I lost everything because of him. He says he would give anything to get me back.
Once upon a time I had it all: an Olympic gold medal, a career as a professional ski racer, and a happily ever after so close I could almost touch it. Then, my perfect life imploded in one tragic weekend.
Five years later, I've rebuilt my life with the best girlfriends, the perfect new boyfriend, and a new career. Now my ex—the one who wrecked everything five years earlier—is back as the newest member of the national ski team, and I'm forced to be his physical therapist.
My days are filled with him. He's constantly shirtless, and sweaty, and sexy as sin, and trying to make me fall in love with him again.
But I built these walls around my heart for a reason—and his presence is threatening to undo everything I've created without him. With the stakes this high and the sexual tension this hot, this could all go so very wrong.
Or, maybe we're on the edge of getting everything we ever wanted.
On the Edge contains globe-trotting to ski destinations, powerful female friendships, athletes with ridiculous bodies, a strong heroine determined never to have her heart broken again, and an even stronger hero willing to do whatever it takes to earn back the love of his life. It's a steamy romance with no cheating and a happily ever after.
Julia grew up on the warm and sunny West Coast, but her first decision as an adult was to trade her flip-flops for snow boots and move to Boston.
She’s been enjoying everything that New England has to offer for over two decades, and now that she’s acclimated to the snowy winters and finally found all the places to get good sushi and tacos, she has zero regrets.
You can usually find her in front of her computer, but when she stops writing she’s most likely to be found outdoors, preferably with a pair of skis or snowshoes strapped to her feet in winter, or on a paddleboard in the summer.
I picked up this book because I saw an ad for the third book in the series that looked great, but me being me, I had to read the first two books before that.
This was an okay romance. Second-chance romances are tricky for me, especially when the original cause of the split is the miscommunication trope, which is one of my least favorites.
Besides that, I did love MMC, he was charming, caring, and clearly attempting to make amends for his past actions throughout the book, but I didn't really like the FMC at all. I thought that she did a lot of blaming others (especially Nate) for things that she definitely had some blame for. She didn't see things from his perspective and didn't even try to, which is what frustrated me the most.
So while I loved the sports-romance trope set in the ski world, I had trouble believing that our FMC Jackson was worth all the trouble Nate went through to get her back. I will probably still read the second book since they are all standalone, but I hope to connect more with the characters during round 2!
“The things you remember...” “You'd be surprised how little I've forgotten.”
Second chance romances where they used to be THE couple but broke up after a misunderstanding, so years later character A hates character B and character B is ready to go and fight for character A's love again.... SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY 💳💥💳💥💳💥💳💥!!
Tropes: second chance, workplace romance, forced proximity, sports romance. No cheating, HEA.
4.5 stars. | I like to think of myself as a second chance romance connoisseur, and the moment I read that blurb I knew this was the book, and I wasn't wrong. Jackson and Nate were together for years, but in the blink of an eye a decade-long relationship ended without further explanation. Now he's back to fight for his girl, but it's not gonna be easy with all the resentment Jackson feels for him; they need to come clean, talk and put the past behind them if they want a new relationship, but once again past misunderstandings seem to be driving them apart. The love is there, intact, but so are the fears... can they make it this time? read to get all the angsty feelings!
This is the first book by Julia Connors book, and it's set in a sports romance universe with 3 more books to come following Jackson's gilfriends, all introduced in this first installment. Each one with great tropes, so there's plenty of fun to come. About On the Edge, maybe I'm biased because I love second chance romances with the passion of a thousand suns, but this was a really good debut novel. It was easy and light to read while taking the time to explain about the characters, their past relationship, and also the sport (because I don't have the slightest idea about competitive skiing, so there's that too 🤭). And as is classic with second-chance romances, there was a lot of explaning to do here, and Jackson and Nate took their sweet time getting there while in the intervening time they were forced to work together, and she HATED it... or least at the beginning and with good reason if I'm honest because she was the one who from one day to the next lost the love of her life without further explanation, but Nate was a man with a plan and a single goal in mind so he was ready from the start to convince her to give him another chance doing whatever it took because this man knew from their (second) first kiss that she was the one for him. I just wish I could have seen a little more of their past relationship because the mistakes they made were mentioned/recalled a few times, but not much was really seen about how they got together, the travels, the fights, the jealousy, etc.
Aaaaand... this book ended in the way that I like the most; with a bonus scene with a glimpse into the future a few years down the road. You got me forever there, Julia!!
The very last person Jackson ever expected to see again is her new patient. Yep, her ex, Nate, the one who ghosted her while she was recuperating from the crash that ended her skiing career years ago, is now her newest PT patient, and she cannot convince her boss to let her switch patients with another therapist. So she may have to work with him, but she will never, ever, forgive him or hate him less. Right?
Nate's come back for redemption, to claim the only woman he's ever loved. But, as he's finding, he has his work cut out for him because Jackson will barely look at him, let alone let him explain what happened all those years ago. Forgiveness? Ha! If looks could kill, he'd be a dead man, so he will have to work double time to convince her to give him a second chance.
Oh boy but this one was intense. Nate had some serious explaining to do, and Jackson made him work his tail off to get back on her good side. This is serious slow burn goodness and I loved it. There's a ton of mis and non-communication, making for tension and angst, but it wasn't over the top. Their chemistry was sizzling, their love obvious, and now I can't wait for more by this author.
ARC provided by Wildfire Marketing Solutions for an honest review.
I really wanted to love this book, I mean it had all the good stuff: have no mercy heroine (Jackson) and repentant hero (Nate), but it just fell flat for me.
I think it was that I couldn’t feel a connection to these two because to me all their big mistakes were for a lack of better a word immature. When the main conflict could have been fixed with a phone call, email or text message, but the main couple take 5 years to tell the truth, it loses credibility to me. Nate just lost his mom and his girlfriend has suffered a serious injury after having a very bad argument, then her father thinks that’s the best time for him to give him the truth about their “toxic” relationship.
Nothing about this book gave romance vibes, it just felt like a book who tells us these people are in love without the love being shown in the story, for me. Honestly, if we didn’t know the truth about Marco and Jackson, you would think this girl was a horrible girlfriend because she almost jumps Nate every time she’s had some alcohol and they are alone.
Nate says he left to find himself and it was all part of his plan and it was time to get Jackson back. We never actually learn what it is he did do besides acquire property and film some videos. He says he was celibate until he could have Jackson back, but there were reports of him dating which sent Jackson to Marco, so he was celibate, but he wasn’t a monk (his words); so did he wait or not?
And then the big blow up; I have always and will always dislike it when a couple has to be secretive about their relationship for their own serious reasons and then proceed to have sex in public settings and then are upset when they are caught. Naturally, Jackson was angry and pushed Nate away then he got mad because she didn’t call him and she was hurt because he didn’t call her. Honestly I couldn’t take the childishness any longer and I was glad it was finished.
I hoped to enjoy the side characters, but besides Petra and Ms. Juarez they were all just blah.
Jackson’s mother who has battled cancer for years, had the unfortunate circumstance of it returning and spreading and Beau, Jackson’s little brother, never makes an appearance. The entire time he is mentioned once and we never see or interact with him.
The next book features Beau and Sierra (Jackson’s bestie).

This debut novel is a well-written look at what this new author has to offer. It is written in first person from an alternating dual POV and ends with a HEA. Jackson and Nate get a second chance at love when he arrives on the men’s ski team. They are forced to face the heartbreak that ended their relationship the first time. They still have sizzling chemistry and deep feeling for each other. Jackson must let down her walls. They both must communicate about the past and the present to get to their HEA. Nate was a hero who would do whatever it takes to get his girl back. Once readers know his side of the story, they cannot help but fall in love with him. He is 100% Jackson. All-in. Forever. I love that swoony-ness. This was a good look at how important communication is in a relationship and how devastating secrets can be. Jackson must give Nate a chance to tell her what happened five years ago before they can move past it. That takes a while. I would say this is a bit of a slow burn. Though there are some steamy fantasy scenes, the couple doesn’t get physical until the fourth quarter of the book. Their HEA is sweet, and the grand gesture was romantic. I thought the book itself was well-written and very well-edited, which is nice to see in a debut book. I found the characters likable, the plot and ski racing details interesting, and the pace just right. Jackson’s girl friends are introduced, and the scene is set for them to get their happily ever afters in future books. I adore the friendship and support they offer Jackson, and I am looking forward to getting to know them better. This was a very good steamy romance and probably my first skiing book. I am looking forward to the next read by this author. I can’t wait to see where she goes.
I really enjoyed the sports aspect of this book. I love to watch the Olympics and the Alpine skiing events are some of my favorites. The author did a phenomenal job describing the training, the competition and some of the challenges of being a world class athlete. The descriptions of all the various locations for events and training were also very well done and made me want to go on vacation to a ski town immediately.
Unfortunately, the relationship between Jackson and Nate didn’t work for me. Their reasons for not being together in the past and present seemed easily avoidable if there had been better communication between them. There were also several outside forces working against them between careers, family and friends. They kept repeating the same mistakes and I honestly didn’t fully believe in their HEA by the end.
I really wanted to like this book because I felt like Jackson and Nate had a lot of potential for character growth, but it all felt rushed in the end. I’m hoping we see more to solidify their relationship in the next book.
I am excited to read the next book about Sierra & Beau. Sibling’s best friend is my favorite.
I have to say that after reading Julia Connors' debut On the Edge, I'm super excited about her future work. This is a second chance at love, and man, did she pen it perfectly in my eyes. See, Nate & Jackson were in love before things went belly up, and she lost everything because of him. Now her life is pretty great as she's making a name for herself as a physical therapist, has great friends, and a new boyfriend when Nate comes back into her life as the newest member of the National Ski Team. And Nate wants her back & is doing everything right to achieve it but she's not listening to him. Don't get me wrong, I loved Nate, but I also loved the fact that Jackson didn't make anything easy for him despite the fact that they really needed to talk. I'm not saying she should have never forgiven him, but I'm the type of girl who thinks if the heroine's heart is broken, she needs to make the hero work for it. The good news is Nate isn't going to give up either since they are perfect for each other but I'm not saying anything else. To experience all this goodness for yourselves & see how it all plays out, you'll have to hit those one click buttons as I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
“‘I promised you a long time ago that even though you weren’t my first, you’d be my last.’”
this story was such a good book!! i’ve never read a skiing romance and omg i loved it. there wasn’t as much skiing as i expected, but this book was more focused on the training!
i loved the enemies to lovers so much, the arguing and hating. the story was a bit drawn out and it started to get a little annoying. i love a slow burn but the way this was written annoyed me a bit.
i hated jackson’s dad. he made me want to just throw the book out. he was the absolute worse character. ever. horrible.
i really liked the ending and thought it was cute! the few chapters before it tho just eh.
i am writing this so much later bc sometimes i dread writing reviews bc they make me rly have to think but this was a very cute book!!
tropes included: second chance enemies to lovers sports romance spicy scenes (they were so so so good ❤️🔥🔥😫)
thank you so much to Wildmarketing Solutions for a ARC copy of this book 💙
It’s been five years since Jackson’s life was turned upside down both personally and professionally. She has proven how strong and resilient she is as and her life is in a good place until she finds herself having to work with Nate, her ex-boyfriend who left her when she needed someone the most.
Nate is a competitive skier who couldn’t be happier that Jackson is tasked with being his physiotherapist. Leaving her is the biggest regret in his life and he isn’t about to make the same mistake twice however he is about to find out that Jackson isn’t about to just forgive and forget.
As much as Jackson tries to fight her feelings Nate is equally determined to prove to Jackson that they have always belonged together. I enjoyed the debut from this author as she takes us on an emotional journey that not only features two great characters but a captivating group of secondary characters that need their own stories as well.
“my heart has always been yours, even when you didn’t want it." •
five years after the accident that ended her professional skiing career, Jackson Shanahan is living in park city working as the physical therapist for the american national ski team. she’s in a longterm relationship, and she’s got her best friends around her. obviously, she most certainly never thinks about Nate, her ex-boyfriend that disappeared when she needed him most.
when she returns from a month-long vacation with her boyfriend, Marco, she’s furious to discover the newest member of the national team is none other than Nate. while she views him as a deserter, he looks at her as the one he will do anything to win back.
with years of pain and broken trust between them, plus secrets and complicated relationships swirling around them, is there any way they can find their way back to each other, or will they forever be an example of young love that burned hot and fizzled out? •
this and that: ♡ athletes ♡ competitive skiing ♡ dual pov ♡ female friendships ♡ forced proximity ♡ neighbors ♡ open door spice ♡ second chance ♡ traveling ♡ workplace •
triggers: ☞ attempted assault ☞ blackmail ☞ cancer ☞ death of loved ones •
Boring, repetitive and there is always some miscommunication between each other. Always runs away and solves nothing. To slow and felt no chemistry between them. At some point into this I just wanted them to find somebody else to love than each other.☹️
The fml also frustrated me so much! She always runs away when the ml wants so explain what really happened.
The ending where she got mad because he didn’t call and he the same was also a bit childish. Felt like both should have called and not let it be. Also the NDA thing felt so wrong. There was so much in this book to make the leads not closer to each other and made them more distant than they supposed to in romance book. I hated the NDA part in this, both that Nate and HER DAD is part of it and can’t tell her and that the other people in this deal refused to let her in on this secret. There was no part in this to solve their misunderstandings and problems. 😤
The other people also felt so distantly. Her father when he supposedly part of a deal with Nate😤

Is my life changed? No. Did this keep my attention? Yes.
1. Super public romantic gestures make me itchy. I had to stop reading and take a minute to breathe for this resolution scene
2. I get true love and all, sure, but homie really????? You waited 5 years for her???? She hid so many things from you then and now and you’re still this hung up on her??????? Like glad it all worked out but I felt bad for the guy for a while there.
3. I know it never said it, but I know in my soul that Nate likes to be the little spoon.
Well, I feel proud of myself. I am branching out from the hockey and football sports romance trend I have been in. I'm not saying I won't return to it quickly, but at least I am taking a 4 book break to branch out. However, I have not left winter sports yet.
I have been seeing a lot of bookstagram posts on Julia Connors books, and I was very interested in diving in. Therefore, I decided to start with the Frozen Hearts series. I have to say, I think I really like Nate. He's not my top book boyfriend but he's good. I like the confidence that he has in his plans, the relationship that he once had with Jackson, and the patience that he is demonstrating to wait for what he has always wanted.
Ok, let me backtrack. So, in this story, we have Nate and Jackson. Both are around 30 years old and are involved in the sport of skiing, apparently Alpine skiing. I'm not going to lie. I have no idea what events or skills are included in ski or winter sports so I'm just going to say that Julia has a good grasp on the sport, or at least enough to contribute to the plot of the story. So, Jackson and Nate have known each other since they trained for the junior ski championship in their late teens. They started dating and fell in love. Nate put his career on the back burner to help Jackson focus on her career. Their relationship was young, fierce, and passionate. Nate was ready for more after 7 years together and Jackson wanted to focus on her career goals. Something happened (I'll give my thoughts on this later), and Jackson had to retire from professional competing, and she and Nate broke up, never to see each other again. Well, never is a lot of time. Let's say 5 years. They spent 5 years where they didn't see each other. During that time, Jackson finished her college degree and became an athletic/physical trainer (I honestly don't know if this is the same thing or not). Nate continued his ski career for exhibition, not competing. However, their paths cross when they both are working for the National Ski Team and Nate wants this opportunity to win Jackson back. Jackson is not having it and she is looking for a way to get out of working with Nate or possibly even changing jobs. However, as the former is not possible, and the latter takes time, Jackson finds herself working with Nate closely, and he uses this time to clear the air, declare his undying feelings, and pursue her to win her back. The problem is that Jackson is already in a relationship (kind of), and she definitely doesn't trust Nate with her heart again.
The story itself is fine, great even. The storyline is slightly different from those I have read in the past, but I may feel like that because it is based on a sport that I have never read anything about nor that I have any personal interest in. The spice and chemistry between Jackson and Nate are obviously amazing, seeing as they already dated for 7 years in the past, and they still love, crave, and lust for each other. My hesitancy comes from some of the details and here is why I can't give this more than a 3 star rating:
By now, we have already read the Second-chance Lovers and Enemies to Lovers storyline multiple times over. I enjoy these tropes, however, for them to stand out now, they need to fulfill some of my expectations. WARNING. THERE *MAY/WILL* BE SPOILERS AHEAD. READ AT YOUR OWN CAUTION 1. The break-up. I hate when couples break-up over a misunderstanding and miscommunication. Come on. Jackson and Nate had been dating for 7 years. 7 YEARS! They seriously broke up because Nate had to immediately travel home to be with his sick mother, forgot or chose not to mention it to Jackson, therefore leaving her worried, and she ended up having a ski accident that ended her career. And when Nate went back to see Jackson in the hospital, while she was in a coma, her father convinced Nate to just walk away from the relationship. After 7 years?!?! I'm sorry, I don't buy that. 7 years of relationship, and he was able to walk away from it, and she didn't try to reach out and ask him, "WTF." Either they were very immature in their relationship or there were some serious trust, confidence, and communication issues. 2. During the time apart, I want to see character development. Nate did grow. I think he realized he had made a huge mistake, and he tried to improve where he was mentally and emotionally to be in a better place for Jackson when they did eventually come back together. He focused on his ski career, but he also took an interest in other business endeavors, hobbies, and passions that could lead to a long-term, sustainable, and stable life for years to come. Jackson on the other hand...I don't think she grew. She hid from her feelings, she put on a mask to deflect attention to her pain, she didn't trust or let her heart open up. She was a great friend to those she cared about, but she didn't really allow herself to open up to anyone new or really move on from the heartbreak. Neither of them was able to improve their communication skills, at least not fully. The third-act break-up happened because, again, they weren't able to be honest or communication openly with each other.
In the end, I'm happy they got their HEA, but I think they wasted 5 years trying to get there, and they still have a lot of developing as people to really navigate a marriage.
Jackson Is a very strong, athletic skier with very set goals and was not letting nothing or no one stop her. Jackson had a skiing accident that changed her goals and loss of her boyfriend Nate. There were reasons why he left but she doesn’t find out until years later until they meet again. Jackson finally realizes you can achieve your goals and live out your dreams with that special person by your side.
Found this book through Tiktok and was kinda iffy about starting it, but I was mostly definitely not disappointed. There was lots of tension, back and forth, spicy moments, growth, the list goes on. Can’t wait to read more works by this author. If you’re into sport’s romance I’d definitely recommend reading.
as a former ski racer i have spent the past two years searching for a book that would fill the void in my life that ski racing has left. this book did not disappoint. the setting and them both being racers who fell in love when they were juniors who grew up skiing together automatically gave this book 5 stars. i loved it thank you julia for giving this book to me
After reading her current series, I wanted to read her other series and I just love her writing. The angst & groveling was next level just like a second chance should be I thought the tropes were written very well. I almost kind of wished this book went from past and present but it was still good.
5 WOW, JUST WOW STARS!! This one grabbed my attention from the beginning and held me until the last word. The characters were great and hit all my feels buttons. This author knows how to keep us readers wanting more. I can't wait for more words.
I was all-in on this story! The "love" scenes were hot and so well done, but beyond that, the entire novel is well-written. Realistic characters, compelling plot. Hearing both sides (dual POV) I was just as torn between them as they were with each other. Flew through it! Bring this book to the beach with you this summer!
This book hit me right in the feels and did not disappoint. Second chance love romances are always my weakness. Jackson and Nate had instant connection and chemistry despite 5 years of being apart and Jackson living with 5 years of hate. Loved watching them figure out that despite it all, love still overcame the misunderstanding.
I absolutely LOVE sports romance books. I have yet to read a sport that I haven't enjoyed reading about. When I heard that this book featured skiing, I was intrigued. I grew up skiing but there aren't many books that feature skiers.
The premise sets up Nate and Jackson. They were friends and grew up skiing together. Eventually it evolved to a romantic relationship. Nate has to leave at a critical moment in Jackson's career. Jackson ends up having a career ending injury that put hers in the hospital and on a long path to recovery.
5 years later...Jackson has a physical therapy degree and works for the National Ski Team. Nate is back on the National Ski Team with the goal to win Jackson back and he refuses to work with anyone else but Jackson.
The tension in this book was perfect. The spice made sense. There was a great balance of plot and spice. I can't wait to finish the rest of the books in the series.
I was in a pretty major reading slump before On the Edge. Let’s just say that I am officially CURED. Connors’s debut was everything that I was looking for and some that I had not bargained for. There was so much to love about this book, so I will stick to the highlights.
This is a second chance romance that takes place in Park City and the world of competitive ski racing. Jackson and Nate have HISTORY. The kind where you think the book is closed forever. Until he joins her racing team, and she is forced to be his physical therapist. As far as premises go, this one fully delivers on its promise.
The chemistry is off the charts. The banter is hilarious and sharp and the physical tension sizzles. There were some scenes (hello garage) where I literally had to fan myself. If you love your romance with a hefty dose of spice, look no further than this book.
Like my fav romance authors, Connors has the gift of voice. Both Nate and Jax jump right off the page, each in their own authentic way. Jax is the type of female lead that I adore. She is complicated, and sometimes prickly, but also loyal and true. She is not your “every girl.” She is completely, unapologetically herself, and it made her feel so fresh to me. And then there’s Nate. What can I say? I loved him after the very first page I spent in his head. Their interplay had me sweating and laughing and rooting for them from the very beginning. And not just because of their chemistry. But because they have a true emotional connection that makes it clear how good they are for each other.
One of the best parts of this book for me was the way Connors represented female friendship. Jackson’s friends are her family, and every single one of them was dynamic and fleshed out. The importance they hold in her life was obvious, and by the end of the book, I wanted nothing more than to be a part of their group. But I will settle for waiting for each of their stories. I can’t wait to see what else Conners has up her sleeve.
Awesome Debut! Nate is back for his girl in this Sweet Sexy Skiing Second Chance Romance
This book made me so happy! Kudos to JC, on her debut novel. I loved it, from the start! When I met Nate Davenport in Chapter 2, I was completely melting into a puddle for that man. Swoon.
This was such a great story. It’s a definite must read! The tension, banter, and sweet moments between Nate and Jackson were so good. I zoomed right through it, because I needed to see Nate get his girl. The glimpses of them in the past, gave the story so much depth.
Nate and Jackson have so much chemistry, past and present… Woo! I mean that garage scene, holy smokes!
This is a second chance/coworkers romance. Nate and Jackson were high school sweethearts. For reasons unknown to Jackson, Nate left her at one of the lowest points in her life. Now he is back to claim her and never leave her side again, if only she would get out of her own way and let him.
Nate came back knowing exactly what he wanted, Jackson. She was and always will be his forever. He is the most loyal, honest, giving and loving man. He was giving Jackson what she needed without her even realizing.
I wanted to be mad at Nate for Jackson, I really did, but I just couldn’t. Nate just lays it all out there. He’s so honest and open. Basically… I love Nate.
Not gonna lie, there is a lot of angst. Jackson made me so mad at one point, I legit growled at my kindle. She was not listening to Nate’s words and actions. Luckily she got it together. It was hard knowing more than Jackson at times, because she was so damn stubborn.
Don’t miss out on this wonderful story!
I received an ARC of this book from Wild Fire Marketing. This is MHO.
Oh how I love a good second chance romance! The fact that this was slow burn, steamy, and a sports romance had me all in.
Jackson was perfectly content living her life, working at the job she loved, and she had her relationship with Marco. Except that relationship was causing a bit of turmoil. After returning to work from a long (and much needed) vacation, Jackson finds out she has a new client, and will be expected to travel with him to all the races. The minute she sees THAT name on the folder, she's ready to run. The way her relationship with Nate ended still caused heartache, and she was still angry. Meanwhile Nate was living life the best he could. He was doing what he loved, but he didn't have the woman he loved by his side. It was time to find his way back to her. To show her that it was only ever her. She was it for him.
This book was filled with so much emotion. These two have quite the past, and you can feel the connection between them. Their road to reunion wasn't easy though. But Nate knew that would be the situation when he started. Secrets were still being kept. Jackson was guarding her heart. Friends were worried. Plus they worked together, so that made a reunion even more difficult.
The big moment was pretty intense. I knew that drama was coming, but I wasn't expecting it to be that grand. I'm still not over all of that, and how it affected Jackson. I also still have a question or two regarding all of it.
The reunion took a while to happen, but I was so happy when it did. I was rooting for these two.
On The Edge was my first book by Julia Connors that I had read, and I cannot wait for the next in this series. Sierra has me intrigued. I'm also looking forward to Petra's story, and I would love to see something regarding Marco.
