Coyote Sunrise was a magical book that was NOT in need of a sequel, so when I learned about Coyote Lost and Found, I was understandably skeptical. It seemed like a real possibility that this book would suffer from the dreaded “second book syndrome” and I was nervous to read it fearing that it would taint my view of the characters and the overarching story.

Happily, this was very nearly as good as book one and just as emotional. I was worried it might feel forced or contrived for them to be back on the bus, but the reason for their journey felt perfectly natural. Coyote and her father are both such warm and beautiful souls who treat strangers like family. The world would be a better place if we all showed a little more genuine interest in one another. Almost makes this introvert want to talk to strangers. 🙃

Highly recommend reading this series, especially if you feel like a good cry! 🥲

With those opening words I knew I was going to love the sequel to The Remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise. And oh how I loved it. And that cover. And spending time with characters both familiar and new.

The writing made me feel like I was grieving and growing with them. I wasn’t 20 pages in before I was grabbing book darts to mark passages. I had a seat on that bus alongside this cast of characters old and new that left a lasting mark on my heart.

There was a time or two when my eyes got a bit misty and I exhaled a big sigh. There were absolutely moments near the end when I cried big, fat, heavy tears. It was So.GOOD!

J'avais tellement aimé "L'incroyable voyage de Coyote Sunrise", j'espérais sincèrement retrouver le même coup de coeur avec cette suite. Je confirme, ce roman était tout simplement parfait.

On retrouve donc la charmante et fonceuse Coyote et son père Rodeo, avec une nouvelle quête bien importante (je reste évasive sur les détails pour ne pas divulgâcher l'histoire!). Leur épopée les entraînera à redécouvrir des endroits et à faire la rencontre de gens qui auront une signification et un impact pour différentes raisons.

Les émotions sont au coeur de ce roman. C'est beau, c'est doux, c'est triste à la fois mais c'est immensément puissant. Ce roman nous fait réfléchir et nous fait du bien, tout en nous arrachant de petites parcelles de coeur.

I love when a middle grade book meant for 8-13 years olds can make me feel all the feels. Ohh Coyote Sunshine has such a special place in my heart. This the second book and it was just as adorable as the first. This book brings emotions to the table and the question of how would I handle something like that? The ending made my eyes water. I am grateful for my friends… aren’t I lucky to have friends?

Sequels are never better than the originals….except when they are!! Being back on that bus with Coyote and Rodeo on their wild adventures made my soul happy in a way that can only be the result of a perfect book. This one matured with Coyote and Rodeo and was more emotional and complex. I cried, I cried and I cried.

Don’t sleep on middle grade books. They may be written for tweens but they fill my middle aged soul with hope and dreams. ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

A heartfelt middle grade road trip novel that picks up where the last book left off and sees Coyote, her dad, her friend and her dad's new girlfriend retracing their previous journey in search of her mother's missing poetry book. A beautiful story of friendship, love, grief and learning to let go. Coyote is such a memorable protagonist and I really hope there will be more books! It’s been almost a year since Coyote and Rodeo settled down in Oregon and said goodbye to life on the road in Yager, but when Coyote finds her mother’s ashes on the old school bus, she wants answers from her father. Apparently he and her mom wrote where they’d want their ashes scattered in a book of poetry. Coyote quickly realizes she gave away the book last year and it could be one of four places. Not telling Rodeo she lost it, she says they must go on a quest before scattering her mom’s ashes where she wrote she wanted her final resting place to be. Bringing along Salvador, her bestie partner in crime, they search for the book that holds the answers to her mom’s final wish.

I didn’t think Coyote could make me shed anymore tears, but I was wrong. If you loved Coyote Sunrise as much as I did, you will find yourself immersed in this MG sequel just as much. Coyote, Rodeo, Salvador and their new group of vagabonds are some of the kindest and loving characters I’ve ever read before. @dangemeinhart truly has a gift with crafting stories full of heart and filling up my soul. “How lucky am I?” Every human should read this novel when it releases February 27.

What an absolute joy it was to step back into Coyote’s world. When I heard there was a follow up to Coyote Sunrise (my favorite!), I thought - yippee! But…how can Dan Gemeinhart possibly follow up one of the best MG books of all time with a second story that will come anywhere CLOSE to the beauty and heart and magic of the first?? Well, HE DID IT! This book is perfection. Coyote and crew are even more endearing, somehow, than in the first adventure. Maybe it’s because I already consider them friends? Or maybe it’s just because this book is so remarkable. Thank you, thank you, for giving the world another powerful and funny and thrilling Coyote story. I loved it.

If you loved the first book in the Coyote Sunrise series, you will also love this one. Coyote and her dad, Rodeo, are on a new adventure in their bus. A lot has been changing in their world. Coyote now goes to a public school and struggles to make friends, Rodeo has a new (girl?) friend, and now the world is changing around them due to the Corona Virus. With an old friend and some new ones, they take to the road on a mission to bury Coyote's mom's cremains. As you can guess, there are lots of twists, turns, and high emotions as the story unfolds.

This book hit me in the feels and had some tears rolling down my face. I could feel the love all around Coyote and I found that to be the most touching and unexpected surprise from this book. It isn't often that a book can inject those feelings directly into your heart, so you know it is special when it does. The audiobook narrator is the same as the first books and just does a really amazing job conveying everything in the book.

Mon doux que j’avais hâte de retrouver Coyote et Rodéo. Le premier tome avait été un coup de cœur, et c’est encore le cas pour celui-ci. L’écriture colorée est toujours aussi agréable à lire. Les personnages sont si attachants dans leur imperfection. Cette histoire, c’est un condensé d’émotions, de beau, de doux, de touchant. C’est le deuil, l’amour, le pardon, l’amitié et la gratitude. Love, love, love this book!! Coyote now lives in a home with her Dad. She can’t make friends so hanging out on their bus Yager, she finds her Mom ashes. So she confronts her Dad and he tells her in a poetry book her mom gives instructions on where to spread her ashes. The problem…they gave away the book!!! So Coyote needs to find the book, without her Dad knowing!!! So off on Yager in Covid they journey to find the book!! Can they find it and put her Mom to rest?? Only Coyote knows??
Excellent book!! This author write this character so beautifully, I could read about Coyote all day long!! I was worried about the Covid troupe but it was done so well. Really if you want to read an excellent middle grade series read Coyote Sunrise. You won’t regret it!!

This book shows the deep connection of family. Ella(Coyote) has lost both her sisters and her mother. Coyote feels the loss of her family when she finds her mother’s ashes on Yager. The adventure of finding Coyote Mom’s favorite book brings again an adventure to bring back the family in Coyote and her father’s life. With new and old friends Coyote’s adventure could be finished or continue on. I hope another Coyote Sunrise book comes out for me to enjoy again. This is a very good book that was very enjoyable to read.

2.5 stars. Gemeinhart is one of my favorite authors. I have read every single book he has written. This is my least favorite by far. Some reasons I didn’t like this book are personal convictions such as I don’t believe in spreading ashes and the language was often pretty terrible using the Lord’s name in vain/carelessly multiple times in the book. Aside from that, I did not like the Covid storyline or the Facebook reference. To me, social media dates the book quickly instead of making it timeless. All that being said, it was compelling and I definitely wanted to see if they would find the book and what it had to say. After the climax however, I had a hard time wanting to finish the rest, but was close enough to the end to be invested enough to do so. I hope he starts to back off on the swearing. It does absolutely nothing to help the book.

The plot was riveting, the characters delightful, YET the language for young readers was simply unacceptable for me / words like goddamn and helluva and crappy and “**ukked” (with a comment that it was amended from what the person actually said)..

Can we let kids be kids and not use language that seems so crass? Call me old-fashioned, I guess … a good story was compromised. I love Dan Gemeinhart’s books.

I liked this book from the start, but I didn't love it like I did the first. But then . . . oh my! It grabbed me emotionally just like the first one had. It just took a little longer to get there. Rather than share a few tidbits about this middle grade novel, I'm going to share a portion from the last chapter (narrated by Coyote, the protagonist) which sums up the book so beautifully.
"At first, I thought this was a story about going on a journey to scatter some ashes. Then I thought it was a story about going on a journey to track down a book. And for a little while there I thought it was a story about cleaning up messes. And a story, maybe, about growing wings...And maybe, way down in the middle, it was really about finding." Loved this book! If you enjoy memorable middle grade novels, give this one a try but I would recommend reading Coyote Sunrise first.

A fantastic sequel to an already amazing middle grade book. It took me awhile to get through this one because I was in the middle of a reading rut, but I am so glad I finished this book because it is so moving and imperfect and a total modern classic. It was especially jarring to finish reading this book after reading middle grade books with bland main characters because Coyote and the others feel completely and totally real to me.

This book is so beautiful. The perfect continuation of Coyote’s story. Despite crying tears enough to fill Yager, I could not put this down.
