing attraction that made it increasingly difficult to keep their hand off each other. Rowan and Beatrice are wary of the speed of their growing feelings, uncertain if the other feels the same. They have some obstacles to overcome on their journey, including an unexpected encounter with Beatrice's nasty stepbrother, but they face them all with humor, teamwork, and passion. I loved the ending and the romantic way Rowan welcomed her to his home.

My only disappointment was that her stepbrother did not get the comeuppance he deserved. Hopefully, that will happen at some point in the future.

3 STARS, HISTORICAL ROMANCE, ASYLUMS

Tabetha Waite has given to the Lyon's Den Series, a well written love story even though the couple were matched by Bessie Dove Lyons. It is a wonderful exciting experience & remarkable love that is almost like love at first sight, but love at first trip with highly charged sexual tension & attraction between our couple.

Beatrice & Rowan find themselves both in lust & love as they travel to his home in the Lowlands in Scotland via Gretna green to marry. I love this part of the storyline & find it worthy of 5 STARS.

There is a BLURB provided & I only gave 3 STARS. I took 2 STARS away because to have Beatrice as such a passionate woman it seems illogical to me that a woman with passion like this would not have had her past with her age. Also her Father remarried to give her a new mother for guidance & she received none from this Lady. I find it very strange the same loving Father would not have made provisions in his will & informed her what those were, especially a Spinster that took care of her father to almost 40 years old especially in Regency or Victorian Times. Then, her friend she reached out to Beatrice can't be smart & A good judge of people & her own friend , I will not spoil it. However, regardless of anyone's intended life if they have a friend that who is trapped in an Asylum plus the the person acquires money they can always just arrange to have the friend freed even if they aren't going to be with them. The portrayal of Beatrice with almost 2 different personalities & at her age in this time period as I said just would not click for me.

However, just going on the storyline of Rowan & Beatrice put together by matchmaking, is all 100% pure reading pleasure. I enjoyed every word & read the entire book in one setting.

Lyon’s Roar by Tabitha Waite is another totally absurd tale about the matchmaking of Mrs. Bessie Dove-Lyon, notorious for both that and her gaming hell. Rowan Scott, the Laird of Garrison responded immediately when Mrs. Dove-Lyon contacted him. He had greatly admired her husband, but could not imagine what she wanted from him. It turns out she wants him to marry a woman he has never seen, Miss Beatrice Bookbinder. Miss Bookbinder had recently been released, at the behest of Mrs. Dove-Lyon, from an insane asylum. It seems her brother had tired of paying for her to stay there. Whatever he paid, it was too much as the conditions were horrendous. She was thirty-seven years old and hadn’t much to look forward to. Rowan, forty-nine, agreed to meet her and when he did he decided instantly that she was the one that could banish the hurt he had been carrying for so long.

Rowan was a strong, charismatic man who knew his own mind. Beatrice had been ill-treated by her stepmother and stepbrother, her father having only married for the betterment of her life, it had not turned out so well. The minute he died she was off to the asylum. She was a pleasant woman, abused beyond having expectations. The carriage ride to Scotland and her marriage turned out to be so much more than she had ever expected. There were some twists and turns and one thing that appears to be a dropped plot line since there are not sequels with the Lyon’s Den, but that didn’t lessen my enjoyment of this lively little book.

I was invited to read a free e-ARC of Lyon’s Roar by Dragonblade, through Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #Netgalley #Dragonblade #TabithaWaite #LyonsRoar

Not a bad romance. Rowan is asked by Bessie Dove-Lyons to marry Beatrice. Both are more mature protaganists. Beatrice had been placed in an asylum by her step brother., who Rowan suspects has embezzled her money. Beatrice only has one female friend who she hopes has gone to Paris to enter a convent. Beatrice agrees to marry Rowan and they start on a road trip to Gretna Green. Interestingly the author says they stop at Milton Kenes. I was surprised about this as perhaps the author was using a contemporary map and isn't aware that the greater part of Milton Keynes was built in the 1960s. Wikipedia tells me that the original settlement is called Milton Keynes Village to distance it from the modern City. "The village was originally known as Middeltone (11th century); then later as Middelton Kaynes or Caynes (13th century); Milton Keynes (15th century); and Milton alias Middelton Gaynes (17th century)"

There's a bit of insta passion and eventually having consumated the union they arrive at Gretna only to find a surprising couple before them....

I like that the couple are more mature, though at nearly 50 in those days I'm not sure that Rowan would have many more years left!

My first Tabetha Waite book, The Lyon's Roar, is part of the Lyon's Den group of books connected by the gaming hell owner and matchmaker Bessie Dove-Lyon. It was a novella at 103 pages and I found that I was wanting to know more about Rowan and Beatrice! It was unique to have characters in their 30's and 40's and they were more intriguing due to the wealth of background experience between the two. Watching the two discover each other on their trip to Scotland, dealing with obstacles, misunderstanding while trying to understand and resist the rapidly developing attraction all combined to create a sweet love story. Beatrice discovering the wonders of love was written realistically with accompanying feelings of jealousy and lingering insecurities. Rowan's need to protect causes quite a few tense moments as he learns to respect Beatrice. It was a quick road to falling in love.
After they arrive in Scotland, I wanted a few more chapters allowing us to see into their continuing relationship and how they navigate their new marriage. That is not a criticism , but a complement to Tabetha because I was invested characters and their unfolding story.
I enjoyed reading the Lyon's Roar (The Lyon's Den)!

Rowan Scott, Laird of Garrison, is a nine-and-forty-year-old ex-soldier and Beatrice Bookbinder is a seven-and-thirty-year-old spinster who has been committed to an asylum by her horrible stepbrother. They are brought together by Mrs. Bessie Dove-Lyon, the owner of a notorious gambling den and a renowned matchmaker, who offers them a chance to escape their unhappy situations. Rowan and Beatrice agree to a hasty marriage in Gretna Green, but their troubles are not over yet; they have to face the dangers of the road, the secrets of their pasts, and the doubts of their hearts.

The novella is full of obstacles for Rowan and Beatrice as they make their way to Scotland, but there was the thrill of getting to know one another and the building of passion between them and then add in her evil brother for a little tension. The author, Tabetha Waite, creates a vivid and captivating world of the Lyon’s Den, a place where anything can happen. The characters are well-developed and engaging, with a strong chemistry and a sweet romance. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own.

*I received a free ARC from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review*

This book needed to be longer (and that is not something I usually say about books). Because of the short length there wasn't really enough time to establish the growing relationship between Beatrice and Rowan - there is an instant attraction between the two, but most of the story seemed to focus more on their sexual relationship than allowing us as the reader to learn more about how they were connecting on a deeper level. Their growing attachment is mentioned, but I would have liked to have been more a part of that aspect of their love story. The part involving her stepbrother and friend was just kind of thrown in there with little warning and absolutely no resolution (I'm not sure if they will play a part in a later novel by this author). And I hated that Benjamin basically got away with everything he had done - I still don't get why Rowan paid off the man's debt rather than getting Beatrice what Benjamin had taken from her. This was an enjoyable read, but could have been better had it just been a little longer.

This book was another great addition to the Lyon's Den series. My only complaint is that it was not long enough! Beatrice and Rowan got the happy ending that they deserved but the villain was still out there being villainous when the book ended. I am hoping that Tabetha Waite will be writing a non-Lyon's Den book as a follow up.
The set up for this book was quite good. Beatrice had spent her young adulthood taking care of her ailing father. The moment he died, the rest of the family turned on Beatrice. Her evil stepbrother actually had her sent to a mental institution. Mrs. Dove-Lyons bought Beatrice's freedom in exchange for her agreement to marry an unknown gentleman. It sounded like a crazy plan, but Beatrice had absolutely nothing to left to lose. Of course, the man in question was rich, handsome and rather lonely. Definitely a win-win!
Due to its length, the plot was rather simple. However, it more than made up for it with witty dialog and plenty of steam. I really do hope that there is a follow up novel where we have the opportunity to see more of Rowan and Beatrice.

A quick read, which I thoroughly enjoyed, I really liked both Rowan & Beatrice they were both mature & I loved how their feelings grew & deepened on their journey across England. Lyon's Roar (The Lyon's Den) Tabetha Waite

Mrs. Dove-Lyon enjoys being a matchmaker, bring two individuals together he her forte. Beatrice was sent to an asylum by her steps brother after her father died because he wanted her money. A cruel and hateful person, not care for his steps sister, greed was all he could think of and money for his habits. Mrs. Dove-Lyon intercede and bought her away from her cruel step brother. Also writing to a Scottish Rowan Scott, Laird of Garrison, that had been in the Royal Army with her husband Colonel Lyon. Knowing he was unmarried and would be a good match with Beatrice Bookbinder. After meeting Beatrice, talking and kissing her, they were very pleased with each other, to say the least, both had a physical attraction between each other. During their journey to Doesn't home by way of Greta Green were they would be married over the anvil. It was an adventurous journey, injured horse, storms and many mile until they would get to Castle Garrison, they fell in love both physically and emotionally. Bessie Dove-Lyon Wins another successful match again.

An amazing story

This is one of my new favorites in the Lyon's Den series.

The hero is a widow, he is summoned to London from Scotland by Mrs Dove Lyon in order to marry a woman who needs to be saved but can he truly save her and give his heart away again?

The heroine was tossed into an asylum by her stepmother and step brother after her father dies, she's rescued by Mrs Dove Lyon with understanding she will be marrying a man who will protect her but will she be trading one jail for another?

Once they meet face to face sparks fly instantly, she feels safe, he feels something he hasn't felt in years. On the way to Scotland they not only find that they are drawn to each passionately but emotionally. He saved her and she helped him find himself again.

The thing I thoroughly enjoyed about this story was that both characters were mature, and despite him being a widow and experienced he was kind, patient, and understanding that she isn't. And he was willing to teach her so much about life.

We definitely need more mature characters in stories..

I definitely recommend this book..

I can't wait to read more from Tabetha

Title: Lyon’s Roar
Author: Tabetha Waite
Oh My fellow readers what a gem of read is this book! I have been swept away with the love match that has brewed between our main couple. Ugh! To find such romance as Rowan and Beatrice shared is simply pure. The purest romance that every woman should experience from a strong Scottish Laird, or any man at that.
I really loved this story. Never mind that it’s a novella, but the story reads like a novel. I enjoyed the suspense of wicked doers stretching their evil claws from London to England. Bringing unimaginable challenges to the plot twist. Then there’s the romance that offers up just the right amount of steam that had me blushing all over. These scenes will not only have you panting, but asking for more to read. I had a splendid time reading Rowan’s and Beatrice story. Mrs. Dove-Lyon did an excellent job of selecting these two to match. I am so looking forward to the next Lyon read. I give this book two snaps and a Daria… dear Daria what is it that you have planned? Until next time my fellow readers. Read on!

Charisma, Desperation, Romance
This is another Lyons Den story where Ms. Lady Dove Lyon comes through again for another fantastic matchmaking pleasurable story.
It is a short story that has everything I enjoy in a good read.
The beginning has Beatrice in a disturbing and sad situation but at that point I was intrigued with Beatrice's character and the challenges she is to face.
Meeting Rowan who is the epitome of a charming manly rescuer kept my attention with his lusty thoughts and tender kisses.
At first sight the fiery attraction between them takes us from a desperate situation into a whiz-bang romance ride to a happy ending with a couple of jaw-dropping surprises.
My first time reading this author and it was short, jumping right away into a splendid romance story that left me with a smile on my face.

Mrs. Dove-Lyon yet again spreads her magic in this latest addition to the Lyon's Den series. Rowan, a Scottish Lord, was friends with Mrs. Dove-Lyon's husband before his passing, and when she calls on him to come to London, he agrees, if nothing to at least honor his late friend's memory. Beatrice's stepbrother wants to get rid of her, and after losing her father, he sends her to an asylum. But then she is offered a choice by Mrs Dove-Lyon's, submit to her step brother's plans, or marry a complete stranger. Rowan lost the love of his life years ago and has no interest in marriage, but he concedes to his friend's widow's wishes. As the two travel back to Scotland, the chemistry between them is clear. But before these two can embark on a happy and peaceful future, there will be some hurdles to encounter along the way.
A delightful and charming addition to the series! I received a complimentary copy from Netgalley and Dragonblade Publishing and am voluntarily leaving my review.

When Mrs. Dove-Lyon’s plays a part in a story, you can expect the unexpected to happen and this story is just that. I loved Beatrice and the fact that she is a survivor even though at the present time it may not seem that way. The big Scot, Rowan could be every woman’s fantasy and he does not disappoint. The matchmaking may not always seem to be the best option but in the end a HEA is obtained. It’s an excellent story but wish it had been a little longer to have fully developed the storyline. I love stories that have an Epilogue, and this one does but it leads into the next match. Would loved to have had a look at their marriage after a year or so to see where they were, especially since they are of an older age than most of the Lyon stories. That being said, I loved the story and would highly recommend it.

Beatrice and Rowan's story was fun to read. I loved that it involved more mature characters - Rowan is 49, and Beatrice is 37, proving that love is for all ages. The Widow of Whitehall pairs these two after Beatrice is placed in a horrible asylum by her evil stepbrother. The Widow rescues Bea from the asylum and invites Rowan to London to ask him to marry Beatrice. He has long mourned the death of a woman to whom he was betrothed in his youth, and the Widow would like to see him settled down. Rowan and Bea meet, and the rest is magic.

I don't think I've read anything by Tabetha Waite before, but I will certainly look for other books by her.

As with all of the books in this series, this one is more novella in page count. There is a bit of insta-love, but sometimes that's just what you need. With everything going on around us, the world of fluffy romance is a good place to be.

Little tension in this story. The added part of her step-brother at the end wasn't appreciated. Unless you keep a look out for their story it was like a loose end.

I didn't feel a connection to this couple. He goes from being with Mrs. Dove-Lyon telling him about the match to the h, to refusing her then can't live without her. How did Mrs. Dove-Lyon learn about the h? It was mostly lust on both their parts than romance. Lovemaking outside and within marriage - heat level 5 out of 5.

No cheating, no cliffhanger for our couple, no romance, plenty of steam, epilogue 3 months in the future but didn't let us know if she became pregnant. Story ended at the 94% on my e-reader. Short novella that needed to be longer for character development. (ljb)

As soon as he could after her father died, Beatrice Bookbinder’s step-brother sent her to an asylum. Bessie Dove-Lyon decides that the lonely abused woman would be a perfect match for an old acquaintance of her husband. Rowan Scott, Laird Garrison, comes from Scotland to answer Mrs. Dove-Lyon’s summons. Rowan and Beatrice, a bit tentatively, to wed. The trip to Rowan’s home in Scotland, by way of Gretna Green, gives them the opportunity to get to know each other, to share secrets, the past, and their hopes. The chemistry between them grows stronger. Perhaps Bessie is right again. Lovely romance and engaging characters.

Ordinarily I don’t love an insta story, but when a book is 94 pages long, one can’t really expect a lengthy slow burn. (Bad pun ahead), so knowing that, I went into The Lyon’s Den unaware (this was my first book of the series).

Beginning a new series in the middle is always disconcerting, and going into such a well established series with so many titles and spin-offs was a bit intimidating and I do wish it had been a full length novel as there were a lot of parts that felt incomplete when the story was done and I finished this with more questions than answers.

It probably wasn’t the best title to start the series with, but I’m sure readers of the series will enjoy it.

An ongoing novella series by different authors. I have read a few and enjoy the quick read. This time the matchmaker Bessie from Lyon’s Den saves an unknown from a private asylum. Beatrice was committed there by her evil stepbrother. She is offered a way to escape by marrying a stranger.
Rowan receives a strange summons from his mentor widow, Bessie. He makes haste from Scotland to London only to find out she had matched him with Beatrice.
A bit on the unrealistic side, in my opinion but still a good read. Thank you NetGalley for this eARC. I am voluntarily posting an honest review after reading an Advance Reader Copy of this story. #NetGalley LyonsRoar

Rowan knew he was being suckered into a situation beyond his control, but when he comes to realize what Beatrice has been through, nothing and no one will hold him back from protecting the woman the Black Widow chose for him as his bride. Not wanting to marry, Rowan nevertheless takes the task of keeping Beatrice safe very seriously. I was disappointed in the outcome to some extent as I would have liked to see Beatrice's step-brother receive his just reward, but things didn't turn out that way. Nevertheless, this novel comes to a happy and sweet conclusion. I received a copy of this book as a gift through Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.

An entertaining read with two captivating characters and a steamy relationship that develops inside a marriage of convenience (my favorite trope!). I really felt for Beatrice; it’s really awful to think that many unwanted woman were not so lucky and spent their lives in those terrible places. Rowan is a great character, passionate and kind and honorable. I would have liked a longer story with a more developed plot, but I always like the books of this great interconnected world that centers around the Lyon’s Den.

This is a short read, but still has the emotional turmoil in a Lyon's Den book. Miss Beatrice Bookbinder was betrayed by her step-brother and placed in an asylum. Mrs. Dove-Lyon sends for Rowan Scott, Laird of Garrison, to take Beatrice as his wife. The first kiss is a positive outlook on their marriage, but Beatrice is not willing to let a man take control of her life again. This one moves pretty fast with the laird and the lady proving once again Mrs. Dove-Lyon made the right match.
