Anyone looking for the perfect BABYSITTER?

If so, I just found a 5-star BABYSITTER that you'll love, 24/7.

Babysitter Brooke Simmons is attacked in a park while babysitting Eden, her best friend's one-year-old daughter.

When Brooke regains consciousness, Eden is gone.

Who took Eden and why?

Told from three alternating POVs (Brooke, Eden's mom, and Brooke's ex-boyfriend Jimmy) over a period of just three days. author Gemma Rogers masterfully reveals all the details of the kidnapping (including the "whodunnit") in the first few chapters.

But knowing "whodunnit" is not where this fast-paced and delightfully tense thriller ends.

Throughout the entire book, the author ingeniously unravels the threads that held these three complex and compelling characters together, with many stunning "OMG!" moments.

The book's numerous twists and turns were gasp-worthy and impossible to predict.

I have read many, many books about nannies, babysitters, and caretakers and quite frankly, I doubted that any author could provide a scintillating "new twist" to a child-abduction domestic drama.

Gemma Rogers proved me wrong.  The author's character development was stellar and the storyline was smart, textured, well-plotted, and unputdownable.

I listened to the audiobook and the narration was "different" but not bad.

This was my first Gemma Rogers book and I look forward to listening to future titles by this author.

*Bitter Revenge*

Brooke is a Babysitter for her best friend Ali’s daughter Eden. One day while walking in the park with Eden, Brooke is attacked. She loses consciousness and as she comes too she realises that Eden has been taken..…

All is not what it seems and Brooke is not unsettled because she knows who has taken Eden. She has told too many lies and the whole thing spirals.

We then hear the pov’s of the culprit and the mother Ali. The back story is based on revenge, Brooke had her heartbroken and was ghosted and hurt by the culprit. Her misguided motivation is money. She had a taste of living away from home and is back living with her overbearing mother who is continually in her personal business.

Brooke has told too many lies and that includes the police. As the investigation into Eden’s whereabouts is ongoing the detectives start to smell a rat, as the walls start closing in Brooke hatches a plan to get Eden back. In her imagination she will be hailed the heroine of the piece who found Eden and everything will go back to normal….

All this is going on and Brooke seems to be so focused on her plan that she does not seem to grasp the devastation she is causing Ali , her husband an the culprit are feeling and was it worth putting the culprit through the pain she caused?

Ali and Christopher Tolfrey's one year old daughter Eden is abducted whilst in the care of Ali's best-friend. Snatched in broad daylight from Bushy Park on a trip to the swings, Eden disappears without trace. Brooke Simmons, regains consciousness, dazed from a blow to her head, to find Eden her best friends child is missing. Someone has taken Eden and Brooke knows who. But it's a secret she can't share with Ali or the police without revealing the web of deceit she's spun.

This story is set over three days and has four main characters: Ali, Christopher, Brooke and Jimmy. Ali wants to spend time with her daughter but she's also desperate to get back to work. Brooke helps out Ali by taking Eden out so that Ali can work in peace. Then Brooke is knocked out from behind and Eden is nowhere to be found.

The story is told from multiple points of view and it's a fast paced read. We find out who the abductor is quite early. Filled with deception, lies and revenge. This is an easy book to get caught up in. I didn't like one of the characters, but it's not the one you'd expect. A thoroughly engrossing read.

I would like to thank #NetGalley #BoldwoodBooks and the author #GemmaRogers for my ARC of #TheBabysitter in exchange for an honest review.

I know I am constantly saying there are many books out about missing children/adults but this book is a whole new take/angle on the theme and is very clever indeed
Told by 3 narrators, ( trying not to give anything away ) all I can say is the story and where it went surprised me and in a good way, a really good way
All 3 main characters had me swopping and changing how I felt about them as the story progressed and there is this wonderful moment when one of the 3 announces something to her husband that causes the story to take on a new edge and it came right out of the blue
Really good writing, interesting characters that I liked as it wasn’t easy to pigeon hole your views on them and some great supporting cast from a wet behind the ears Policeman to an overbearing and coddling Mum
Really enjoyed this book, full of suspense, drama and unexpectedness, a thrilling read

I admire the reviewers who post a chart with the meaning of their stars. I’m not that organized. I know a 5 star and a 1 star without question. Every other rating is hard. I’m calling this one a 3. I listened. It wasn’t the worst, certainly not the best, I’d never listen again, but it filled the day.

At one point I knew: this must be the finale. Annnnndddd then I realized there were 3 more hours to go. I couldn’t imagine what more needed to be said, and after that 3 additional hours, I stand by my original opinion.

A variation on the old theme of a person being sent to prison for a crime they claim they did not commit. Upon release from prison they are intent on proving their innocence. I think the author does a wonderful job of refreshing this theme. The pace is fast but sometimes repetitive and predictable. The story is well crafted and suspenseful. The characters are good and the writing simple and to the point. The story is narrated from different points of views and each chapter is assigned to a separate participant. Enjoyable mystery.

I was given this book as a widget by the publisher, and it was my first Gemma Rogers.

Here the author puts on show what is the worst nightmare to every parent: the abduction of one's child. In this case the abduction takes place while the child is minded by a babysitter who is also a friend of the mother's child, someone she trusts completely. But there are a lot of secrets that wait to be uncovered.

I loved this book, i was gripped right from the start, it's fast paced, suspenseful and full of tension. The characters are great, the plot is remarkably delivered and the writing style is amazing.

Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Ali's best friend, Brooke, is also a neighbor who occasionally watches Ali's year-old daughter, Eden, every once in a while.

While Brooke has Eden at the local park, she is hit from behind. When she comes to, Eden is gone.

Someone has taken Eden and Brooke knows who.

All it takes is one snap decision or bad judgment call to lead to severe consequences. This is one decision that Brooke doesn't dare share with Eden's mother .. or the police. But it seems that Brooke is not the only one with secrets.

It's well written, not suspenseful, as the reader knows the "who" almost from the beginning. There are twists and turns that lead to a surprising breathless conclusion. The characters are all solidly defined. The story is told by three voices ... the mother, the babysitter and the man who took Eden. This is a stand-alone novel and set in the Surrey and Sussex areas.

Many thanks to the author / Boldwood Books / Netgalley for the digital copy of this page-turning thriller. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

While a babysitter is taking care of the baby, she is attacked and the baby is kidnapped.
This is a reverse story, the kidnapper's identity is known, the reason for the kidnapping is also known but how the story progresses later is interesting.

The book starts fast but gets slow in the middle and later picks up the pace. It's an interesting and fun read. It's good to read the book from the victim and kidnapper's perspective rather than the cops perspective. That's what made this a unique read. The plot is simple and the number of characters is perfect. Overall, it's a good read and is recommended to all crime and suspense lovers.

I've read at least one other book by Rogers and enjoyed it, and I found this one to be entertaining and engaging, as well.

The pacing is appropriate for the genre, and I love stories told from multiple POVs as it gives me a more well-rounded feel for things. There were a few unexpected twists. I look forward to reading future books by this author.

Three women. Three secrets. The women are Claudia, Anna and Sara.

As the book begins, Claudia is released from prison after admitting the manslaughter of her baby daughter, Tilly, ten years earlier. But Claudia only confessed so she would be released and be able to try and find out what really happened. Anna is the woman who should have been babysitting Tilly that fateful day, but who let Claudia and her husband, Joe, down. Sara is Joe's new wife and they have a baby together and are living in the house where Claudia used to live with her family.

Claudia is determined to get to the bottom of Tilly's disappearance and this makes her quite volatile and vulnerable.

I found The Babysitter to be a story that gripped me and kept me reading, wanting to know the truth of what happened to Tilly and who made it happen. It's fast-paced and twisty with a plot that I found compelling. Claudia literally has nothing to lose in leaving no stone unturned whereas Anna and Sara have much to hide. I didn't know who to believe or trust.

It wasn’t that long ago that I actually found this author and since then I have listened to a few her books. I just love them! Something that starts out innocent and turns into something sinister with everyday people with a web of deceit. Gemma’s story telling is so believable it makes you think that this could actually happen.

This story was easy to visualise that I think it would make an awesome movie! The feelings, relationships with the characters are so real. I dont want to say to much without giving anything away but I loved the bond with Eden. You will see what I mean when you read it yourself.

Be prepared for a roller coaster ride with plenty of twists and turns and OMG moments! Once I started listening to this I couldn’t stop it was so addictive. I also loved the narrator she certainly brought this story to life. This is with a doubt my kind of crime thriller.

The Babysitter full on WOWED me! it is utterly brilliant.

3 characters, 3 days, and 1 missing child. A mother, a nanny, and a kidnapper. The entire premise was exciting.
Fast-paced with the story narrated via 3 POVs, the pages turned almost on their own.
Curiosity and a need to know the truth kept me on my toes till the end.
The concept was clean. It spoke of fallacies of human psyche and what desperation could lead them to do.
The author took a predictable tale and gave it her own twist. The ending was quite unexpected.
Predictable. I knew what lie the nanny had cultivated to lead the kidnapper on, right from the very beginning.
Everything was already told in the book, the identity of the kidnapper and the reasons for the heinous crime. I was not too fond of stories where I couldn't play the detective.

The book was still fun enough to read on a Saturday afternoon. It gave the comfort of a mini-thriller.

For me, the plot twist was revealed much too early, leaving me indifferent to finishing the book. A third of the way through, I nearly decided to put it on the shelf for good, but I pressed on to make sure there wasn’t some other twist coming that I wasn’t expecting. Spoiler alert: there wasn’t. I prefer a book that keeps me guessing until the end, motivating me to keep reading, which is why I give this 2 stars.

It kept me reading, a bit slow in parts, i don’t think i needed to know about all the nappy and vaby clothing changes. Spoiler alert, wth was the attempted strangulation of the wife thing, she stands up to him at first but later he says sorry and she thinks it’s more important to have the traditional family intact. So her, the baby and the domestic abuser all live happily ever after?!

One of my favourite books so far this year! Really hard to tell from the beginning if Claudia was in her right mind or if she really was guilty but that kept me wanting to read and find out more. Felt so much sympathy for some of the characters and plot twist and plot twist came about and I was shocked!!!

If this isn’t on your list to be read, add it now

The story of a missing infant told by an author I've enjoyed many times previously, Gemma Rogers. This wasn't my favourite book by Rogers but nonetheless it was certainly an enjoyable read.

The Babysitter started out as a slow burner for me and I wondered if it was going to end up a disappointment but eventually the pace picked up and I was sucked in, flying through those final pages!

Books in which we are told the story via multiple perspectives are always my favourite, I feel like it gives us the opportunity to get to know the characters so much better!

A well written, entertaining book filled with tension and drama. I look forward to Roger's next release.

Excellent thriller, I really enjoyed the writing and the storyline, this is a very well thought out plot and right to the end you are left wondering! There are very small actions that make you think something is going to happen to trip somebody up (no spoilers) This is a superb child abduction story which I loved and couldn't put down, I will seek to read more by Gemma Rogers.

So so so good.

Fast becoming one of my favourite authors. The Babysitter is just Gemma Rogers at her ultimate best. I love the way she fluctuates the story between the protaganists in short bursts but manages to keep the story flowing. The build up is superb. Slow on purpose but always fast paced (if that makes sense) Then the twists. Brilliant.

Gemma Rogers is the maestro of the hell that could happen to me factor. And the domino effect. . One little innocuous thing is just ramped up 10 fold with energy.

I love all the authors books. She reminds me of Alfred Hitchcock in how she writes. Ensemble claustrophobic vibes. The best stand alone writer out there for crime fiction. If you like Mandasue Heller read her books.

What a massive yawn-fest. Why does the author tell you everything from the get-go? The writing isn’t good enough for there to be no jeopardy. I skipped massive sections because I was so bored. Narration was truly awful as well but largely because you could feel the usually excellent Imogen Church desperately trying to make it exciting when it wasn’t.

Just zero suspense or intrigue… they told you from the get go after chapter 2 who took the baby and why. Therefore beyond not liking to quit books i start I’m not sure why I kept listening. It was 100% predictable as to any other questions you might have thought of.

I have been a fan of Gemma’s work for a while now. I have read and loved every book that she has released to date. I read the synopsis for ‘The Babysitter’ and it certainly sounded like the gritty and fast paced story I have come to expect from Gemma. I couldn’t wait to start reading and so without further ado, I grabbed a cup of tea, grabbed my Kindle and settled down for an afternoon of reading. I thoroughly enjoyed reading ‘The Babysitter’ but more about that in a bit.
It took me no time at all to get into this book. I admit that I was drawn to the book by the fact that Gemma’s name was on the cover. Strangely for me I didn’t read the synopsis before I started reading and so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. The more of the book I read, the more intrigued I became and the more I wanted to read. I wasn’t quite sure what was going on but as time went on the penny dropped and I was soon able to gather a picture of events. I had my own theories as to what was going to happen so of course I had to keep reading to see if I was on the right track or if I had wandered down the wrong path entirely. The pages turned over at a fair old rate and I soon got to the end of the story. I found ‘The Babysitter’ to be a tense, dramatic and gritty story, which kept me guessing and which kept me on the edge of my seat throughout.
‘The Babysitter’ is superbly written but then I think that to be true of all of Gemma’s books in general. Gemma has one of those writing styles that is easy to get used to and easy to get along with. She certainly knows how to start a story in such a memorable way that you will remember the book long after you have finished reading it. For me, the story hit the ground running and maintained a fast pace throughout. The story is divided into individual chapters from the viewpoint of the individual main characters and describes events as they happened from their side. Reading ‘The Babysitter’ felt like being on a scary and unpredictable rollercoaster ride with many twists and turns along the way.
In short, I thoroughly enjoyed reading ‘The Babysitter’ and I would definitely recommend this book to other readers. I will certainly be reading more of Gemma’s work in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*.

First, I want to thank Gemma Rogers, Boldwood Books and Rachael’s Random Resources for providing me with this book so I may bring you with this review.

WOW!!! WOW!! WOW!! Every Mother’s worst nightmare comes true in Gemma Roger’s The Babysitter. You think you can trust your babysitter but can you really? If you love missing person cases like I do you must put this on your TBR list. However, this is unlike any other missing person case book you will ever read. The story is so twisted but oh so good!! I absolutely loved it.

I really appreciated how Gemma in her Author Note gave us some background on the characters so we would have a better feel for the story.

Oh Gemma grabbed me and just sucked me into this intense storyline right off the bat! She put a lot of detail into that scene. Along with Brooke I too was yelling at my Kindle where is Eden?!

My heart went out to Eden’s parent’s. How do you tell someone that their daughter is missing?! It just pulled on my heart strings big time.

Eden was the one who captured my heart in all of this. She is so cute and didn’t deserve any of this.

The backstory of how Brooke and Ali met made for an interesting read.

The Babysitter was twisted, suspenseful, shocking, lots of twists and turns, and will make you rethink who you leave your child with.

This book was an unputdownable page turner. While right from the start you knew who had taken Eden and why, the story revolved around how the abducter was going to get themselves out of the situation they had found themselves in. The story was told from the perspective of three different characters, and I have to say, while not agreeing with his actions, I felt sympathy towards Jimmy. As a mother I could also feel so much empathy for Ali and while she had made a mistake in the past, she did not deserve Christopher’s treatment of her. In fact I really didn’t like Christopher at all. While I could understand his anger and coldness, he wasn’t a likeable character at all, though of all of the main characters he was the one I felt we knew the least, and also didn’t get to read from his perspective. Brooke was immature and possibly suffering from some kind of mental health problem, to get herself into such a tricky situation and not to come clean about it. I really enjoyed this book and couldn’t put it down.

I discovered this author about a year or so ago, and was instantly a fan.

This one did not disappoint.

It’s one of those where everything is explained in the first few chapters, but that’s not the end. It’s just the beginning.
Told over a period of 3 days, we find out that we can’t really trust those around us. Is the babysitter too good to be true? Are the parents all they seem?

I’ve got admit, initially I found all of the characters extremely irritating. I don’t know why, but they all came across as awful people.

As the story continued, I found myself thinking completely differently! By the last few chapters there was only person I was routing for.
I’m not going to say because, we’ll, spoilers.

But I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone.
