Growing up and hearing about former President John F. Kennedy from family members, mentioning how appreciative they were to have him in office, says a lot. Although I wasn't born around that time, the humanitarian side of him and his family are reasons why I would forever be glad to learn about him. Unfortunately, that could also be short-lived when you learn the truth about those with the friendliest and kindest smiles. Individuals hold power in convenient positions, and are completely aware of how their decisions could affect others, yet do not care because they believe it would be justified as an act for the "greater good." Only time would reveal exactly if it were indeed beneficial.
In "JFK FYI," author Gary B. Haley gave his readers a rundown on who JFK was despite what the American people were led to believe. JFK was an individual who didn't care about his status or the fame behind the family name, but more about the opportunities that brought on changes. Throughout his life there were lots of challenges and hurdles, many people felt things were easier for him because of his family, which was a toss-up. Along with other members of the family set in high places, the Kennedys seem to have had the influence necessary for success. You'll read and learn things about Cuba, the root of its controversy, and its ambassador's hatred towards the U.S.
The writing style of this book is like a recollection journal entry, giving the readers a peek and privy to unknown information if you weren't within the circle of politicians. An interesting tidbit mentioned was that illegal activities aided the election and made it successful in JFK's favor. However, it paints a new perspective as most were not aware of the kind of pull he had to get anything he wanted. So much went on under the guise and noses of the American people, yet the realization could be difficult to accept. When reality sets in, the confusion will be clear, and the world will undergo yet another change. Through reading this book, I now understand and view from a witness standpoint the corruption occurring with those in higher ranks. I enjoyed reading about the interesting facts and information I did not know of when it came to JFK because one can no longer claim blissful ignorance. I highly suggest others read this book for them to experience a rude awakening.
