A wave of power will raise me high or drag me to the depths.
No one is willing to help the half-sirens trapped at my former underwater home. Now that I’m almost free of my debts on land, their fate weighs on me. Then the answer swims into my lap.
My friend Levi Storm arrives home from his mysterious travels to the frigid coast of Greenland, revealing a long-buried secret from his past. The Sea Crown, an ancient relic that grants extraordinary magic, is hidden somewhere nearby. If I can find it, my fellow half-sirens will get the freedom they desperately crave. But we’re not the only ones hunting for the crown.
A faction from an arctic seamount I didn’t know exists wants the sea crown as badly as I do. But Levi’s need for it is more than simply determination. The hunters are hellbent on tracking our every move, and Levi’s personality shifts with every wave. Our quest plunges us into a watery abyss of danger as we chase the elusive power of the Sea Crown, fighting for a brighter future beneath the waves.
Emma Shelford feels that life is only complete with healthy doses of magic, history, and science. Since these aren't often found in the same place, she created her own worlds where they happily coexist. If you catch her in person, she will eagerly discuss Lord of the Rings ad nauseam, why the ancient Sumerians are so cool, and the important role of phytoplankton in the ocean.
Emma is the author of the Nautilus Legends (a marine biologist discovers that mythical sea creatures are real), the Musings of Merlin Series (Merlin is immortal, forever young, and living in the modern day), and the Breenan Series (a young woman follows a mysterious stranger into an enchanting Otherworld).
I was going to give this book a 5 star rating because it was a good read. But between that ending and the BS death from one character, it's a massive turn-off. That one character didn't need to die. Hurt, yes, and maybe unconscious would have sufficed. It's not right to introduce a character and important one at that, just to kill them off for no freaking reason. Why even allow him to be a part of the plot after being in stone for decades 🙄 it made no sense, and it felt like lazy writing. I did love everything else about the story. The new characters introduced especially. Lune, Hades, and Byssa are amazing. I love them so much! They have such a strong friendship and bond. Lune is so different from the secretive wishy washy character that she was in book 1. I'm so happy with her character growth. I thought this series was over, but that ending is not an end. And if that's the actual ending to the series, then it's extremely disappointing and does this series a disservice. For now, the book is a solid 4 stars. The first two books aren't my favorite, but it did get better over the last two.
