Get ready to be whisked away to the magical village of Midnight as romance casts its spell on you with this summer’s hottest love story…
Iris McKenzie is on a mission – her scheming ex-boyfriend stole her grandmother’s locket and she’ll do anything to get it back, even using the magic she’s always kept hidden. But what she isn’t prepared for is competition…
Lynx Oakwood has been tasked with recovering the same locket and along with his fellow witches from the magical village of Midnight, Lynx believes the locket holds great powers that could be dangerous in the wrong hands.
Both are determined to take the locket, but neither is prepared for meeting their match. For not only is the connection between them electric, but with Iris’s ability to see into the future she can foresee a blissful destiny with Lynx she isn’t prepared for. So when Iris’s pursuit of the locket leads her to the charming village of Midnight, she does everything she can to avoid the future that’s mapped out for her. But the more time Iris spends living amongst magical people freely enjoying their powers, the more she feels she belongs, and the harder it gets to stop her heart falling for Lynx.
Holly lives in a little white cottage by the sea. She studied media at university which led to a very glitzy career as a hotel receptionist followed by a even more glamorous two years working in a bank. The moment that one of her colleagues received the much coveted carriage clock for fifteen years’ service was the moment when she knew she had to escape. She quit her job and returned to university to train to be a teacher. Three years later, she emerged wide eyed and terrified that she now had responsibility for the development of thirty young minds. She taught for four years and then escaped the classroom to teach history workshops, dressing up as a Viking one day and an Egyptian High Priestess the next. But the long journeys around the UK and many hours sat on the M25 gave her a lot of time to plan out her stories and she now writes full time, doing what she loves.
Holly has been writing for 8 years. She was shortlisted for the New Talent Award at the Festival of Romance. Her short story won the Sunlounger competition and was published in the Sunlounger anthology. She won the Carina Valentine’s competition at the Festival of Romance with her novel The Guestbook. She was shortlisted for Best Romantic Read, Best eBook and Innovation in Romantic Fiction at the Festival of Romance. She is the bestselling author of 26 books selling over a million books worldwide. Holly's books have been translated into French, German, Italian, Dutch, Bulgarian, Estonian, Turkish and Russian.
Book 2 in The Midnight Village books and this time there are more witchy goings on, more talking animals and even some spice.
Iris was a wonderful character and being half witch and half kelpie brought something new. Kelpie’s are often solitary so how will she and her nan react to being in a village where everyone knows everything, sometimes even before it happens and how will the community react to having kelpies living alongside them?
Then there is the love interest Lynx, pure fire to Iris’s water and I couldn’t think of anyone more suited to show her how to trust again and that not all men are as slimey as her dastardly ex. Trust me when I say the revenge scene was pure magic and it had me wondering what horrible things I could come up with.
Oh how I would love to spend a day in Midnight, visiting all the magical shops and possibly introduce Viktor the talking cat to my very own Percy Mayhem. I bet they would get up to all sorts of mischief.
All I need now is a spell to make sure Holly writes a book for Storm, he deserves a love story.
I absolutely loved the first book in this series so knew I had to give this one a read too! This book is the perfect mix of fantasy, romance and comedy and I would absolutely recommend to everyone. Not only do we get to see Lynx and Iris’ relationship blossom but, we also get to revisit Wolf, Star and many other characters from the first book. Would absolutely love another book to add to this series🙏
A lovely second instalment to the ‘Midnight village’ books. I was actually really reluctant to read this as I didn’t anticipate the second book to be as good as the first, and I honestly loved the first, but this follow up story was SO original. I absolutely loved the mix of folklore in this book, and felt like I learned a lot about ancient stories of sea creatures. I loved that both characters were lightly introduced in the first book but the rest was so standalone that honestly, I was more than happy to take back my initial thoughts before starting the read and admit that this was an amazing read.
I’ve waited impatiently for this hotly anticipated sequel to The Midnight Village and can honestly say that the wait was well worth it, even though it was agony to know it was on my kindle, but I had to be patient. Returning to Midnight was a special treat, and I am delighted to share my review. Iris is a more complex character than simply a witch. She has powers that are often viewed as untrustworthy. I won’t go into detail as I would hate to reveal a spoiler, but be assured that her heart is pure, and she wants nothing more than to restore her grandmother’s happiness. We met Lynx on our last visit to Midnight, and I already knew that I would enjoy getting to know more about him. He certainly shares many of his brother Wolf’s gorgeous attributes, including his looks and personality. What has been the biggest surprise to them both is that since Wolf met and fell in love with Star, Lynx was now prepared to settle down himself. We still have Viktor, the cat, and meet Morag, the fox. Their banter is one of the fun parts of this book, and I loved reading their exchanges, which were laced with sarcasm and lots of fun. There are some familiar characters, but each is introduced in a way that wouldn’t leave you at a disadvantage if you had not read the first book. There is the added drama of the secrets of the locket and the spectre of Iris’s thieving ex-boyfriend, who is not prepared to lose out on the perceived value of the locket. At the story's heart is the gentle and respectful romance that blossoms between Iris and Lynx. I loved how Lynx was patient and respectful of how nervous Iris felt about some of the premonitions she’d had. They weren’t scary unless you had no intention of settling down and raising a family. Iris was definitely not in the market for her happily ever after! Holly Martin has done it again; I loved everything about this book. I’m unsure if there’s another instalment planned, but I would be thrilled either way. If it is the conclusion, it’s a lovely ending that could easily be revisited. However, I do love a series…
Ever since I finished the first book set in Midnight ad Holly Martin's world of witches, I have been impatiently waiting for the next book.
Well it was worth the wait, another completely addictive, easy to read, totally compelling story in this series.
With Iris and Lynx being the main characters. For those new to this world we get a fabulous refresher of not only how Midnight works, with some familiar villagers popping up again, but also due to Iris' circumstance a whole lot more world building about not just witches but another magic using being too.
I would have loved to buy Iris' jewellery it sounded so pretty and I could visualise it clearly.
And the descriptions of witch sex still sound magical and something I wish I could experience for myself
I adore this magical world and this particular story was brilliant, as I have come to expect from the author. And I think it may have sowed the seeds for another book, so I have my everything crossed that there will be a book 3 at some point.
This is a series I would be happy to see running for a long time, it has totally enchanted me.
Thank you to the author for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
I loved the first book in this series and loved this one, too. A mix of magical fantasy, romance, and comedy; it's a great combination.
Set in a magical village, the residents are free to use their magic openly, something that Iris can not do where she lives at the moment.
Iris and Lynx Oakwood meet at a London auction where a locket, which belonged to Iris's grandmother, is up for sale. It was stolen by an unscrupulous ex-boyfriend of Iris's. It's imperative Iris get the locket back, and Lynx needs to buy the locket as he believes the magical powers are dangerous, his job is to find dark magic items and keep them safe in the village.Iris steals the locket, which is when she and Lynx meet, and it's instant chemistry between them.
Whilst both books are standalone stories, to preserve continuity, it's best to read them in order of publication as there are characters in the second book who are the main characters in the first.
I really hope there's another book in this great series. If you like a mix of magical fantasy, romance, and comedy, then this is a book for you. There are some great one-liners in this book!
I absolutely loved The Midnight Village (not to mention all of Holly Martin’s other books), so I was thrilled to get my hands on Meet Me at Midnight.
I loved reading this book, it was great fun. I loved Iris and Lynx, and how they worked together to sort things out.
I love the setting too. The village of Midnight is such a great location, I love the idea of a village full of witches who are then free to do their magic with no non-magical people around to see. It all feels surprisingly real! I love the sense of community and all the different kinds of magic. The other location in Scotland was also beautiful and magical too.
The romance was lovely too. I can totally understand the way Iris feels when she has her premonition, but I did enjoy watching Lynx and her work it out.
Overall, this was another magical romance in my favourite setting. I can’t wait to read the next one.
I was given a copy of this book, my opinions are my own.
I loved the first book in the Midnight Village series so much and I was really excited to see what happens next. Holly Martin has always been an author whose books I enjoy, and this one did not disappoint!
Meet Me at Midnight was a charming, fun, and sweet read. Iris and Lynx felt their connection from the first time they met, and they were perfect for one another. It was sweet seeing them figure out their future together and how all in each of them was. They were genuinely kind and likeable characters who were easy to love.
I love reading about all the magic and the little village of Midnight. There are so many great details and everything is so well thought out. I am so looking forward to the next book in the series already!
Thank you to the author for providing an ARC for an honest review.
Get whisked away to Midnight, the mystical village full of magic. I adore Holly's writing and this book did not disappoint. I loved the witchcraft, talking animals, the adorable village life. Holly has a way of totally transporting you to a different place with her books and Midnight is most definitely a place I wish I could visit!
The playfulness of the characters, Lynx and Iris, from the very first chapter had me smiling goofily. They were cheeky and sexy and so damn cute together. Who doesn't love the idea of being fated to be with your soul mate? Even better when the two represent fire and ice, making for a combustible matching! I loved re-visiting Star and Wolf too, and getting to know even more new characters.
Highly recommend you read this series in order. Cannot wait for the next instalment!
Another brilliant book from Holly Martin. This is the second 'Midnight' book but can be read as a stand alone. However, I would recommend that you read the first book, 'The midnight Village ' before this one to get the most out of it. It's a book about witches, talking animals and a nice bit of sex thrown in too. I thoroughly enjoy Holly's books and this one is no exception. Some great characters, especially the hunky men! I do hope that there is a third book about Erin and Storm as it would be great to hear their story. I've read this in one day as I was enjoying it so much. Uplifting and parts had me laughing, especially some of the grandmothers language. This book has me hooked from the first page so be aware you may well be drawn in too.
The writing style is fine but following off book 1 in the series it's so dull as so much is the same repackaged content. Fighting against fate, thinking about how perfect the other part of their couple is, talking about sex/getting told to have sex by grandma, being protected by the male hero, more fighting fate, thinking about how perfect the other part of their couple is.... looking into each others eyes and knowing their do perfect for each other (I prefer the show rather than tell approach). Both books also have very little action (as in action hero action not 'spice') and all the sex is so vanilla...I'm not after 50 shades of grey (never read it!) but I'd rather have less mention of romance (feels like 80% of book??!!) and savour it than feel like the boy in Matilda trying to swallow a whole chocolate cake!
I had waited a while for this one to come out, but gotta say I didn’t love it as much as the first book. The love story was Lacking something. They just sort of got together. Quickly. I think the whole story takes place over a week, at most. Maybe even more like 4 days.
Still, this is the kind of book I gravitate too. Witchy-Gilmore Girl Esq!
"Meet Me at Midnight" by Holly Martin delivers the author’s signature magical and cosy charm, but this time with literal magic woven into the story. I adored it even more than the first book; the plot and world-building were enchanting. The beautifully crafted romantic elements left me eager for a third instalment. Fingers crossed for next year—there are many delightful hints about which couple might take centre stage! It's a heartwarming, spellbinding read (pun intended).
DNF at 42%. I didn't read the first book in the series, so I might be missing some crucial context, and I was enjoying the descriptions of magic and the magic community, but the character behavior is oscillating between insufferably childish and completely unnatural, and I can no longer summon any interest in their futures. The level of silliness in the story is also beyond my tolerance threshold.
A witchy magical story that I couldn't put down. The spark between Iris and Lynx was instant and watching it develop was so good. Midnight is such a fabulous village. It's good to get to know the other characters too. I love Holly’s funny, romantic, sexy style with added magical extras! I really enjoyed this a lot, and the magic makes it all the more special.
Read this in a day! I loved this book. The characters were great and I really couldn't put it down. I liked how it played out a little differently towards the end to Holly's usual style. My only complaint is it does ends without the usual epilogue. But maybe there will be another book where we find out more? I also loved how Star and Wolf appeared a lot so you also got to catch up with them. And VicTOR of course. Sassy as always.
Another lovely, charming book about the village of Midnight and the magical folk who live there. This time the new arrivals to the village are aware of their magic, but need a safe haven. There is romance, lots of magic, bags of charm, laughter and now there are 2 talking creatures - each equally capable of their share of snarky comebacks! There were hints of a future romance, so I really hope there will be a return to Midnight soon.
Oh my holly where to begin..... I really enjoyed this book.. it had me happy and then crying in one part. I love how the story evolved around lynx and iris and what was going on around them not just their love for each other. I'm so glad it had a fun and happy ending.
I’m an avid fan of Hollys books but these ones were so different. They were exciting as well as having the usual love story. The characters were so dynamic and the setting unusual but the storyline was so well written. Definitely my favourite Holly Martin books
This was such a brilliant witchy romance. The perfect about of magic, without being too overwhelming, and the perfect amount of romance to allow space for the plot. This felt a bit different to Holly’s other books, with the element of crime but it worked so well!
I absolutely loved this story, Holly has yet again written a book that draws you in and makes you feel part of the story. Hopefully, there'll be more midnight books soon xx
The connection between Iris and Lynx is wonderful. It truly depicts the connection between soul mates. I actually hated to see the story end. And what about Erin and Storm? I would love to see a story about them.
The second visit to the bridging village of Midnight, and it didn't disappoint. An enchanting, moving and romantic read. It will bring laughter and tears, and is truly magical. Although the second in the series, it can be read as a stand alone.
What a great book Holly Martin is so wonderful I have read every book she has written and I have really enjoyed reading them this one is full of love and magic ❤️
I am obsessed with this series! Didn’t think the second one could be as good as the first but it was even better. Magical charm and whimsy, romance and even some spice in this one, humour, and a wonderful heartwarming story.
