An inspirational book by self-made musical superstar, Russ, reminding you that it starts with YOU, to believe in yourself, and to get out of your own way.
Twenty-six-year-old rapper, songwriter, and producer Russ walks his own path, at his own pace. By doing so, he proved that he didn’t need a major label to surpass over a billion streams on Spotify/Apple Music, get on Forbes’ 2019 “30 Under 30,” make the Forbes‘ “30 Under 30 Cash Kings” at number 20 for most earned, sell out arenas across the U.S. and around the globe, and become one of the most popular and engaged rappers right now. His method was simple: love and believe in yourself absolutely and work hard no matter what. In this memoir, Russ inspires readers to walk to their individual rhythms and beat their biggest obstacles: themselves.
With chapters named after his most powerful and popular songs, It's All in Your Head will reflect on the lessons he’s learned from his career, family, and relationships. He’ll push readers to bet on themselves, take those leaps of faith, and recognize struggles as opportunities. With illustrations throughout consistent with the brand Russ has built and his fan base loves, It's All in Your Head will give readers an inside-look at the man and the motivation behind the music. A lover of books like The Alchemist and The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success, Russ delivers a short, potent, inspirational, raw, and honest book that gives readers a way to find self-belief and unlock their potential. Fans already rely on Russ as an inspiration of confidence; now, he is taking it to the next level with this book, which will contain lyrics from his music and visuals that reflect his inimitable style.
Russ utilizes his relentless passion and supreme confidence in his own talents to manifest his dreams and has been doing that since well before he was ever famous. In his first book, Russ gives readers the tools to do the same whether they want to succeed in music, in romance, or simply in life. In the vein of mega bestsellers like Unf*ck Yourself and The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck, Russ’s memoir levels with his readers: there are no shortcuts to success.
I have studied Russ for a bit and enjoy his optimism. IT'S ALL IN YOUR HEAD is a great book that has motivated me once again. Although motivation fades, I will be able to lock in some of his quotes and wisdom in my toolbox for trying times. . . . The audiobook is very different, as an artist I liked how Russ composed his book with his music. He read the book as if it were just an interview and it was a breeze to listen and experience it. . . . You can also read how some of his thoughts are aligned with other positive thinkers like Bob Proctor, Napoleon Hill, and Don Miguel Ruiz. ( I have seen that he has read some of their books ). All in all I grew more with IT'S ALL IN YOUR HEAD. S/n...I'm a big fan of Russ's music and you should check it out if you have not heard any yet.
I have to start off by saying that I am a major Russ STAN & my review will be bias, whether I loved the book or not. I also have to admit that this is the first self-help type book I’ve ever read. Overall, I’d say it was OK. I enjoyed that he incorporated quotes from his songs into the writing. It was a quick & easy read. Not a ton of content but a positive message. Good first book to kick start reading habits again. 🙂
Ive followed Russ as an artist for many years now and hes always been one of my favorites because unlike many other rappers or artists, he writes, produces and sings all of his own songs. Hes done everything hes ever been able to dream of, but that doesnt necessarily mean hes happy. Twenty-six-year-old Russ walks his own path, at his own pace. By doing so, he proved that he didn’t need a major label to surpass over a billion streams on Spotify/Apple Music, get on Forbes’ 2019 “30 Under 30,” and become one of the most popular and engaged rappers right now. His method was simple: love and believe in yourself absolutely and work hard no matter what. In this memoir, Russ inspires readers to walk to their individual rhythms and beat their biggest obstacles: themselves. Fear is the biggest thing that has always held me back from doing this, but as ive gone through college and gotten older, ive begun to realize that it isnt the outside expectations that force you to do things, its you feeling obligated to change because of the way people look at you. That mindset needs to change into a place where what you do and why you do it comes from passion within yourself to do what you love.
When I pursue any type of reading in this basic genre (book, article, blog .. whatever), I'm seeking to be taken to two places:
1) Where I can absorb 1-2 ideas or vibes that speak to me in TOTAL. Because that's all I can mull and internalize.
2) To be "entertained". Which in this genre usually means less is more in terms of content, etc.
I definitely wasn't very certain early on if this book would be of interest, but it delivered on both points #1 and #2 above. I read it in a few days, then went back and read one chapter a day. It's sticking around with me ...
I actually purchased it walking through a Barnes & Noble .. it was in some odd section ("employee recommendations" or something) and I saw the yellow color and my name (I am named Russ) out of the corner of my eye. Long story short, pleased it came into my life and I (drum roll) give it the rare five-star rating here.
In many ways, this book was the kick in the ass I needed to get back to writing the next book I want to publish (after 80+ rejections from literary agents on my first novel, this second one has felt like a bit of a drudgery to write). BUT, I know I'm a good writer. I know I have what it takes to make it. And Russ (last name only, what a badass) reminded me that our dreams don't work unless WE do. We have to eat, sleep, breathe, and -- most importantly -- believe in our dreams before anyone else even has a reason to. I'm grateful I stumbled upon this little inspirational book in Barnes and Noble yesterday :)
The one thing I will say is that this guy clearly thinks very highly of himself. It's great that he has so much confidence, but chill, dude. I didn't even know who you were prior to picking this up.
Honestly, the only reason I gave this rating is because I resonate with a lot of the things talked about in this book. I watched the interview Russ had with Jay Shetty, and discovered that he's got a book, so I said why not?
The ideas, beliefs and experiences shared in this book are things I believe in myself. It's hard, though, to find someone, stumble upon someone, who believe in certain things you believe in, especially when the people around you claim that such things are mere fallacies😇
It doesn't hurt though to go on your own way. I can see myself rereading this book over and over again. The man is such an inspiration!
Did I cringe hearing his shitty music in between chapters? You know it.
Do I think he’s a self-centered fuckboy and probably not the best role model? Perhaps.
But.
Does this short book portray an optimistic outlook on life and seek to uplift a community? Absolutely.
I was getting ready to hate on it, but I surprisingly finished the audiobook feeling slightly elated. There was nothing I have never heard before from any other generic self-help text, but there was also nothing offensive or blatantly stupid in here either.
So yeah, a sweet little pick-me-up from one of the worst rappers to make it big in the past decade.
blinkist version - The book does not contain anything I did not see already somewhere else. The same things repeated over and over again, but this time by a rapper (whom I do not know). So more-less a book I never needed to read, did not help me at all, and did not bring anything new to me, except of the name of the author.
Quirky and bold. If I had read the description of this book before I started to read it - I don't think I would have grabbed it. I would have written it off (pun). Luckily, it was a Christmas gift from a dear friend. I never would have guessed this book could mean so much to me. And yet, it does. Thanks, Russ.
I respect Russ's work ethic but holy shit this book sucks, *do hard work, be persistent, have positive thoughts, be delusional so you can believe in yourself* voila! Now you too have read about 80 percent of the book's main concepts. The only reason I'm rating it two stars is that I listen to its audiobook which was kinda cool.
So much great things to say about this book. I attempted to take my time but being entirely honest i just couldn't stop. Please add this to your must read!!!!
⭐️⭐️⭐️ - I LOVED It Was You All Along by Russ last year, which made me add this one to my TBR. In this book he did a great job at portraying a positive outlook on life no matter what you’re facing. Reading it as Russ fan probably makes me biased😂 was it amazing? No. Was it bad? Also no. lol This book really opened my eyes to how Russ has had to change his mindset in life to manifest the career and life he has today. It made me understand why to non - fans he may come off as “cocky” and “full of himself”, but truly there were some key life lessons in this book that really made me pause and think about things. It was very much focused on personal growth and believing in yourself. I think that there are deff some things that seem cliche, but it just made sense! Quick and easy read! . . “If you are living for the approval of others, you will always have a void. Fill the void with self-approval, which will blossom into self-love” . . “You send things into the universe and they come back to you, but they don’t always come when you expect or want them to. You have to know WHAT you want. If you are too attached to the WHEN, you will be fighting the natural flow of the universe”
"As long as you are becoming the best version of you, you will not disappoint yourself. If you ever have a crisis of faith, you will always have the answer: The answer is YOU."
I am not a fan of self-help books but i am a FAN of Russ for so long that's why i gave his book a try. I love Russ not just because of his music but because of his being eloquent and optimistic. Russ's songs when you examine it, you know it talk about life, his life and he wants it to share to his fans. I liked the way he incorporated some of his lyrics with this book- straight up optimism and convictions which you can also hear to his every song- the alignment and connections is accurate.
I am a man of self-doubt, hesitations and insecurity; i don't even know what fuels me up; what my passion is... not until i finished reading this book. It's All In You Head will conjure so many questions in your HEAD about how you're living your life: Are you living it for yourself or for others?. In some point, i know I am Russ yet I am not living like him- i am hesitant to take risks and i am lacking self-belief but this book, created a whole new perspective that i know i can apply into my journey.
DELUSION. MANIFESTATION. GRATITUDE. The success is all in your head, you just need to unravel it and start to work; your fuel is your own potential. To those who have self-doubt, this book is for you!
Quick yet packs a powerful amount of punches into its small seams!
I only know of and completed this book because of my young adult son's high recommendation to do so. And it didn't disappoint.
It reminded me. Encouraged me. Empowered me. Set me free and helped my wings hit a growth spurt.
The point of this book is to spark (or pour gas on!) the flames inside us. Igniting the dreams we have for ourselves. Maybe some of which we have let die out over decades?
If you have 1.5hrs you too can listen to this audio book, and I promise you, walk away thankful that you gave yourself that window of time to ignite the fight! You know? That fight inside us. Where dreams and "reality" dual it out for our time and attention?
"Fire is only caused by friction!"
If your dreams need some flame-inducing mental liquid courage... Pour this is in you.
And remember: You are your only barrier to living your dreams. 💓
Overall, a really inspirational and motivational book! Russ helps you to love yourself, trust yourself, believe in yourself, and manifest success for yourself.
I might be biased because Russ is my favorite rapper but I loved this book. It’s short and you can read it in one sitting, which is really nice because it feels like a very wise motivational speech that includes his own experiences. He goes back to different situations in his life and what he learned from it and it’s just insanely motivational. I’m definitely going to reread it every one in a while
Quick and impactful read for anyone struggling with internal belief and drive to do the things you want to in life. I swear this book relieved a constant physical headache in my head. It doesn’t hurt that if you listen to the audible copy, Russ himself reads to you.
I’ll share my journey. I read a ‘chapter’ each day as I sat outside with my pups running around. I read and then I sat. I didn’t know Russ before this point, but the man has so many great points to share. By sitting with each chapter, I felt I was able to get the most out of the lessons, rather than just breezing through. The words are carefully and creatively chosen, and there were so many one liners that made me pause.
I could relate to how I get in my own way, and how my perceptions of what others think or are doing different than me get in my own way. So many times, I have to toil before a project comes into fruition, and Russ could relate that it’s normal- keep working. I appreciated the conclusion- that we should always strive to become the best version of ourselves.
I’m so glad my sister gifted me this book. It’s definitely one I’ll revisit.
Mind blowing book. Even if you aren't an artist you can relate with it very very much. This is the first ever book i have read completely and i am glad i can say with proud. Such an amazingly written and executed. Russ 👏👏👏
