Excellent Addition

I cannot get enough of this story, both John and Mavis. This book was nonstop action as both John and Mavis are fighting for their lives in separate battles. Alligators have entered the story and I can hardly wait for the next book since we were left with John just escaping, Mavis battling for her life, Martinez and Strickland in trouble. I sure hope the next book comes quickly. Always a pleasure to read Dirk Patton's books.

Turning into mini-cliffhangers!

Dirk is a great writer and I thoroughly enjoy reading his books. However....this series has turned into a collection of situational cliffhangers that never really gets anywhere. All great books have great endings....even though I hate a good story to end that's part of a great book!

The Loop

Glad to see that Dirk Patton has continued one of my favorite story line's. If you like action filled stories, I believe that there is no substitute for the V Plague from the beginning all the way to this book. Am looking forward to the next installment of the Chase family and friends.

Excellent Series Continues

I've read all of his books and am amazed that the series has not become stagnant. His ability to refresh the storyline is impressive. The characters are interesting and varied, the storyline exciting with an abundance of action. I see no reason for the series not to continue for many more volumes!

The Fight for Dominance Continues....

In a continuing struggle for possession of CONUS, the fight continues with no clear knowledge of who are credible enemies and who are true allies. Is the enemy of my enemy really a friend or even an ally. Who can you trust, if anyone? One misstep brings an ending that could well be fatal... and permanent.

Dirk has delivered again

No spoilers here!

I don’t know how many times Dirk can leave us with a cliffhanger that makes our hearts pound and our minds race wondering what’s going to happen to the characters we’ve known and loved for the last almost ten years. (Book 1 came out December 3, 2023.) But he’s done it again. If there were an award for most suspenseful cliffhanger endings, it would go to Dirk without question!

The action in this book is wonderful and I liked it better than Haven because it seemed to move the story along more, even if it still doesn’t move through time much. It’s engaging and I found myself wondering why John didn’t do a certain thing sooner than he did because I couldn’t imagine carrying around what he was carrying. (No spoilers!) And Mavis’s fight in the tunnels was epic! I knew what it was but it didn’t lessen the fear at all, and may have made it worse.

I’m not a fan of series novellas and much prefer a big, juicy series novel that has a lot of progression. This novella felt more like a novel in the story aspect. There were many things in the story that branched off and I feel like we’re starting to get a bigger overall view of what’s happening in the world besides just what John and Rachel are experiencing. Because there are so many branches that are being explored, the story is talking longer to cover them all. But the story still feels full because it’s covering so much, if that makes sense.

Even though it’s not a full length novel, I was satisfied when I finished reading it. The book reads easily and I finished it in one sitting. There was natural story progression and the ending felt natural. Well, as natural as Dirk’s heart-stopping cliffhanger endings can feel. It wasn’t just a ridiculous, out of nowhere ending to make the reader wonder what happened so they’ll buy the next novella. It’s Dirk’s signature and it’s believable in the story as well as the situation the characters are in. It might drive you to drinking, but it’s classic Dirk, and if you’ve read him this long, you love it as much as it drives you crazy!

If you’re here, you’re probably a fan. I can only tell you this: Dirk has delivered again and you won’t be disappointed. Several of the OG characters are back, John, Rachel, Martinez, Strickland, Mavis. Igor and Irina get a mention.

I highly recommend this book. It’s a great story and I think it’s leading to some really interesting things.
