The Amish Gift of the Magi was a great play on the short story, The Gift of the Magi by O. Henry. The story was set at Christmas and was sweet with some dark undertones. The beliefs of the Amish shined through and the main characters of Clara and Willis worked well together even when there were secrets. I loved how Clara and Willis put each other first even in tough times. They were always supportive of the other and had others looking out for them.
There were multiple stories woven together with some loose ends but as often with a prequel it's to be expected. There was a good flow to the story and a lot of prayers sprinkled throughout. There was some closure and a few levels of happiness. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.
I rated this book 4.5 stars but rounded to 5 stars here and on other sites.
Clara and Willis are newlyweds and very much in love. They are also on a very tight budget, as are most newlyweds, so they agreed that they would not exchange Christmas gifts. Willis loves Clara so much that he would sacrifice his most prized possession to get her a special Christmas gift. Clara wanted to surprise Willis with a special Christmas gift, so she got a part-time job to earn extra money. The difficulties that they encounter would make some people give up, but they never lost their faith that things would work out.
I recommend The Amish Gift of the Magi. This sweet Amish Christmas story is a wonderful way to get into the Christmas spirit.

Amazing story of sacrifice by both characters to give each other a Christmas gift. You will not be disappointed in this Christmas story told with an Amish aspect.
This short, sweet story about love stronger than attachment to most precious and dear possessions. Story about love which is willing to make great sacrifices just to cherish other person and make her/his wish come true.
This is a sweet novel about a young couple who love each other very much. Their love is so strong they both, unbeknownst to each other, give up their prize prosesstions to get each other gifts. It's a heartwarming book for sure.
This was a fun twist on the traditional gift of the magi story. A little predictable in parts, but worth the read. A wonderful tale of love, faith, community, and surprise.
