This book is an amazing psychic thriller and it hit home for me in so many different ways.
In How Does She Know you quickly learn that the main character, Anna, lives with a very special gift. She was blessed/cursed with this at a very young age. She has always been different and now that she is an adult, she's finally able to attempt to make everything fall in place. And, for once, hopefully make sense of it all. You see, she's got the ability to speak to the dead. And, no one has ever actually believed her. She was even in therapy for a while and sometimes it felt as though even her therapist couldn't quite wrap his head around what was going on with her.
Anna, an author, just released her novel and is scheduled to go live with a reporter about her book and her background. But, when Anna gets a vision right before they are scheduled to go on air, things quickly change. Anna, receives a message from someone’s loved one and wants Anna to pass the message along. But she has to decide if she wants to pass the message along in private or do it on live television? With things quickly heating up Anna doesn't have much time to choose.
After the broadcast things really pick up for her. Everyone and their brother seemed to have seen her on tv or they heard it through the grapevine that all those years her abilities were actually true. And, now she's magically Ms. Popular. This story does have multiple p.o.v and throughout the story you get to read from the other character's perspective of how they came to know Anna and what their experiences were like around her. It was kind of half and half for the experiences. Some were heartwarming and some were heartbreaking.
You also learn that Anna has had this gift for literal years. And she spent the longest time trying to understand why she was having them and what they meant. But she was always too afraid to truly tell anyone because of the fear of what may happen to her.
But, these visions are getting worse now. Some are very violent and detailed. And when a vision about a childhood friend comes into play, Anna just might discover how she truly died. But, the main thing is Anna has to figure out how to get everyone to believe her and listen to what she has to say because after all, a vision isn't necessarily a confession.
I'm giving this book 5 out of 5 stars and I highly HIGHLY recommend giving it a try.
Afterthought:
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It grabbed my attention from page one and I haven't been able to completely pull myself away from it. It did take me a while to get through it and it's probably because of how in depth it was and there being multiple p.o.v.. But, it was still an amazing read. I really loved how it gave you a glance of how Anna was raised and how much she was bullied for being different. The aspect of not having a family that cared about you or didn't love you but showed favoritism to your sibling. This is the part that hit me the hardest because I was bullied too. Bullied for being different. Not in the same ways that Anna was but I still connected on that level of understanding of what it's like to be different. To be the one that just doesn't belong and feel as though you're not good enough. To try your best to have a friend(s) but no one wants you and when someone is actually nice to you, it's hard to accept it. It also touched home with me in the aspect that I too seem to have a sense or knack of when something isn't right. I've seen paranormal things myself. And, also have a grandma who always had a way of knowing things without even being told about it. I'm truly thankful that I was given the opportunity to read How Does She Know. These two authors are absolutely amazing and their storytelling skills are off the charts. I don't know if there is going to be a book two or not but if so, I can't wait.
