Possessive Love

The Demon Undertaker: An MM Paranormal Romance

Rate this book
Perfect Shores Funeral Parlour: Where we bury the bodies and reap the SOULS!

Mal

Perfect Shores Funeral Parlour, the family business; we bury the bodies and reap the souls, it’s what we do.

“Be nice to the humans, Mal.” My father insists. “Humans are our business.”

I don’t do humans. I don’t like humans. They’re tedious, but I'm cold and unfeeling. They mean nothing to me.

But then he walks in; sad eyes, sallow skin, a man grieving for his lost love. It’s all I can do not to hide him away and take care of him.

This wasn’t supposed to happen. He wasn’t supposed to happen; now I don’t know how to handle these feelings.

Doesn’t he know I’m a demon, not a lover?

Jason

“It’s time to move on, Jase.” Kristine’s words ring in my ears as I enter Perfect Shores Funeral Parlour, but that isn’t what I have in mind.

You see, I’ve heard of a man that can bring him back from the dead and I’ll do anything to hold him in my arms again. Kieran was my world until his ended.

But then there he is. Tall, dark and brooding, but he’s not the one I’m here to see. He’s not the one that can bring Kieran back to me.

Something about him, though. I can’t explain how he brings a long-forgotten smile to my face, how my stone-cold heart beats a little faster.

This wasn’t supposed to happen. He wasn’t supposed to happen.

But he’s a demon, not my dead lover.

The Demon Undertaker is part of the Possessive Love series featuring a demon and a human.

An MM standalone featuring a demon with no clue, a human with no clue, an annoying brother and a cute hellhound! Plenty of steam abounds!

I had to think about how to review this as I had some thoughts on this one.

Slight not really spoilers ahead

So in here we have Mal, a reaper of souls who was kind of bored, tbh. He worked in the family business of getting rid of the bodies he and his family reaped through their funeral home.

We also had Jason, whose partner died and he was looking to get him back. With that cheery thought, they meet and eventually start having feelings about each other.

This was a slow burn and not worth the wait, in my opinion.

I really did not like Jason. I mean when you dislike an mc, the book just doesn't hit you right. Jason was just mean and rude at times and his best friend should have kicked him to the curb.

Outside of Jason, I really did like Mal's brother and the hound and would love to know more about them.

I’ve really enjoyed the past books I have read by this author. This book was a lot less angsty and different than what I’m used to but it was a very cute read. Showed one MC learning how to move on after his husband passed away but in a very low-angst way.

I was really happy to see Jason happy again with Mal who was an interesting demon. I enjoyed seeing him want Jason and I loved their HEA.

I haven’t read any of the others in this series but they sound like fun. I do look forward to reading more by this author in the future.

This was an unexpected treat. A wonderful story told of a human named Jason that is grieving the loss of his husband. It’s been eighteen months, and while some people are telling him he needs to start moving on he feels like it’s been too short a time. Jason is stuck in this deep void where nothing really matters anymore.
He decides one day to finally get a haircut because a little bit of cleanup might make him feel better, when he stumbles upon someone named Zeke who offers a service that will bring his dead husband back to life. Jason would give anything to have his husband back so he goes to meet with Zeke at the funeral home. He instead runs into Zeke’s brother - Mal - who tells Jason a little bit about the service he is requesting.

Mal is a demon that has run a funeral home for many years. The job is mostly for collecting souls. Mal runs through this job with no cares whatsoever for what he’s doing. His brother Zeke usually takes care of the other side of business which is bringing the dead back to life. When Mal meets Jason his demon starts acting crazy. After another impromptu run in he asks for some advice from his father on why his demon is acting out, and finds out that Jason could be his mate.

What I loved most about the whole mates thing was it wasn’t insta and there was no pressure. Jason doesn’t even know Mal is his mate. I had major respect for that. Mal at all times respected Jason and his grieving process. Mal was just there for Jason. Although, Mal had some possessive moments and I LOVED them - it was the healthy kind of possessive.
It was beautiful to watch Jason slowly, day by day, change his life around. He starts coming more and more out of his shell, starts changing his habits, and he even allows himself to have a sliver of lust for another man.
I really enjoyed these two together and the world they exist in. It was a fun, light read. Which fun sounds weird to say since it’s a grieving man, but if you read it you’ll understand.

My only dislike was the imagery. There was a disconnect sometimes on mostly locations and character descriptions.
As in, they would be in the shop and then they’re at the cafe. Or they’re outside and then they’re inside. There needed to be a little something to close the gap, but it wasn’t annoying enough to throw me off.
For character descriptions: I couldn’t picture them well enough in my head. I would have loved a little more detail about them.

Overall, I felt like this could have been even a little bit longer. I really enjoyed it and would have happily read more.

I received an ARC from BookSirens and this is my honest review

Received from Booksirens. Nope, I wasn't paid for this. Yep, full honesty. It says possessive love, but compared to the dark, stalker stuff I'm reading now, it's soft. Bad things could happen, there's the potential for poltergeist or demon chaos. Instead, it's a paranormal second love romance. I did like the demon funeral parlor set up. That's one way to streamline business. I'm curious about the rest of the demons. Soft fated mates HEA.

Loved this sweet love story between a human and demon ❤️ Fated mates and size difference are some of the tropes in this short story ❤️

Jason and Mal's story was quite entertaining and also a decent read. I liked the whole demon for a mate idea. Mal was my favourite character, he really was a big old teddy bear. I also liked the character of Zeke, his brother, and his dog Smokey, a hellhound. I loved that idea. Unfortunately, I found that I couldn't warm to Jason, I found him rude and disrespectful at times, especially towards his best friend. His behaviour took me out of the story at times.3.5 stars.

3.5* overall
The first book of the Possessive Love series I had the chance to read, and I am a bit torn about the rating.

I actually really loved the gentle giant trope with Mal and his stubborn human Jason. What I did not enjoy was that the book is so short - despite all the possible hurt/comfort that we, unfortunately, do not get - and the relatively quick pace but lack of any mystery, which is teased at the very beginning. The smut is a bit slow burn and with dirty talk but quite worth it!

I think the book could've been much longer and the relationship would make sense. Now, it is mainly based on lust and physical needs. That is also influenced by the fact that there is little sense of time. We are only told that a week or two has passed, but it is not really referenced throughout.

The fact that there is so little hurt/comfort for a mourning character was a bit surprising.

Yet another thing I did not like was that there was so much telling rather than showing. We are only told that Mal is strong and feared, not shown. We are only told he hates humans, but we do not witness it. We are only told that Jason is losing weight and feeling weak, without any more characterization.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

OMG!!! I loved this. I really enjoyed this. Such a great addition to this series. This series is such a fun and entertaining read... from cute fun sized demons to hunky demons and Man oh man...Mal was HOT but also a big grump...LOL. I wasn't sure how he was gonna get over his intense dislike of humans ...then Jason shows up and sparks literally fly...Jason was such a tragic character. I really felt for him...his grief was so intense...it leads him to make bad decisions and I was actually yelling "DONT DO IT!!"...I thank fate for putting Mal there...to be his friend and help him through his grief to actually learn to live again. Jason did have a support of friends but Mal was that special demon that totally turn his life around . This romance will probably make you teary...definitely will make you laugh (Zeke..nuff said)...enough demon sex to keep it spicy and HOT...mating drama to keep it a page turner and a wonderful ending that will have you wishing for more. All I know is...Alex J betta be coming out with a romance for Zeke...HA!

I’m a sucker for a fated mate story. There is some hurt/comfort, some grumpy/grumpy, little touch him and die.
I really enjoyed Mal’s acceptance of his fate. No freak out over it. Jason needed some warming up and an attitude adjustment. Kristine was really a saint.
I enjoyed this story. I would’ve happily done without the waiter and the grandson, but I understand their purpose. But I would’ve traded them for more relationship development. I really wish this story had been longer for some more character personality to shine and more relationship interaction.

I received an arc in exchange for an honest review.

A human in mourning and a demon who doesn't 'do' humans. Jason and Mal were wonderful characters and I loved watching Jason on his healing journey but I was kind of irked by the people in his life trying to fast-track his grief. Mal was exactly what he needed, his mere presence made it impossible for him to be anything other than totally present and not mired in his loss. A highly enjoyable read and a great addition to this multi-author series.

I truly loved this book!
As a reader who likes a variety, I love that Alex J Adams doesn’t stick to any particular trope or limit herself to predictable plots.
In The Demon Undertaker, she took a trope I’d never read before and wrote a story that was so easy get lost in that I didn’t want it to end.
Undertaker Mal is a socially inept, ages old demon in human form running a funeral parlor with his brother in order to reap souls.
Jason is still grieving after the loss of his husband Kieran 18 months ago, barely functioning enough day to day to run his antique store and relying heavily on his friend Kristine.
Then he meets Mal’s brother Zeke, who sees Jason as a business opportunity and makes him a proposal he can’t refuse….to bring Kieran back from the dead!
When Mal and Jason meet, there’s an immediate connection there but Jason is too guilt ridden at the prospect of moving on to give it a second thought, while poor Mal is just totally confused. He doesn’t even like humans so why is Jason having this effect on him and why is his demon side so restless?
The story that ensues from there is wrought with well written, raw emotions and a slow burn, building attraction as Mal and Jason spend time together discussing bringing Kieran back.
I love how protective Mal becomes of Jason, showing up at just the right time to intervene when other men show interest in him.
Growly, protective Mal is hot AF. 🔥
Jason is fully accepting when Mal shows him his demon side and when these two finally give in to their feelings and attraction, there are literal sparks!
Sex in broad daylight + a dirty talking demon = a heart racing scene that had my thighs clenching. 🥵
Add in a threat looming from the other realm, Mal’s adorable hellhound, an alpha demon claiming his human mate with “Mine. Mine. Mine.” and all the swoony, feel good moments, and this book has me craving a sexy demon of my own. 🥰🥵😈

great premise, missed opportunity

Rating: 2.5 🌈

The Demon Undertaker (Possessive Love) by Alex J. Adam’s is another book in the Possessive Love collection that’s written by an author new to me.

I thought the premise of a mortuary run by demon brothers a terrific idea. Bury the bodies, collect the souls of the nasty ones. Or whatever. Doesn’t mention what happens to all the other souls of the people they bury, which should be a lot.

Even better, the author had the demons locate the whole business to a section of town where the population was old and aging out. But there’s an issue logically here only slightly mentioned as business getting slow. The errors are in the design and development here.

It was also noted that it was a bad sector of town but that went nowhere in the narrative and I thought it was a missed opportunity.

There’s so many elements here that are not very well explained or even understood. That includes the characters.

There’s poor Kieran who lost his beloved husband of 5 years to cancer and is still lost in his grief. That’s natural. There’s no timetable for mourning the loss of someone you’ve deeply loved. And everyone here is pushing him to move forward as they are worried about him.

However, as the story goes, Kieran is lost in his grief so deeply he’ll make a deal with a demon to bring hubby back to immediately he’s fine now and having sexual relations. Was any of that believable? No. Just no foundation work laid out for this transition to make sense.

Let’s talk demons. Who aren’t particularly demonic. Or scary even. They have a caring Mom and Dad down in Hell looking after them, and a cute Hellhound who’s not particularly hellish itself. I find some trick or treaters more frightening.

Mal doesn’t like humans until he does, because, look Kieran is his fated mate!!

Then drama from out of the blue arrives because, idk, it was needed, but had no foundation.

The lesbian couple Kieran worked with was the best part of the story aside from the premise which went nowhere and was wasted.

That was the real shame here. Because that original premise of this story? Interesting, and ultimately lost.
What happens when you are in a neighborhood that ages out and the turnover is all younger? If you’re only taking the nasty souls, what’s going on with the souls of the other bodies that you are burying? So many questions that could have been raised and answered in a story that was written with that premise in mind.

Not a recommendation unless you are a fan of the author. Then it’s up to you.

So, I liked the general story overall, even if the climax (no pun intended) of the story was a bit anti-climactic. Don't know why I'm fascinated with the concept of demons, as in demons not being the bane of the world but rather just another species existing in this vast universe of ours.

There are still some questions that were left unanswered. Like

What I will say is that I couldn't feel the grief Jason was supposed to feel. I was also a little stumped at the transition between being bereaved and moving on. Maybe because Jasons turmoil happened off page? We were in Mal's head when he questioned if Jason would call him and not in Jason's struggling with decisions. I get that, in the scene we had to be in Mals head as it was conveying urgency and a need for some answers but then one needed to be beforehand or after.

The same happened when Jason came into the shop and was questioned by Kristine about why he looked lighter one point and in a another scene gloomy. He told us about his night struggling with memories, he told us about having had some thoughts and revelations in this time but we didn't get to experience them with him or understand what he came to understand, what changed, what made him sad or happy or content.

Another thing that irked a bit was the pushiness about him snapping out of his grief. I get that friends worry, family worries, everyone want their loved one being happy and whole. But there is concern and a push to seek help and there is "it's time to move on it has been long enough".

That is probably what I was struggling with the most and why even though I rounded up the stars at the time I am writing this review, I'm still not sure. I certainly will keep a lookout for Zeeks book.

I wanted to give Jason a big hug, and I wanted to give Mal a big shake. But that didn't last long (the shake--the hug lasted through the whole novel). They finally figured out their chemistry, their zing. Mal's bluntness helped, as did Smokey the dog. I'd say Zeke helped, but he's a hot mess (who's ready to get his comeuppance in the form of his own HEA).

These two were fucking adorable though. It was rocky at first..and in the middle. But they--wait for it--communicated and figured it out. Their romance was fast, faster if not for Mal not loving humans and Jason grieving his lost husband. But the connection these two had? The undeniable fate? The love and commitment? It was beautiful.

Trigger Warnings: death of a loved one, a terminal illness, and more.

Ok, I love stories about demons - whether they be sweet and fluffy or dark and angsty. This one kind of falls in the middle of these two, although it definitely leans more to the dark side.

Jason is in mourning for his dead husband, and barely living himself. He is consumed by his grief and has pushed a lot of people in his life aside. Mal, a demon, operates a funeral parlor with his brother, Zeke - which is really a front for their real work, that of reaping souls for the underworld. In a twist of fate, Jason meets Zeke, who offers him the chance to resurrect his dead husband - but without thoroughly explaining all it entails. When Mal meets Jason his demon instantly rises up with a chorus of "Mine" - which doesn't especially please Mal. The story is basically about Jason coming to terms with the death of his husband and his attraction to Mal, while, antisocial Mal has to come to terms with the idea of having a human mate. Mal's brother, Zeke, plays a prominent role in the plot, and Jason's best friend, Kirsten, is a decent secondary character. I think what held me back from giving this a 5* star rating was that I found the general ambience of the story to be kind of morose and depressing. An awful lot of time was spent on both the MC's sort of wallowing in their respective troubles and it took 3/4 of the book before they actually gave in to their attraction. Then the author sort of threw in a bit of side drama from the demon world - which I was all for - until it was resolved too quickly and without much time spent on developing it. I would have liked to have seen a bit more of the demon interactions and a little more darkness. As it was, it was sort of there and gone and I didn't really feel like it carried the impact it could have.
All that said, it was still a decent story and a very interesting plot. I can't really find any flaws, other than to say, it was darker than I'd expected and I'd have liked to have a bit "more". Something. I can't quite put my finger on it and I encourage you to go ahead and give this a try. I got a copy of this ARC through Book Sirens and this is my honest appraisal of this book. Solid 4*stars!

2.5 stars for taking a basic, boring heteronormative PNR, gender swapping one of the characters and calling it MM. The human MC is so female-coded it’s just horrifying. He’s a sad, grieving widow(er) who is too thin because of his grief (smol uwu), he owns an antique shop, he’s incapable of standing up for himself, he only bottoms (they never even use LUBE and there’s no prep and barely any foreplay except the 1st time) etc.

There’s an incredibly cringeworthy scene where another guy takes him out to lunch on work pretenses, hits on him, and when he gets up to leave, the creep grabs his arm to stop him and goes all “you know you want it” and then the demon MC appears out of nowhere and is just like “release him” and he does, so human MC is all like “thanks omg u totally saved me back there 🥰” like… has this author ever met any man ever???? I mean first of all, no gay man is that desperate to get laid that they’re gonna chase some dude and beg for his attention… i mean, it’s famously easy to hook up if you’re a gay man. Also, dudes who put hands on other dudes are cruising for a bruising, like they know they’re gonna get in a fight if they try it, so if that guy is down to fight the human MC why did he cow when the demon MC came by? (Because the demon MC is the REAL man here 🙄🙄🙄 I do not endorse this heterosexual bull crap BTW I’m just calling ‘em like I see ‘em.) Thirdly, if you’re a typical guy and this happened to you (dude tried to get physical and someone else called them off) you’d probably be embarrassed and have your ego bruised, you might even be mad at the person who intervened, like “wtf, i had that, i don’t need your help,” like it’s an awkward and emasculating situation that doesn’t endear you to your rescuer.

There is some OM/ex drama that comes up for like 2 seconds only to be deus ex machina’d to oblivion with magic. Then the MCs do their demon mating thing and the human MC finds out all the effects of mating magic afterwards and is SHOCKED because they told him nothing and suddenly he’s got boyfriend telepathy and demon lifespan… eeeeek talk to each other PLEASE!!!

Independent reviewer for BookSirens, I was gifted my copy of this book.

This book is part of the Possessive Love series, some 14 books by different authors. I've not read any of them, I've no idea how they connect, if at all, therefore, I didn't miss anything byt not doing so. I might go back, when that magical thing called time allows, but not because I have to, because I want to.

Mal is a demon undertaker. Jason crosses his path when Mal's brother, Zeke, offers to raise Jason's dead husband. Mal is drawn to the human, and he doesn't know why. When a demon from Mal's past makes an ultimatum, Mal knows he cannot commit to another demon as their mate, not when Jason is his.

Mal doesn't like humans, he works in the background of their business for that reason. So being drawn to Jason comes as a shock. Jason is still grieving after 18 months. There is no time limit to grief but Jason can't move on. Not yet. But Mal? Mal makes Jason feel for the first time in a long time, something other than pain.

I loved that neither man nor demon can point WHY they are drawn to each other, but they do run with it. I love that Jason, especially, runs with it. He takes the time to think, but things get dicey with Mal's ex. THEN Jason steps up and fully and totally commits.

It's dark and deadly: Mal and Zeke are demons afterall. It's funny and cute; it's emotional and so smexy. It's one of those books that delivers what it promised but you don't know what it's promising til you read it, you know??

Adams is an author I have followed from the very beginning. I can honestly say, I'm loving the newer stuff she writes, as she continues to hone her craft. THIS book was no exception. THIS is my favourite book so far. I'm fairly certain, I'll be saying that for the next one too!

5 full and shiny stars

What to do when you are a demon undertaker reaping souls for a living and your fated mate walks in still grieving for his lost love? Thus is the conundrum facing Mal as he tries to navigate the ins and outs of giving Jason time to discover who he is without his deceased love while attempting to court the man who is meant to be his forever.

Admittedly, Jason was a hard sell to begin with. Yes, he was grieving; but that is no excuse for treating everyone in his life like dirt. His friends stepped up and helped with his business, his health, and his other responsibilities. . . but after eighteen months, he needed to act a little more grateful and a little less whiny and oblivious to other's pain. Mal is not a people-person, but he is aware of that shortcoming and works around it as best he can.

The story was decidedly as slow-burn, but the HEA was very satisfying. Zeke was a fun loving foil to Mal's tendency to overthink. The banter between the brothers was delightful and fast paced. The descriptions of the settings and characters were excellent - very easy to picture in the mind. The pacing was smooth and not too slow, and the sweet scenes between the two male leads gives the readers all kinds of warm fuzzy feelings.

In "The Demon Undertaker," we are introduced to a heartbroken protagonist, Jason, who has recently lost his beloved husband. In his quest to find solace and meaning in life again, he crosses paths with Mal, a character initially shrouded in a veil of cold detachment. However, as the story unfolds, we discover the depth of warmth and love that Mal possesses, which adds a beautiful layer of complexity to this narrative.

One of the most striking aspects of this book is the palpable chemistry between Jason and Mal. The sparks that fly between them practically leap off the page, drawing the reader into their emotional journey. The unexpected intensity of their connection is a pleasant surprise and adds a passionate dimension to the story that keeps you eagerly turning the pages.

Alex has done a remarkable job in crafting this story of love and healing. The story's ability to capture the essence of love, grief, and ultimately, resilience is a testament to Alex's talent as a writer.

As a reader, I found myself completely engrossed in Jason and Mal's story, and like many others, I'm left hoping for another installment in this series. This is not just a love story; it's a tale of finding hope and happiness in the midst of despair.

Thank you, Alex, for delivering yet another incredible read that touched my heart and left me yearning for more.

When you live in a world where you hate those around you, but it's better than the world you belong to, and you live there for the family business, what do you do when you find someone to change your feelings? When he comes to your normal business but for the family business rather than the public one? When that person looks lost, lonely, and barely living, would you do anything to change his mind about why he came to your family in the first place?
When you feel you have nothing to live for and only want your heart back and whole, can you learn to live again and find more meaning in that living? Can you open yourself to life and love, or do you risk everything to have the past again?
Mal never again wanted to give his heart to another after being betrayed and left, never really believing in mates. Is he ever surprised when the proof walks in the door? When Jason meets a man who promises he can bring him back his heart and life, will he take the chance? What will he do when he meets another who wants to convince him there is a different and better way to find life and love without mortal risk? Can he accept all he finds out, and can he be what he truly is to this man, this demon?
Alex gives an enjoyable story of finding your true love and finding that you can really love more than once.

5 stars, and hot and spicy.

Take one demon that has no time for humans or other demons and have Fate select a human mate for him. Not just any human mate but one that is still grieving deeply for the husband he lost to illness 18 months prior. Mal is the demon undertaker that owns the local funeral parlor with his brother, Zeke. Jason owns an antique store that his best friend, Kristine, has been running since the death of his husband. When they meet the first time, let's just say it isn't an instant love. But circumstances continue to throw the two together in different situations that allow them to slowly start a friendship, which is all Jason thinks he can manage without feeling guilt. This book covers the difficult subject of losing a spouse/loved one, but it is handled well by allowing Jason to work through it with the help of his friends and ultimately, a demon of all people. So, get this book and see a sweet & tender side of a demon come out after he meets the irresistible Jason. It shocks Mal that he now has "soft" feelings towards certain humans that he considers friends. You will read along to Jason coming to terms with the death of his husband and being okay with moving on. There is also funny parts that keep what could be a dark book, lighter and fun to read. 4,5 🌟. I really enjoyed this book. Alex has tried something new & it’s a pleasure seeing her journey as an author & being able to read each new story she explores.

Alex never shy’s away from tackling strong emotions, in this story we experience grief, despair, confusion, hope & new beginnings……….. & so much snark & humour, which I absolutely loved!!

Jason maybe a character that some will find difficult to embrace initially ( I actually liked him, he’s raw & real). He is sometimes thoughtless towards his best friend & business partner, however, grief is such a personal journey that we all experience very differently & there is no right or wrong way to travel this path. All we can hope for is that friends & family are able to be patient & support us as we move forward & realise our new future. Jason is lucky enough to have this! & then there’s Mal, our demon who dislikes people, is a bit of a grump hiding a caring and possessive side; I loved his character 🙃.

I really enjoyed watching Jason & Mal embrace new feelings, exploring their differences & new future. Once again Alex threw in some amazing side characters who complimented this story beautifully. Zeke!! Please tell me he gets his own story………

Review - The Demon Undertaker by Alex J Adams

4 . 5 🖤

This is my second read form this multi author series and for me it was another hit. This book is different to what I am used to from Alex, This is quite low on angst and is sweeter than I expected it to be.
I didn't really like Mal for the first couple of chapters but he really grew on me and I found myself rooting for him to get together with Jason. Jason at times I wanted to give a little shake then hug him and push him towards Mal. Grief is very different for everyone but it almost felt like he refused to let himself heal and continue living. That being said, I really did like Jason. He was easy to love and I wished I could be his friend.I really liked that while it turned out he was Mals “mate” there wasn't any insta love. Mal really respected Jason's grieving process and didn't try to rush him or pressure him. I also really liked it when Mal got a little possessive especially when he wasn't sure why his demon was playing up around Jason. I honestly found it hard to put this book down, to say Alex hasn't wrote anything like this before you wouldn't know. The writing just flows and i could help but end up craving another demon by the end of this book

I received a copy in return for my honest review

Mal is a demon and along with his brother, they run the Perfect Shores Funeral Parlour where they bury bodies while also reaping the souls. Generally, he doesn't like humans and finds them tedious but tolerates them. Then Jason walks in with sad eyes grieving for his lost love and all Mal wants to do is hide him away and take care of him. Kristine Jason's best friend tells him it is time to move on from the death of his husband Kieran from cancer but he is at the funeral parlour as he has heard of a man who can bring him back from the dead and he will do anything to make that happen. When Jason seems Mal he can see he is not the man he was there to see bu he is someone who brings a long forgotten smile to his face and his stone=cold heart to beat faster.

This was a fun story with a demon finds his mate who is still heart-broken over his late husband. I liked the way that Mal tried everything to keep information and the pressure as simple and easy as possible for Jason in order to be sensitive. I also liked his focus on consent and his determination to make sure that Jason had decided to be with him even if that came with a cost to himself. Easy to read, feel and understand. This is an MM story with mature content.

Occasionally, I enjoy an MM Paranormal Romance, and The Demon Undertaker by Alex J. Adams proved to be a good selection. The idea of a couple of Demon guys running the Perfect Shores Funeral Parlour, a front for the actual business, which is all about reaping the souls of the dead for the other side, was highly original.

While his brother Zeke is busy running a productive sideline to the business and engaging in sexual gymnastics with new partners every night, Mal is only interested in running the business. Sex is the farthest thing from his mind until Jase enters their funeral parlour.

Jase has struggled following the loss of his husband, Kieran. Were it not for the loyalty of his employee, Kristine, the antiques shop he owns would likely have shut up shop. When he first meets Mal, he feels an unexpected attraction to him. But will it be enough for him to put an end to his mourning and start living again?

Alex J. Adams has produced an enjoyable story that is both an easy read and entertaining. You don’t have to be particularly into demons to enjoy this one, and I can happily recommend it to readers.

This is part of the multi author possessive love series, with a - you guessed it - demon who is an undertaker and a grieving man finding what he didn't know he needed.

First of all, this is HOT 🥵. I think this may be the hottest story Alex has written to date. Seriously I needed a fan at some of the scenes. The best part is, it's not insta-lust, it's well crafted and fits with the story she is telling. For a short-ish book there's a lot going on here and it's commendable how much is packed into the pages. It's paranormal, yes, but it's also an examination of grief and how it affects the person and those around them, and that part is quite powerful. Jason is grieving the sudden loss of a beloved partner and not looking to move on, initially. I will admit to being a little lost with the resurrection sub-plot but that's minor, really.

I loved the connection between Mal and Jason - side note, I'm all for human names for demons, and Malcolm is perfect 😂. I liked Malcolm and his distaste for most human customs, but loved how he was instantly protective of Jason and I'm all for fated mates, and this was done well. Once Mal and Jason do get together, though, it is H O T 🔥. I feel for the paintwork on that Aston, I really do.

This was such a fun read, I really enjoyed it and am going to lobby hard until we get Zeke's story, I cannot wait for that one.

I received an ARC and this is my honest review.

Interesting, low angst story about moving on and finding your HEA

I thought this was an interesting one in that on the face of it, you’d assume it was going to be full of angst. Instead, you get a book that’s actually pretty low angst given the subject matter and takes you on a more hopeful journey. Jason was an interesting character. He’s not necessarily likeable initially - his grief consumes him and he can be rude and dismissive. That being said, it kind of made sense. Grief can twist a person and can change the way they interact with family, friends and strangers. I felt like Jason wasn’t the warmest person naturally and his grief twisted that into some genuine moments or being unpleasant. Not that that excuses his attitude, but it explains it a bit and I did feel he got better as his grief lessened and he learned to move forward. I loved Mal - he was so respectful of Jason’s need to move slowly and whilst he could be protective (in a very sexy demon way) it never felt overwhelming (which can work, but for this story the less aggressive protectiveness worked really well). I’m glad to have found a new author to read!

Amazing! Must read! 📚
Once again, Alex has written another phenomenal story. She's taken a part in the Posessive Love Series and has taken it by storm. You have Jason, who's been grieving for over a year. Then you have Mal, who's a demon and detests humans. How can one bring these two together? Well, Alex does it in a very creative way. She has taken into consideration what each has gone through and are dealing with and created a timeline that fits perfectly for the story. I Iove that she slowly brought Jason and Mal together. Once they met, they both could feel the magnetic pull to one another. And when they finally do get together....sparks fly 😈 Once I started reading, I couldn't put the book down. This is a story that will keep your interest from page one all the way to the end. You'll love the side characters that are friends with Jason. They're lovable and an important part of the story. You will get a good laugh at times as well. I highly recommend this book. If I could give it more than five stars, I would. 🌟 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This is a great premise. A funeral home is the perfect front for Mal’s demon family business- reaping souls. I really loved Mal and his family, brother Zeke and his hellhound are a highlight for sure. I enjoyed Mal’s grumpiness over dealing with humans. He has a deeply held hatred of humans, that is until he finds his fated mate, the very human Jason. Jason is pretty closed off at first, not really interested in exploring the spark between him and Mal. He is understandably still grieving his late husband Kieran, it’s only been eighteen months since his death. The two meet when Zeke offers to bring his husband back to life, the offer so tempting for grieving Jason. The author had a clever and unique take on reincarnation and this was such an interesting way to bring Mal and Jason together. It also has good side characters, I appreciated how supportive Jason’s friends Kristine and Sam were about his relationship with Mal. I really enjoyed the surprisingly sweet romance.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
