EN Surprisingly, this volume had no action at all – just dialogue, narrative building, and character development.
Even more surprising is the fact that, despite the lack of action, it was a fantastic volume! This proves that this type of manga doesn’t need fight scenes to be engaging, as long as the plot and storytelling are compelling, which was certainly the case here.
All the characters are interesting, making every interaction just as captivating.
That said, something is clearly being built up, and I’m sure there will be plenty of action in the future.
The Fable continues to be a fun twisted dark time. We get a lot deeper into Fable's life as a regular work man. However, one of his co-workers is using spy cams to get panty shots of his other co-worker Misaki. So the Fable keeps thwarting his plans which bring me great joy. We also have a old Yakuza head get out of prison and cause trouble while Ebihara is in the hospital after collapsing. It's boiling up as this Yakuza is doing really shady shit which will only get worse.
Loving the vibe and general feel of this series. Feels made for adults without the edge factor, and some excellent character. Youko Satou is hilarious too. A 5 out of 5.
Taking a year break ...famed Hitman ...gets a salary job...but as they do complications arise and an attractive co worker and a recently released con are on a collusion course. I love the Fables astonishment that people don't eat Watermelon Finds and Chicken Bones. interesting series that bounces between clueless comedy...drinking...and sudden violence
“Oh Jackal, how do you manage to always find love?”
“How do I become a normal person after being a hitman for so long?”
“What is a normal salary for a delivery person?”
“How do I become more useless and average?”
“How do I, a strong person/killer portray myself as a weak/average person. So no one is suspicious of me”
“How do I right all of the wrongs in the world, knowing my own upbringing was wrong?”
Are all questions I would ask myself if I was a hitman going on a sabbatical, and these are just a few of the existential crises our protagonist continues to have as he moves into a new town, where only a few know him…
Or do they? LR

I wish I liked this as much as vol one. Sato continues to be a helpless goof, as he lands a crappy job, and befriends his new coworker/neighbor. His sister being a bored drunk ready to be a man-eater also got a few laughs out of me. A new antagonist face rears it's head and time flys.
I'm glad Sato is aware enough to prevent some of the gross sexual blackmail Misaki is unaware of. Judging by the ending, he might not be able to stop it all tho.
I started this right after I finished the first omnibus in July. Picked it back up and crushed it this morning. Didn’t feel like much was going on. I enjoyed it but it didn’t blow me away.
Another great addition to an awesome series. Love seeing the development of Kuro and Takahashi: both Kuro's childlike ideation of being a badass underground killer, and Takahashi's realization of just how fucked up things can get with the more senior members of Maguro.
Akira got a job! His slight uncanniness in everything he does, from how he doesn't know you're not supposed eat the rind of watermelon, to his literal 1st grade artistry level, adds tons and tons of characterization to him that perfectly counterbalances how much of a cold professional killer he is.
And we see more of Youko!! What a joy of a character she is. So funny when she fucks with these lowlife men, especially when the bartender starts getting in on it. It's only the beginning!
Aaaaand we also get the introduction of Kojima, what's shaping up to be our first villain. So behind the times of how the Yakuza operates, running on 15-year-old out of date logic since coming out of prison. Excited to reread how it goes
I still love the story, but now that we’re getting into the “year off” for a hit-man, it lacked some of the excitement of the first couple books.
We got an implied torture scene and a Yakuza takedown, but it was more of a character exposition best than a raise the stakes moment. This is not to say we’re losing momentum! It’s just… filling in. Not filler, but filling in.
It just doesn't have the same level of comedy as the first omnibus. What a disappointment! I really hope this series is able to recapture the spirit it started with
