I think its safe to say that this became one of my favourite holiday read. I think Tracy Leigh got the balance between keeping the xmas magic alive, keeping it warm and cozy whilst still having spice here and there. The sexual tension between the leads were off the charts the moment they saw each other, and I really liked that they both were honest to both themselves, and each other about how they felt, and acted accordingly to it. It was soooo funny when Callum walked into how Parker was fantasizing about him.
Parker is such a slay, badass heroine, who makes it very clear from the start that she does not need a man to run her business, she is very capable on her own. She deals with the lawyers, planning out the deco, the logistics, checking in with the customers and ensuring her employees are able to put food on their table, even taking out a mortgage so her employees won't have a reduced paycheck during the pandemic. I love how she was able to confront Callum straight about the connection they have between them, and how she fought so hard to keep the xmass magic alive in her town, just like how her parents wanted.
Callum was sure a surprise, I never expected a grinch to once share such a hopeful side. It was probably because of what happened with his asshole brother and Sadie that made him lose all hope on whatever was not tangible and not predictable. He lost all hope and started living with only trusting things that were already set in stone. Thank god the universe sent Parker to him and him to Parker, he pulled Parker out of the past and Parker pulled him out of his zombie-state and allowed him to truly live as an individual again. Like she said, the best revenge is by living well, and not avoiding, running away from everything that might decimate him. He's such a sweet man, and a gentleman as well. He sees within Parker and appreciate her for all the kindness she's showered the town with, helps when she needs it to spread more xmas magic to foster kids, helped when her town needed more social media exposure, helped when she needed anything at all, and of course, helped her realise that she deserved a break here and there too.
The two of them were just so sweet together, I guess the universe does send you what you wish for, if you wish hard enough. Especially the part at the end where Callum got to switch on the lights during the tree lighting event when previously he was an outcast, just standing alone? I love the full circle moments Tracy so astonishingly weaved in. And how he opened his heart bare in front of the whole town when he proposed to her URGHHH and how she immediately responded with news of her pregnancy??? HELLO>>>> Sweetest pair ever.
The Xmas vibes here were immaculate, it was all in the details: the songs, the jazz, the decorations, how families were bonding together, couples were cuddling, the food, the chocolate, the carols they sung. And not to mention, the small town family here was amazing too. Everyone appreciated the xmas magic that Parker had so desperately wanted to keep going, and people came from all over the world to experience it again. Grandma and Haley were especially the goats. How they cheered Parker on to keep Callum, pursue her happiness. How they saw right through her and told her to stop living in the past (memories) and start creating memories for herself instead. Stop doing what her parents might have wanted to do and do it for herself, live for herself instead.
Overall, this book came as a huge surprise and i! want! more! can't wait to read Haley's book next, I'm sure the magic will stay.
