Feasting Vampires!

There are eight stories in this book from eight different authors. All the stories were great and I will tell you this - the vampires in this book were badass! It was hard to pick favorites out of this lineup but out of all eight stories I do have about four favorites:

Laird of Dunain by Graham Masterton

The Nest by Kevin J. Kennedy

The Proposal by Lee Mountford

Devil in the Snow by Nick Roberts

Thoughts:

The stories are kind of short and the book is only around 118 pages on kindle so it didn't take long to read the book. As always, KJK Publishing gathers together great authors for his books and I am always impressed by not only the authors he has but the stories they write.

So if you want to read about some blood spurting in all directions and read some fast paced vampire action then go check out this book! Giving this book four "Vampire Gore Action" stars!

“If something has four legs, a tail and barks, it’s a dog, right? If something spends the hours of daylight in a grave and consumes blood, then surely we’re talking VAMPIRE… aren’t we?”

For the fans of bloody thirsty creatures that go “bump” in the night, this collection is perfect! A fantastic mix vampire tales by modern novelists, some could even be lengthened into full length tales they were so good!

My top two favourites were “Vampyrrhic Pay-Per-View” By Simon Clark & “Devil in the Snow” By Nick Roberts.

I hope that Kevin J. Kennedy keeps putting together themed collections, it’d be awesome to see a Vampires 2 anthology!

This is an anthology from well known authors as they spin their own tale about Vampires. There are 8 tales and each story is spin tingling and scary.
This is not your classic vampire stories if you’re expecting the loving, romantic, sensual vamps this isn’t that book. Each story displayed a dark and dreary vampire story. That definitely added to the element of the story overall. Although it’s hard to pick my favorite my top three stories are:

The Nest- Kevin J. Kennedy- A group of vampires hunters encounter a vampires nest but the stakes are high. Definitely gives John Carpenters Vampire feels.

A Cold Morning On Lake Dark- Michael Bray- A man is classified as a serial killer and the hunt is on for him. Is he truly a serial killer?

Devin In The Snow- Nick Roberts- A younger brother is sent to live with his big brother to sharpen him out. One night can change everything.

This book is a quick read and the stories go by quick. If you’re in the mood for vampires but on the dark side this is most definitely the book for you.

Perfection! I fell in love with vampires all over again. The stories are simply wonderful! Kevin Kennedy has gathered eight terrific writers including himself, producing an excellent anthology of really great vampire stories: memorable, creative, scary, riveting. The authors are all well-known names and they make writing seem so easy, but it's the incredible ideas fueling this anthology that make it truly shine: Nick Roberts' shockingly moving tale of brotherhood, "Devil In The Snow," is the longest tale and would have been my favorite, if it weren't for three equally amazing stories; namely, Michael Bray's "A Cold Morning on Lake Dark," combining vampire-hunting with the serial killer theme in a totally original way, Richard Chizmar's "Heroes" with its brilliant take on vampire immortality, and Greg F. Gifune's "Chasing Moonlight," a story that manages to entertain and disturb without violence or gore, just unparalleled storytelling skills! Kevin Kennedy's story, "The Nest," is the blockbuster among these tales, meant to be visualized in detail like the perfect vampire movie. Simon Clark's darkly humorous "Vampyrrhic Pay-Per-View" introduces a vampire show on the Dark Net, while Lee Mountford's "The Proposal" pulls no punches, yet not one drop of blood is spilled. There's not a single bad story in this anthology, and even the Masterton story opening the book, a story that didn't grip me as much as Roberts' or Bray's did, certainly whet my appetite and left a very strong impression. A must-read for all horror fans, not just the vampire lovers! Thank you Kevin Kennedy for the ARC!

Comprised of 8 vampire shorts from some of the best indie horror authors around, it's the perfect bite-sized horror anthology to add to any vampire lovers collection!

1.Laird of Dunain By Graham Masterton

Claire paints his portrait.  No matter the amount of color that she uses, his face remains pale. Paint mixed with blood finally gives color to the painting  but it doesn't last.
Vampire story meets Dorian gray??

"They always said of the Dunains of Dunain that they were a bloodless family."

"The Laird of Dunain turned his head away for the very first time that day. "On that day, when he lay bleeding, the laird swore that he would have his revenge on the English for every drop of blood that he had let. He would have it back,” he said, “a thousandfold; and then a thousandfold more.”

2.Vampyrrhic Pay-Per-View By Simon Clark

“If something has four legs, a tail and barks, it’s a dog, right? If something spends the hours of daylight in a grave and consumes blood, then surely we’re talking VAMPIRE… aren’t we?"

Subscribers pay money to watch a vampire queen on video and ask questions. Apparently, there is a group of Subterranean vampires . In a world where the internet is a lucrative business, I guess I could see even the undead taking advantage of it!

3. The Nest By Kevin J. Kennedy

This particular story follows a group of vampire hunters. They are named No One, Giant, Pyscho , Words, and Newby-hunter
I enjoyed this particular story because the
Different styles of vampires were refreshing.

“Na, but I like Billy the Kid, and I think after watching you old guys fight, that I’ll stick to my guns.”

4.Chasing Moonlight By Greg F. Gifune

In this partical story, grave robbers get more than they bargained for.

"What if all this was put here to keep him in?”

This was one of my favorites. It's just an overall good story.

5.A Cold Morning on Lake Dark

Serial killer or hero? I felt like this was a
Modern retelling of the van hellsing story, and I found it well written.

6.The Proposal By Lee Mountford

Man who is dying gets a proposal to live from his wife turned vampire. If given the chance for immortality and to regain the love of your life, would you take it??

7.Heroes By Richard Chizmar

A father plagued by dementia and Son seeks out immortal life . This story was actually bittersweet and heartbreaking.

8. Devil in the Snow By Nick Roberts

This was one of my favorites from the anthology, too. The end made me cry 😢

Also , after reading Nicks post and seeing the way he blended his life into the story. It broke my heart all over again.

I'm incredibly sorry for his loss, but I think it's beautiful that his brother has been made immortal through this story. He will live on forever through nicks words and hopefully touch even more readers. 🖤

As always, with this collection, we get a great variety of shorts from some of the best authors the indie community has to offer. If you are a vampire lover, then I can't recommend this highly enough.

Okay. Seriously. When I saw MASTERTON’s story was the FIRST story in this anthology, I was genuinely dumbfounded. It was almost beyond my comprehension that HE was the opener.
I gave them the benefit of the doubt, and reading.
After I finished reading his story, which was an absolute masterpiece, I figured the only direction to go from here was downhill, and resigned myself to being disappointed.
Thankfully, I was proven wrong. Not just wrong. I was proven very fucking wrong.
Every single one of these eight stories is strong enough to stand on their own merit, but as an anthology they form an absolute powerhouse.
Vampires have finally reclaimed their rightful place at the head of the horror fiction table, and proven themselves to be true masters of darkness.
I applaud you guys. Well done!

A book to sink your fangs into

Kevin J. Kennedy takes you into the world of those nefarious nosferatus. Joined by a host of some of the most amazing horror writers, you will encounter tales that you can really sink your teeth into.

Laird of Dunain

A picture is worth a thousand words and in this tale, a thousand screams.  How much blood is required to paint the portrait of a vampire? You will be horrified to find out.

Vampyrrhic Pay-Per-View

This is an interview with a vampire of a different kind.  A credit card is all that is needed to enter the virtual world of the undead.  Can a vampire be confined to a computer?

The Nest

A group of vampire hunters quickly discover that the hunters can easily become the hunted.

Chasing Moonlight

Grave robbing is a risky business, especially when it is the grave of a vampire.

A Cold Morning on Lake Dark

Trying to rid the world of  vampires isn't an easy task when you are the only one who believes in them.

The Proposal

When you are terminally ill and have the choice to become a vampire, would you do it?

Heroes

To avoid losing a loved one, a vampiric choice may be the only solution.

Devil In The Snow

Buyer beware, in this vampire tale of a trinket that isn't what it appears to be.

What a wonderful collection! I have had the pleasure to read several Kevin J Kennedy collections, and being a lifelong vampire fan, I just had to treat myself to this one.

It's superb. You just know from the outset that Kevin has a wonderful knack of gathering the creme de la creme in the horror world together, and the name check of this line-up is an extremely strong one.

Opening proceedings, we have Graham Masterton (wow!) His story, "The Laird of Dunain" is a great place to begin. It tweaked a bit of a nerve for me, actually, as I recently stayed at a hotel which started life as a 16th century Scottish baronial castle... I would have imagined the Laird would have been very at home there, but I'm glad I didn't meet him. Although, there were some strange tappings coming through the (outside!) wall, through the night, so maybe it's wise to go to ANY Scottish castle well equipped with all the accoutrements to fight the supernatural? Maybe Graham Masterton can answer that one better than I can?

Up next, is the great romp of "Vampyrrhic Pay-Per-View" from Simon Clark. Such a fun, dark story, capturing the essence of (slightly) misspent youth perfectly. Just be careful what sites you click on, next time you're online...

The stories continue to delight. KJK's very own contribution follows - "The Nest" - an extraordinary tale of vampire hunters that reads like a John Carpenter masterclass. Atmospheric, driven, and so very enjoyable! I wanted it to go on forever. Please, Kevin...can we have another one?! Or as dear little Oliver Twist would say, please Sir, may I have some more?

"Chasing Moonlight" by Greg F. Gifune is the next bite of delight. Dragging Burke and Hare into the 21st Century, this astonishing tale of grave-robbing gone bad will haunt you. It certainly haunted me.

Michael Bray's mesmerising "A Cold Morning on Dark Lake" follows, and what a wonderful story it is. Full of twists, suspense, and superbly plotted, it's ending is as shocking as the revelation about who the real 'monster' is. Wonderful stuff.

I adored Lee Mountford's "The Proposal ". A fan of his work, I was really looking forward to this one, and it certainly doesn't disappoint. There's definitely something about 'embracing your demons' that is so true, here, but I won't spoil the story!

I found two stories in this collection very moving indeed, and one of them is "Heroes" from Richard Chizmar. Eloquent, beautiful, and heartbreaking. I will be thinking about this one for a very long time. It's stunning, and haunting, and I loved it.

As I love the final superlative offering, here... Nick Roberts' tale of brotherly love, "Devil in the Snow". I openly admit I sobbed when I read this. I sincerely hope Nick won't mind me mentioning that this is a very personal story from him, and a beautiful tribute to his own precious brother, Kit, sadly gone too soon. A totally bad ass, kick ass vampire story, as well as a wonderful exploration of what our heroes are to us, this is (as ever) Nick telling it from his heart. Beautiful, truthful and frank, Nick is a breath of fresh air, and an inspiration for any of us who are fighting Demons that come in insidious forms with pharmaceutical names, or can be found in bottles of many kinds. The characters in this story are so real, I felt I was there... I'm just glad I wasn't. Especially when the moose... but no! No spoilers! Just read and enjoy. Beautiful storytelling by a master craftsman.

A wonderful collection, "Vampires" is the latest offering from a master. Extremely adept at gathering together the best names in horror writing, long may the magnificent Kevin J Kennedy continue to bring horror fans everywhere the best of the best! Sink your fangs into "Vampires" and you'll be very glad you did! I know I am. xXx

KJK Publishing brings us eight tales by eight different authors that’s centered around vampires. I’m not talking about the kind that sparkle either. Instead, we have pages packed with action and blood. There is a great mix here and I really liked how the authors put some new takes on vampires. If you’re a fan of vampires, you need to read this one. The standouts for me were The Nest, Chasing Moonlight, A Cold Morning on Lake Dark and Devil in the Snow.

I started this on an out of town trip and finished it on the plane last night. “Devil in the Snow” by Nick Roberts was my favorite story hands down. I even got a little teary-eyed damn it. The brothers in the story were characters that I was invested in and the plot was exciting. My only complaint was that I wished the story could have been longer so it wouldn’t have ended so soon. 🖤

My next favorite story was, “The Nest” by Kevin J. Kennedy. I enjoyed the mutual respect and friendship of the group of guys in this one. I loved the story line and the action. 🖤

The next one rounds out my top three from this vampy anthology. “Laird of Dunain” by Graham Masterton was so twisted! The character development of Claire was wonderful and the story itself was so good, really great story. 🖤

All the stories were really good! I’ve kept it vague to ensure I didn’t give any spoilers. 4/5 skulls.

A perfect, quick Vampire anthology! There are 8 short stories written by 8 wildly talented authors. Each story is unique and a fun twist of what we all think of the "classic vampire". I felt like I read an entire book with each story, even though they were all less than 50 pages each. Immersive and well detailed with such short page count is very impressive. A couple of the stories were kind of "sweet"/sad while others were more brutal or fantastical. My favorite was Devil In The Snow by Nick Roberts. Partially because it was the longest story, yes. But also because of the gripping thrill and descriptive gore. Absolutely recommend to anyone that enjoys vampires.

Bibliophilia Templum Review
https://bibliophiliatemplum.wordpress.com/2023/11/06/vampires/

Vampires from KJK is a dark and delicious anthology of eight intense vampire stories by eight talented authors. There’s no romanticizing here.

“Laird of Dunain” by Graham Masterson is a dark and classically styled tale of a mesmerizing laird, a brooding artist, and blood.

“Vampyrrhic Pay-Per-View” by Simon Clark is a fast-paced page-turner about two young men—one reluctant, one excited—delving into a website promising discourse with a real-life vampire. This is an excellent story with a wonderfully modern twist and lots of suspense.

“The Nest” by Kevin J. Kennedy is an evocative and brutal story about vampire hunters, a gripping tale with vivid characters and lots of action.

“Chasing Moonlight” by Greg F. Gifune is a poignant piece about a man whose past and addiction has landed him partnered with a grave robber and what happens when they rob the wrong grave. Loved the ending.

“A Cold Morning on Lake Dark” by Michael Bray is a brilliant, intense, and riveting story with a wicked twist and some extreme content. Can’t tell you what this one is about without risking spoilers; you have to read it.

“The Proposal” by Lee Mountford is a deep and moving tale about pain and choices that, while a vampire story, transcends genre.

“Heroes” by Richard Chizmar is an enigmatic and evocative story of love, desperation, and fear, and the lengths one man will go to when facing these.

“Devil in the Snow” by Nick Roberts is a fantastic folklore-style vampire story with the classic mystery and brutality of the vampire sub-genre. I enjoyed this one so much I am willing to overlook some of the artistic liberties taken for the sake of flow (and honestly, if you don’t know, you won’t know).

As a fan of horror in general and vampire fiction in particular, I found this anthology to be a significantly relevant addition to the sub-genre as well as a fantastic read. Highly recommended.

Grabbed this as a last minute read for spooky season.

This collection features a take on the vampire by each author listed above. Some are straight forward, while some of the others sought a new approach to the horror favorite. Perhaps it’s my fault, not only because of the cover, but the vampire genre at large, but I was expecting gothic. So where my mind went was more urban fantasy-ish/alternative world. Two of the first stories could have fit this, but then like 2/3rds through they just mentioned the characters in jeans and I was so thrown off.

Regardless of that, which may have been my own perception, this collection definitely went from worst to best for me. The first few stories were quite shaky, but as the collection progressed, I really liked the final few. Chizmar and Roberts both offered up some great ones.

Personally a 3.5/5*. Worth checking out!

I was gifted this book for a honest review.

With Halloween a few days away this book is a must have for the horror lovers and Vampire lovers. The moment i started reading the book i was sucked right into it. Each story goes into great detail and will keep you on your toes and on the edge of your seat. The stories are well written and the pace is perfect. Vampires never has a dull moment or lacks anything. In my opinion it's the perfect book for horror. I highly recommend this book to all horror fans. Cover is 5 stars. Stories are 5 stars. It's a must have.

Kevin Kennedy’s latest anthology brings together some very big names from the horror community to create this anthology of Vampire stories.

The stories are total mix of style, from the more traditional gothic/romantic style through to a very modern style with technology and army bases. There is not a single story that doesn’t have great pacing, good characters and a gripping plot line. I was very impressed!

At 118 pages this is also a very quick read thanks to its gripping nature, so it is one you can dip in and out of or completely lose yourself in for an hour or two. Either way, if you like vampire stories this is a must-read. If you don’t like vampires: firstly- why are you reading the reviews for this book? Secondly, this book might change your mind, so give it a read!

I feel about vampires how others feel about zombies, that they are over done and all the same sparkly shenanigans that have become the punch line of jokes. Well, friends, I am happy to eat crow after reading and listening to VAMPIRES.

“Laird of Dunain” by Graham Masterson - A painting getaway turns into an obsession of art and control. DORIAN GRAY for 2024.

“Vampyrrhic Pay-Per-View” by Simon Clark - Two boozed up best friends get more than their $100 worth. Super creative and funny.

“The Nest” by Kevin J. Kennedy - When a group of vampires killer must face a nest they hadn’t planned on, a bite or two is the least of their concerns.

“Chasing Moonlight” by Greg F. Gifune - Two grave robbers believe they have hit the jackpot and their lives will change forever. It does… but not how they envisioned.

“A Cold Morning on Lake Dark” by MIchael Bray - What happens when a serial killer isn’t what people assume? An eight year old boy and an old man meet in this story and find out on one dark night.

“The Proposal” by Lee Mountford - When you have nothing to lose, seeing your traitorous wife could be your saving grace.

“Heroes” by Richard Chizmar - What would you sacrifice to have more time with one you love? Emotionally draining… nudge

“Devil in the Snow” by Nick Roberts - Two brothers find out that moose and Inuits aren’t the only things that want to welcome the younger brother to Alaska.

The stories are stellar but the narration by Steve Gray really brought it together. Gray engages the reader and keeps the suspense at every word. I highly suggest this one on audio.

A HIGHLY RECOMMEND 5/5
