“Enticing, heartwarming, and inspiring, you won’t want to miss this wholesome and uplifting story of compassion, grace, and second chances.” --Amazon reviewer on A Companion for Christmas
Protecting his son is his priority. Is there room for more?
Nate Constantine would do anything to provide for his son with autism—even if that means starting over in small-town Holiday Point. Or abandoning his best-laid plans and asking Freddie’s kindergarten teacher, Olivia Bell, for extra help with Freddie and his service dog, Scooby. She could be just what Freddie and his father need…but only if Olivia and Nate are willing to risk their hearts.

A Companion for His Son by Lee Tobin McClain An Uplifting Inspirational Romance (K-9 Companions Book 23) “Enticing, heartwarming, and inspiring, you won’t want to miss this wholesome and uplifting story of compassion, grace, and second chances.” --Amazon reviewer on A Companion for Christmas Protecting his son is his priority. This is Olivia Bell, Nate Constantine and his son Freddie's story. Olivia Bell set down her last heavy box and looked around her new classroom, her heart pounding with hope and excitement. She was just a substitute, but a long-term one if all went well. Although it was mid-August, the previous kindergarten teacher’s faded decorations remained. On the bulletin board, pieces of shiny fringe hung askew. A map of Pennsylvania had a rip right through the Laurel Highlands, probably due to lots of grubby fingers pointing out their tiny hometown. The voices and the crying child got louder. It sounded like there was a problem, and for better or worse, Olivia couldn’t stand by while a child was having a problem. She pushed aside her boxes and headed out the classroom door. In front of the office, a little boy lay on the floor with... Was that a large dog on his legs? Olivia walked closer. Kneeling beside the boy was a man in an expensive-looking dress shirt and tie. A slight gray around the temples suggested he was older than most parents of young children. The man patted the child’s shoulder and spoke to him in a low voice, completely ignoring the large, apricot-colored doodle that still lay across the little boy’s legs. The child’s cries were quieting. Olivia stopped a short distance away. “You were required to register your son for kindergarten in the spring,” Mr. Lindquest said, clearly continuing an ongoing argument. I recommend this book. A Companion for His Son by Lee Tobin McClain is a 5 star book. I am looking forward to reading more books by Lee Tobin McClain . I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
This gifted storyteller won me over with the first book of hers I read, and I’ve been a faithful fan ever since. It's been several weeks since I read this one, and Nate, Olivia, little Freddie and his dog Scooby still own real estate in my heart.
Anytime a book has a special-needs child, and it's done well, it makes for an extra-special read. I think of this as Freddie's story because his role is pivotal and he and Scooby easily stole my heart.
His father, Nick, moves with Freddie to small-town Holiday Point because Nick thinks the environment will be better for his autistic son. There ends up being a mix-up with the school, and Nate asks Freddie's kindergarten teacher, Olivia, to work with Freddie one-on-one.
This is the book your romantic heart needs to be uplifted, inspired, and blissfully satisfied. It's a cozy-blanket read that carries you effortlessly from beginning to end. A wonderful, wholesome story of grace, comfort, and faithfulness, this is the feel-good read your romantic heart has been craving.
Olivia is a long-term substitute teacher for kindergarten and Nick is an overprotective single dad of an autistic boy. He wants his son to be prepared for life but isn't sure the young and beautiful kindergarten teacher is the right person for the job.
Through a wonderful series of circumstance, Nick begins to see Olivia's strong character and huge heart. The romance unfolds sweetly, with moments wavering between hot and cold that are very true to each character's weaknesses and past hurts.
I love that the author took on the challenge of writing an autistic boy and provided a glimpse into the world of what many parents experience. I hope those walking this difficult road will hear the hope-filled encouragement within these pages.
A Companion for His Son is a tender, believable story of an autistic kindergartener boy and his service dog. I admired his teacher, Olivia Bell, for working so hard to help Freddie even though her position is temporary. I felt sorry for Freddie's father, Nick Constantine, who has custody of his son and has left the life he knows in New York City for life in a small town where he doesn't know how to act! You will love how Nick learns to cope and make changes in his actions. Olivia has to work to overcome her emotions from events in her childhood while wondering how long she will have a job. I certainly enjoyed A Companion for His Son and recommend it to others. I received a complimentary e-book from the author. This is my honest opinion.
I loved these characters right off the bat. He's protecting his special needs son. She can provide the care and teaching the boy needs. They are determined not to give in to an attraction they both feel. These two hurting souls are both guarding their own hearts, and this little boy, from more hurt. And the boy's K9 protector is always on the job. A sweet story about letting go of old hurts, and opening your heart to love. I received this book from the publisher as part of launch team. This review is my honest thoughts and opinion.
I enjoyed this Love Inspired Romance from start to finish. As a retired special education teacher, I could easily relate to substitute Kindergarten teacher, Olivia Bell. Any parent of a special needs child would be lucky to find her. It's hard to imagine being the parent of an Autistic child--the constant worrying, the self-loathing, the praying. The small town of Holiday Point becomes the "family" that single parent Nate and his son Freddie need. Scooby is a terrific service dog--I loved him in this story!
I absolutely loved this book! Author Lee Tobin McClain wrote a heartwarming story but wasn’t afraid to take on the challenging subject of a special needs child and his service dog.
The characters are well developed and have depth. We see normal reactions from dad Nate, who wants to protect Freddie from further hurt and abandonment. Olivia wants to help and sometimes we need that outside help. Someone not so close to the situation. Or is she? And then Scooby. What a great pup, and I’m not even a dog person.
This book is honest and has all the feelings. I highly recommend it!
A Companion for His Son is the twenty third book in the K-9 Companions series and does not disappoint. This was a inspirational and wholesome read that follows an autistic kindergartner and his service dog. The author was new to me, but I look forward to reading more books from this author. This one was written well and I enjoyed every character in this one. I really liked how the characters grew throught the experinces they encountered. Overall, I highly enjoyed this read and would recommend it to any reader who love inspirational romances.
An interesting read on a number of issues: autism, anger, betrayal and the scars experiences can leave behind. I really enjoyed the community, as well as Olive and Corey's care of others. Freddie was cute. Joyce was an excellent aunt and carer. Lots of tension and misunderstandings to begin with, but was lovely to see the characters grow through their experiences to give us a satisfying conclusion to it all. A few surprises along the way too. A good read.
A great story that includes autism, a kindergarten teacher, a partly-homeless student aide and some broken people who've gone through tough stuff in their past. The author shows some good ways to deal with autism, plus the demanding, bossy sister. The cranky, demanding sister in the classroom was a bit humorous and so realistic. Her intent was good but the carry-thru needed some help. A great, fully engaging story.
This is a sweet story that tackles several issues. Autism, service dogs, abusive families, and abandonment are all touched on is this story. Nate Constantine will do anything to help his autistic son,Freddie. However, he isn’t sure that a substitute kindergarten teacher, Olivia Bell, is the person to teach his son.
I just love Lee Tobin McClain’s books! This one takes place in Holiday Point. This one is about Nate and his son with autism who has a service dog. Teacher Olivia is helping Nate’s son. Great inspirational read!
This town is great and a great place to revisit. The characters are well written and d very realistic as is the story line keep the Kleenex handy at the end.
I really enjoyed this book. The story drew me in and made me care about the characters. I loved how the relationships developed as they got to know each other. I couldn't wait to see how things worked out.
Yes, this is a story of romance and faith, but it is also the story of a young child with special needs and a father who will do anything for the good of his child. The blend of all of this results in a lovely story that is deeply heartwarming and inspirational.
I loved watching the characters grow. Their weaknesses and flaws made them feel real. I felt the portrayal of a child on the autistic spectrum was believable and only pray that people respond in a positive way in reality as well. Well written and engaging.
This was a nice clean story, but why must Christian story lines all ‘pretend’ to be dating. This was better than the last one I read, but why perpetuate a story around a lie.
I loved reading about Freddie and his dog, Snoopy. And, of course, Olivia and Nick. The author’s description of a child with autism was great. Nick’s love for his son and his desire to do whatever was best for him was wonderful. Olivia was a long-term substitute teacher who also wanted to do what was best for her students and for her family. Both Nick and Olivia had a past that they needed to deal with and overcome. I really enjoyed this story. I received a copy of this book from the author and was not required to write a positive review.
A Companion for His Son: An Uplifting Inspirational Romance K-9 Companion Book 25
Beautiful story telling - 5 Stars
Nate Constantine loves his son. He would do anything to give his autistic son, Freddie, a better life. Even if that means moving with Freddie and his service dog, Scobby to a small town. Olivia Bell is what every parent, of a special needs child, hopes to have in a teacher. The one that goes the extra mile, to help. Caring for a child with autism demands a lot of time and energy. You have days when you feel, overwhelmed, stressed, and discouraged. Faith, prayer and forgiveness gets you through those days.
As a mom, to an autistic son- Lee Tobin McClain, YOU NAILED IT!!!!
I loved the autism representation in this book! There are not many books that can pull off having autistic characters and still do it well. This book was awesome!
