Ivy Smoak is the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, and Amazon #1 bestselling author of The Hunted Series. Her books have sold over 4 million copies worldwide.
When she's not writing, you can find Ivy binge watching too many TV shows, taking long walks, playing outside, and generally refusing to act like an adult. She lives with her husband in Delaware.
I wanted to like this story because it was about James and Penny; however, it became a very boring rehash of beating a dead horse over and over and finally killing it. I also did not like the ending of this novel as it was just a blatant Marketing hook for Empire High. The best thing about this novel ifor me is that James and Penny’s drawn out romance is finally over and there will be no more rehash of their story. My recommendation is not to waste valuable reading time on this very boring rehash.
I loved Loved and was so excited to receive an ARC. In this final book from James Hunter’s point of view, you get a little of everything. Some chapters had me laughing so hard while others I was a blushing bride. This book shows us that under that wild, rich bachelor persona, he just wants someone to love him. I believe he finds that in the Hunted series and especially in this book. Not just with our favorite heroine Penny but in other ways too. Sit back and get ready for grocery store shenanigans, billiards games, late night videos, flaming taco toilet paper, a Thanksgiving special, fist fights and secret notes. This is a must read. Ivy gives us a perfect ending to a book we never knew we needed - a sneak peak into James Hunter’s head!
This entire story should have originally been told from the perspective of James Hunter. If it weren’t for James and Rob I would have given up after Temptation (The Hunted Series book 1). Penny is an incredibly annoying character with little depth. James on the other hand had life experience and stories to tell. I was so glad to have been able to learn more about him before he became Professor Hunter. I had tears in my eyes from laughing so hard at the Harvard story. I was also glad to have some gaps filled in from the Hunted Series, like what happened with Isabella when James went to NYC and a little more about their move after leaving Delaware. I would love to know more about the two and a half years between the end of this story and where The Light to My Darkness picks up. Oh well.
I loved everything about James POV. It was great hearing is take on his and Penny’s love story. Heartbreaking the way he grew up and the ways his parents treated him. Horrible being married to Isabella. It sucked when his character kept being attacked. Nevertheless. Penny is James light at the end of the tunnel and I love that for him. I would recommend this book to anyone that loves a spicy second chance. I gave this book 5 stars because Ivy showed us how important our mental health is and just like James through hard work we too can breathe.
Ugh, what to say about this book! It was the perfect ending, and i just....sorry trying to hold back the tears lol . The fact that Penny brought them all back together was just absolutely beautiful. I'm sad James and Penny are done, but i have all the books (well almost all of them lol) to reread over and over again. This is by far my favorite series of all time. Thank you, Ivy, for bringing us these characters and this beautiful world. ❤️
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
James, the man you want even though there are red flags flying everywhere. Penny, the girl that’s obviously in love. Read the entire series, and you’ll thank Ivy.
It doesn’t even resolve the major plot of the series. Professor Hunter has multiple girls claiming harassment against him and there’s an investigation by the school and possibility for criminal charges. So James and Penny give a statement to the press and move out of state. The end. Like, what? The investigation is never concluded, the girls never recant their claims, there’s no resolution. There are some decent steamy scenes but man did this book need a lot of work. The whole series was a letdown.
I was given an ARC of Loved. I always loved James from the first time I ever read Temptation. He will always be my all-time favorite. But after reading loved, I fell more in love with James. Ivy, you always know how to tug at my heart strings with your words. You will always be my favorite Author. You made me fall in love with reading all over again when I found you 8 years ago. And I can't thank you enough for writing all these books that make me feel all the emotions. ❤️
Oh...James Hunter! I'm not really sure I've really accepted that this is the end of Penny and James' story. I know that they are intertwined with other novels (yay), but there is something about The Hunted Series and The Professor Hunter Series that got to me. James' POV was bought in at the end of The Hunted Series, and it was everything, so I'm so frickin' glad we got three beautiful books with his POV.
Spread across the original novels Temptation and Addiction in parallel with Penny's POV, parts were just a rehash of those (sorry, Ivy) and fell flat in places. It begins at the point where Isabella has gone to press and broken the news that James had an affair with Penny, and all hell breaks loose. Still, I definitely prefer it from Penny's perspective, and if anything, there wasn't enough of James' inner voice, there was far too much speech used, and I found it disjointed at times.
For some reason, Rob seemed sleazy in this book, although I love both Hunter brothers. Part of me felt awkward. Their drunken prank was messy, but I loved it; it wouldn't have worked sober as a drunk James was a giggle. I still imagine Ian looking like Grant Mitchell (Ross Kemp) from Eastenders. If you know, you know! I will never look at tacos the same way again (hehe). Also, Brandon will always confuse me! He has no frickin' purpose. Please tell me that he has a reason at some point because it's annoying as hell.
In book three of the Hunted Series, we get the time jump to New York and the wedding planning, so I do appreciate the New York chapters at the end with Matt and Mason. However, it was slightly odd because he shared memories with Dr Clark falling out with Matt and Mason after college due to Brooklyn and obviously Isabella. However, when he tells Penny, he talks about it being after high school after the funeral. I'm hoping when I read the rest of the Empire Series, it will make sense, but I was slightly confused.
Another thing was Penny and James describe their first meeting in the coffee shop when he spills coffee over her and offers her his sweater, and I'm sure she heads to her comms lecture, and he's the professor the same day, but in this book, James and Penny say the next day! I almost want to re-read the whole series to match it up!
There are some super cute and sexy James and Penny moments which mirror the original. When he goes to her dorm and holds her after her awful day at college, and when he's drunk, he tells Penny that she doesn't love him. The vulnerability in those moments, for me, was the best in the book.
On the whole, I love this series! James Hunter had my heart by book two of The Hunted Series and had a choke hold on me throughout what came after. He's a complex guy with a big heart and an even bigger sex drive, and the steam in this book was good. I initially gave it four stars, but on reflection this morning, something didn't excite me enough.
Three and a half stars! Sad it's over, but Ivy can't write about them forever, and we still have Empire High and Scarlet Book Two to experience a little bit of them. Good read.
When things go from bad to worse. Just when you think it is over with Isabella, she strikes again. This time, she involves all of them, James, Penny, Rob, Matt, & Mason. Not only is Isabella up to no good, but it seems a few people at the college also cross the line. The turn of events forces James to make a few spur of the moment decisions that he's not sure will go over well. Only time will tell.
I didn't dislike these books. It's just that I wasn't drawn into the story like I thought I would be. All 3 books have insane amount of smut, and it was hot, but I just had a hard time with the storyline. I feel like James needed to come clean with his thoughts about what Isabella did to him. At least to Penny. The whole truth about the cameras never came out, and I feel like it all could have been explained considering Isabella escaped from the "circus." LOL, she just can't be trusted. Also, it never goes into details about Penny talking to her parents about all the happenings in her life. I feel like that could have been touched on or at least James telling her to talk to them about everything. These are life milestones I'm talking about here. It's not asking about the weather! Maybe Penny's story (The Hunted Series) goes into more detail. I'm wondering if I should give them a try or move on? I'm thinking I'll move on.......
What can you expect? 📝PROFESSOR/STUDENT 💍AGE GAP 📝SPICY 💍POSSESSIVE BILLIONAIRE HERO 📝HEA 💍MMC POV 📝ROM-COM
James Hunter…AKA Professor Hunter is an OG book boyfriend for me and my reading journey. The Hunted series is where Penny and James story originates from, but Loved is book 3 of the Hunted series from James’ POV.
James’ POV incorporates how insecure he feels and how horrible of a place he was in prior to meeting Penny and how desperate he is for someone to just love him. The third book highlights him finally understanding how much Penny loves him and just wants him for him.
There’s spice, there’s laughter, grocery store shenanigans and big life decisions and the cutest of proposals on his end. There’s new relationships and old and naughty videos to up the ante. So so sad to be done with the Hunters’ world for now, but I know we’ll see them again before we know it. Now on to mending Matt’s heart. ❤️
I know, I know. It took me forever to post my review but I promise it’s for a good reason. I delayed starting this book because I honestly did not want Penny and James to end. They are one of my favorite fictional couples and one of the only books I reread, because, yes I hate doing rereads. The Hunted Series is one of my exceptions because it is that good!! Loved, the third and final installment from James’ point of view is dare I say it… spicier than Devoured! The way that Ivy gets into James’ head and is able to convey his thoughts is just *chef’s kiss.* I am a sucker for a dual point of view book and when Ivy decided to write from James’ point of view it truly completed my favorite book series. I felt all the feels with this book. I laughed because Penny is so endearingly awkward, I got flustered and hot because James is just 🔥 And I cried because their love is unlike any other.
So I am at a true place of neutrality about this series. It’s not that I didn’t like it - but I’m not sure I loved it either.
To be honest, I fell for the whole professor/student trope. It did turn out I got more than I bargained for. It felt very “50 Shades” where we have James, a man with a tortured past that can’t seem to allow himself to heal/move forward. He meets Penny at a coffee shop & can’t stop thinking of her. The next day, he finds that she’s one of his students.
One thing I didn’t care for in the first 2 books was the constant circling between we are happy, something dramatic happened, we fight, now we are having a steamy make up session….rinse & repeat. It was frustrating.
By book 3, I did really like seeing the growth in both Penny & James. The circle of crazy chilled out and they actually started making progress together as a couple.
I will also mention that I didn’t realize this was a POV for James to a series that already exists from Penny’s POV. While I am not sure I want to jump back on the crazy train….i do think I will eventually go back at read her side of the story to see if i can find some clarity in their story.
I’m sad this is finished…… Ahhh James Hunter why aren’t you real and my husband 😍 This book is number 3 from our gorgeous hero’s POV and if you love Penny and James this won’t disappoint, I did think reading it from his POV would be like reading the books again but nope just hearing from James kind of broke me a little throughout his 3 books. It seems like he has it all but our James is a broken man and I could cry from some of his thoughts as he just wanted to be loved, loved for himself and who he is and Penny is perfect for him. Some lol moments too and I want to say so much more but as this is an ARC I received I really don’t want to spoil it for anyone but I know you will love this book. After I read it I told myself in a month or so I’m going to start again from Penny’s first book but then read James’ pov for book one etc so I can see both sides as it’s happening. Honestly I’m not just saying this because I received the ARC this book and their story / journey make this couple one of my all time favourite couples I have ever read about and I know their books are ones I have and will reread time and time again. Happy Reading x
This is the final book in The Hunted series from James Hunter’s point of view, and I’m so glad Ivy gave us these books from his perspective. If you love James and Penny, then this additional series will not disappoint. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll swoon, you’ll reminisce, ride the rollercoaster of highs and lows with the characters, and fall in love all over again.
I really enjoy that Ivy isn’t just being repetitive with the storyline but having it directly correlate with the previous books. She takes those original stories, puts a new twist on it, and provides us with new information that we weren’t privy to before. These books truly dive into James’ mind, desires, and yearning for acceptance to be truly loved. And seeing all the other characters again is an added plus!
I know this isn’t the last time we’ll see James and Penny since so many of Ivy’s series are interconnected. But I definitely will have a newfound respect for this couple anytime we get glimpses of them in the future. So, if you loved The Hunted series, I HIGHLY recommend picking up the Professor Hunter series.
You know, you fall in love with characters and their stories sometimes, but forget how much you enjoy them because you read so many other things... especially when it's been years since you've been in their world. That's what I did. I remember enjoying being in James and penny's world, but I had totally forgotten the feeling, because its been a long time. Reading this book, however, was like reuniting with old friends I haven't seen in ages. We picked up exactly where we left off, like no time has passed. It's so nice in these books to see the events that happened from the other side too, and oh my gosh I laughed out loud at half of them. Rob was, is, and will always be my book husband. I adore him. And I'm so pleased he had such a role in this book! A lot of people have said it's sad that this is goodbye to these characters... but it really isn't goodbye. There's still EH8 that we'll see them in, and Scarlett's story, so they're going nowhere yet. If you read and enjoyed the Hunted Series from Penny's POV, then I do definitely recommend reading the story from James's POV too. Loved ♡
*** I received an advanced copy and chose to review it *** ** 100% spoiler-free review ** * 5 amazing stars *
Ivy Smoak once again delivered the story we never knew we needed! In the last installment of James and Penny's story from his POV, we get it all, perfectly packaged in a phenomenal story. You'll laugh, you'll cry, and you'll laugh some more. No, really...you WILL laugh and laugh and laugh because, well....ROB! ;)
There's familiar content and there's new content, all of it put together impeccably as only Smoak can do. She makes us once again fall in love with Penny and James, over and over, and over again! There are ups and downs but it all ends on a high, tying up their story in the best of ways. And, as always, the spice level in this book is off-the-charts! That is one area that Smoak always delivers in spades. Add in James's friends and his brother Rob and you get the ultimate package in this story. Everything about it shined. I'm so going to miss Penny and James but knowing things turned out exactly as they did makes my heart happy. 5 stars
Oh, James Hunter, my OG book boyfriend. I’m still not convinced this is the end!
The third book in the Professor Hunter series… swoon. I have to say, I have truly loved this series from James’ POV & really think it’s some of Ivy’s best work. Now, on to the book review!
It goes without saying James’ POV has been my favorite. But I loved seeing more of Rob in this book, because, well, it’s Rob. He’s the best! Also, Ellen & Ian… ♥️. We see a totally different side to their relationship with James, & even though they’re employees, they are truly his family.
My favorite from what we’ve seen before: James’ proposal!! We are wondering what James was talking to Melissa about in the Hunted Series & what the heck he was doing in NY. Seeing it from his POV & then hearing his proposal again made it so much better!!
My favorite from what’s new: Everything Rob. He is LOL funny! But the visit to Professor McCarty, pretty entertaining!! Also, I didn’t mind Matt Caldwell dropping in at the end of the book ♥️
I did feel like the book ended kind of abruptly, but it also may be my denial (or hope that it’s not really the end). I’m not sure what I was hoping for, but it was just kind of over & I was not ready!! With that being said, I loved this book as well as the entire series! If you have or haven’t read the predecessor the Hunted Series, I could not recommend this series enough!!! (But please Ivy, give us one more 😉)!
Gah, my heart! This final book from James’ perspective is a convergence of Ivy’s Hunted series and Ivy’s Empire High series. We get insights into these characters that help us understand what we never knew was missing from these other series and I loved it.
You should definitely read the Hunted series AND the two previous books in this series before starting this book.
While not necessary, it would also be helpful to have read the Empire High series.
THOUGHTS 💭 💙 James’, Ian’s, and Rob’s bromance is hilarious and they’re such bad influences on each other. 💙 The freedom James and Penny feel after their relationship is out in the open is everything you want for them. 💙 There is some goooooood spice; some we’ve seen from Penny’s perspective in the Hunted series; some spice was new that I LOVED. The cameras… 🤭 💙 I laughed so much and found this to be a lighthearted, happy read.
I could not have asked for a more perfect ending to what has become one of my absolute favorite series . But then again I’m not that surprised as Ivy never fails to exceed all my expectations. Loved is the 3rd book in ( the professor Hunter series and the conclusion to James and Pennys story . And all I can say is what an emotional rollercoaster that blew me away and played on all my emotions in so many ways . I smiled , laughed , I sobbed like a baby and I rooted so freaking hard . Angst , humor , witty banter , fun , sexy , steamy , romantic, passionate, intriguing, heartwarming and heartbreaking, wonderfully written characters, secrets , second chances, family , friendships, unexpected surprises, a story that will literally suck you in from the very first page and keep you up well into the early morning hours . The simple truth is this entire series is a must read , a true masterpiece, chefs kiss 💋
This is so bittersweet. James and Penny are truly one of my favorite series, from book one all the way to the end. So knowing this is technically the last one for them is so sad.
I just love everything about them. Let’s start with the age..it’s not a spoiler but mention several times in Loved that Penny is 20 and James is 27. That is the ages of when my husband and I got married so I swoon every time I see that. I love that Penny can eventually look past everything James thought he stood for and all of the addictions he had. James’s true self comes out when he meets Penny and you can really see where he tries so hard to be better, for Penny and himself. Yes he may slip up but Penny is still there and ultimately that is what love is.
Their story is so beautiful. I know how the whole series ends so yes it gets a whole lot worse again but then it gets a whole better again too so that is how this book leaves us. On a very high note, friends being friends, and James and Penny madly in love. This whole book made my heart so so happy.
Thank you Ivy for this series! You are brilliant! You have written before how this is similar to your marriage and I have commented the same about mine. Love is like an addiction and I am so happy for us that we have that love!
This book made me sad! But only because I know it's the last book about James and Penny. Seriously though I loved this book. I always get excited to read an ARC for Ivy Smoak's books especially when it involves my favorite professor! This book had everything a love story should have! I have enjoyed every moment inside Penny's head and even more in James's head! I loved seeing this side of James. We always knew he was intense but it was great seeing the mischievous and fun side too. Its amazing that Ivy can write a full series of books in one POV and then go back and fill in all the missing pieces through the opposite POV. Brilliant! I can't wait until the next generation! I know we'll only get little glimpses of James and Penny from here on out but I know it will feel like getting together with old friends.
I am OBSESSED! I DEVOURED LOVED! But really, this series has been so incredible. Reading The Hunted Series through Professor Hunter’s perspective and seeing everything through his eyes has been so so wonderful. James has quite the backstory and after reading these books, I feel like I understand him so much better. James has always been my favorite book boyfriend and I will always love him.
You can always expect some spicy scenes when reading Ivy Smoak books. Of course Loved had its fair share, but what I enjoyed most was the plot of Loved. There were some new aspects to the story with it being from Professor Hunter’s perspective and I absolutely LOVED that!
Once again, Ivy Smoak did not disappoint. Her writing is just as captivating and detailed as ever!
Now I’m going to completely ignore my TBR and reread these books over and over again😍
No, but really, this final conclusion on James and Penny’s story made my heart soar. Like I’ve said on previous reviews on Professor Hunter’s POVs, Ivy does a fantastic job of taking a story that we all know and love and puts a creative, new twist on it so we get a brand new story to fall in love with.
I loved the plot even though it was pretty low stakes. The ending really made the book for me. Those last 2 chapters with the inclusion of our Untouchables really made it a top-tier story for me. Also, Rob in the second half of the book really made me LOL. I freakin love Rob (not Bob) so much. 🤣
And another thing we all know Ivy does well is 🔥spice🔥 Let’s just say there’s a very spicy scene that involves a little school girl outfit. 😜
Of course, my recommendation is to pick this one up (especially if James Hunter is in your top 5 book boyfriends like mine 😉).
This book is the final book in the Professor Hunter series- James POV and boy was it a riot. While there were some intense moments, in true Ivy fashion she offset those with some hilarious moments- courtesy of Rob and Penny’s dad. While we aged to see their story in the future with the crossover series Men of Manhattan and the Light to My Darkness, this book marks the last one planned for their story. Being able to see what James was up to and more importantly, his relationship with Ian, Rob and even Brenden are shown from his perspective. There are some of the same scenes as the Hunted series but are written differently as they are through James eyes and not Penny’s. Watching the Untouchables reunite and continue on as if no time had passed warmed my heart. This book was an excellent send off for this couple.
I truly love these books from James' perspective, The original Hunted Series is what made me fall in love with reading again and a world of characters who will always stay with me no matter what. I am a huge fan of a book from both perspectives but I love that with Penny and now James each having their own books you get such an in depth view of what was going through their heads. This book helps you see James find his peace and it's truly beautiful to read. I always love how light hearted this book is compared to most of the others from the whole series. This book was truly funny and had me constantly smiling. I loved getting to know more about Ian and any scenes with Rob are just amazing. As sad as I am to leave these characters, the end of this was so lovely and I will always find myself coming back to visit.
Wow! What a great way to end the series! I really enjoyed reading Loved! We see that no matter how rugged and tough James is, underneath that exterior, he has a heart of gold especially for Penny.
If you plan to read this book, I strongly advised that you read the first two books of this series since they cover the whole Penny and James love story from James's point of view.
You'll be laughing, crying, and cheering on for Penny and James! Some parts you just want to punch those characters on the face And I'm referring to the villains who tries to separate them. You will know who they are.
Professor Hunter series runs concurrently with the 1st two books of The Hunted series, which is told from Penny's point of view.
Can't believe this is the end of James and Penny's story. I have loved their story so much and this final book from James point of view was great!
I love this book and season of their relationship. There was so many ups and downs. They went thru a very tough time but came out ahead! I also loved being able to read about their relationship thru James perspective instead of just Penny's. James can be a complicated man but he has so much love to give Penny he just has to dig and move past his past to find that love and once he does he gives it all!
I have so much I could say about this book and this couple but I don't want to give anything away.
Oh and...
If you love Rob, then you will also love this book! Rob comes to town and there is definitely not a dull moment from the moment he steps off the elevator! 🤣 💩🔥 iykyk
James and Penny you are so Loved and I am so happy to say I have read every step of your journey! I hope to see some snippets of them when Ivy writes Scarletts book 🤞❤️
I'm so glad that I was given the opportunity to be an ARC reader for this!
