Life gets turned upside down for April Faith when her daughter leaves for college, her corporate job jades her, and her husband abruptly walks out. April realizes she has lived life too long for others, and she needs a major change. She remembers Dune Island, her childhood summer home off the coast of Georgia, a place where nothing could go wrong in the world—and she needs to revisit what remains of her family’s historic beach house and see if she can restore it, turn it into an inn, open the door for a new life—and maybe, even, a new love…

When life gets a few twists that are certain to be the final straw an inner spirit takes control and pushes you forward. With life’s challenges a winning heart can put you in the right direction and that’s just what Fiona Grace portrayed in this book. Enjoy your read.
I bought books 1&2 together on a deal. Really glad I didn’t pay much. There were numerous errors and timelines didn’t jive at all. It was annoying, and constant. The storyline was pretty good, but April was an unusual character to say the least and for book 1 & 2 there was way too much drama and confusion. It was almost as if the author didn’t remember what she’d written previously. I’m actually amazed that she has written so many books and is obviously popular. Maybe her other books are better.
TBH, this book was boring. Not enough romance to be a romance novel, not enough mystery to be a mystery novel. At only 151 pages it was more like a novella. There definitely needed to be more to the story. Example: when April fires Millie for stealing and tells her to return the stole items the subject is dropped. Did Millie steal more than the items mentioned? Did she return the items she stole? What happened to Jackson? Too many loose ends.
Second Book in the Dune Island series (Audiobook) - DNF, sorry Fiona your angsty character April put me off reading the rest of the series. I purchased the second audiobook to give it another chance in order to see if this character (April) got her self a back bone. But she didn’t!! After listening to the first few chapters I couldn’t cope longer. This is 2024 - the age of emancipated women. For a lawyer and supposedly "strong woman" as she constantly says, she lets other people run her life. She seems to be constantly absorbing negative energy. Buyer be aware, April in this series is a DOORMAT :(
The digital narration in this book has some pronunciation errors.
A Chance Fall (The Inn at Dunn Island) is book 2 in a series by Fiona Grace. Like A Chance Love, A Chance Fall was boring, full of juvenility, and difficult to read because of the improbability of the storyline. It almost felt as if these two books were the first two books Fiona Grace wrote. I was quite disappointed in both A Chance Fall and A Chance Love.
In addition, there were wrong names inserted, one sentence which made no sense and generally errors one would not expect. Just so sad.
Hopefully, my next Fiona Grace book, whatever it may be, will be much more enjoyable.
I enjoyed reading A Chance Fall, and kept reading because I wanted to know what was going to happen next. There is romance (clean romance), mystery and drama to hold the reader's attention. The main character of the story, April, is faced with all sorts of situations and problems as she strives to open her bed and breakfast. With strength and determination she forges ahead to surmount the obstacles before her. There are good lessons to be learned from her experiences. I recommend this story, part of a series.
Very poorly written. The story line was not well developed (we meet the main character's boyfriend while they were on their third date - suddenly he was the love of her life. No development of this plot line. ) There were way too many plot lines; non well developed. I wanted to like this book. But if the author used the phrase, "She couldn't help but feel..." once more, I was ready to toss in the towel! The editing was very poorly done, also. Cannot recommend
We're introduced to April, an aspiring B & B owner, who's doing construction while having a soft opening. She's returned to an island home to begin a new phase of her life. She has big plans for the house and property. She sounds a bit immature to have been an attorney for a large firm, quick to rush to judgement, not confident to stand up for herself and what she wants/believes. She grows as the book progresses but I'm left wanting more from April.
I really wanted to love this series. The storyline and characters were wonderful. But the writer does speed writing in her storytelling process. The storyline deserves to be 300-500 pages to fully develop, not the 150ish it has been condensed to. Very disappointing. I won't be reading any more of this series.
Pretty predictable but I like characters so it’s a fun read. April is very smart but does stupid stuff.: Her whole thing with Nigel was in her head Then she has something going on with jackson. She accuses her father of theft then has to apologize but she sets him straight about his fathering.
