Triple Trouble #3

Unexpected Eva

Rate this book
When soon-to-be divorced mother of two and dance instructor Eva Wallace attends a charity auction, the last thing she expects is Knox Black.

The billionaire hotelier bids an extortionate amount to secure one-to-one dance lessons with her.

Older. Sexy as sin. Her father's best friend. Forbidden.

He makes her an offer she can't refuse. "Stay with me tonight." One night. Just one night to extinguish the undeniable flame that burns ferociously between them.

But destiny has other plans, and things quickly spiral out of control. One night turns to two, then three, then four... but their secret tryst has to remain exactly that—a secret. But secrets never stay that way for long.

What happens when Knox's son confesses his feelings for her? What about when her angry ex decides he still owns her? And then there is her dad.

There's always someone unexpected waiting in the wings to uncover their secret. And if that happens, it threatens to break both of their hearts and families apart. Forever.

Unexpected Eva is a standalone age gap, dad's billionaire best friend love story. It's a perfectly blended full-length forbidden romance filled with heat, emotion, and a Happy Ever After, with no cliffhanger.

Unexpected Eva is book three of the Triple Trouble series. Each book can be enjoyed as a standalone but has cross-over characters. Intended for mature listeners.

This is the third book in the series but can be read as a standalone. There are 3 sisters who are triplets and each book of the series is on one of them.

Eva and her sisters together run a dance academy, she is a mother of two and is fighting in court for a divorce. She was the sister who had everything sought out.
High school sweetheart husband✓
2 cute kids✓
Dream job✓
But then everything fell apart.

Her husband Evan was a real asshole, i couldn't understand how a person can change so much, but apparently, alcohol and gambling do that to one.
Knox is a multimillionaire hotelier, who happens to be Eva's father's friend. A few months after the separation he confessed to Eva that he likes her but then realised it too soon and then one year they both didn't have any contact.

Then happened the charity function for which the dance school donated 12 classes of a particular type of dance lesson which is apparently is very intimate and sexual and guess who bought it... Knox.

It started with a one night stand which turned into a secret relationship and then so much more. They both had been through so much in their life and some of which was heartbreaking. There is a particular scene where after things have been public, her father made her choose btw family and Knox and Knox chose family for her. And then she gave a speech to her father about how her life has been falling apart and no one but Knox saw her, it was super emotional and when she said to her sister to buy her out of the academy because she needed money it broke my heart.

The 3 sisters together were so strong always there for one another.
The thing which was a little confusing to me was their one night stand was super sudden, the built up was missing, also when Evan stole her furniture and Knox sent her new one she never said no just thank you, I mean you can't just accept things like that, it was sweet and caring on his part but on her part, it was just absurd.

Except for a thing or two, the book is good, the characters are strong, the plot is well built,

This could be a 2.5. Or a 3. I’m not sure. At the start, I almost gave up and didn’t finish it. But then I persevered and it got a little better. I don’t know what I feel about it. It wasn’t terrible. But I wouldn’t reread this i don’t think. It felt like it was a little too long for me. I did like some moments between Knox and Eva, and their kids. I always love that dynamic in books.

Loved Eva and Knox

Story: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Trope: taboo
Angst: 😱😱😱😱
Smexy: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Eva has tons going on in her life right now with raising her two boys, running a business, and being in the middle of a divorce. But when her dad's best friend pays an exorbitant amount for private dance lessons with her at a charity auction, she is not prepared for the attraction she's feeling or the feelings she's catching. There's her dad, the fact Knox's son wants to date her, as well as her crazy ex - all reasons right now isn't the best time to start a new relationship.. but sometimes the heart wants what it wants 🤷🏻‍♀️.

This was my first VF Nicholson and I really enjoyed it! Angsty and sweet with a great storyline and endearing characters. I did find myself wishing Knox was a bit more forceful sometimes, just because he was older and it would have gone more with his CEO persona for me. But I loved all the complex relationships in the book. Will definitely be reading more of this author!

3.5 rounded to 4- I have some mixed feelings.

This book is filled with passionate encounters and intense chemistry between Knox and Eva. There are explicit scenes beyond the bedroom, and Knox is known for his seductive language. While it takes Knox some time to express his emotions and commitment verbally, he demonstrates his affection through actions and his genuine care for Eva and her children.

The first half of the book focuses heavily on sensuality but lacks momentum in terms of plot development. This creates pacing issues. In the final third of the story, particularly during the third act break, the author introduces time jumps. Although the pacing becomes uneven at times, certain events are mentioned as significant, yet the author fails to provide detailed scenes for those occurrences, instead breezing past them.

Moreover, I find the resolution of Eva's family dynamics unsatisfying. Despite everything that unfolds, I still harbor frustration towards her family. In essence, they bear responsibility for the fourth act's breakup and needed to show more remorse and make amends.

I will absolutely give this author another try. It was an enjoyable read it just has some pieces I wish it didn't or the author has edited out some of the extra unneeded stuff.

Perfection! The expected storyline due to the blurb is definitely delivered!
So much rightly used potential. The in the blurb announced drama with Charlie develops like expected. When you think, The End is slowly coming, another thing happens and chains you to the story over again. There were a few situations with miscommunication, but they handled it perfectly and talked everything through. In general, they talk a lot about their feelings and emotions and also, like in Ewan’s case, don’t brush addictions off like an everyday thing. Drinking too much getting aggressive -also with your kids-is not normalised.
Eva Wallace is a strong figure, who has to go over many bumps on her road but she always finds a way out. With Eva as an example, VH Nicolson shows who important sticking together is, inside of the family as well as with your friends.
Knox Black is portrayed to be the emotionless businessman on the outside, but when alone with Lincoln, it becomes clear that at the bottom of his heart, he is a true family man.

Loved this one! I feel VH Nicolson really hit her stride with it. It is hot, steamy and inciteful. Not only do I want a Knox, even though I really already have one IRL, I want a vertical hood piercing now too!

Knox is her dad’s bestfriend who just bid 80,000 in a charity auction, all so that he can spend time with her. So he proposes that they spend one night together, but one night is not enough 😌

He’s hot, possessive, with a mouth that can do a lot of things 🥵. Ah their story has everything; romance, heartbreak, family dynamics, oh and the 🌶 that had me blushing

Side note; I loved Knox’s son and hope he gets his own book!

V always does an impeccable job with her books, her writing captivates you from the very first chapter. Unexpected Eva is no different.

This is an age gap romance written in the POV of Knox and Eva.

Ever since hearing about Knox and Eva, I have been dying to read about them. I knew before reading this book, that this would be my favourite and it is. I could not put this book down, I just wanted more and more of Eva and Knox.

The first few chapters are incredibly hot, with Eva and Knox spending the weekend together and agreeing that it’ll just be a 2 night stand.
Knox has been infatuated with Eva for 2 very long years. But she was the forbidden fruit he couldn’t have. His best friends daughter, married woman and his son’s crush.
Now that Eva is going through a divorce from her arse (yes arse!) of an husband, he finally puts his cards on the table. Although, it isn’t all plain sailing for these two. Knox has abandonment issues because of his ex wife and Eva is going through a very stressful divorce.

I promise you that you will fall in love with Knox and Eva just like I have. They are absolutely perfect. This is my top read of 2022.

Wow!!! I have read all of the triple trouble series, and loved every one.

Unexpected Eva is a delicious age-gap forbidden romance.

I love how V H Nicolson writes with such deep emotion and passion that it seeps off the pages. I was pulled into this emotional love story between Eva and Knox, and my heart went out to Eva at so many times during this story.

The steam was *fans myself*, and there was plenty of it. Where can we find our own Knox Black, please?

I loved how their story was anything but easy, but Knox's devotion to Eva never wavered. There were some hard topics which were portrayed beautifully with such grace as well.

An easy 5 star read. I can't wait for more from this one-click author :)

This is my first book by this author and I’m really glad that I was able to get an ARC.

I love Knox and Eva together. They care deeply for each other despite there differences and I really admire that. I also laughed out loud when Eva’s son picked out his own clothes 😂 That had to be my favorite scene out of the entire book.

A must read for sure!

Nice Read

This is a cute, sexy, age gap, father’s friend story about second chance love. It’s touches on a messy divorce, alcohol addiction and domestic abuse so consider if these are triggers for you. There’s some drama but overall this was a nice, feel good read and a break from some of my heavier reads.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

When soon to be divorced, mother of two and dance instructor Eva Wallace attends a charity auction, the last thing she expects is Knox Black. The millionaire hotelier bids an extortionate amount to secure one-to-one dance lessons with her. Older, Sexy as sin. Her father's best friend. FORBIDDEN. He makes her an offer she can't refuse. "stay with me tonight" One night. Just one night to extinguish the undeniable flame that burns ferociously between them. But destiny has other plans and things quickly spiral out of control. Because there's always someone unexpected waiting in the wings to uncover their secret. And if that happens, it threaten to break both of their hearts and families apart. Forever.

I loved the book. I also love a good forbidden best friend anything and this one was so good. When your dads best friend has a thing for you, you just know it is going to be smoking hot and Eva and Knox are pure first. This book is so smoking hot but more than that is a story of true love and the love of family and the fear of tearing it apart. I don't want to ruin anything in this book. I went in to it basically blind and loved every single second of it!!!

Unexpected Eva by VH Nicolson is book Three in the Triple Trouble Series. This is the story of Eva Wallace and Knox Black. I have read the previous books which did add to my enjoyment of this one. I did feel it could be a standalone book if you wish to do so. Knox is Eva's father's friend...a family friend really. Someone she has crushed on but knew nothing would come of it. But now in their present day Eva is going through a divorce with a terrible ex and has two little ones. Knox has been burned by his ex wife so he doesn't let women in but he has been wanting Eva for the last few years. They strike a deal that they will have a weekend together but now more. Of course their desires take on a life of their own along with their feelings. Enjoyed their story.

This one is definitely my favorite!! From the previous book I was dying to read about Knox and Eva and they were perfect, I had a smile on my face from the first moment I started reading it and with every chapter their story kept getting better.

Eva is the last triplet to get her story and I was captivated from the beginning, her chemistry with Knox was undeniable and despite their age gap Knox really knew how to treat her and show her they could have a great time together. Eva was struggling with her ex and taking care of her two boys so when Knox proposed to stay with him for a weekend she realized she needed the distraction, besides she couldn’t deny how attracted she was to Knox and now that she was “free” she wanted to act on her feelings for him.

Knox had been attracted to Eva for 2 years but he never acted on his feelings because of her marriage, their age difference and his relationship with Eva’s father. He had a great relationship with his son Lincoln but because of his mother walking out on them he had some abandonment issues and he never got to close to women. He knew Eva was different from the start and he always told her how he felt about her. Their connection was wonderful from the beginning and they both needed each other to overcome the problems they were facing, besides Knox always tried to help her and be there when she needed someone to protect her. Their steamy scenes were the best and so hot🥵, Knox really knew what she wanted and I loved how they couldn’t keep their hands off each other.

Eva was an amazing mother and she did everything to be there for her sons and try to explain their father’s behavior. Archie and Hamish were so cute and I loved how Knox treated them, he really cared about them and he turned out to be the best father figure for them. Lincoln was great with them too, and I loved their interactions at the end and how they acted as a big happy family. Eva deserved the world after the things she went through and despite shedding a few tears at the end I loved how everything worked out for her and Knox.

Wow wow wow so many emotions reading this book first I loved hunter then Fraser now Knox and Lincoln are up there ❤️ Eva isn’t the little sweet innocent sister you all thought she was she’s a little minx with so much going on in her life. And Knox is with her every step of the way but trouble does come to them can they survive it.

I love how each book in this series is so different but yet still connected nothing in the series is repeated like some authors do.

Thank you for letting me arc xx

This was a really easy and enjoyable read.
I won’t lie the first 15% was abit hit or miss for me but once I got past that I couldn’t stop reading. It’s nothing I haven’t read before and is a typical “dads best friend” book BUT it was just so well done and hit the spot. There’s other aspects that spiced things up to. I really enjoyed the fmc being a single mum and the mmc relationship with her children.
I haven’t read the first 2 books but are definitely going to add them to my tbr as I loved this authors writing style!

VH Nicolson takes no prisoners in this final book of The Triple Trouble Series. It’s Eva’s turn in the spotlight and boy does she shine bright! With her heavily packed life of duties and responsibility Eva, usually the sensible one of the Castleview triplets is finally in the arms of the towns most eligible, smouldering, bachelor Knox Black. A newly single mum to two gorgeous boys, Eva is navigating life with an ex from hell, a family that seem too wrapped up in themselves to notice her struggles and the one person that she yearns for can’t easily be hers. Eva is forbidden to Knox but that doesn’t stop the undeniable pull between the two. The steam factor is through the roof with these two. Knox Black will set your heart racing faster than one of his sports cars. I laughed, yelled, sobbed and swooned throughout reading. I had panda eyes on the school run directly after reading! VH Nicolson has managed a perfect hat trick with this series. Highly recommended.

Eva is a 29 year old who is going through a divorce and has 2 kids. Knox is 14 years older than her, and her dad’s best friend.

I found it so hard to put this book down, those first few chapters were extremely hot after the auction. The way they both thought it was just going to be one weekend but they had both liked each other for longer than they would admit to begin with.

Of course everything isn’t plan sailing, with Eva’s ex husband, Knox’s abandonment issues due to his ex wife, Lincoln - Knox’s Son - who is also attracted to Eva, Tabby - Knox’s friend with Benefits who wants to be more and then Eva’s dad who’s reaction they are worried about

The writing in the book was amazing, I love the way the dad’s best friend and age gap trope were portrayed in this book. This was the first book I have read by V but I will definitely be reading the first two books from this series

I decide. Come hell or high water. I want this woman.

This was my favorite book of the series. It hit the ground running right at the beginning, which made me glad that I read the first two books in the series. It provided some much needed context and background, and set the stage for the events of this book. It has good romance and spice, and Eva and Knox have such an interesting relationship.

What a beautiful way to live. Not caring what other people think.

I think Eva is my favorite character so far. She's multi-faceted with life experience that many people can probably relate to, and she's quite intriguing. Overall a 3.75 star read for me.

4.25 Unexpected Stars

"... Because life is full of contrasts, Knox, and that's exactly what you and I are. Opposites. You have to feel pain sometimes to enjoy the pleasure. Other times you have to take a leap of faith to reap the benefits, and sometimes you have to admit, give in to your inner being, listen, and tune in when something feels so aligned, even when you fight with yourself that it feels wrong. Because destiny can't be avoided. Not if you feel a powerful pull toward the unknown and it feels like it's your life path." - Eva Wallace

This third and final instalment is hands down my favourite in the series. Eva Wallace has captivated me since the first book as the fierce, independent, mature, logical and level-headed among the triplets. But who knew the most modest of the three also has a naughty side? Totally unexpected. Her ways of dealing with the abuse of her soon-to-be husband, the upcoming divorce, taking care of her two boys, managing the dance school and covering up for favours asked by her family requires a lot of strength and stamina. Her kind heart is admirable and this woman is a heroine.

"...In this moment, I realised I got the family I always dreamed of.
It was all unexpected.
But I should have known, because after the rain always comes sunshine.
And where there is sunshine and rain, there are rainbows.
And my life is now full of colour and hope.
And it feels completely and utterly epic." - Knox Black

I'm in awe with Knox Black and I've decided to add him to my list of bookboyfriends. With his kindness, selflessness, sense of responsibility, and being the best boss, and family fellow, this sexy man is a keeper. Having been abandoned by his wife and becoming a single dad at a young age, this man sacrificed and worked a lot to become the best father for Lincoln. His son is his priority and it shows how much he loves and cares for him throughout those father-and-son banter scenes. He did an excellent job raising Lincoln and turned him into an exceptional young man.

Knox and Eva's passion and chemistry are hot and mesmerising. They've kept their relationship a secret, not because of the age gap but because Knox is also her Dad's business partner and friend. Furthermore, Eva is still waiting to finalize her divorce and not to forget that Lincoln bears feelings towards Eva. So many matters to consider to forbid them from going public. Their plans to go all out were about to be executed until an unanticipated and deplorable circumstance led them to choose. My heart was hurting for Eva but more for Knox at that juncture. He deserves to finally be happy only to be taken away from him in a heartbeat. I found Eva's father's reaction to the revelation a bit overdramatic. But I guess that was deliberately written to add some drama to the plot. Thankfully, Knox and Eva have handled their brief separation well and after a series of apologies and promises from the people who hurt them, they finally seized their happily ever after.

Writing-wise, I've seen a lot of advancements in this book. The plot, character building, and pacing were carefully thought out and planned this time. A significant recovery from the first book. For an introductory author writing her first series, this is a massive attainment. I'm glad I took a leap of faith with this author and I cannot wait to see more of her works. Up next. Lincoln Black! You're next, my man!

Trigger Warnings: drinking, alcoholic (not MMC or MFC), assault (by the alcoholic to MFC), theft (happens to the MFC), third-act-breakup, car accident (not MMC or MFC), child abuse (mental, told not shown), child pregnancy (17, backstory)

The Plot
Eva, the MFC (main female character) is currently getting a divorce from her abusive alcoholic ex. Knox, the MMC (main male character) buys tickets at an auction to do dance lessons with her. They very quickly fall head over heals for each other. There's a lot of sneaking around but a few people figure it out and have no qualms with it. There's a crazy ex added into the drama but she was REALLY crazy, like, unbelievably so. The plot's big climax was also pretty unbelievable. Characters acted over the top or not at all and it was completely forced. The drama with her ex wasn't exactly wrong, but it got pretty ugly, with kids around, so be warned about that if it's a trigger. The whole thing felt a little too long and I found myself skipping paragraphs. The first 15 pages almost kept me from finishing it because it was a massive life dump that could have been dumped over time.

The characters
I got a pretty good feel for Eva and she stays true to her character the whole way. Even at the big reveal she doesn't roll over and take it. I enjoyed reading from her perspective, even if it wasn't happy most of the time.
Knox was perfect, too perfect. The way Knox helps her through all her troubles and truly cares for her and her two sons is sweet and easy. Not that I mind a family-wanting, millionaire hotty, but damn, the guy had no flaws. And you never really learn anything about him. Yes, he is rich and has cars, he dresses like he has money, but that's it. There's this whole blank slate around him. He had no personality besides loving Eva. It was kind of disappointing.
The side characters were okay. None of them stood out enough for me to want to read the other books. Knox's son took everything awfully easily and instantly fell in love with Eva's boys.

This felt like it could have been anywhere. I only knew it was Scotland from one line, they said. Otherwise, it sounded like any small town, which is disappointing if you love reading about places you've never been to before. It kind of sounded like the author just picked a spot and incorporated it without researching it at all first. The book was really long. I get that there had to be a build-up of evil ex stuff but dang. You could sink your teeth into Eva's story, but Knox was one-dimensional. All in all, it wasn't a bad read. I bought it since the library didn't have it, but if they had, I wouldn't have loved it enough to buy a copy for rereading.
