Here's a tip: don't mess with the demon girl who kills people for a living.
The four self-proclaimed kings of Orchid Vale apparently never got that memo, and now my self-care retreat is about to become a bloodbath.
This quaint village was supposed to be a break from my hectic life of death, gore, and high stakes "jobs"—that's code for supernatural murder—but I don't get a chance to enjoy even a fairground ride without the kings of Orchid Vale getting in my way.
Arkan, the ice-cold wraith, wants to break me. Joseph, the reaper gangster with a heart of gold, wants to save me. X, the incubus maniac, wants us to be a killer duo. Taj, the prince of hell and the worst of them all, wants me dead. Apparently, I killed his uncle. Oops.
The kings warn I'll be lucky to leave Orchid Vale alive, even if their instincts say I'm their fated mate. But they're the ones who need to watch out. One false move, and they'll find themselves choking to death.
They don't call me the Candyfloss Killer for nothing.
Crazed Candy is a paranormal romance with psycho men, a badass FMC, twisted romance, and lots and lots of bloodlust. Demon criminals, a dark syndicate, a godlike hunter, and depraved, evil pasts fill this book, but none of them are as deadly as Aveline Lachesi. This book is medium burn, with moderate heat and multiple love interests.
Leigh Kelsey is the author of romance and reverse harem books for anyone with a soft spot for steely women and the tortured men who love them. No matter what stories she's writing - vampires or shifters or bad boys - they all share a common thread of love, heart, and action. She is the author of the Lili Kazana series, the Moonlight Inn series, the Dead Space stand alone, and the Blacktower Prison for Supernaturals series, plus many more books.
If someone killed me wearing galaxy pants, I would ask to be revived just so I could cannonball off the nearest skyscraper to end it all myself.
The fires will burn out of Mordor before I allow myself to stop hating MCs like this one. She was the worst serial killer. She got distracted by a fucking stuffed unicorn at one point when she was trying to kill someone. She whispers to her victims about how she's being nice for suffocating them to death with cotton candy. And yes. That was her trademark way to kill her victims. 😐 I can't. I'm about to get real aggressive so I just can't.
Alright, this was... interesting to say the least. Extremely chaotic with a healthy dose of psychosis, some hot sex (one of the guys has 2 dicks), and a sprinkle of fated mate/insta-love (once they got over wanting to kill her but at this point it's extremely one-sided and she wants nothing to do with them). At some points (well, frequently) there was so much going on that I didn't understand what was happening but eventually (kinda) got my bearings. The footnotes were funny until they became annoying to have to click on them so I just stopped. I wish the author would've aged up the FMC instead of her being 19 but that may be just a personal gripe.
The FMC's MO for killing (shoving candyfloss (which is just cotton candy right?? does she have some special kind that doesn't disintegrate??) down her victims throat and then suffocating them? I think??) is very weird and I'm hoping we get more of her backstory in the next book. So far it's a lot of surface level background info but I think knowing more about her upbringing would make me like her better. She's 19 but seems older and younger at the same time... Ends kind of on a cliffhanger but book 2 is released and on KU. Book 3 (final??) TBR end of 2023.
4.6 stars. So far? Hell yes. This was really entertaining. I absolutely adore a psycho FMC. They’re just so much fun.
And Avie is 100% that. Plus she gets hot at the craziest shit, and That is just entertainment at its peak.
I can’t wait to see what happens next. I’m betting it’s dirty. And I’m so looking forward to it.
Oh. And, forgot to mention. It’s single POV so far. And even the fact that I forgot to mention it should be a clue to you that it wasn’t a problem for me so far. Which is surprising because I waaaay prefer multi POV. 🤷🏻♀️ I think Avie is just crazy enough to be too delightful to care. I Do hope we get other POVs in the next books, but if we don’t I probably won’t be all that upset.
The footnotes concept was just....odd. It all could have easily blended into the narrative of the book, and it would have been better for it. Reading as an e-book, it was just super distracting.
It ends on a cliff-hanger. Sadly, I didn't know ahead of time. I don't normally start a series that ends in cliff-hangers until all the books are out. Is it just a way to make more money on what is, essentially, one book?
Anyway, the story is entertaining enough. Very light on plot, back story, and getting to know the characters. Hopefully that is all resolved in the continuation...er, I mean, 2nd book.
I mostly picked it up bc I like to read novels that have the more niche kinks, just to switch things up a bit, yknow? I’d say the smut was alright, but it suffers from the story trying to get all the characters to the sex-having level as fast as possible, so it’s almost disjointed and the characters have very little connection to satisfy the non-physical aspects of smut.
I also don’t think the excessively long scene of her running away from them at the fair was entirely necessary.
The Galaxy leggings also took me out of it and I actually went to Goodreads to see when the book was published….big yikes
I also wasn’t really a fan of the MC at all. The childlike qualities were just too much for me to be cool with the other aspects of her character (ie. the murderous tendencies and the high sexuality). Her instant obsession and attachment to a rainbow stuffed animal, even while she’s fighting and running for her life, almost made me instantly DNF but I was in a low-standards mood I guess.
Also she kills people by shoving cotton candy down their throats so they suffocate, but like??? It would disintegrate immediately??
And the footnotes were so unnecessary and downright annoying. If you’re going to include a parenthetical phrase or thought, either throw them in parentheses, in between a set of commas or within some em dashes ( — these guys — ). If you don’t care enough to actually put them within the text, then they’re not important, are they?
This is the oddest story that I have read, but frankly, I did not put it down. The MMCs are absolutely crazy and if I have to categorise the FMC, she is like a pretty little package, all wrapped up with the cutest present bow. That is the case until someone crosses her and she shows her crafty hidden nature. I kept on waiting to be irritated with the main heroine, but it simply did not happen. Usually, I am not a huge fan of that type of character, but it did work in this particular case. As far as the gentlemen are concerned, three of them appear to be sweethearts, even though that is the case in regards to the heroine. The broody one... not sure how I feel about him for now. There is some mystery as to the FMC's heritage and I am curious to see what truths she shall unravel when she encounters an imposing, but quite charismatic unexpected ally.
Well this book has definitely go the right name because Avie (Aveline FMC) is nuttier than a fruitcake but shes an absolutely brilliant character. Chock full of wit, sass and sarcasm. Shes also quirky which is slightly unusual for an assassin but in a way it suits her.
A break away Avie and an argument over a prize won at a Funfair/Carnival puts her on a collision course with The Kings of Orchid Vale - Taj, Arkan, Joseph and X who are looking for retribution from her. Omg did i love the dynamic Avie had with the guys. Fun, Funny and hot as hell too!! Oh and a knockout cliffhanger ending. I cant wait to get my hands on the next book because this was a barmy read but i loved it
Literally sprinting to the next book rn. Everything about this ate. Smut stared like 50 pages in and did not disappoint 😩. I literally can't pick a favorite out of those men, I need them all. Aveline is the reason I'm gay I swear. She gave me Sibby (from the haunting adeline series) vibes but in a fantasy way. Love her hot ass psychopath tendencies. The banter was amazing and had me cackling in the doctors office. I can sense this being of my top fantasy why choose series.
Leigh Kelsey is back with another group of psychopaths in Crazed Candy, the first book in the Killer and Kings series. Leigh knows how to write a good psychopath, this book was a hoot but don't let that fool it was also dark af but oh so good.
Aveline Lachesi is an assassin, a demon(ish) for hire and her specialty is killing demons. After growing up with a serial killer dad(ish), Avie is a badass and has plenty of skills to get the job done. Of course, growing up with trauma like that has left Avie broken, she's not all there. She's a strong confident woman but the puzzle pieces don't quite fit and she struggles emotionally. However, she does have a very cheerful disposition and is a smart-alec, even with her violent tendencies really likable.
As for Avie's harem, they consist of four powerful demons, eachAvie's a different race and species, who had already formed a group before they met Avie. The guys match Avie's crazy, maybe even surpass her. Taj is a hot head, Joseph is cuddly, X is obsessive, and Arkan is dominating. Warning this is not really a romance this relationship has dark kinky written all over it. In the beginning, I'm not sure how anyone feels most of the time but as the story goes on feelings most definitely develop just not normally, I mean they are crazy so their relationship doesn't look "normal".
Like I said this book is funny and the best part is the footnotes. Leigh has done footnotes before and they are the best, they let readers, deep dive, into all the crazy. The story revealed some pretty interesting background information about Hell but it just hints about what's happening not going into too much but I wonder how it's gonna play out in the next book.
Crazed Candy is a deliciously dark read, it was funny, exciting, and steamy. The characters are quirky and the story ends in a plot twist that has me asking way too many questions. I'm hoping some of those questions get answered in the next book.
HEROINE: Aveline Lachesi, Candyfloss Killer, daughter of Canine Killer, pink and purple hair, half demon, Gemini, slytherin, fair skin, naturally blonde hair, got kidnapped by a serial killer (also known as Eidolon) when she was a child from a fair,
HERO: Taj, the one who’s uncle died, wavy brown hair, brown eyes, bleeds black,
HERO: X Sinclair, Asian, lilac chin length hair, incubus, deep brown eyes, tattooed, can sense arousal,
HERO: Arkan, wraith, tall, slim, white hair, blue eyes, “emotionless”,
HERO: Joseph, Tall, dad bod, reaper, green brown eyes,
WHAT I LIKED: She is so funny and the footnotes are such a fun little addition. The sex scenes are LONG like pages and pages. I was actually shocked to find out that her dad was Eidolon and finding out he kidnapped others doing the same thing hopping they would also do this.
WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE: I wish we knew more backstory or read flashbacks to her childhood to find out all these training sessions she had to make her a badass. We know she killed her “father” but I wish we could have read bits and pieces that lead up to her breaking point.
FAVORITE QUOTE/SCENE: "I want to worship every inch of you, out in the open where everyone can see me pray at the temple of your body. I want them to watch your body shake and hear your screams as I show you what true, unbearable pleasure from an incubus feels like."
CONDOMS/BC: No
🌶️ LEVEL: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ (3.5)
CHEATING: The only ones having sex are the 4 main men with the Ave.
HEA? Undecided, book 1/3. Second book is out but third is coming to KU in November 2023. She did defeat the villain and land into the arms of the caring devil (calling her babygirl) but we don’t know where the guys are.

My goodness, this was a laugh a minute. The footnotes are freaking hilarious. I would suggest making them part of the normal story to make it flow better but it was such a good read.
OMG I loved this book!! CHECK YOUR TRIGGERS! I loved Avie and all of the demons! This is a very dark, twisted VERY spicy read and I absolutely will be looking for book 2. Avie was raised by someone who tortured her and taught her how to unalive people... well, let me tell you avie is definitely dark and dangerous!
Very confused. From the start of the book I didn’t have a good idea on what’s happening. I got no details on the characters so I couldn’t connect with them. For someone who’s supposed to be a badass fmc she didn’t show it that much. By the end she kept talking about how she wanted her men to save her. Didn’t you not like them? They fucked you a few times and now you don’t care about anything else. Rated it a 4.7-10
I am so impressed with this book. Thr amount of sarcasm and snark is over the top and hilarious. The spice is 10 stars and i cant wait to dive into the next book.
What the ... !? This book is absolutely hilarious, and every time I was laughing I was wondering if something is wrong with me... Because while it's so so SO funny, it's also filled with morally grey (or rather black) characters, blood, multiple unalive attempts (both succesfull and not), and pretty much everything else you can imagine in a crazy black romance. This book is filled with psychos and unhinged characters, and their connections are even more crazy than I could ever imagine.
There are a lot of footnotes in this book. It is perfectly possible to read it without them, but it is absolutely worth the effort to at least read a few of them. They only make the book more hilarious than it already is, and add an extra layer to a book that's already amazing on its own.
Let's mark of all the boxes with this one.... Crazy pshycos....check Steamy scenes that make panties melt....check Insane fighting with crazy gore....check. Just enough cute to go with the super dark...check. Excellent read...double check.
All honesty this book was amazing. A dash of humor hear, some sad stuff there and a whole lot of Pshyco everywhere else. The entire book was mouth watering fun and I am stoked to read book two.
Definitely a recommendation to those that like the odd paranormal phycos out there....plus you cannot go wrong with four hot as "hell" crazies riding along.
our FMC had been trained to be a badass demon, on a break she accidentally kills a stall holder, leading to her encountering four guys who she assesses are demons too. X is an incubus, Joseph is a reaper, Arkan is a wraith and last but not least the ‘mardy’ one Taj is the devils’ son. Turns out they are her soul mates but Aveline being an independent lady and a killer in her own right, doesn’t want anything to do with them that is until they wear her down. The story progresses with mayhem until she is kidnapped and tortured.
Very silly. And the footnotes were a bit much. 87!!!! Footnotes! I kid you not. It made the reading experience much more interactive than it ever should be.
They generally contained humorous quips and irreverent interjections that really should’ve just been added in the text. 87!!! little numbers to click without inadvertently turning the page and cursing at the annoyance. My goodness.
The writing itself is only just okay. The jolting cadence does no favors atop the bafflingly endless addition of footnotes.
And the guys have unique names like Taj, X, Arkan… and then there’s Joseph.
Joseph?! The reaper?! Get outta here.
Taj calls her a bitch way too casually and often. (13 times)
She keeps calling Arkan’s eyes ‘watery’ but I don’t think that’s what she means to say. I’ve only ever read that description in relation to elderly eyes or those of drunkards. Not a good look.
Besides that, the guys aren’t very established characters at all. We know what they generally look like and their demon form but that’s about it. For one thing: we’re only vaguely aware of what the group does for a living, and even that is rather abstract and as far fetched as their apparent identities.
There’s no world building. We don’t know if the townspeople are wary of these guys because they know they’re demons or they just steer clear based off their ~menacing aura.~
They’re not exactly shy with their powers, but it’s inconclusive whether their origin is general knowledge.
Whatever.
We’re not here for realism, but if we’re going to pretend to have a plot, it should probably make at least a little sense.
I did like that Aveline wasn’t one of those girls that an errant breeze could send her to climax, but the spice scenes all came from entirely out of nowhere and yet they were ridiculous enough to fit.
It’s all very cartoonish. Overtly silly to the point that it sometimes feels forced.
Though there are some excerpts that were good enough to encourage continuing to the end.
Luckily so, because the end was as weird as the rest but intriguing enough to maybe attempt the next book.
I don’t know what the hell (heh) is going on, but I’m pretty sure this author doesn’t either. Sometimes it’s fun to be lost together.
Crazed Candy was a hilarious yet twisted read. The main female character, Aveline, is completely nutty but in such a good way. I loved her banter, her wit, and her incredible ability to have some hysterically entertaining inner dialogue. The footnotes Kelsey included were priceless and well worth flipping back and forth between your page locations to read them. It made everything that Aveline did even funnier as we could see how her through process was affected, even during some of the more dire moments. The balance between humor and murder/mayhem made everything flow nicely and kept you entertained at the same time.
The mates in this book were very unexpected and found in the most unlikeliest of places even. After the first encounter, having the men fall over themselves was surprising but it was interesting to see who all was for the mate bond and who all was fighting it. The men were equally as crazy and demented as Avie, her perfect matches really, even if Avie wasn't fully convinced. I think she had finally met her matches though.
That ending! There is so much I could say about how this book ended, but I will keep most of it to myself. Let's just say there are a lot of whammies coming your way. Avie finds out more about her past, some old acquaintances make an appearance, and someone new and unexpected makes their presence known in the best way. I don't know what to expect from this, but I have a feeling what people expect to happen with Avie in hell won't come close to the shenanigans she will get up to there. I'm excited to see what happens when Avie puts her faith in the devil she doesn't know instead of the devil she does.
Leigh Kelsey did an amazing job with this psycho why choose romance, with fated mates and a paranormal setting. I loved reading this book and can't wait to see where Leigh takes this series!
Aveline Lachesi, is an unaliver, her speciality is hunting and unaliving demons. How she grew up she was able to obtain an amazing set of skills, and is a bada$$ in her own right. She isn't untouched by how she grew up, and is a bit broken. Despite that, she is a strong woman who struggles emotionally, she's sarcastic and her outward appearance is happy.
The guys that are her fated mates, are all different species of powerful demons. They formed a group before they met Avie, and luckily they match her crazy, one even surpassing her, maybe. Taj could have fire coming out of his head, Joseph is cuddly like a teddy bear, X is obsessed and wants to team up with her, and Arkan is so cold that ice can form on his body. It's definitely a angsty, k1nky, dark, with a hint of romance. Nothing about their relationship is normal, but it works for them, in some ways. I can't wait to see what happens with their relationships in the next book! We've got some background about Hell, and I'm wondering how that'll play into the story as a whole.
These characters are nothing short of amazing, the story was a mix of dark, action packed, steamy and funny! The plot twist we're left with at the end was definitely concerning but I am sure we'll get the answers in the next book, well hopefully!
WARNING! Cliffhanger! This one rates a 5/5 on my trauma scale- consider yourself warned. Assassin Avi is trying to have a holiday- a peaceful one in the country, where she can relax, and recuperate. It doesn’t take into account the death of a demon, or the four attractive demons who are now seeking reparation. Nor does it take into account the problem stalking said demons…
This was a crazy ride, with an author who definitely went to the Terry Pratchett school of How to use Footnotes! Avi is an interesting character; broken and re-forged in the fires of hell. She is wonderfully wacky, with a laugh out loud hilarious inner monologue that likes to express itself in footnotes. Her demons are hot, equally crazy, and somewhat mean (Avi likes that, because she’s broken). This book was an entertaining read, lots of over the top sexy scenes (check the warnings at the front of the book, they’re not lying) that might just make your hair curl, or leave you clutching your pearls. The characters are all on the morally grey side of things; they’re demonic after all, but it’s given an entertaining and amusing slant. Personally, I enjoyed the story (except for that cliffhanger) and will definitely be reading more- but I’m only going to recommend it for the PNR/RH types that don’t mind their MCs morally grey.
