I just immersed myself in this book, ignoring my phone etc. Badass assassin Nora, her fated mate who she was supposed to assassinate, the action and let's not forget the steamed up pages, had me glued in my reading cushion. Luckily I could forgive Trudie her transgression. Living in Mystic River for a couple of hours was bliss. I received an advanced review copy and leave this review voluntary Thank you BookSirens
We are back in Mystic River to fight the Shadow League! Hutch is the new baker, and Nora is an assassin sent to kill him. Nora's been questioning her assignments for a while now and finding her fated mate as her next target puts things into perspective for her. Nora joins Hutch in trying to bring the Shadow League down. There was so much action and surprises that kept me on the edge of my seat! I am so excited for the next book.
*I received an ARC from the author for my honest review*
This Mystic/Cove series is like a giant jigsaw puzzle. Each story adds another piece. Hutch and Nora’s story is a great additional piece in this puzzle. How they find each other and realize they are fated mates is a wonderful read. We also get some additional tidbits about Colby’s mate and the Shadow League. Can’t wait for next instalment to find out what happens next.
This series just keeps getting better and better with each new book! I love the multiple layers of mystery and suspense with each book adding a new piece to the complicated and complex puzzle.
Nora is definitely a warrior princess and matched Colby Reynolds step for step which was fascinating to see. I loved her pairing with Hutch, and the irony of her being sent to kill the man who is her fated mate.
This series is addictive and has me super eager for more books and great couples!

'Hidden Mate' is the eighth book in Delta James' epic "Mystic River Shifters" series. The tension is building as things continue to come to a head. Secrets are coming out and then finding out friends are secret enemies. Even though I normally hate cliffhangers except when the storyline is this good and I have to admit that the author has done a dayum fine job. Congratulations Ms. James.
The story is part of the new Mystic River Shifters. It will have a great cast of characters, including humans and shifters. To fully understand the character's interactions and progression of events, it is best if they are read in written order because it is an ongoing saga. Each story picks up from where the last one left off (especially within the epilogue.) This story will be about Abraham Strode, Nora Blake, and Erik Hutchinson.
“Abraham Strode is very wealthy. He’s been looking for a girl like you to adopt.”
Abraham: I like you, Nora Blake. You’re mature for your age and speak your mind. I think we would do well together. You have special abilities, which I doubt anyone within the system knows anything about. I could teach you how to use those skills and about the world. Nora: And what would I have to do? Abraham: Learn from me. Be my shadow and on occasion run and accomplish errands and small jobs for me. I won’t lie to you; the tasks will become more dangerous as you get older, but I will endeavor to keep you safe. After all, the longer we’re together, the more time and money I will have invested in you.
The Shadow League needs to eliminate key players that could hamper their efforts and that is where Nora comes in as the Ghost, a highly trained and skilled assassin. Her new assignment will take her to Mystic River, Alaska to eliminate Erik ‘Hutch’ Hutchinson. But this won’t be easy because there have already been multiple failed attempts and that will have him on alert. What happens when Nora meets Hutch and recognizes him as her fated mate? If Nora fails in her mission from the Master, he will send someone to finish the job and take her out too. It isn’t long before Nora realizes that there is at least one, if not more moles planted by the Master.
The story is surrounded by secrets and is full of mystery, suspense, and intrigue, with good versus evil, and is leading up to a battle that will be coming soon. Sides are changing as the Master puppets are cutting their strings and major change is coming. Now that they know who the Master is, they understand more what they are up against, but also will possibly be able to recruit vital players to destroy the Shadow League.
“They’d thwarted the Master once. They would do so again and again until they beat him down, and he could no longer rise. They would be triumphant, but for now, she could allow peace to reign in her dreams.”
Simply wonderful read, great addition to the series which I loved and await next book in series
Nora had been recruited by the Master at the age of child that he had known her details and her ability to shift to a clouded leopard which she had not any knowledge of as she had been in a child of the social services.
Now an adult the Master has trained her to become a fully trained assassin and her name is feared by anyone in that field, her working name is The Ghost. She has been sent to mystic falls and her target is an ex-military man known as Nash.
When she gets to the town, they instantly know that she is a shifter as all of the inhabitants are most definitely the same and they move freely within Mystic Falls, changing into their shifter forms whenever they desire without any problems from other inhabitants.
When Nora first sees Nash, she knows that she is going to have to make a life changing decision, with the Master pressuring her constantly and also threatening her, she knows that he has definitely got a spy in the town passing on what ever they say back to her nemesis.
Nash is instantly aware that Nora is his hated mate but his inner beast is also crying out “Danger” and as there have already been several failed attempts to assassinate him he knows to take nothing at first sight.
Nora had heard of fated mates but had never believed the stories but the day she walked into his bakery there was no doubt she felt her inner beast crying out for its mate and the human side of her felt an attraction so deep it was impossible mot to want him as her mate but they would have to devise a great plan.
Nora and Nash had gone to see Colby who is one of the main parts of the resistance and has also had an attempted hit that had fortunately missed because of Nash’s fast action.
I do not want to spoil the plot for readers but I will stress that things are definite hotting up as the resistance gain more important individuals and they are also partnered with The Fire Starter Alliance along with the continued attempt to have the Dragons join their fight as well.
I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read. I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.
Hidden Mate, Mystic River Shifters: Book 8, is the latest entry to the series. Sooooo EXCITING!!! I don’t know how Delta James does it, but she does, and I’m glad she does!
No spoilers here, but… Things are really heating up in Mystic River. There’s a shifter war coming, and both sides are trying to make pre-emptive strikes, to take out key players.
Erik Hutchinson felt he could finally retire from military life; he’d earned a chance to find peace. Mystic River might just be the place. (😆🤣😆)
Nora Blake was the top assassin, in the control of the Shadow League. Guess who her latest assignment is?
The good guys seldom have a smooth course, so it’s only fair that the bad guys have trouble too. And… since it’s Delta James … things will get twisty as only she can make them. Meaning, there’s plenty of steam involved!
There are some major reveals in this story. Fated mates anyone? I love the newest couple! Erik is dominant, but doesn’t dominate Nora. Erik & Nora are well matched, in both their human & shifter forms. As a long time reader, I actually think I prefer this type of dynamic.
And not all the players have been identified. There might even be more ‘new’ shifter species, always interesting. There’s plenty more action to come.
Whether you keep up with the stories as they come out, or prefer to wait and binge-read, this is a fantastic series. I’m not sure how many entries are left, or how much the story line will continue to cross between Mystic River, Otter Cove, and Phantom Fire, but I’ll be here for them all. It’s gonna be EPIC!!! And, I think, once they ARE all resolved, I may have to read them all again as a binge. Thank you Delta James for a wild and crazy ride, that I definitely want to keep coming back to.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
As soon as I finish reading these books, I can't wait for the next book in the series. I haven't anticipated a conclusion since waiting to find out who shot JR Ewing! Absolutely love the characters and stories by this author. Highly recommend! Must read!
Nora Blake was adopted by Abraham Strode, a wealthy ancient dragon shifter known as the Master, and works for him as an assassin known as the Ghost. She is a cloud leopard shifter. She uses her travel writer/blogger job as a cover. She has one close friend Fallon Kent.
Erik Hutch Hutchinson is former military and a cloud leopard shifter. After he mustered out he traveled to Ottowa where Colby Reynolds tried to recruit him for the resistance. He now lives in Mystic River and owns the bakery.
The Master wields power over the Council and has taken control of the Shadow League. He sends Nora to Alaska to kill Hutch. Nora creates an elaborate cover in order to be accepted at Mystic River. When she arrives in town Jax Miller meets her boat and brings her to the bakery. As soon as she meets Hutch's eyes she realizes he is her fated mate. She asks him out to dinner. They start dating which makes her reject her latest assignment and join the resistance. They stage a fake death for the Master's benefit and go to Windsong. They know there is a mole or more in town feeding information to the Master. She finds out the identity of one of the moles. The Master finds out she lied and tells her to kill Hutch and Colby. He also takes Fallon hostage to ensure her cooperation. He also sends a hybrid monster to kill Nora. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This series is sp amazing, and it keeps getting better! Not even sure how that's possible at this point, but Delta just keeps creating these fabulous characters that bring her world to life in a natural "well of course" type way that I can see clearly but only after she paves the way. Hutch and Nora , while different in many ways, have lived a life they look back on with grave memories. Hutch more because of failures to save and succees, while Nora regrets her choice not to question her choices sooner. Despite her concerns, I was moved by how fiercely Hutch defended Nora the child, doing what was ñecessary to survive.
Technically this can be read as a standalone aline, but there is an arc that runs through the series. At this point there will be struggles picking up some of the references and innuendo if you have not read prior books in the series. There is still much up in the air with regard to the Shadow League and the Resistance. Hutch has found his Nora, but will they be able to stay together, or will the Master force them apart? Nora's friend Fallon is safe, or is she? I think this ride is only getting started guys. Buckle up and hold on!!
I receive an ARC of this book and voluntarily provide this review. I enjoyed reading it emensely and recommend it (and the entire series) whole heartedly. Happy Reading Y'all 📚
With some in trepidation I started reading. I was full of many questions & without giving too much away, the author brilliantly answered them all and then some in a beautifully emotionally charged story. We find out who the real villain is and how he created his right-hand woman. How she didn't give up completely on her humanity. How right both Nora and Hutch are for each other. How well Colby knows he's fated mate. How far the villain's reach is & who he's afraid of, who are the irritants, who he thinks he can control, & who he ignores. All of whom are coming together as a resistance force.
We also learn the background of Hutch and why he loves to bake. He's seen too much to take it slow with Nora. Her ability to accept and love after the way she was raised shows great strength. Both are equals & no whining about what was in the past or guilt trips.
This book managed to move the story forward, flesh out the villain, and not lose the love story of Nora and Hutch while keeping the secondary characters strong. The author is seamlessly interweaving three - possible four - distinct series into one without losing the traits that make those series unique. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Every book written by this author amazes me. I just cannot image she how she is able to bring out three series - in this case: The Mystic River Shifters, The Winged Warriors and the Otter Cove Shifters, where they are strongly interconnected with the over-arching story and still keep every couple's story unique and fresh. When you think the author has written it all, out comes a new story and she proves you wrong.
Nora and Hutch, starting on opposite sides of the conflict, quickly realize they are fated mates. There is no question at all about it and neither fights it. Nora dissatisfied with her life, has no problem making changes when she meets Hutch. The question becomes, can she do it before danger shows up on her doorstep. She will do what she needs to do to ensure her happy ever after, even if it means betraying someone of great influence in her life. I loved the hot and steamy romance between Nora and Hutch. I loved revisiting characters from earlier books and I continue to be hooked to the intrigue, mystery and suspense that is growing through each book, leading up to what I think is going to be an epic conclusion.

"This is a Stunning, and Exciting Shifter Romance series"
You will love each, and every storyline in this series. They will keep you glued to the pages. Apophis is an ancient Dragon Shifter. He had been banished to a cave on a island fort Devon. There he slept for centuries. Till a spell that had been cast upon him was broken. He swore vengeance. So he changed his name to Abraham Strode. Became rich and power. He then adopted an orphan girl named Nora.Who is a clouded leopard shifter. He raised her to be the most cunning assassin known as the Ghost. He used her for his vengeance. He also took control of the shadow league. A group of paranormal killers. Who had been controlled by the paranormal Council. He sends her to Mystic River Alaska. To kill a man named Erik Hutchinson aka hutch. Erik used to be in the military special ops. Till the shadow league killed his unit. He is also a clouded leopard. When Nora and Erik meet things change! As Erik turns out to be her fated mate! Now what is she going to do?
You will love this funny, exciting, fun to read ,scorching hot shifter romance series. It is a five star plus series!
The main female character, Nora, is complicated and brilliant. She was an orphan who in a way sold her childhood so she could survive and live a life of culture and means she would never otherwise get a chance for. Trained to kill and spy by an evil and denied love and connection. Despite this, when she finds her fated mate and community that is willing to embrace her she is more than willing to walk away from the life she knew for something new and better.
Hutch isn't so bad either. An old soldier who has seen too much and now just wants a simple life making bread. He is reluctant to get involved with all the cloak-and-dagger stuff intent he realizes that is the only way he can keep his mate. I am disappointed we didn't get to know more about Hutch's life before becoming a soldier.
I am disappointed that Nora didn't get a big face-off with her 'Master' but maybe that will be in a future book.
I liked that we got a lot of Colby in this book and it made me drool thinking about when his book is finally out. I look forward to reading what comes of the coming shifter war.

This book stars Nora, raised to become an expert assassin for the Shadow League, known to the world as "The Ghost", and Hutch, a retired military person who is now owner of a bakery in the town of Mystic River. When Nora is tasked with assassinating Hutch, she has no idea that he is her fated mate. As she tries to reconcile her mission with her feelings for Hutch, she has to decide which way she wants her future to go.
I enjoyed this book - it's part of the Mystic River Shifters series, so if you haven't read the previous books, you can read this one as it can be read standalone, but you'll get more out of it if you read the other books first. I wasn't sure how I would feel about having an assassin as one of the main characters, but I found it very interesting and I liked Nora's character. She's a total bada$$, but in her own way she's an honorable person. Hutch is also pretty cool, he's also a strong, protective character, and they make a great couple. I definitely would recommend this book!
I received an ARC copy, but the opinions expressed are solely my own.
I find I can't get enough of these types of books. I love the interacting stories of the Mystic River/Otter Cove/Phantom Fire. Delta James keeps getting better and better with each story.
This one is about a young woman named Nora Blake who is a trained assassin known as the Ghost. She keeps to the shadows and kills without anyone knowing who the killer is; just that the Ghost killed again. No-one knows who the Ghost is or that she is a woman. Nora works for the person who raised her, who is her mentor and who is the leader of the Shadow League. She never misses when sent to kill.
Nora is sent to kill Erik Hutchinson (Hutch). He is ex-military and just wants a quiet life. He has taken over the Northern Lights bakery in Mystic River and has settled down as baker for the town.
Nora discovers that she cannot kill Hutch. He is her fated mate.
When she does not kill him assassins are sent to kill Nora but Hutch will protect her with his life.

If you've been actively following the Mystic River Shifters series then this is definitely a must to add to your collection, as it is another fantastic addition of wonderful characters and scenarios to the overall series and the 'bigger' storyline that connects all the other stories to give readers such an incredible treat into this mysterious, sultry and dramatic series. Often after finishing one book I think how that couple were my favourite but then I go onto read the next book and yeap, I find I have new favourites! How on earth can an Author develop such a continuity of interesting and delicious characters?
To the reader that has just found the works of Delta James, simply said you will be in for one thoroughly satisfying journey devouring not only this title but the whole series. In saying that, my best advice is to start at the very beginning to get the basics of this wonderfully created series.

This book was awesome. The fight scenes, to me at least, felt like I was watching a video in my head. Nora is chosen by Abraham Strode to be his ward. They have quite a few exceptional things in common. She grows up to be his ‘hand.’ She lives in Boston when she isn’t ’on assignment.’ Her only true friend is a human by the name of Fallon Kent. Nora grew up with the finest of things, the best education, etc. Her next assignment is Erik ‘Hutch’ Hutchinson in Mystic River, Alaska. However, she gets the shock of her life. I really loved this book as there is just so many reveals in it. Plus, the fact that a lot of the previous books’ couples are in it too. Strode is just terrifying, especially when they explain who he was. *shudders* Knowing Egyptian myths as I do, *shakes head* he is just dang scary. But, Nora is amazing and don’t get me started on Erik. I totally fell in love with him and Nora, tho she is scary too. We finally get to find out who the mole in Mystic River is that has been alluded to for the past few books. So yay. But there are more questions now. I can’t wait for the next book.
I received this advance reading copy for free and am voluntarily leaving this review.
The tension is building, secrets are slowing coming out, the Ghost has now been sent to assassinate Hutch but can she, after all he’s her fated mate?
Nora knows the Shadow League won’t be pleased when she cannot complete her mission, there are spies everywhere and danger around every corner but she must protect her mate at all costs!
Hutch retired from the military and recognizes Nora as his mate the moment she stepped into his Bakery but he could sense something was off! Saving her became his first priority and when things started to escalate he would do anything to save his mate.
A hot, action packed, page-turning sizzling read with lots of amazing characters and an epilogue that will leave you begging for more!
Another fantastic Delta James read! Can’t wait for the next one! Such an amazing author!

Nora Blake starts out as a trained assassin for her Master, a man who adopted her as a child and taught her to be a killer, while also providing a good education and a roof over her head. She is known as the Ghost and her allegiance is to the Shadow League. The League has been embedded in all the stories in this series and the secrets of the League unfold in 'Hidden Mate'.
Erik Hutchinson (Hutch) is a former military special ops soldier and is in the Shadow League's target. The Master sends Nora to assassinate him; however, he meets her and realizes she is his fated mate and she is instantly attracted to him. Of course, this complicates her original reason for being in Mystic River, which is to kill Hutch.
This story has layers upon layers of intrigue, choices, romance, and discovering priorities. Once again, Delta James does not disappoint.

She’s the Ghost, but not of the harmless variety. She slips invisibly into and out of places without a trace, leaving a dead body behind. As an assassin, Nora Blake is both highly skilled and unquestioningly obedient to her master – until she recognizes her latest assignment as her fated mate.
When Erik “Hutch” Hutchinson retired from the military, he found the peace he was seeking in Mystic River, Alaska, where he opened a bakery and settled into small town living. But after several attempts on his life fail, he’s suddenly on high alert.
When Nora refuses to kill her target, her master orders her death and it’s her mate who comes to her rescue. Now Nora and Hutch find themselves fighting against hidden enemies in a deadly game of intrigue.
Another page-turner in the Mystic River Shifters series, with great characters, a well-crafted plot and plenty of romance and steam.

Delta James "Hidden Mate" weaves a thrilling narrative of love and danger, exploring the unlikely connection between Nora Blake, an assassin known as the Ghost, and Erik Hutchinson, a retired military man seeking peace.
The characters, Nora and Hutch, are skillfully crafted with layers of complexity, making them both compelling and relatable. Nora, marked by a life in the shadows, and Hutch, seeking solace in a quiet bakery, find themselves drawn to each other in a way that defies logic.
The plot unfolds as the Shadow League, a powerful force in the shadows, threatens their newfound connection. James expertly navigates the intricacies of power struggles, creating a perilous labyrinth that adds suspense to the narrative.
The book seamlessly blends passion, danger, and unlikely alliances, creating a narrative that captivates from beginning to end. I'm looking forward to the next books.

It was a little is a surprise Hudson a retired soldier turned baker just looking for a place to after losing his unit and almost getting killed, comes to Mystic River. Here be buys the bakery were he starts his new life but, the forces of evil want him dead and send a killer after him. Nora his fated mate had a somewhat of a bad childhood bought by a guy with money do what ever he wanted her to do. She was trained to be the most talented killer in the world and sent after Hudson. What a surprise to her when she walks into the bakery to see her mark that he's her fated mate one that she didn't think she would get. They have to over come the fact that they are at cross hairs and that masters wants Hudson dead. Being that there are people in town that can come between them and she must turn her back on the master, what's she going to do? You'll have to read to find out , but I loved this one just one big cliff hanger.
This is the 8th book of the Mystic Rivers/Cove series by Delta James and as someone else noticed “it is like a giant jigsaw puzzle. Each story adds another piece.” This is Erik Hutchinson (Hutch) (former military special ops soldier and target for the League) and Nora’s (trained assassin for her Master) story is a great additional piece in this puzzle. How they meet and interact, then realize they are fated mates is beautiful. There was twists and turns, suspense, danger, and intrigue just to name some things you have come to expect. We also have some hints about Colby’s Mate and the Shadow League. I just can’t wait for next instalment to find out what happens next. Please hurry Delta, the suspense is killing!!!! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Nora Blake was an orphaned child who was adopted as a teen by Abraham, a powerful Dragon shifter who was searching for a girl with shifter genes to train as an assassin, working to kill without a trace...she never questioned her targets until assigned to kill a baker in the small Alaskan town of Mystic River. Erik Hutchinson, AKA Hutch, spent years in the military and was known for planning and strategy, but was wary since his team killed by shifters, when he reported to headquarters, had a close call car accident, and then a shooter in airport when met by Colby Reynolds, who needs his planning expertise for the upcoming war with Shadow League missed. When he met Nora, knew immediately that she was his fated mate....but will she be able to complete her assignment or die herself for failure??? I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
What a great addition to the series! Someone else mentioned in their review that each book is another puzzle piece in a giant puzzle. That is the best analogy that I have heard. We got one more piece of the puzzle and are close to seeing the fully finished puzzle. I hope the author will post a list of the books to read chronologically, regardless of the series. That would be awesome!
We finally learn the identity of the Master, even though we haven't received their motivation. We also learn who the Ghost is as she is sent to assassinate Hutch, only to be stopped by the complication of him being her fated mate. Every new book quickly becomes my favorite!
I received an advance copy, and this is my honest review.
Wow, wow, wow. These book are so interwoven and yet each love story stands on their own. Nora and Erik are two loners, both who have seen too much. I loved how Nora consistently did her job (which by the way she'd been groomed for since childhood) until she stumbled upon her fated mate and suddenly all bets were off. Erik is longing for peace and quiet but with the shadow league in motion and assassins all around he's knocked for a loop when worlds collide and his fated mate walks in the door. These two throw caution to the wind and decide to fight for each other. The romance is yummy and the action scenes thrilling. The mole, OMG, I was sad, then relieved, holy cow. Soo good and I can't wait for the BFF's story.
This is a suspenseful series. I have enjoyed every book. The backstory is getting more complex.
The ghost. She is an exceptional shifter. Her story of growing up was interesting. Even at an early age she was intelligent , observant and could come to conclusion quickly. A very strong person.
Hutch has seen more violence in his life than most people. I loved how he first met Nora. He's protective of her. I like the decisions he made, especially the ones Colby asked of him.
Action from the first page. The epilogue is a window to the next delicious story.
The plot was well thought out. Unforeseen twists, spice and steam to the romance and the perfect HEA for Hutch and Nora. Well written I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Nora was an orphan that is taken in by an ancient dragon who trains her to be an assassin. When her master sends her after Erik Hutchinson in Mystic River her life is about to change. Erik left the military after his unit was attacked and he survived. While leaving the airport he and Colby are attacked by a sniper. Erik buys the bakery in Mystic River and settles in. When Nora arrives he is attracted to her but his gut is saying she is not only dangerous but his fated mate. For the first time, Nora is conflicted in doing her assignment but her Master has spies that are watching her. There are plenty of twists and turns in this book that I did not see coming. I highly enjoyed reading this book and cannot wait for the next installment.
