No one knew dragons used to exist. They were creatures of myths and legends. Fairytales.
Right until a fire-spewing monster breaks open the world and changes everything.
As it turns out, the dragons aren’t friendly.
Join Benjamin Draig and Marty Ambrose as they discover what it’s like to live in a world they never expected to be in.

It was supposed to be a fun break while school was out for the semester.
A chance meeting between Benjamin Draig and Martin "Marty" Ambrose suggests the potential for a great friendship. Both were with different groups of friends just outside of Moab, both on their way to hike through the mountains.
But then things went horribly wrong.
It’s all Benjamin and Marty can do to stay alive when the earth opens beneath their feet, and they’re swallowed by the mountain.
As a fire-spewing monster emerges and spreads its wings to blot out the sky, Benjamin and Marty learn that the comfortable illusion of the world they knew is gone.
Everything has changed. Depending on the other for every second of their survival, they reach what looks like safety…
…then their entire world comes undone.
The world beneath the mountain is impossibly huge, but the sheer size isn't the only thing that beggars belief.
As the titanic monster takes to the sky, leaving behind the lair that has lain buried for millennia, the two men know what they have to do.
They've got to brave the dangers of the dragon's lair and hope there's something to defeat the monster razing the country in fire and flames.
Otherwise, this new world is going to be a place where becoming a dragon’s dinner is the better option.

I know it’s a play on Game of Thrones as the author explains in his notes, but serfs, as I. Servants? Who are the servants? Is Benji considered a serf? I do love the book, it took me ages to get through since I started playing Zelda BotW at the same time, and I ended up reading only when I was out somewhere waiting for something or on the toilet or right before bed or right after I woke up. Oh and ofc when I’m eating. I love a good book while I’m eating. I read this after his other dragon series about the steel dragon and the spin offs and I can only say I hope we get a spin off, because to me this story doesn’t feel finished. The big bad, it wasn’t destroyed, it retreated, AGAIN! and with everyone getting kids, a spin off 20 years in the future would be a great thing. I could already see a few angles on how this could continue. As long as the deep matron isn’t vanquished for all time this is possibility for more.
Brilliant read! This was quite an unusual take on dragons where they suddenly start surfacing (literally) and wreaking havoc, taking our world back to basic medieval times in the process. Oh, with magic! But not for everyone. Benjy is great as the lead character trying to hold on to his morals in this new bad world even though he is technically the king and can magically get people to do whatever he wants. I love to read a series so this was right up my street although I wasn’t too keen on The Invader storyline in the last book. Anyway, I’d thoroughly recommend and will be looking to see what other books this author has to offer.
This is a story that could happen and is almost believable, I have a lot of undone house work and late nights because of these books. I have enjoyed them and would say anyone who wants a great story about real dragons and life when it hits the fan this is the book for you
