Please note that this is book 1 of a fantasy romance series.
A kingdom with no ruler, its magical veil of protection weakening, and an enemy poised to invade.
Found in the woods and raised by her adoptive uncle, Orella has been content living a peaceful life in a small village. She dreams of nothing more than following her uncle’s footsteps as a healer, but fate has other plans. When an unexpected incident causes Orella to unleash magic she was never aware of, her entire world is shifted.
As a dark power roams closer, she is forced to embark on a perilous adventure with Caleb. A green-eyed warrior who comes crashing into her life, confusing her heart in the process.
Together, they’re in a race to reach the lost city of Astrea. Hidden from the rest of the world by centuries old magic, it is the one place Orella and her companions will be safe.
With the future of the entire land of Faeries in jeopardy, Orella must decide if she is willing to let go of the past and embrace her destiny.
Sara Shafiei is a proud Persian-Canadian, born and raised in Montreal. Having graduated from a Masters in Marketing, her true passion lies in anything creative. She grew up writing and telling stories, but it was at the age of 15 that she realized she wanted to be a published writer. Ever since, Sara has been preparing for the day she would finally get her book out in the world. Her goal is to write the most magical of books for the hopeless romantics. You can often catch her watching cartoons, listening to Taylor Swift or drawing. If she’s not writing, reading or creating content, she also loves to spend time with friends by grabbing a bite or going shopping.
3.5✨ « To all the dreamers, searching for their place in the world »
So I’ll cut to the chase here and say that I had fun with this. It was whimsical and magical. The author has a gripping writing. What I enjoyed the most is how our FMC (Orella) failed a lot and didn’t get everything on her first try. She was the Destined but didn’t feel like a chosen one? Idk how to make this make sense but it does for me. The main struggle I encountered with this book was the pacing. It was a little bit all over the place. I think that if I wouldn’t of enjoyed this story as much as I did, I honestly would’ve rated it lower because of the pacing issues. But - the characters were absolutely lovable and well written. So, this whole book is kind of about them going from one place to another. It’s very slow paced for a 445 pages book. But I’m guessing it sets the mood for the rest of the series where there’ll be more action and plot (and romance. There isn’t much in this one). Some things weren’t original… while others were. The magic system honestly blew me away. It was incredibly well done.
All in all, I’m excited for the next book in this series. I highly recommend this one.
Out of topic but am I the only one who wouldn’t be surprised if someone came up to me and told me I’m the Queen of a kingdom? Like obviously I am. The universe always knew I was meant for bigger things 🤭😂 (please take this as a joke but know that I’m not really joking)
I LOVED IT. I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT. AAAAH . I HAD HIGH EXPECTATIONS. AND THIS BOOK TOTALLY MET THOSE EXPECTATIONS💗💗
Firstly, can we talk about Orella please. I love her, i absolutely love Orella. She's such a precious girlll💖💖. Can just take a minute to appreciate that the author gifted us with such a kind character that is still a baddie. Orella is like the perfect mix between kind, compassionate and badass. The fact that Orella's kindness makes her even more of a baddie is something that i love sooooo much. She will help if she can, but if the people she loves get hurt you better watch out 🤭.
Actually so many characters in this book were written so well, and i felt like i knew them personally. I mean from the beginning i absolutely loved our sunshine boy Endri 💗💗💗. I wil always love him But also Zaylen, he was written so well. He's such a strong but kind person. And Caleb, he was written so wel. But also Aeson, Theresa and so many other characters were written so wel that it didn't matter how long they appeared in the book i loved them from the start.
Also, this book is written so beautifully. Like the author describes this fantasy world in such a pretty way. I was enchanted 💖.
The romance is written so well in this book. It's such a wholesome and cute slow burn. There were so many cute scenes with Caleb and Orella!! But also the friendship between Orella and Zaylen was so cutee and wholesomeee. AAAh I absolutely loved it.
AND THE PLOTWIST. I DID NOT SEE THAT COMING AT ALL. I WAS IN SHOCK. It was written so well!! "Somewhere in the haze got a sense i've been betrayed." That's literally what i felt. And the ending was such an adventure, i was hooked. Actually, this whole book was filled with adventure. So many things happened, and that made the book so exciting to read. And there are some cute and wholesome scenes in the book too. It's an amazing mix💗
SO PLS READ THIS. PLS PLS PLS. Because i absolutely loved it. I am serious when i say it's the best fantasy book i've read in a while. 💗💗
I had the absolute honour of reading this for an arc and also got sneak peaks of the first few chapters at the beginning stages.
I have to say that in all honesty, the writing in this is probably the best I’ve ever seen in a fantasy novel especially for someone’s first ever book.
If you loved ‘witch’ growing up, if you love ‘Yona of the dawn’ or any OG Barbie movie, this book is definitely for you.
This book is very detailed but also so easy to follow & there’s a character for everyone to love.
There isn’t any spice BUT the tension between Orella and Caleb is definitely there and it will have you giggling and kicking your feet. THE STAIRCASE SCENE (if you know you know.) THE DANCE SCENE (if you know, you know.)
Tropes this book has that I adore 🥰 - Bodyguard - Chosen one - Found family
Zeylen & Endri have me heart and soul. Caleb you are an absolute gem. Orella, I want to protect you at all costs.
Also I really need someone to call me starling please and thank you.
Also my favourite quote in this book (sara actually said this to me recently) “Never apologize for having a heart starling.”
not to be emo, but it is so surreal to be able to add this book on my goodreads read list!! it's so exciting that the world is finally able to read this masterpiece (i will respectfully shove this book down to everyone's throat 😇)
honestly, i think my favorite thing about this book is that it was actually a pretty funny and i kept giggling throughout the book. the characters are very likeable and they each have their own strong personalities (i like that it's not just orella that is a likeable character, but the sides characters too). i also really like that the writing is smooth and face paced. sometimes authors uses words that i don't understand (i'm lowkey illiterate) but in this one it's so refreshing to understand and imagine everything so clearly.
you know the book is THAT good when you instantly want the second book (sara if you are reading this, this is my petition for book 2 asap)!
anyways, thank you to this NOW OFFICIALLY PUBLISHED AUTHOR for letting me read the arc 😌 y'all should get familiar with this name because soon it will be all over the best sellers list 🤩🤩🤩
Ahhh this was so so cute!! Sara’s writing is beautiful. The story felt familiar and cozy, while staying original and fun. Even though it wasn’t always fast paced, I was hooked the whole time. Loved the characters, and that ending was really good! Caleb is 🥵 I can’t wait to read what’s next! 💖
this book. THIS BOOK. I’m wide awake from my long overdue reading slump and deadass reactivated my goodreads acc just to review this masterpiece. I don’t even know where to start like characters? 5 stars! world building? 5 stars! plot? 5 stars! writing? 5 stars! romance? 5 STARS! The slow burn was just 🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻 I NEED BOOK 2 RIGHT. NOW. BECAUSE IM SO INVESTED IN THE WHOLE STORYLINE AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, ORELLA AND CALEB MY BABIES I hope we get it as soon as possible, I literally want to go into a coma and wake up on the release day of the second book that’s how much I WANT it
One of the reasons why I loved this book so much was the fmc, Orella, my sweet little starling. I missed reading characters like her. Don’t get me wrong, I love my badass, independent warrior girlies as much as the next person, but seems like sometime on the way writing (even liking) feminine, soft, hopeless romantics became repulsive, even anti-feminist and I feel like fmcs became so repetitive in the past few years. There goes my unpopular opinion but I’m sick of reading the same dull, emotionless killing machines and Ella was like a breath of fresh air. Maybe she doesn’t know how to wield a sword but she’s strong in her own way, plus she’s not annoying nor whiny, she’s independent and can handle her own shit which is 10/10. She had the perfect balance imo. I especially loved reading her character development bc the girl we come to know is so much different from the girl we met at the beginning. Can’t wait to read her journey, we have much more to see from her 👀
I need this series to go viral, and I need to know which god I should be thankful for bc I randomly came across this book on tiktok. It’s just perfect for my taste, it has magic, prophecies, gods, faeries, lost kingdoms and its lost regals, ancient enemies, THE BODYGUARD TROPE, THE FOUND FAMILY TROPE, THE SLOW BURNNN its a whole feast, I’m begging on my knees for more Caleb x Orella content, he’s just SO protective and SO fond of her and all that “touch her and I’ll kill you” made me go feral, like I’m still gnawing at the bars of my enclosure and JUST when we were getting somewhere the book ENDED 😩🫠 how can I live love laugh in these conditions
And lastly, not to be dramatic but I would die for Zaylen. The only downside of this book was that it definitely needed more scenes of him, but I guess even a whole book dedicated to him wouldn’t be enough to fulfill my appetite. That’s how much I LOVE him
I could write so much more but I’m not good with words, I’m just so excited to be a part of this journey and CAN’T WAIT to read more, dear Sara Shafiei pls hurry up and release book 2 for my mental and physical wellbeing
+ if you’re interested in reading more books like this I could recommend The Iron Fey by Julie Kagawa and Falling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes, it reminded me so much of these series!
I had the absolute honor of being a beta reader for Sara. Considering it’s release day I decided it’s finally time I write my review.
I was introduced to a cozy fantasy world that quickly changed into one of scary risks. The story goes from being calm to quickly developing into one of growth, grief, acceptance and strength.
I can’t say enough about the characters, a specific lightning loving character (ifykyk) made me relate on a painful level, but i felt so seen.
This book made me laugh, almost cry, stress (omg the stress) and root for the main character. Many times I wanted to jump into the book and protect all my favorite characters.
one of the easiest 5 stars i've ever given !! i don't even know where to begin, this was such a beautiful journey 💕 obsessed with absolutely everything about this book - the depth of the plot with it's twists and turns, the characters that i feel like i know personally at this point, the slow burn romance that made me want to both pull my hair out and giggle at the same time, the stunning cover and artwork within - everything was simply perfection i had high hopes for this book having heard a ton about it before it even being published but nothing could have prepared me for how much I ended up liking it 🥹 i'm sad it's over and i need the next one like yesterday 😂🙏
I started this book in December, and I just finished it last night, now in January. I had the pleasure of hearing some of the first ideas of this book and seeing some of the first map drawings, I mean the process of looking forward to this book was so exciting ! I'm so proud of Sara, she wrote an amazing book with twists and turns you don't ever see coming. The time and care that was put into this book can be seen from the beautiful cover to each word written. This is honestly one of my favourite reads of 2023 alongside books such as Fourth Wing. But in all honesty the writing is so much better in this book the descriptions are so beautiful and I cannot wait to read more from Sara!
Tropes: ✨Chosen one ✨Touch her and die ✨Protector x Queen ✨Grumpy x Sunshine (I guess) ✨EXTREME SLOWBURN (barely any romance in THIS book)
Fantasy..Fae..magic…betrayals…drama…TRAUMA… yep. That sums it up😀 that’s all people. (No it’s not)
FIRST OFF I AM NEVER FORGIVING THE AUTHOR FOR THAT ONE THING! U GAVE ME HOPE AND THEN SNATCHED IT OUT OF MY HANDS. I WILL FOREVER HATE U.
Anyway..Orella was such a sweet character tbh…. Baby girl went thru a fucking shit ton in a span of a few weeks😭Caleb was ….not really mortally grey…he was grumpy and broody tho so it’s kinda grumpy and sunshine? Except miss girl kinda lost her sunshine (not really) thru all the drama 🥲
Caleb was so protective over her I loved it and then there’s this moment where he says ‘that’s my girl’ and I screamed! FAKSKS! But there’s no romance in THIS book HOWEVER..Caleb and Orella did have a few moments!!
Zaylen was adorable. The sweet goofy side character. Not exactly goofy but he has that soft kind personality yk? I’m still wrapping my head around all the magic and everyone’s abilities…..there was this shocker moment which I had my suspicions about and I was right. And then that shocker moment lead to some confusion and then ended up w me crying again! Cuz yeah!
BUT…I will say that I kinda got tired w all the travelling and I wasn’t even the one doing it😭they travelled like 90 % of the book…and even tho it was good and I liked it….i did take a break cuz of that. It felt too much with them not reaching the destination 🥲
OMG AND THEN I don’t even get to see the main thing!??😭 but overall I likes. Can’t wait for book 2! I need more of these characters and I need to see the fucking city! I’m waiting for other characters too and omg the fucking romance. I need Caleb x Orella romance!
Plot:4/5 MCs: 4/5 SCs: 4/5 World Building:4/5 Pacing: 4/5
Smut: 0/5 Spice: 1/5 Romance: 3.5/5 (Slow burn and book one of a series)
I had the opportunity to read this little gem while it was still in its arc form but due to life I’d to put it on hold. Once it was released I grabbed it on KU and began my own journey of discovery.
The beginning introduced us to a man so sweet, Aeson, that I wanted to steal him from the book and keep him safe with me. How he took her in and stepped into the caregiver role was so sweet.
I have to watch what I say in this review as most of my opinions are attached to major plot points and being the loather of spoilers I am, I will avoid spilling any. But my fave character was Aeson. I loved him. My fave part of the book was the start. The beautiful descriptions of how he happened upon her in the woods, his thoughts on it and how his first reaction was to care for her all had my cold black heart beating.
One thing I do have to say is I would have loved a little less telling, and more showing. So many things I wanted more depth on that were only touched on. I wanted to see how she was affected not just be told. But this began to work itself out towards the end.
Did I guess the big twists? Yes, I did, but that’s my ADHD brain snagging the crumbs and making a sandwich. 🤣
Overall, I rated this book 4/5 stars and would recommend to lovers of romantasy, grumpy x sunshine, touch her and die.
This book was filled with adventures, magic, friendships, plot twists… I loved every second of it!!
Orella is a freaking badass, Caleb is my new fictional crush and Zaylen must be protected at all cost! And of course sunshine boy Endri will always be a fave 🥺
A Destined Journey is the first of a series and I can’t wait to read what is going to happen next !! ✨
Words can not describe how I'm feeling right now. The journey, this DESTINED journey took me on my own journey, of discovering characters i fell in love with, my beautiful boy , Endri, discovering my special love and respect for my girl, Rellie and her hot companions 😉. The connection i felt for Orella was so amplified in my 2nd read, and honestly, that poor girl goes through too much, I wanna give her a hug. She's everything. The world is beautiful, Sara writes her descriptions so detailed, and it feels like I'm living in a fairytale, every girl's dream (minus the monsters but every story has it's villains, if not they wouldn't be a story worth telling).
I read this book as it was being written and again in its all great glory, such a privilege on its own, and the emotions I went through both times had lasting impact. Giggles and tears were shared and shed, my heart was full and broken too😂. This book truly takes you on a journey, but it's so exciting knowing this journey just began and that a more magical journey is yet to come in the series......Sara put book 2 on my hands right now!! Can we talk about how magical the cover is of this book? The MAGICAL DOOR WAY/GATE?😍😍 the small details, the sword, the wolf🤌.
Caleb is sooo fine, the broody and grumpy trope, that i just soak up so much. He's protective, he's 6 he lights up the room with his presence ( heheheh) and the slow burn romance is burning me, it's so tender. Hurry up and make out please. My soulmate, my love, my everything, my Endri....where do I even start......it was love at first sight for me, his golden retriever energy, his full of life self, his brave and knightly manner, it was always a pleasure for me to meet my dreamer.
I had the pleasure of embarking on this journey with someone I'm honoured to call a friend and watch, Sara deliver and showcase her talent to the world. Thank you for holding my hand as I went through a rollercoaster of happiness, heartbreak, giddiness, torment but also you are the producer of it😂 and i love you endlessly for it (most of the time). No, i did not see the plot twist coming the 1st time and I was still shocked the 2nd time reading it (iykyk) and my heart gets broken each time I even think about Orella's AND my loss ( I was inconsolable🥲). I cannot wait to see Orella's story unfold further and see my talented friend thrive and boy can I tell you it's going to be amazing.
I haven't stayed up until the early morning hours due to not being able to put a book down for a long time, but here I am, finishing 'A Destined Journey' in less than 24 hours. And good gods, am I gutted. I haven't cried this much in years, streaming tears every other effing chapter. Throwing it against the wall only to immediately pick it up again. There's something special about this one, and I pretty much think Sara Shafiei is a genius.
The storyline of 'A Destined Journey' is nothing short of captivating. From the very first page, I was whisked away on an emotional rollercoaster that I never wanted to end. The way Shafiei weaves the plot, seamlessly blending heart-wrenching moments with heartwarming ones, is truly perfection. The pacing is perfect, keeping you on the edge of your seat without ever feeling rushed.
The character arcs in this book are also phenomenal. The protagonist’s journey from self-doubt to self-discovery is beautifully depicted. Each character is so well-developed that they feel like real people, with flaws, dreams, and a depth that makes you root for them. The relationships between them are complex and authentic, adding layers to the narrative that make it even more engaging.
The tropes used in 'A Destined Journey' are familiar yet refreshingly executed. There’s the classic hero’s journey, but it’s infused with unique twists that make it stand out. The slow-burn romance had me clutching the book to my chest, the tension palpable at the perfect times. And the exploration of themes like destiny, sacrifice, and resilience is done with such sincerity that it deeply resonated.
'A Destined Journey' is a book that not only entertains but also moves you in ways you didn't expect. I'm an obsessed mess, and it's gods damn perfect 😍
I got the wonderful opportunity to be apart of the arc team for this beautiful book and can I just say… it’s been such a pleasure.
I am in love with this world and these characters that Sara has created. I love the development we see from everyone, especially Orella. I related to her so much and that made the book that much more enjoyable for me personally.
I adored the found family trope and fell in love with each member and their different roles that they played. While there isn’t spice (yet?? 👀) you honestly don’t miss anything because the slow burn, bickering romance is just *chefs kiss* and a perfect pace, in my opinion.
The storyline and world building was nice and easy to follow along. I find this to be a top fantasy novel and I absolutely cannot wait for more. I’m actually BEGGING for more please, because I need to know what happens next… RIGHT NOW!
Also, Starling? Please, easily a top new nickname of mine.
Love love love 💗
Fav quotes without spoiling
“And I told him that if he ever spoke about you in that way again, I would cut out his tongue.”
“If you want to dance with me, all you have to do is ask, starling. I would be delighted to lead.”
This was good! I didn’t realize that it wasn’t a standalone book so I was admittedly a bit confused by the sudden plot change towards the end and the realization that there wouldn’t be much resolution. But that’s definitely on me. I’m also sad because the 2nd book isn’t out yet!
I wouldn’t really consider this to have any romance. While there’s definitely some tension between Orella and Caleb there is not true romance or romantic development.
I think the plot jumped around a bit but overall was pretty easy to understand. I think a lot of fantasy books have too much complexity and this was not the case here.
I like the whole found family aspect. All of the characters were relatively likeable. Orella definitely made some questionable decisions when it came to her safety which at times was a bit annoying. I did appreciate how she wasn’t automatically talented and perfect at everything even though it’s the Chosen One trope. You get to see her fail and learn.
I also like how she comes from a healer background.
The beginning of the book seemed to be a bit more emotional and structured.
This was my first fantasy book and I loved it. (I only gave 4 stars because i'm not really used to fantasy and it took me a while to get into) This book is so beautifully written and so captivating. It has you either in tears, screaming, laughing, giggled, scared, curious or excited, you name it. The story took so many unexpectedly amazing plots twists. I really enjoyed it and can't wait for the next book :)
Sara is also an old student of my mother's that I have heard about a MULTITUDE of times. Being able to read her book was so special. The acknowledgment she wrote to my mother left me in tears. It is truly incredible to see Sara write this beautiful book and I hope she knows how proud Mrs.Michaud is. We both loved the book ❤️
✨Romantasy from Indie author ✨Chosen one ✨Broody bodyguard ✨Slow burn ✨Grumpy x sunshine
I considered this one as cozy romantasy 💛 The setting and tone are warm, the romance it’s typically sweet and heartwarming rather than steamy or overly dramatic. The magic often feels whimsical or lighthearted.
The overall tone is optimistic, uplifting, and escapist, making it perfect for readers looking for a comforting read.
This ongoing romantasy series make me cry, laugh, giggle, scream! Earning a five starts rating since early on in the book.
If you like fairytale and whimsical feelings while reading, kinda similar to Once Upon a broken heart series. You should definitely give this romantasy “A destined journey a chance” a chance.
It follows Orella that is a healer next to his uncle Aeson and his best friend Endri also know as the dreamer. They all life in a peaceful village, until one day the Xoran’s destroy the village while looking for the next faithful ruler “The destined” blessed by the gods and meant to bring the peace and balance. And it turns out to be no one other than our sweet Orella.
Now she haves to run for her life and look for somewhere safe to life. But thanks to her uncle she is not alone in her journey. She has Caleb as her bodyguard and later on Zaylen who made a vow to protect her and take her to the lost city of Astrea were she would take the throne and restore the protection to the magic and fae of the land.
In the middle of escaping and fitting off the enemy we could see the dinamic of the group shifting into a friendship that later on shapes into a founded family. And obviously the tension, yearning and romance between Caleb and Orella as a romance girly IS OUT OF THIS WORLD and it would make you forget you’re reading and get connected to them and their journey.
*BONUS* It has a playlist included that match the vibes of the book!
Tropes - Grumpy broody bodyguard x sunshine princess - Touch her and die - Founded family - Chosen one and prophecy - Slow burn romance - Emotional damage *
OH, IT WAS SUCH A GOOD BOOK. THE TENSION. THE PLOT TWISTS. THE EMOTIONAL DAMAGE.
Let us start with our main character - Orella. It was such a breath of fresh air to read a FMC that doesn't become a killing machine with 2 hours of training. I loved her. She was so relatable - an ordinary girl thrown into a world of magic and wars. Her fear, her hopelessness, I felt it all. I'm so happy that throughout the story she hadn't lost her kindness and mercy.
It was so good to see a male parental figure who doesn't view the time he spent caring for Orella as some unbelievable achievement. Loved Aeson's character.
Caleb is so gentle, protective, and straight-up HOT. A walking GREEN flag that I love so much. This man is a CATCH. I loved his relationship with Zaylen (this man stole my heart). We can finally see a MMC with actual friends, not only hyper-fixating and obsessing over his love interest.
And don't get me started on Zaylen.🫠 A gentle, sensitive, and attentive man but still strong, protective, and gifted. I absolutely adore his character.
One of my favorite tropes here - bodyguard, forced proximity, found family. AND the micro trope - him obsessing over her eating habits!!! I haven't read that for so long and it just reminded me how much I actually love this little thing.✨
Overall, it was something new, something different, something original.
Now stop reading this review and go read it. Trust me, it's worth it 😉
Dnf @ 50% It was too long for me personally- not much happens 20/50% - just lost interest. The reason I’m giving it a 3star is because the story /writing is good 👍, plot is intriguing Characters are likeable but the pace is a problem for me. I feel like im pushing myself to read through the TID bids and touch of excitement.
Firstly I'd like to say, I went into this blind. After seeing this author on tiktok and not realizing there was only one book 😭😭 I'm alittle mad... This book was just what I needed to get out of the reading slump!
Secondly, I thought it was going to be some romantic vibes btwn MCs, but booooy I cannot wait to see how Caleb is down the track! He's got a wild side and I'm here for it 🙌
There will be no more spoilers here, if you're looking for a great read, you NEED to start this. 4/5.
i needed a good light fantasy read to up my mood and when i saw one of the author’s videos on tiktoks i knew this would deliver. it was everything i wanted from a fantasy like this. a soft but strong fmc, an amazing cast of characters (i adored all of them), and a good old fashioned quest. and the way caleb calls orella “starling” thats literally the cutest thing ever. UGH. i loved this! a 3.5!💞✨⚔️🧚♀️ perf.
I have been graciously given the opportunity to read an ARC of this amazing book and, oh my, did I enjoy it!
This book is about Orella, an orphan fae girl, who was raised by her adoptive uncle Aeson in a small village of Araven, working along with him as a town’s healer and enjoying her peaceful life. Until one day her newly unleashed powers make her a hunted prey of vicious Xoran soldiers. She is forced to flee for her life with help from a green-eyed warrior Caleb, the one person who can keep her safe. Together they are to travel around the whole country until they find the lost city of Astrea, a safe heaven, hidden from the rest of the world by magic. Orella then is faced with the most difficult decision in her life – to let go of the painful past and embrace her destiny of becoming so much more.
This book was such a journey to me and my emotions. It made me angry and sad and forced me to cry… But it also made my heart flutter at so many tender moments with Caleb. Their slow-burn romance was a perfect pace for me, cause I hate insta-love, I always prefer it to build up slowly, realistically, like in this book.
The Orella’s growth was really impressive. She was portrayed as this carefree girl, who never knew any hardships, who was loved and cared about her whole life. But after facing with this new cruel reality, she barely knew who she was anymore and struggled to understand where she belonged. Her inner battles were so accurately portrayed that I felt the struggle with every written word. She isn’t typical bad-ass female that can deal with all of her enemies on her own, but she is very strong on the inside...She deals with such a lot of trauma and still chooses to care for her new found family. At the end of the book she really gave her all to embrace her destiny and most importantly herself. This is what I loved the most in this book. Of course, besides Caleb and their slow-burn romance, which I loved so much. I love green eyed man, what can I say)). Also the starling reference throughout the book made me think of Feyre, darling moments! Loved it!
I also adore Aeson, Zaylen and Endri… they have a soft stop in my heart. Especially the dreamer... If you are loving found family trope, this book is an excellent example of it. Actually if you enjoy books about faes, magic, magical powers, demons, slow-burn romance, inner struggles, betrayal, lost cities and found family you would definitely enjoy it.
I am really thankful to Sara Shafiei for sending me this ARC and giving a chanse to read it, because this book totally made my day! It reads so easily and fast, you just keep finding yourself to be totally immersed in it until you hit the final page. And now I can’t wait to read the next book to know what happens next!
Favorite quotes:
"Sometimes you spend so long wishing for something that you eventually find yourself accepting that it will never happen. Even the bit of hope you had left soon extinguishes."
"Never apologize for having a heart, starling."
"I wondered if there would be something that could belong to just me. A destiny for myself."
"Sometimes being too comfortable is scarier than any new adventure because it prevents you from moving forward, trapping you until your mind becomes numb and your hopes and dreams begin to fade."
"Do you enjoy watching me beg then?.... This isn't the kind of begging I enjoy, starling."
"My toes are yours to step on, starling."
"I had protected what was mine. And the truth was, I would do it all over again."
Just finished reading this book! I'm so glad I found it. Like the other comments mentioned, it was a breath of fresh air to experience a more feminine and less "kill kill kill" attitude in our heroine. I hope she holds onto that into the next books instead of "hardening".
It was difficult for me to read this book because It's been awhile that I've needed to actually PAY ATTENTION to all of the beautiful details that were sprinkled in. Multiple times I had to slow my reading down because I was so intent on devouring the whole thing in one gulp... but that's not how to take this book in! The experience definitely humbled me.
I am also grateful for how the love interest was described. How wonderful to witness a male Champion that is overprotective but NOT overbearing! S-AA- WWOOOONNNN. I LOVED that that balance was kept throughout the book. I LOVED that he listened to her and was attentive. I LOVE how their relationship developed organically and EVEN IF there's no kissing or sexy time in the next book I WOULDN'T CARE !!! The honest chemistry and innocent devotion satisfied me well beyond any steamy naked moment. (and this is shocking coming from me)
In conclusion, I'm in love. I don't know how I can pick up another fantasy novel and enjoy it after reading this one. How will I find another beautiful yet no oversexualized fmc in a magical word paired with her strong male infused Champion who doesn't man handle her?
WHERE is the second book! Please release it soon! also, props to my fellow Montrealer!
sidenote: there were some typos and at one point there was a moment a character was described being in a certain position but then their movements didn't corroborate. No biggie just logistics ;)
I was lucky enough to beta read this and I'm SO excited to see it released to the rest of the world!
The first book in this series introduces us to Orella, a fae who is content living in a quiet village until a string of events turns her whole life upside down. The place she always called home is no longer safe for her, so she's torn away from everything she's ever known and forced to discover who she really is and what she wants to do with her life. Does she want to find another quiet place where she can be content or will she risk everything to reach for something greater?
I LOVED the characters. Orella is a soft girlie and I loved getting to see her find her strength beyond the physical. Caleb is the fae male sworn to protect her and he does not disappoint! His chemistry with Orella is perfect. Zaylen is perfection and I love him with my whole heart. Endri, Aeson and Vemari, the whole crew, love them ssso much!
This is a really fun fantasy read with an interesting plot, world and characters. 100% recommend if you enjoy fantasy romance and adventure.
Things to note: Spice Level: 0/5 . This is a SLOW BURN romance but so worth it. Chemistry is a 10/10 and the flirting and build up is sooo good. Tropes Include: Protective Vibes Forced Proximity Bodyguard Chosen one Found family
I just finished reading "A Destined Journey" AND WHAT IS THIS MASTERPIECE!? 😱😍
I entered this world expecting whimsy, fairytale and I was not disappointed! ✨
First, the characters. Orella is amazing! She's sweet, kind, strong, courageous and has a beautiful heart. Poor sweetheart she's been through so much 😭 Aeson, Endri, I love you with my whole heart. You both deserve the best ❤️ At first I wanted to slap Caleb, but he proved himself worthy and I like him more and more (thanks for the dagger, Champion). Iykyk. Zaylen. Oh my dear Zaylen. Can you be my older brother please?
The setting, the places, everything is so well written! Sometimes I felt like I was surrounded by pixie lights, sparkles and wonder in a whimsical atmosphere. I didn't want to leave! And please take me to Astrea 🥺
My heart went through a lot in this adventure; it was broken, glued together, burned in ashes, held together again and I regret nothing. If you are a romantasy lover who loves fairytales, you need to read it! 💖
Okay so now I feel hollow. I'm returning to my hobbit hole with a cup of tea full of tears and joy, waiting impatiently for the sequel. ☕
Wow! It has an Amazing plot and writing and is an excellent book overall. Throughout the whole book, I thought I was watching a movie! The characters were well-developed, the lands were well-described, and Caleb was SO good! I am so excited for the second book!
