Shannon’s heart has always belonged to one man—Rich, her high school sweetheart she thought she’d love forever. But as Rich’s battles with the bottle cast a long shadow over their marriage, Shannon is forced to make an agonizing choice. Enter Nick Ford: the suave, green energy maverick who’s as alluring as he is controversial in their quaint lakeside town. As whispers of a new romance between Shannon and Nick ripple across Newfound Lake, the community watches, and Shannon stands at a crossroads. With Rich’s refusal to fade quietly into the background and Nick turning up the charm, the question isn’t just about Shannon’s choice, but her courage. Can she step away from a past that defines her, daring to embrace a love that promises a new beginning? Will Shannon surrender to the pull of a familiar embrace or risk it all for a love that could change everything?
Alanna Grace’s debut novel, 183 Reasons, is the first of the Newfound Lake Series. Alanna spent most of her summers falling in love with the Lakes Region of New Hampshire, where her story begins. When Alanna isn’t writing, she is an outdoors enthusiast. Skiing, hiking, and paddle boarding are among her favorites. Alanna lives in New England with her husband, children, and two fur babies.
I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone that enjoys small town romance. Read 183 Reasons first because there are overlapping characters in 43 Degrees North.
Alanna Grace, the author who brought us "183 Reasons," returns with another compelling read. "43° North" emerges as an exceptional addition to the captivating Newfound Lake series, further solidifying its position as a standout interconnected stand-alone.
I believe 43° North will resonate with readers because of its rich sense of community intertwined throughout the Newfound Lake series, which adds an extra layer of authenticity to the narrative, drawing readers into the story on a deeper level.
Shannon's unwavering commitment to her high school sweetheart, Richard, despite his struggles with alcoholism, sets the stage for a poignant exploration of love and sacrifice. As Shannon grapples with her own neglected needs, readers are invited on a transformative journey of self-discovery and new beginnings.
Nick's arrival as the suave CEO of Green Breeze Enterprise injects a dynamic energy into the small-town setting, sparking both conflict and growth as he navigates the intricacies of rural life. Alongside the compelling central characters, the supporting cast adds depth and diversity, with each character bringing their own unique perspective to the unfolding story.
Bringing back Jackson and Solia, as well as Earl and Sylvia, whose enduring love stories serves as a heartwarming anchor amidst the novel's twists and turns, make reuniting with familiar faces feel like returning home.
Alanna Grace effortlessly transports readers to the idyllic landscapes of Newfound Lake with the Christianson's apple orchard, as well as the cozy ambiance of the Binn, a local dive bar, infusing the narrative with a palpable sense of place.
Beyond its surface charm, 43° North delves into themes of resilience, connection, and the enduring power of love, offering readers a truly immersive literary experience that transcends mere entertainment.
A small town romance where it's not really enemies to lovers BUT The MMC is kind of the enemy to everyone in the small town except for the FMC. I enjoyed having a book deal with the ugly sides that divorce can produce. The FMC was strong and fierce and, ultimately, getswhat she deserves when it comes to love. I would definitely recommend reading 183 reasons before picking up this book!
I had the privilege of reading this as an ARC and it was a beautifully written story of Shannon and Nick and proof people can change for the better and that some aren’t worth saving, despite themselves. I love Alanna’s writing and can’t wait to read more from this series!
I absolutely love this small town, second chance romance with just the right amount of spice! The characters are so memorable and relatable! Alanna Grace doesn’t disappoint!
Alanna Grace's "43 North" is a compelling and emotionally charged narrative that beautifully captures the complexities of love, choice, and courage.
Shannon's journey is one that resonates deeply, as she navigates the treacherous waters of a marriage marred by Rich's alcoholism and the tantalizing possibility of a fresh start with Nick Ford. Grace's writing shines as she brings the quaint lakeside town of Newfound Lake to life, painting a vivid backdrop for Shannon's internal and external struggles.
The character development is exquisite, particularly in Shannon, who emerges as a relatable and inspiring protagonist. Her emotional turmoil and the strength required to make life-altering decisions are portrayed with authenticity and grace. Rich's battle with the bottle is handled with sensitivity, adding layers of depth to the story, while Nick's charm and vision for green energy introduce a refreshing and thought-provoking element.
Grace skillfully builds tension as Shannon's potential new romance with Nick becomes the talk of the town. The community's watchful eyes and Shannon's introspective journey add a rich texture to the narrative, making it impossible to put down. The novel doesn't just explore romantic love but also delves into self-love and the courage it takes to break free from a past that no longer serves us.
"43 North" is more than a love story; it's a testament to the power of resilience and the beauty of new beginnings. Alanna Grace has crafted a poignant and unforgettable tale that will stay with readers long after the last page is turned. This book is a must-read for anyone who enjoys a heartwarming, thought-provoking, and ultimately uplifting story.
I finally had time to read this beautiful book. It's book two of The Newfound Lake Series. First of all... the freaking cover is gorgeous. I have zero desire to live where it snows ever again. I despise the snow and being cold more than anything, but the way these books just pull you into the setting makes me want to pack my bags. As much as I hate winter, the mountains will always have my heart. Throw in a beautiful lake and a cozy small town.. I'm sold!
After reading book one, I literally said, "I have a feeling I'll eventually like Nick, or at least slightly, and I don't want to 🤣🤣" and boy, was I right. At the beginning of book 2, he's not very liked by the town for obvious reasons, but Shannon, who's going through a divorce from the only man she's ever loved, is willing to give him a second chance. The way he wants her melts my heart, but with his career, can be ever be enough for her? I don't want to spoil anything, but the scenes in this book might have you looking for a lakehouse in the mountains (with a dock). I really love how much you learn about side characters. It's so easy to love all the friends and family as well. I especially love how well the relationship with the grandparents is tied in and portrayed. Earl is my favorite man, despite the efforts of the younger men in these books. There is no comparison. I may have had watery eyes by the end of the book. It was so sweet and was wrapped up perfectly. The writing is beautiful, and these books are so easy to read and follow. I genuinely never want this series to end.
4.5⭐️ - Thank you to Alanna Grace for sending me a physical copy of this book! I also bought the ebook version to support this wonderful indie author. Here’s my honest review.
I loved Book 1, but this one is my favorite so far. I went through a gamut of emotions reading this, and it was such a great read. It had it all: emotion, drama, spice, romance, and humor….oh my goodness I went from tearing up to laughing out loud to wanting to yell!
There is something specific Shannon goes through with her grandmother in this story that got me right in the heart. I connected with Shannon because I went through it myself with my own grandma. I had tears welling up remembering my own experience and emotions with it. Alanna wrote those scenes so well, I felt like I was reliving my own memories.
It was amazing seeing Shannon be strong in dealing with Richard and his alcoholism. It was evident she struggled with real life emotions and the back and forth of wanting to help him but also knowing when she’s done enough.
Nick’s character development was enjoyable to watch from 183 Reasons to the end of 43 Degrees North. He had his own issues to work through and ended up figuring out what he truly wanted in life.
That ending and the ending line …a perfect way to wrap up Shannon & Nick’s story!
I’ll end my review by saying although this book had a lot of emotion, it had so many funny moments that I truly laughed out loud!
This is the story of Shannon who is in the middle of a nasty divorce and falls for the one person that no one in town can really get behind. Alanna did a great job showing us the dynamics of this community and their disdain for Nick in book one, 183 Reasons so you know there will be a lot of hurdles for this couple to jump.
You don’t want to miss the return of this beautiful small town and all of the fun characters that reside within its borders!
This story, much like its predecessor, is not solely about love but also about community and growth. The shining star of this book is Shannon's journey of self-worth and freedom which is handled with great care and respect. Shannon has to face her whole world falling apart in front of everyone she loves, she has to make the decision to put herself first in a small town with old-fashioned values, and she does these things with courage and grace. Alanna has given us this book as a beacon of hope to people everywhere that you don't have to stay in a bad situation, you can move forward and you can hold your head high knowing that you chose yourself.
We are back in Newfound lake, right where 183 Reasons left off, and Alanna did it again! 43° North is as heartwarming as book one, and is an easy, feel good story.
Just like book one, I was laughing and giggling by chapter three! I am glad we still got to see Jackson, Solia, and other characters, but thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Shannon more. Watching Shannon discover more about herself, and grow despite her situation, felt personal to me and I was rooting for her every step of the way!
Alanna once again made me feel SO connected to the characters in her writing. She sets the tone, and the way she describes everything makes me feel so immersed in the story. I’m on the other side of the country, but I feel like I’m right there watching everything happen (okay, maybe not everything 😂)
All of these characters, both main and side, have my heart, and I can’t wait to see more of them in the future! 🫶🏼
Keep pushing for those hard goals, Alanna! I believe in you and your books, and you deserve all the good things! ❤️
As with 183 Reasons, this book was beautifully written! The writing is so descriptive you will feel as though you’re at Newfound Lake as well! 💖
Shannon and Nick’s story was so heartwarming. They each are dealing with a lot of struggles. Shannon is going through a divorce, while trying to stay away from her alcoholic almost ex-husband, worrying about her grandparents old age and the farm, and then her grandmother Sylvia ends up hospitalized. Nick is still struggling to win over the people in this small town, he’s realizing his usual lifestyle isn’t for him anymore- trying to find his place in Newfound lake, and trying to convince Shannon that she’s it for him.
Despite everything they are each going through in their busy lives, they make time for each other. I loved seeing their relationship grow to be something beautiful. I also loved the self-discovery for both. Shannon realizing that she doesn’t need to hold on to her old love for Richard, and Nick coming to terms with pursuing the lake life and picking up his camera again. 💖
This might not have been the best book to read directly following my divorce finalization… 😅 The FMC was inspiring in how she transformed and began to stand up for herself and what she wanted. I loved watching her strength grow. The MMC was not my cup of tea at all to be honest… I got SO MANY red flags from him. By the end, I was hopeful in their future and relationship but it seemed like he needed to work through some more things (and her too). I also didn’t care for the spice - I don’t like men demanding things of women in the bedroom (whether they are consenting to that or not). I find it distasteful. However, I was engaged with the grandparents’ storyline and loved seeing Jackson and Solia being happy together in this book. They deserve a happy ending. And I believe Shannon does too. Now - we just need to confirm Gerry’s! :)
43° North by Alana Grace is a beautifully crafted contemporary steamy romance that pulled me in from the very first page. Shannon’s journey of starting over in a small lake town is both heartfelt and inspiring. The way the story explores friendship, healing, and the cautious bloom of new love feels so authentic and refreshing. Nick’s steady presence offers a perfect balance to Shannon’s strength and vulnerability.
What really stood out was how real and raw the challenges were—the messy return of the past, the struggle to protect newfound peace, and the courage it takes to choose what's best for your future. This book isn’t just about romance; it’s about reclaiming your life and identity with grace and fire.
If you love second-chance stories with depth and emotional truth, 43° North is an absolute must-read!
I will have to say this book is like a Christmas hug. Alanna Grace transports you to a place that u should be jealous of. This book is about Shannon, which is Jackson’s sister. He is from her first book 183 Reasons. Shannon falls for the city boy. This story not only brings you into their love story but brings you into Shannon’s family, friends, her ex husband and her grandparents . Definitely brings a little heat with it. Oh my🥵🔥
Alanna describes this book with so much feeling it makes u feel like you are right there. I love stories like this. To me Newfound lake is the place to be. Spring , Summer, Winter, Fall. Please enjoy this read, it was a must for me.
43 Degrees North" is a delightful continuation of Alanna's series, bringing readers back to Newfound Lake. The story focuses on Shannon and Nick, whose chemistry and personal journeys are both heartwarming and relatable. Shannon navigates life after a divorce, an ailing grandmother, and managing the family farm, while Nick strives to find his place in the small town and win over Shannon. Alanna's vivid descriptions and immersive writing make you feel part of the story. With engaging characters, surprises, and a perfect blend of humor and drama, this feel-good read will leave you eagerly anticipating the next installment.
Another amazing story by Alanna in her Newfound Lake series!
Book 2 focuses on Shannon and Nick and I'm so glad it does because their story is so cute! Shannon is figuring out life after divorce and an accident in the family while Nick is busy running his late fathers business and is constantly on the go until he meets Shannon. The banter and chemistry between these two is awesome. This book has a little bit of everything including spice, growth of characters, surprises, and some drama. I love a story where the characters feelings are relatable!
I chose this amazing book to be my companion on a 14 hour car ride and wow did it help the time fly! I fell in love with Newfound Lake in the previous book and it was nice to see some familiar characters again and see how their stories progress. Aside from things happening really, really fast in this small town 😂 I have zero complaints. I love that we get a little spice but nothing two crazy. All of these characters are people you really find yourself rooting for and wanting to be friends with. This book is like hug and cup of hot cocoa on a cold day. I hope we get more visits to the lake!
I loved Shannon and Nicks love story. I also loved the reality of life happening around them as a secondary plot. Love grows amidst the chaos and that is certainly captured in this novel. It’s a lovely continuation of and addition to 183 Reasons. While the themes being dealt with were definitely darker, it was so incredibly well done and entertaining. I certainly hope this isn’t the last we hear from Newfound Lake or Alanna Grace because I’m not ready to say goodbye to these characters!
This book was wonderful!! I need to visit this lake! I asked the author if it was real and it is!! The illustration in this book is incredible and I loved every second of it! I gave this book five stars because I was sucked in from the beginning! I loved Nick and Shannon and I loved how the characters from her first book are in this too! The Community in this book makes me want to expand my friend group!!
With Nick being the bad guy in the last book, it was interesting to see him in this one and just how much he changed over the course of the book. It seemed like each time he came to town spent time with Shannon his priorities changed. I liked the choice he made at the end and how he shared it with Shannon, it made what she had to tell Nick all the better. It was nice to see how happy they were at the end.
I truly love the story of Shannon and Nick. This book is proof that people can change when true love presents itself. The love shown in both Shannon and Nicks families shows “real life”, sticking together through the good and bad times. Makes me want to spend the Holidays in New Hampshire! I look forward to more of this series! Alanna Grace has become one of my favorite authors!

Alanna did it again! If you want a small town romance that makes you feel like you’re a character in the book THIS IS FOR YOU! I felt the love, the friendship, the passion and the pain. I laughed out loud. I cried a few tears. The spice was perfect. Thanks for another great read that keeps me wanting more from this author.
Shannon is from a small lake town and Nick is from Boston. Nick buys a summer home on the lake, but his attraction to Shannon makes him rethink his job in Boston. This is book 2 in the Newfound Lake Series so you see all the great characters from book 1. This is an opposites attract situation and I would say he falls first. Smooth writing makes this a quick read.
Alanna Grace keeps it going with book 2! I loved this book so much! She tackles some tough life stuff throughout this book- the message of family, love, and sometimes making life changes is strong and meaningful! The Newfound Lake crew sound like my kinda people!
Fantastic as always! I may have loved this book just a little bit more that the first. I really felt the character building of this book was great..we really got to dive in to these two families together. Highly recommend this read!
A beautiful continuation of life in New England and the love of a small town. 43⁰ North will make you fall in love with the life and people of Meriden while leaving you wanting more. I can't wait for the next one.
What else can I say except - when can we expect Book 3? This book captured me right from the first pages and I love that we got to hear more about Solia and Jackson, all while falling in love with another couple! You did it again, Alanna!
I loved this book! It's the second book in The Newfound Lake Series. The characters are relatable and easy to love. The story was so good. I'm hoping the third book isn't too far away. I highly recommend this series.
2nd book in the Newfound Lake series. This is the prefect contemporary romance novel. The characters are loveable and the setting is beautiful. I didn't want the book to end. I hope they'll be a third book.
