One reckless decision, and the future I was bred for is ripped to shreds.
I should be taking my rightful place among the Ton, draped in the finest silks and planning extravagant balls fit for the Duchess I was poised to be.
Not spreading my legs for any man with enough coin to afford the pleasure. But to protect my family, I will bear whatever pain, whatever humiliation my newest patron demands of me.
If my body aches for his punishing touch, if my very soul cries out for him in the dark, that is my own private shame. For our love is worse than indecent. The truth of my identity, of our devotion to each other, is a scandal that would rock the ton.
And bring ruin upon both our houses.
Seven Omegas for Seven Alphas is a dark omegaverse set in a world where title and rank is determined by dynamic rather than birth and where sweet little omegas are the belle of every ball.
(previously published as A Tale of Two Dukes. The content is the same. The title is different.)
Vivian is a sassy romance writer that likes to brat just as much as she writes. As a fly-by-the-seat-of-her-pants author, she's usually working furiously into the night when her creative juices hit her the hardest. Her books like to take you to the dark side and force you to dip your toes in, but don't drown you. She loves writing alphaholes, anti-heroes, and heroes you just love to hate. She likes to try out everything she's putting her heroines through, so the phrase “for science” is used in her house a lot! When she's not writing, you can probably find her playing Animal Crossing or tormenting her cats and Husdom.

Should I read in order? You should just because book 1 is a favorite of mine! But I think you are okay picking this one up alone if you’d like.
Basic plot: Kitty is at her lowest point – desperate to find some form of security and protect her family she arrives on the door step of a brothel and is soon found by William.
Give this a try if you want: - Regency time period - omegaverse (see notes below) - heroine is the daughter of an Earl turned brothel worker/mistress - you’re okay with some dark elements, kink, and dubious consent - Duke hero - instalove/lust - jealous hero - secret identity - higher steam – 8+ scenes (the first scene takes up most of the first ¼ of the book) with kink elements (bondage, flogging, exhibitionism, praise, biting, wax play, sadism, knife play – I combined some scenes together because they were close together
First lines: Terror. It’s a nameless dread hovering on my lips.
My thoughts: The book starts with a lovely map of AR Regency England, list of all the Dukes and a character tree - I love those special little touches!
This novel is an almost instant burn with William and Kitty getting hot on the page soon after they meet. There’s more elements of danger and mystery in this one compared to book 1. It keeps you on your toes until the angsty ending culmination.
I loved book 1 of this series, so SO much I will admit it’s going to be near impossible to beat. I personally prefer a steamy slower burn to instalust so this one didn’t quite have the tension that book 1 had for me. But I still had such a fun time reading this and was very curious about the dark elements at play that were holding the heroine hostage.
The steamy scenes are quite fantastic – detailed and long, explicit but also emotional. And they really progress their relationship along in this novel. Some of the scenes went a touch into a level of debasement that isn’t my favorite but I still was happy to explore this even if it was a bit out of my comfort zone.
I felt like there was a lot of the hero’s perspective in this one and I always love that! I could have used a touch more character depth for them both, especially the heroine - I was quite curious about her family.
I knew a bit more what to expect from the omegaverse society style (this series was my first experience!) and this won’t be for everyone (it’s based on an alpha, beta, omega construct) – if you’re curious I have some details about it below in a spoiler warning.

Full break down on what my ratings above mean here: Overall: How I felt about it everything considered! Readability: How ‘readable’ was the book? Did I fly through it? Did I have to tell myself to pick it back up repeatedly? Wer e any passages confusing? Feels: Totally subjective to each person but did the book give me any tingles? Any butterflies? Did it rip my heart out (in a good way?) Emotional depth: How well do I feel I know the characters at the end? How much did I feel their emotions throughout the story? Sexual tension: Again, subjective, but how strong was the wanting and longing to me between the characters? A book might have strong sexual tension without a single touch. Romance: Was there romance? Did romantic things happen? This can be actions/words/thoughts of the characters and again is subjective. Sensuality: This is how the intimate scenes are written. Kisses and sexual scenes – how sensual were they? Were they on the mechanical side? Was there emotional pull tied in? Were the details explicit or flowery? These are subjective but generally (1) too short to get a good judgement (2) not all what I'm looking for - very vague or flowery prose (3) either not explicit enough or not enough emotional pull (too mechanical/physically descriptive without the emotions) (4) what I love in a scene (5) absolute perfection - perfect balance of emotional longing and explicit descriptions Sex Scene Length: How long the bedroom scenes are (generally (1) is 1-3 sentences (2) is a few paragraphs to a page-ish (3) is about average, a few pages (4) more well developed scenes, quite a few pages with descriptions (4) the majority of the book takes place in the bedroom. This is always hard to tell for me on audio! Steam Scale: Generally, each flame is a scene. If scenes are super close together I sometimes combine them. If a scene is super short or so vague I don’t know what’s happening, I don’t count it. There’s some levels of grey but generally the number of flames is how many sex scenes there are (I max out at 5 so I’ll put a + after if there’s more than that)
After Robert and Emma’s story,i discovered i hadn’t updated his brother William and Catherine’s story. Which is a crying shame, because their story gave me all the feels!
I cried for Kitty, when she felt forced to flee her home to keep her mother and sister safe, only to end up at a brothel. And to make matters even worse, she felt forced to sell her virginity that same night in order to be able to stay at the place…. Then, she found she was taken to become William’s mistress, because he felt possessive of her. And when she started to have feelings for him,she despaired, because as a fallen woman, she could never marry him. To top all that misery, she still was being blackmailed, and couldn’t tell anyone what was going on if she wanted to continue keeping her mother and sister safe.
William may have been a sadist, but he was such a sweetheart with his kitten when he wasn’t “torturing” her! From the moment he saw her,he felt a need to protect, keep and possess her. And even though ne knew she was keeping secrets,he never cast her out. Instead,he claimed her and after finding out what she’d been through,he did his best to solve her problems. He defended her against his brother Robert’s coldhearted judgment. He protected her as much as he could against that bastard Hugh. He even thought of ways he could marry her….
And then there was the madman Hugh that blackmailed Kitty…..if i could’ve gutted him,i would’ve. The damage he did,the pain he caused…..i hated that man with a vengeance! Knowing he promised to harm her mother and sister if she didn’t do as he wanted. And later, the fact that he promised to set William up as a traitor…..
After i finished,i know i needed more than a minute to nurse my aching heart. Thankfully, the fact that these two lovers were reunited and happy, helped a lot.
Every book in this series just gets better and better! I rarely read historical romance anymore but when it comes to this series I am completely hooked! Each story line is so unique and compelling while still managing to perfectly meld omegaverse and historical romance together.
Kitty is on the run, willing to sacr!f!ce all she has (including her good name and virtue) if it means her family will be safe. When all seems lost, she's claimed (very publicly 😈) by William, a man who sets her body af|ame in more ways than one 🥵. She cant f!ght the pull she has towards him and I can' blame her. He's such a perfect combination of protective and p0ss€ssive with a dev!ant side that will melt your kindle. 🫠
From the moment, William sees Kitty, he knows she's meant to be his. Unfortunately, the circumstances (and location) in which he meets Kitty creates an obstacle that makes you question how these two will get their HEA. What follows is a story of lies, r€venge, love and |u$t that will keep you on your toes. Their path to a HEA is far from an easy one, but there's nothing William won't do to protect Kitty and have her permanently at his side where she belongs. 😍
Great Read Such and original storyline, bringing omegaverse and a bit of historical romance together. I thought we got a bit of everything in this book. Filled with emotions, lots of spice, suspense and so much more!! Kitty and William had great chemistry and the steam between them was so good!! Overall, I really enjoyed it!
Another amazing addition to this series, I’m impatiently waiting for the next book. Vivian has such an amazing style of writing and I can not get enough. This book focuses on Kitty and William and they are absolutely phenomenal together. They compliment each other surprisingly well considering how they meet.
Kitty is extremely loyal which is how she finds herself in her current predicament. William is instantly drawn to Kitty, and while he should be looking for a respectable wife he can’t seem to stay away from her.
He’s recently been given the title of Duke and while he’s not necessarily protesting his new title, he’s not exactly in support of it either. He’s doing what he should be begrudgingly. Kitty does not necessarily fit into his new life but he’s willing to make exceptions, even if it upsets his family and closest friends.
Kitty’s situation is precarious, she soon finds herself at the mercy of a very dangerous man, one seeking vengeance for his family’s misfortunes. She’s willing to do anything to keep those she loves safe even if it means living a lie.
This story is full of passion, spice, forbidden love, secrets, and did I mention spice. I absolutely love all of her work, this series might be my favorite one yet but I say that with all of her series.
🔥Historical Omegaverse 🕯️Public Scene 👀 🔥BD$M 🕯️Suspense 🔥Forbidden Love
It’s official. Vivian has given us the perfect historical romance series! Each one has gotten spicier, deeper, and addicting!
This book kept me hooked wondering how everything was possibly going to work out, and I was head over heels for the two main characters. “Kitty” is a runaway, trying to escape a terrible threat and find a way to survive when she is put out for auction by the Madame.
William is entranced as soon as he sees her and nothing will stop him from having exactly what he wants, especially not the other man that has her cornered…. 👀😈
The spicy scenes were done exceptionally well and I loved watching these two fall in lust and in love with eachother! The chemistry is there from the instant they meet and grows as the story continues 🔥
'A Tale of Two Dukes' is the first book in Vivian Murdoch's "Seven Omegas for Seven Alphas" that I've read and I wasn't prepared for the delivery I received. Since I'm one of the few people I know who had no idea about any of the details in this storyline, such as the drama, suspense, and my preconceived idea of what I was going to read being thrown out the window, I was blown away! Catherine, aka Kitty, is put in a position where she felt the only option available to her was to leave home in order to protect her family. That decision lands her at the Rose and Thorne, a whipping house. There's BDSM, Omegaverse, passion, obsession, jealousy, danger, intrigue, and of course, there is love. This was truly a wonderful read. One that has me wanting to backtrack and read the first two books in the series.
A Tale of Two Dukes brings you all the all the delicious Regency Era Dark Omega, Knotting and spicy goodness you have come to expect from Author Murdoch.
In this installment of Seven Omegas for Seven Alphas, (can also be a standalone…) you meet Kitty(mystery burrito wrapped in secret sauce) and William Beaufort ….and no spoilers.
This book is full of twisted moments, romance, seduction and BDSM.
Did I mention the ***SPICE***? Vivian Murdoch does plunge the reader STRAIGHT into the surrounding, enchanting world. There is a witty sense of humor throughout the book and the ending is explosive.
If you are a massive spice fan, knotting reader (or have curiosity), love feels and an HEA with feels along the way….this is PERFECT for you!
Extremely well written, fast paced, full of steamy scenes, revenge, romance, secrets, drama, great storyline/plot, does have a dark side kinky BDSM scenes. May not be for everyone. This is another book in this series- they themselves are also really fabulous reads. William and Kitty , have the best chemistry, steam and emotions between them. Kitty runs away to save her family and ends up in the Rose and Thorne to work or hide. William finds her there and decides to show her the darker side of him and takes her there. He finds that she has what he needs. They become an item and solve a problem of how they find a way to get their happily ever after. What a great book , can't wait for the next one. Would recommend this book to all. I am an ARC and leave this unbiased, honest review.
This series combines two romance sub-genres that are not typically put together -- Omegaverse and Regency. And, wow, the author combines them wonderfully.
This book pulls in all sorts of tropes -- the lady hiding as a prostitute, twin evil brothers, kidnapping, peril, a race against time, and (a classic in Regency Romance) an anvil wedding. Really great stuff. The first half of the book is a slow (sometimes quite slow) build-up as Catherine is finally forced, through the Alpha bond, to reveal her secrets to William. And then the last half is a high-speed race against time.
And then, sure, HEA.
The exposition of the alpha bond and the omega heat were well done.
FMC runs away from home, ends up at the bdsm London brothel from previous book. she applies for a "job" and then the Duke takes up with her and buys her. While out on the floor, she meets the look alike of her now deceased fiance - his unknown twin brother. He seems revenge as he thinks she was responsible for his death.
Except it was the Duke - who now was given that title and lands as a reward.
Duke buys her and makes her his mistress. Eventually he bites her. Then the bad guy kidnaps her. They all race to Gretna, where they duel, bad guy dies, then they marry.
Duke spreads rumor that they were already married and the deflowering in public at the club was a special treat for her.
his thing is wax play. plus bandage and spanking.

Although I am not normally a historical romance reader, I love Vivian Murdoch stories and jumped at the chance to read this one. It was a great read that was very heavy on the spiciness and contained many tropes that I love including omegaverse, BDSM, suspense, and a lot of action. It grabbed my attention from the beginning. Can't wait to read the rest of the books in this series. I received a review copy of this book and am leaving a voluntary honest review
No slow burns here Reviewed in the United States on July 31, 2023 Welll, we jumped right into the shenanigans with this one didn’t we?!? No complaints from me because Ms Murdoch surreeee knows how to grab your attn and keep you sucked in. I loved this book so much, which I say for every book but they just keep getting better and better! Trust me, get yourself immersed in this series, you will not regret it!
I'm not usualy into historical romance but this one caught me just reading the blurb and I really enjoyed all the twists in the story. A historical romance in an alternate reality with omegaverse elements, with misunderstandings, betrayal and deception in the path of a hopeless omega and a dominant alpha. And steam, lots of steam. I recomend it!
I loved William and Kitty's story. It's a dark and delicious blend of the historical romance, the trope that attracted me to romance books, and Omegaverse. I got sucked in from the first page, and stayed that way until the end. Kitty and William are fantastic characters that have explosive chemistry and the steamy scenes are amazing. I'm ready for the next one!
This book is a regency romance that is darker than expected but so readable. The main characters William and Kitty (Catherine), provide us with a story that is steamy, omegaverse with Bdsm and of course passion and love. Add in the danger, intrigue and jealousy and Vivian Murdoch again delivers a book with a bit of all emotion, giving the reader an original, dark but romantic read. 3 1/2 to 4
A Regency Omegaverse on the dark side by Vivian Murdoch is another wonderful book by an amazing author. Hot, spicy, and full of complex characters and twisting plot. A great addition to the series Seven Omegas for Seven Alphas. It will trod on your emotions while feeding you suspense, romance, intimate, and kinky scenes.
This is an OmegaVerse Historical and I thought it was terrific. If you like the combination like I do, you will really enjoy this one. Lots of Smutty action and some danger as well. I loved the characters and I am looking forward to more by this writer. Nice HEA at the end.
My first Vivian Murdoch, but it will not be my last! WOW that was hot! And surprisingly romantic, and hot, and unusual (to me at least, not used to this alpha/omega dynamics), and hot! William is the stuff of dreams and I love a foul-mouthed villain. I lapped it all up. I thoroughly recommend it.
This series keep on getting better. I enjoyed reading A Tale of two Dukes. Kitty and William were such an amazing couple. The plot was intriguing with some twists.
A super sexy story of a very Alpha Duke and his very sweet but courageous Omega. Nothing comes easy for them but love triumphs all. A joyful must read.
A Tale of Two Dukes by Vivian Murdoch is the spiciest book out of this series, and I loved it so much. This book is a Regency Omegaverse and can be a little dark on certain subject matters. Please read her warning at the beginning. The characters were well-written, complex, and had scorchingly hot chemistry. I loved the ups and downs, twists and turns, and the spice was through the roof. The world that Vivian Murdoch has created is deliciously dark and tantalizing. The mystery, action, and anticipation were nail-biting. My heart dipped and flipped throughout this whole book. I loved the angst and longing I felt with both of these characters.
I loved Kitty in this book. She is strong, determined, and fierce. I felt so bad for the circumstances she was dealing with. William is a dark, broody Alpha. He was possessive and a little obsessed with Kitty. I loved their chemistry most of all. My heart broke for Kitty multiple times, and I loved how she picked herself up each time. William was loyal and determined when it came to getting what he wanted.
I loved the mystery and spice in this book. Vivian Murdoch never lets me down in those areas and will have me reading the book in one night to see what happens next.
Our dear Kitty, a highborn lady on the run, is in a house of ill repute because of a horrible situation threatening her family. William sees her and absolutely has to have her. I love their dynamic, she wants to trust him and give him control because the moment he's near, he calms her inner turmoil. They make a lovely couple and fall so deeply in love with each other. There are so many dark plots going on in this book; mystery, intrigue, revenge, secrets, it was just such a rollercoaster ride, but I love how it ended.
Amazing combination of historical romance and Omegaverse. Lady Catherine Giles has found herself in a precarious situation and William Dowding, Duke of Birchleigh has come to save her from that threat. Loved these characters, intrigued by their circumstances and the bond between them made it impossible to put down. Part of Seven Omegas for Seven Alphas Darkverse series but can be read as standalone.
This is my first experience reading a book that involves the Omegaverse (see other reviews where this is explained), and I found it very interesting and engaging. The story centres on Kitty (Catherine) daughter to an Earl who must flee her home due to some threat that's been made against her family. I didn't feel like this part was explained in enough detail to justify this prim innocent going to a brothel specializing in BDSM to protect her family. It is at this brothel that she meets William, Duke of Birchleigh who is smitten with her from his first sighting of her. She responds to him in kind and the instalust results in Catherine becoming his mistress. There is a sub-plot involving the threat that was at the root of Catherine's running away from home. The villain of the story is truly reprehensible. Readers should read trigger warnings to ascertain if this is the book for them.
I liked the way the book wove the Omegaverse elements into the historical romance. I haven't read the previous books in this series, and although this novel worked as a standalone, readers who've read the preceding books will likely understand the secondary characters better. I found the orginal and steamy scenes well done. There were certainly a lot of them, but there was sufficient plot as well. I liked both the main characters, although I would've liked to learn more about Catherine and her family. William is a typical Alpha hero (with added characteristics related to the Omegaverse), and he and Catherine seemed well matched. I liked William better before he became completely besotted. I have a hard time when an Alpha-hole turns into a cinammon role hero. The kind of transformation seems a bit forced and unrealistic. Sure, he falls in love, but it shouldn't completely change his personality. What I didn't like as much was the writing style. I have a hard time with overly effusive and exaggerated prose, and there's quite a bit of here. However, the story makes up for it.
Overall, a good read, and it definitely didn't bore me! Recommend to readers looking for high steam, a step into a different fictional world, and who enjoy a bit of intrigue with their romance.
