The magic of Christmas in a mountain ski town brings up long-forgotten holiday memories.
1965 – On a vacation to Big Bear Lake in California, Arnie Burke falls in love with the rustic small town. He finds an old log saloon for sale just outside of town and tries to talk his wife, Edna, into buying it and moving there. With two young children and a comfortable life on the California coast, Edna isn’t thrilled with the idea. But Arnie is persistent, promising they will build the lodge up to one day be one of the grandest resorts in town. Edna finally agrees, and the Mountain View Lodge is born.
Today – Cassandra (Cassie) Nichols has a busy life and a prestigious job in Los Angeles. She has quickly risen to the top of the Public Relations firm where she works and is responsible for many high-profile celebrity clients. She is also engaged to Blake Chandler, a handsome man with a job as demanding as hers. When she receives a call from her old school friend, now the manager of Mountain View Lodge, that her help is needed at her grandparents’ lodge over the holidays, Cassie reluctantly goes. Her grandparents have passed on, and her parents have also died, and now she’s responsible for selling the family business. If she could just get the lodge through a successful holiday season, she could close it until it sells. What Cassie doesn’t know is that the memories of her childhood, her parents, and even the guests who’ve been coming for decades will make her homesick for the place she once thought she’d never want to own.
Can a Christmas tradition and an old love help Cassie find her way home?

In my opinion, there is nothing better than reading Christmas stories in the months of November and December, getting me in the mood for the holiday season. And then when it's a Christmas story by one of my all-time favorite authors, it's the epitome of awesomeness.
Cassie gets called back to help out at her family lodge, which is fine because after the first of the year it won't be her problem anymore. The lodge, which was such a big part of her life growing up, is about to be sold. Little did she know that spending time there again would bring back all of the memories, feelings, and love that she had for her family and the people who were such an important part of her life and the lodge.
There is so much sweetness and love in this story that it brought tears to my eyes many times, and yes, I may get a little emotional this time of year. That's why this was such a beautiful tale to take in right now. It showcases the good in people and the importance of traditions to a person's wellbeing.
Christmas at Mountain View Lodge is definitely going to be one of my favorite Christmas reads of all time. I got me in all of my feels. Have a tissue handy when you start this book.
I highly recommend Christmas at Mountain View Lodge as the perfect holiday story to read this time of year.
P.S. And I'm pretty sure Deanna left a Stephen King Easter egg in the story. 🥚 Let me know if you find it.
This is a dual timeline story of the owners and family of Mountain View Lodge. Cassie is engaged to Blake, living in LA where they both babysit celebrities. She is asked to come help out at her parents' lodge over Christmas. This is a wonderful story about what is truly important.
I loved Christmas at Mountain View Lodge so much that I read it in one sitting! This book takes place with three generations running the Lodge through the years. Of course, there are three different love stories going on throughout the years. Deanna Lynn Sletten never disappoints me. This is a great feel-good Christmas book!
As with all of Deanna Slettens book, the characters are people you would want as friends, or want to be like. She has great story lines, and this book is just perfect for Christmas. Grab a cookie, a cup of something warm to drink, a cozy blanket and be transported into a warm, wonderful feeling of Christmas!
I enjoyed this sweet, clean book set at a family lodge around Christmas with some dual timeline family memories too! Her grandparents bought the lodge and her parents ran it too. Now it’s her turn, or will she go back to her big city PR job? Scheduled to sell after New Years, she has a buyer. Now what? Loved it!
This is a short novelette that is identical to many Hallmark Christmas movies. Cassie returns from big city LA to small town Big Bear to sell her family's lodge. You can see the ending a mile away, but as with those movies, it is still satisfying to read the story.
I really enjoyed this story going back three generations of women and their lives at a resort in the California mountains. I have read many of Ms. Sletten's books and they have all been very good stories. I just hope she continues to write more books.
I really enjoyed this book! The characters and the storyline was wonderful. I loved how the story switched he'd back and forth so we could get the whole backstory.
