Montana Abduction Rescue by Jodie Bailey - 3 Stars
This is part of the Mountain Country K-9 Unit series but can be read as a standalone book. I like this one for the dogs - always a fan of books with dogs and they are awesome in this one. This was a new to me author also. If you like love inspired suspense books, this will be one you enjoy. We have Ian Carpenter and Meadow Ames - along with her K-9 partner Grace. This one had lots of action because they are trying to find Ian's cousin who has been abducted. Ian was in witness protection because he had put a crime boss behind bars, but after his death, he has left the program only to run right into an ambush. Ian and Meadow work together through all of the crazy situations, falling for one another along the way.
Pretty good love inspired suspense books - don't take the 3 star to heart here because I think a 3 star for these books is pretty good. These are always quick reads and listens for me that I generally enjoy.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an audio ALC to listen to and review. All thoughts are my own.
While I have read other Inspirational Romance books by Jodie Bailey, this was the first story that I’ve read in her K-9 Unit series. Although this is book five, it was easy to read without having to go back to reference other stories. And then when I check again, I wash astonished by how quickly each book releases, but come to find out the series is from an assortment of great authors.
The dogs really stole the show or story rather in Montana Abduction Rescue. They had such great personalities. This might be the first book I’ve read where the male struggled with PTSD but the heroine, Meadow, makes up for Ian’s fears. I felt so sorry for him and his backstory. His family was horrible to him, and I almost couldn’t understand their extreme anger when he and Meadow came to ask questions that would help find his cousin. But I suppose people can just be horrible so expect to become emotionally invested. You’re in for a good amount of action and suspense throughout, so give this amazing story a chance!
I received a complimentary copy of this book, but my opinion is entirely my own.
If you’re a fan of suspenseful, faith-filled stories with rich characters, you’ll absolutely love Montana Abduction Rescue—a story where every page brings new excitement and depth. Jodie Bailey knows how to craft a tale that keeps you on the edge of your seat while tugging at your heartstrings.
In the latest Mountain Country K-9 adventure, Bailey delivers a gripping mix of suspense and bravery, with just the right touch of romance to keep you thoroughly engaged. The story features a dynamic trio of characters who face danger and challenge with both bravery and heart. Ian Carpenter, Meadow Ames, and her incredible K-9 partner, Grace, navigate intense situations that showcase their courage, strength, and determination.
I loved how Bailey seamlessly wove faith into the story. It felt natural and added a layer of hope and genuine faith to the characters' journey. Ian’s struggle with his past and feelings of unworthiness made his character relatable, and his path to redemption was deeply satisfying. Meadow is strong, determined, and someone you can root for from start to finish.
The action and suspense in this book are top-notch. There were moments I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough, eager to see what would happen next. The balance between suspense and romance is just right—enough to keep you invested in their relationship without overshadowing the intense plot. And let’s not forget the twists and turns that kept me guessing until the very end!
Despite being part of the Mountain Country K-9 series, this book stands perfectly well on its own. You don’t need to have read the others to enjoy every bit of this one. The faith elements are beautifully woven into the story, reminding us of the power of love and redemption.
Montana Abduction Rescue is a fascinating, heartwarming adventure that leaves you feeling uplifted and satisfied. Jodie Bailey has crafted a story that’s both thrilling and touching, and I can’t wait to dive into more of her work.
As a fan of Love Inspired Suspense, I found Montana Abduction Rescue to be a perfect blend of thrilling suspense and heartwarming faith. I found myself eagerly turning the pages, unable to put the book down until I finished it.
I received a digital ARC of Montana Abduction Rescue from the publisher, Harlequin - Love Inspired Suspense, and NetGalley. I am not required to write a positive review in any way or for any reason. My honest and unbiased opinions expressed in this book review are my own. My review focuses on the writing style, the pacing, and the story’s content, ensuring transparency and reliability.
Ian goes home because he thinks he is safe now that all the people he had put in jail are dead, but he isn't. So when someone tries to run him off the road and then chases him, he calls his former coworker Meadow and her K-9 Grace for help. When they meet, the danger keeps following them. Then his cousin Brooke, the one family member who cares for Ian, is kidnapped after asking him for help. Can they find her and other missing young people? Read this to find out.
The pace is breakneck and the tone is uncertain with an action and character oriented storyline that has kisses at the end only. The characters are vivid and engaging. The Christian ideal are a major part of the storyline and move the story forward. You need to read the books in this series in order.
Montana Abduction Rescue by Jodie Bailey Kidnappers out for vengeance… Can a K-9 team stop them? Following the death of a crime boss he put behind bars, Ian Carpenter leaves witness protection—and runs right into an ambush. To escape assailants bent on revenge, he turns to his former handler, US marshal Meadow Ames, and her K-9 partner. But the stakes grow higher when Ian’s cousin is abducted. With threats closing in, can they rescue a kidnapped teen…and stop the criminals for good? This is US marshal Meadow Ames and Ian Carpenter's story. “This was a colossal waste of time.” Deputy US Marshal Meadow Ames sat back in her chair and reached over her head, trying to stretch the tension from her shoulders. She’d been holed up in a conference room at the Glacierville, Montana, police department all day, hunched over computer files and physical files, studying the murder of Henry Mulder until her neck ached and her eyes burned. Across the table, Elk Valley, Wyoming, police officer Rocco Manelli dragged his hands down his face. He looked as exhausted as Meadow felt. Like Meadow, Rocky was a member of the Mountain Country K-9 Unit, composed of law enforcement officials from across several Rocky Mountain states. “I’ve chased suspects for miles on foot and not been this exhausted.” At his feet, his K-9 partner, a chocolate Lab who specialized in accelerant detection, yawned. Rocco grinned. “Even Cocoa has had enough.” He should have known this was a trap. Ian Carpenter sped down a winding back road near Glacier National Park, pushing his old reliable pickup to the limits of its capabilities as he raced to save himself from his pursuers. What was happening? The threat to his life had ended three months earlier when Ronnie Thornton died in prison, the last member of a crime family whose threats had driven Ian to take refuge in witness protection. It should have been safe for him to return to his hometown. It wasn’t. When he’d been undercover with a multiagency human-trafficking task force led by the US Marshals, Meadow had been his handler. If he ever needed her to back him up, it was now. I recommend this book. Montana Abduction Rescue by Jodie Bailey is a 4 star book. I am looking forward to reading more books by Jodie Bailey . I received a complimentary copy of the book and was under no obligation to post a review. The opinions are my own.
This was an extremely fast paced romantic suspense novel. You are taken right into action in the opening scene and you remain there the entire length of the book. Ms. Bailey does an excellent job keeping you guessing with all the twists and turns throughout the book. I couldn't put this book down until I was able to find out how it all pans out.
Wonderful characters -- I am thankful she gives just the right amount of back story and history between Meadow and Ian to lead into where they are at currently. I love stories with K9 helpers as it just fascinates me how dogs are utilized and can be trained for high intense situations like tracking, sniffing out drugs, bombs, etc. Meadow's K9 companion, Grace, is an excellent addition and character added into this story. This is not an insta-love type story, which I really like, as you see the development from the past and how it has shaped them and how it carries into the present. Although I would say the premise of the story is more on the suspense and solving of the case, you do get a good amount of chemistry and attraction that Meadow and Ian have for each other. I do love that you get to see Ian become transformed and find healing after his traumatic injury that plagued him coming into this book.
Overall, a clean romantic suspense story. Very well written....you feel like you are right there in the midst of the "chaos". I did feel the ending/conclusion was a little rushed but it didn't really take away from my enjoyment and overall satisfaction. I enjoyed the faith elements weaved within and how faith in God was encouraged and promoted in this high stress case, especially Ian recognizing that he is truly loved and is worthy of love from God. This is Book 5 in the Mountain Country K-9 Unit Series but can be read as a stand-alone novel. I can't wait for the next book!!
Thanks to NetGalley and Harlequin Love Inspired Suspense for the advanced copy of this novel. All opinions and thoughts expressed are my own.
Mountain Country K-9 Unit #5 Montana Abduction Rescue Jodie Bailey This is the 5th book in the Mountain Country K-9 Unit series however, this tale easily stands alone. This is a Christian Inspirational tale. Our main characters are Ian and Meadow. Ian Carpenter is a former undercover law enforcement officer who was wounded in the line of duty. It left him with PTSD. He went into the witness protection program after helping put a crime boss behind bars. U.S. Marshal Meadow Ames works with Grace, her K-9 partner. Ian left the witness protection program after the death of the criminal he put behind bars. However, the criminals had escaped and were lying in wait for him, as he drove the winding back road near Glacier National Park; they wanted revenge. Ian called U.S. Marshal Meadow and Grace rushed to assist him. Meadow and Officer Rocco were working on the Henry Mulder murder case when she received the call from Ian. Ian had been on his way to meet his cousin Brooke when he was ambushed. He and Meadow barely escape with their life. Brooke is the one member of Ian’s family who cares for him, and she has been kidnapped. There are several young women missing can Ian and Meadow find them before it is too late. This is a suspense/romance tale. There was an equal balance between suspense and romance. I really enjoyed it except for the narrator; her voice distracted from the tale. The plot is face paced. The dogs were wonderful and won my heart quickly. I was rooting for Ian and Meadow’s relationship. They were so obviously in love. There is a focus on Christianity in this book; I thought it was well handled. Kudos to author Jodie Bailey.
This is the fifth book in the Love Inspired ‘Mountain K-9 Unit’ multi-authored series published in July 2024. It has recently been made available in audio format much to my delight. Even though this is the fifth book, it reads well as a standalone. While there is a romantic suspense plot unique to this story, there is also an over-arcing investigation that plays out through all the books. All the authors do a great job of catching readers up on the secondary suspense plot without detracting from the primary one.
Jodie Bailey knows how to build suspense through a delectably taut plot line full of unexpected twists. The inciting incident drew me in and set the tone for the rest of the story. It was a great way to immediately get deep into the psyche of both Ian and Meadow – a kind of baptism by fire into their personalities and motivations.
They have a professional history which was cut off when Ian went into the wit-sec programme and I really enjoyed watching their relationship warily take shape amidst all the chaos and danger. I especially appreciated the unique connection they have. I don’t want to say more for fear of spoilers – let’s just say there’s some nice role reversal on stereotypical suspense plot lines.
I really enjoyed Shannon Hemmings audio narration. She brought these characters alive and her performance added to the sense of danger and emotion evident in the story.
My thanks to Harlequin Audio and Net Galley for providing me with an audio edition of this book.
Why are two people believed to be dead trying to kill Ian Carpenter? What's the cause of teenagers disappearing from the small Montana town? Can U.S. Marshall Meadow Ames and her Visla K-9 partner escape two (or more) professional killers, a tunnel full of spiders, and working with a witness she was supposed to protect?
"Montana Abduction Rescue," book 5 of Love Inspired Suspense's Mountain Country K-9 Unit is, in my opinion, the best book of the series to this point (there are three more full novels and a pair of novellas to go that I haven't read yet). The author, Jodie Bailey, did a great job of navigating us down a plot full of twists and turns and giving us two main characters that are easy to care about and great supporting characters like Grace the Visla K-9 and fellow officer Rocco (who is a scene stealer, and when the spotlight's on him ... oops, I'm getting close to giving you a spoiler!
When dealing with a multipart novel series, the question is if you need to read the books in order or if you can jump around and not feel lost in the story or have the previous stories spoiled by details of the previous stories. Typically, I would say that these collections usually are enjoyable even if you don't read in order, but this series is an exception - I think it's best to read this series as it's written.
This is the 14th Jodie Bailey novel I've read, and she's definitely one of my favorite authors. Thus, I recommend this novel for your reading.
Ian and Meadow worked together when he was an undercover police officer two years ago and she was the United States Marshal serving as his handler on a mission to end a major human trafficking ring. They both fell in love with each other, but neither one said anything. Then, he went into the witness protection program to hide from the crime family he had helped put away and broke off contact for eighteen months. Now, the last member of the crime family has died and he has come back home to see his cousin Brooke. He's thrown back together with Meadow when the bad guys they had thought were all dead or imprisoned return and are gunning for Ian. When his cousin is abducted to draw him out into the open, Ian and Meadow will have to work together with Meadow's K-9 partner, a vizsla named Grace that specializes in tracking, to rescue her. With God's help, they'll bring his cousin home and figure out how to navigate their fears and doubts about falling in love.
I liked this book and the two leads. There was a passage where Meadow is crawling through a dark ventilation shaft and the author writes about her fear of spiders that I thought was particularly well-written. The pacing for the suspense was perfect to keep me wanting to read and I stayed up much later than I should have to finish the book.
I loved K9 Grace in this book. One of my favorite scenes in the book is when Meadow has her act like a regular dog who is just a tad disobedient to throw people off suspicion during an investigation. I loved how she was instrumental in working with Ian and Meadow to keep Ian out of harm's way.
The bunker scene was excellent. Such a blend of playing on something that people are so afraid of to add to the intensity of the situation. I don't want to reveal any spoilers about what happens in there.
I felt like there was a lot of action and the scenes were full of suspense. The author did an excellent job with pacing.
This book can definitely stand alone. I have read other books in this collection but I don't think it is necessary to do that to be able to read this book. I would have liked the book to be a little bit longer just to expand on the story behind Silas and Des and Ian and Meadow. I feel like there was potential to be a two book series for these characters to fully tell the whole story.
I really enjoyed the ending. It was full of suspense and Grace helping her beloved partner. I would definitely recommend this book to my suspense lovers out there. There is romance but I would say it leans more to the suspense side.
Jodie Bailey provides a fast moving narrative filled with action, suspense, and plot twists in her novel Montana Abduction Rescue (MAR). This was my first read for this series, at first, I was worried that I might need to go back and read previous novels to understand this narrative. This was not the case. MAR functions as a stand-alone story. Meadow and her K9 partner assist Ian whose cousin has been abducted. There is a romantic vibe between Meadow and Ian; they both try to resist each other. I appreciate that Bailey writes Meadow as the heroine who helps Ian with his PTSD. The religious concept of faith is woven throughout the story. The best part of the story, for me, is the K9.
Audiobook Narrator is Shannon Hemmings. She used intonation and inflection to direct the listener's understanding. I did not mesh well with this narrator. I felt a level of agitation or excitement in her voice that made it challenging to listen for longer than 30 minutes at a time. I think this is a personal preference. I just felt anxious while listening to this narrator.
Thank you #JodieBailey, #HarlequinAudio, and #NetGalley for my audio-ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Ian Carpenter's witness protection days are over. He thinks he no longer needs it. When people intent on killing him start chasing him down, he realizes his days of running are far from over. They also know his true name. He sends a hurried text to the only person who he believes can help him - US Marshal Meadow Ames.
Ian and Meadow are on the run for their lives. Even while they are on the run, Ian is still worried about his cousin (the only member of his family who still talks to him). When his cousin is abducted, the stakes are raised and the clock starts ticking. He will stop at nothing to save her.
Ian has had a tough life with family who have ostracized him and treated him badly because he went into law enforcement. Meadow and her K-9, Grace, are the dynamic duo. Meadow is brave and fearless. She is also so good to Ian. It is touching as Meadow helps Ian as he struggles with fears and lost family. There is plenty of action and tense moments, with a touch of romance and an inspirational message.
Thank you to Harlequin Books and NetGalley for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
My review today is on the Love Inspired Suspense, Montana Abduction Rescue. This is book five in the continuity series Mountain Country K-9 Unit. This is an awesome book. It's well-written, action-packed, and full of drama. I know you are going to love it.
Ian Carpenter left Witness Protection after the death of his enemy. He only came home because his cousin called and was in trouble. Now he knows it was all a trap. He barely made it from a vehicular attack. His only hope was his ex handler. Would she have his back? Could they find his cousin?
Deputy US Marshal9 Meadow Ames and partner Grace are now a part of the Mountain Country K-9 Unit. They are investigating the Rocky Mountain Killer. They were at a dead end in the investigation and were about to move on when she got a 911 call from a man she never expected to hear from again. He is in trouble. Can she get there in time?
A terrify journey to find his abducted cousin while dodging bullets from the killers. God has a plan for these two, a plan for hope and a future. God has a plan for you too. Give him your heart and watch Him turn your life around. He only wans a relationship with you.
Montana Abduction Rescue is written by Jodie Bailey. This is part of the Mountain Country K-9 Unit series. The series is written by multiple authors but is focused on the Mountain Country K9 Unit.
Following the death of a crime boss he put behind bars, Ian Carpenter leaves witness protection. He finds himself in a predicament and reaches out to his old US Marshal, Meadow. He is shocked to see that she is in the area working a case. in the area and she has a K9 partner, Grace. Together they need to try and outsmart the two that were supposedly dead. Ian is a man of many resources - they hike their way to an underground bunker. It turns out that the human trafficking operation that Ian worked so hard undercover for.
This book is full of twists and turns - the storyline is engaging. I listened to the audiobook version - the narrator does a good job in keeping your attention.
Thank you to the author, publisher and Netgalley for allowing me to read a copy of this book - all thoughts are my own.
Put on your racing shoes and get ready for the run of your life!
Marshal Meadow Ames is hard on a case as she receives a text for help from Outsider, code name for Ian Carpenter. Ian was in witness protection from some men who were trying to enact revenge upon him. Thus the reason he had been hiding l. Two years ago, they nearly took his life from him. Circumstances have now changed and it seems safe to return to his former life. Meadows heart pings when she realizes she may get to see Ian once again. She drops everything to help, and takes her K-9 dog, Grace, to rush to Ian’s aid.
Even with changed circumstances, Ian is far from safe and now he regrets asking for Meadow’s help because he’s now placed her in danger as well. He knew returning was risky and only did because his niece has asked for his help. But before he can make contact with his niece, she is kidnapped.
Jodie Bailey the author, knows how to use the written word to build tension and suspense. You will not want to put this book down!
I really liked the characters and found their emotional past traumas to be realistic.
Highly recommended for romantic suspense readers!
The narrator, Shannon Hemmings, certainly reads this story in a manner to enhance the drama.
Montana Abduction Rescue by Jodie Bailey starts off with a bang. The story has action, suspense, mystery, faith, and a splash of romance. I love that it is a fast-paced story (makes me want to keep reading). I enjoyed getting to know Ian and Meadow as well as Meadow’s K-9 companion, Grace. Grace is a clever dog (it is amazing what K-9 dogs are capable of). I had not heard of the Hungarian breed Vizsla before reading this book (which had me looking it up online). There is one scene with Grace that had me laughing (I do not want to spoil it for you). The romance was well done. I like how it was blended with the suspense, but it did not overshadow it. Faith was nicely incorporated into the story. I did feel, though, that the ending was a tad rushed. While Montana Abduction Rescue is the fifth book in the Mountain Country K-9 Unit series, it can be read as a standalone. Montana Abduction Rescue is a suspenseful story with an alarming ambush, a clever canine, a kidnapped cousin, sinister criminals, and terrifying threats.
US Marshal Meadow Ames is working hard on a case with team when she receives a text for help from Outsider, code name for Ian Carpenter who’d been in hiding from men trying to kill him. They’d nearly been successful two years before. She drops everything to help and takes her K-9 dog, Grace, to rush to Ian’s aid.
Ian Carpenter regrets asking for Meadow’s aid because he’s now placed her in danger. He wouldn’t have risked returning except that his niece has asked for his help. But before he can talk to his niece, she is kidnapped.
This author is a master at building suspense. I can barely turn pages fast enough. I couldn’t put the book down!
The characters were likeable and their emotional past trauma is believable. I was drawn into their plight from the first page. The story gripped me and didn’t let go.

I have to admit I was drawn to this story because of the cover. Although I am a big thriller fan I do like a nice sweet romance and one with a Christian base is rare in this spicy romance world. SO yes I did enjoy it!
Want to thank NetGalley and Harlequin Audio/Love Inspired Suspense for this audiobook. Audiobook Publishing Release Date scheduled for April 1, 2025.
Fast paced action packed page turner. I have not read all the books in the Mountain Country K-9 series, and was not lost. This can be read as a stand alone with no problems. Ian (former Sheriff) Meadow (FBI, and former handler of Ian for an undercover mission) work well together, their strengths and weakness complement each other. Grace (K9) warms everyone's heart :) Faith is woven inherently with a light touch. Love Inspired Suspense series is light on the romance is light and quick on the HEA at the end. The mystery and suspense were top notch and provided an enjoyable read. Thank you for the opportunity to read early and share my thoughts and opinions. #MontanaAbductionRescue #MountainCountryK9 #JodieBailey #Harlequin #LoveInspiredSuspense #NetGalley
Ian is released from Witness Protection when the crime boss that he put away is reported dead, but the danger is far from over.
When his cousin is taken, he knows that is must have something to do with the previous case, so he contacts his former handler, Meadow Ames, and together they must fight to bring Ian's cousin home.
An action packed read, with a complex plot, strong characters and a lot going on. I liked the great plot, and strong themes of faith woven throughout. Definitely a fun read, with some will they or won't they tension.
Overall, a great quick read with plenty going on, and heart pounding suspense.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I enjoyed this book. It moved along fast, lots of suspense and light romance. There's also an undercurrent of Christian theme, but not so much that it is offputting.
Ian has PTSD from being shot in the incident that wound up separating he and Meadow. But when his and his cousin's lives are in danger, he turns to Meadow to help him. Meadow and her human and K-9 partners jump into the help, putting their lives in danger as well. There's a romantic pull between Meadow and Ian that they keep pushing away, but will they eventually give into the impulse?
Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book, by my opinions are my own.
Ian was in witness protection when he gets ambushed by people looking for revenge. US Marshall Meadow was his handler when he reaches out for help once again. This time his cousins been kidnapped and they do everything they can to get her back but also remain safe.
This was a pretty good book. There was so much going on getting to know a bit about the two and why Ian was in witness protection. Meadow has his handler and helping him keep safe but now it's a entirely new and old situation with his cousin going missing a dog being pregnant leaving them with higher stakes and where the connection was to the past. I loved following along as they worked together to find them and I liked the bit of romance that was thrown in. Overall pretty good time now book I really enjoyed it.
Montana Abduction Rescue by Jodie Bailey is the 5th book in the Mountain County K-9 unit. Ian Carpenter is finally released from witness protection earlier in the year and decides to come home because his cousin needs him. Meadow Ames ands her K-9 Grace cons to his aide. They knew each other while on the case that got Ian shot and into the witness protection program. Now trying to find his cousin who has been kidnapped by the men who were supposedly dead and keep trying to kill him. Very action packed with suspense, second chance romance and a quick read. These are fun to read. Thank you to #NetGalley, #Harlequin audio, and the author for this arc book. This was narrated by Shannon Hemmings. She did a great job. Releases April 1
The Mountain Country K-9 Unit series are all stand alone books, each writen by a different author, each featuring a K-9 team in the story. All are good, clean stories full of suspense and thrills enough to keep readers hooked on the story and the series. Jodie Bailey has given us a former witness protection resident who broke protection when the mobster he helped convict, died in prison. But Ian Carpenter is still not safe from revenge. Now the individuals chasing him have taken a family member hostage. Ian and his US Marshall contact, Meadow Ames and her K-9, Grace, will face down the danger to bring Ian's family back together.
The action in this story starts out quickly with Ian being shot at and chased by people he thought were dead. In a panic, he calls his witness protection handler Meadow and she comes to his rescue. They have to join forces to figure out what is going on and why his cousin Brooke has been kidnapped. It is a fast paced book with well developed characters. I listened to the audio and while the narrator has a good voice, it is my preference that the male and female voices sound different. It's just a personal opinion. It does have a Christian theme running through it, but it is not preachy so it should appeal to everyone. Its a good story that has a complex but satisfying ending.
