The world was on fire. And I couldn't help but watch it burn.
Para, a nineteen year-old Grounder must make a vital decision–stay and burn with everything she knows and loves or try to find a way off her lifeless planet before it is consumed by fire.
Hundreds of years in the future, humanity hiding from a crumbling ozone layer, has retreated into the crevices of Earth. Now, these Grounders are forced to wait for the inevitable, a fate their ancestors named The Day of Sun, a day where the Sun will transform into a red giant and consume life itself.
This fate, realized all too soon, takes motion when fire sets ablaze across the only window the Grounders have to the above world. This historic day starts a ripple of panic in Para as the holy day is set in motion. She vows with every fiber of her being that she will give everything to make sure her family stays safe.
The world was on fire. And I couldn't help but watch it burn.
There are SO many twists and turns in the 299 pages of this book, I could never have imagined where it would go when I started. The characters are all so real, no one perfectly good or evil, and I lovvvve that. I’ll be waiting not-so-patiently for book #2!!!
I received an ebook ARC of The Day of Sun. Thank You Lauren Cole for the opportunity to review it. I am choosing to leave a review! Thanks so much!
The Day of Sun is a rocket ship ride through a dystopian world that is about to be decimated by the sun. Living underground in the West, Para (the main female character) and her family search to find a way to survive the day the sun incinerates the Earth. Through a series of events, they try to find their way to the prophesied "new world."
This was claustrophobic read for me that really hooked me from the start. I'm a big fan of dystopian worlds and this was on par with Hunger Games in keeping me hooked in on what was going to happen next. The Halls were my worst nightmare come true in the best way.
This story had wonderful world building and great characters that will invest you in what happens next to them and their world. "The world was on fire. And I couldn't help but watch it burn." Indeed.
I absolutely loved this book! From the memorable quotes to characters. I love that the main character, Para, isn’t perfect. I do have to say chapter 35…IYKYK!!!
…the cliffhanger…. I cannot wait for the second book!!!
If only I could write a review as good as this book. Para is no perfect hero and that’s what I love. Who would be living the life she has? The whole book leads you on the journey with her and is reminiscent of what we all fear is happening to our world now. Not to mention the isolation that covid left us with. What an incredible first novel that Lauren has written. It was full of imagery and I felt like I was there. I couldn’t put the book down one night and read 150 pages. That ending is leaving me neeeeeeding to know what happens. I cannot wait to see the movie because let’s face it. This book needs to be a movie one day. So thrilled I had to opportunity to pre read and highly recommend everyone read this.
I had the amazing honor of being apart of the ARC team of The Day of Sun. Thank You Lauren Cole for the opportunity to be apart of your journey!l From the introduction page to the very last page of the book, it had me wanting more! If you are looking for a Dystopian sci-fi this is your next read! "The world was on fire. And I couldn't help but watch it burn." Happy Reading Grounders !💜
3.5 stars! i received an ARC of this book and first i want to say that i am so impressed that this is lauren’s debut novel. the fact that she came up with this story on her own and wrote the dang thing at such a young age is so impressive to me. i wanted to LOVE this book, but found it hard to connect with the characters sadly :( still a fun, quick read though. the ending has me NEEDING to know what happens next though!
Beta reader here! This is the best book I have read in years! Do yourself a favor and pre-order this amazing book! I'm going to reread this so many times I can't wait for the next book! P.S. no idea why it has my brothers name but it's Natalie
The world is going to hell in a hand basket- or whatever my grandma would say but it’s the little things that make life bearable is having a good escape if even for a couple hours. THIS BOOK IS MY ESCAPE. It’s iconic, it’s the moment, PERIOD.
ARC reviewer here, I was fortunate enough to read the ebook! Firstly, as a debut, whaaaat!
For me, this needs a re-read.
Don't get me wrong. It's gripping! You become aware of those around Para. You form the same connections and yet, you get this niggly feeling that something isn't adding up - or at least, I did!
The reason for my 3 stars, after the one harrowing journey (iykyk), I felt like everything else was rushed. I had so many unanswered questions and a few loose ends. That on top of what Para is experiencing throughout the rest of the book threw me off for a bit, but that ENDING. That cliffhanger! Boy, am I still keen to keep reading.
Once I finish the re-read, I might change the rating but regardless, I am SO excited for the next book!
I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC copy of this book to read & review. It’s definitely an intriguing story that’ll keep you wondering. Im very impressed with this being Lauren’s first novel, I think overall she did a fantastic job! The only flaw for me is I had a hard time connecting with the characters.
